Clarice Starling | Hannibal (novel)

A: The Glownies
It helps that she spots the first one at twilight, just as she's heading back to shelter from an exploratory jog. Somehow, it makes the whole thing even more extraordinary, a little ethereal.

At first, Starling isn't sure what she's seeing, but she stays still and watches as the Glownie snuffles around in the dirt and finds the fresh patch of mint she'd crushed underheel just a moment before. When she realizes what she's looking at, it feels almost like a sign from somewhere: a sheep crossed with a horse. Hannibal would write dissertations in mockery about it, something about her childhood memories come back to court her in the face of another upheaval. But if it's a sign, she thinks, it's a good one, and she crouches slowly, pulling up a few more sprigs of mint and twisting them beneath her fingers to release the oils. Pursing her lips, she nickers softly.

"Hey. ... Want some more? C'mere..."

B: Cultural Forensics
Starling packs a small bag with enough water and rations to last the day before heading out to explore. She's interested most in the people who lived here before it fell apart, in what could have happened. She starts with the ruins near the outskirts of the city and works her way back toward the Hotel over the course of the day. Feel free to encounter her in jeans, a plain black t-shirt, and boots a smidgen too large from the Alien Target as she's sifting through rubble with a curious squint on her face.

C: Spaceship!!

Once she finds the hangars, she just.

Stares.

Sure, there's hearing about it in your head from a Data Point ... and then there's seeing it. Spaceships. Actual got-dam spaceships.

"Shit house mouse..."

Okay, I think I've figured this out enough to use it. My apologies if I'm not supposed to be sending this to all of you. My name is Clarice Starling, and I'm from the planet Earth, in the year 2001. A lot of this is a little over my head. I'd appreciate it if any of you would feel generous enough to answer some questions.
