Each station will require two crystals apiece. They will only operate while the crystal rods are plugged into the appropriate ports. No more than two stations will turn on at a single time via crystal rods, even if more are connected.
There are a total of six stations that seem like they could be powered on, in different parts of the security building. One of them, while able to be powered on, will have no 'display output' like a monitor or any lighted ports to interpret. Another will have a monitor but nothing connected to it. The monitor is melded into the desk, and cannot be moved.
Extended use of any single station (powered on for more than two continuous hours) will have a sudden spike of power drain on the crystals, and by four hours, will drain the crystal rods completely. Engineers will be able to recharge them, but find the conditions in Not-Temba (at last anywhere they have been yet) not tenable to the recharge process. An Engineer who has made crystal rods before will be very aware that crystal rods DO NOT run out that fast. They can usually power items for months at a time, if not longer (if the item is a low draw source). Clearly something is up.
