It's not that she has a boner for authority or even the military, not exactly. She just a healthy respect for people like her trying to stop the bad guys, and a good dose of loathing for said bad guys. They don't have magical super heroes to fly in and save the day, just loosely normal people, sometimes genetically enhanced or altered, dying left and right to try saving people.
