TEST DRIVE
Application FAQ | Taken Characters | Reserves | Application

Welcome to the first Test Drive for The Revival Project!

For those who do not know, this game is a spin-off from The Drift Fleet game, which is shortly closing. For more information about what this game is about, please check out the FAQ here or the premise here.

The TDM for the first round of applications is NOT required but is highly recommended. Really this is to see the interest level in the game as well as to have everyone interact on the new planet and with the new experiences offered here. There will be a post in the TDM where questions can be asked regarding the prompts/settings. We're keeping this loose though so go ahead and have fun with it. Any questions about the game please direct to the comment section of the FAQ.

If you are a Drift Fleet alumni, please label your character as 'DFAU' on your top level so we know. Also, keep in mind you have complete flexibility on how your character comes here. They could be taken before endgame, after endgame, two years after, one year before, etc. It's up to you! The only option not allowed is to completely restart your character (because then it's not DFAU, is it?)

So go! Explore Agra 10! And, as always, HAVE FUN!

*ATTENTION! RESERVES ARE NOW OPEN!*
*ATTENTION! APPLICATIONS ARE NOW OPEN!*
*GAME OPENS AUGUST 19th!*

WHALE COMB PARTY

In the square near your arrival point, one building seems to be in fairly good repair. It’s large and stark white on every wall. Unlike the other buildings, all the lights are on and the windows looking out are intact. That alone would make it remarkable but it’s hardly the most noticeable thing once you step inside the open doorway.

Hanging against one wall is a piece of fabric that has ‘WHALE COMB!’ painted on it in drippy, fluorescent pink letters. A smiley is painted underneath it right on the wall with three eyes and long fangs. The fangs drip down all the way to the floor and the eyes are just a blob of paint, but whoever left it seems to have been trying, here. ‘US THANK THEY!’ is written beside it, barely legible. On every other wall is ‘EAT’ in various sizes and colors. They thankfully don’t drip as much as the smiley since, beneath them, are tables upon tables of food.

There are meats, fruits, root vegetables, and even what might be a sweet dessert of some sort as well. Bowls are full of them, apparently a welcome dinner for the Agrii’s new heroes. At the very least it will give everyone a quick crash course on what is edible around here. But some of it might have … adverse effects:

- People chomping down on the striped meat all seem to get very drowsy a few minutes later.
- The red fruit that looks like a giant cherry is the equivalent of a few shots - the more consumed, the more drunken this party is getting.
- There is a bowl of weeds that have small, daisy-like flowers all along the stalks. This tastes like chicken and gives the eater a sudden burst of energy that will have them running around the room like they’re being chased.
-There are a collection of drinks, some made from the red fruit, some that are clearly water, some that taste like a less-sweet lemonade with no effects, and then there's a blue one that tastes like an especially dark beer. People drinking this will find themselves incapable of lying for a half hour.

Of course, no way to know any of this before you chow down. So dig in and enjoy the show!

LOST AND ALONE

They said don’t go into the forest. If the noises there weren’t deterrent enough then the thick trees and lack of paths should have been. Yes, you’ll need food. Yes, both meat and many fruits are in the forest. But maybe you should have gotten some more information before heading in.

Congratulations: you went into the forest and are now lost. You can’t hear the murmurings from town, nor can you see any of the lights that might be flickering on and off in the city. How are you going to get back into town? How do you make sure that the creatures here don’t attack you? You probably don’t have any weapons, so you’d better figure something out quick.

Or, maybe you’ll get lucky and run into another foolish person wandering around out here. Try not to attack them - unless they attack first.

MILES TO GO

The first thing every survivor needs to find is shelter. Not long after your arrival at the fountain, it’s getting darker now and, even if the night is short (you’re about to find out it’s not!), you don’t want to spend your first one out on an unfamiliar street. Distantly you can hear a sound like a wolf howling through an elephant’s trunk. It’s loud and alien. Maybe you want to find somewhere to sleep a little more quickly.

Right away there are two pretty solid options that will do nicely for the night: an abandoned hotel-like structure and some empty stores.

The hotel structure seems to be the most popular option for others. Its large, overgrown lobby leads you to the staircase and over a dozen floors of rooms in varying conditions. Despite it looking as though no one has set foot in here for decades, the stairs and floors all are secure. The rooms that have doors on them open up to dusty rooms that all have a bathroom (of sorts) attached and long, narrow bed frames. Figuring out a mattress will be a challenge but at least this is a safe place to sleep. As long as no animals laid claim to this room before you got in...

But let’s say the room in the hotel doesn’t work for you. Maybe the room is too small for you. Maybe you don’t like the stairs. Maybe you want someplace private to separate yourself from the rest of these strangers and to think quietly about what to do next. Either way, the other option is any number of abandoned stores lining the block where you arrived. The glass doors and windows of many are broken but there are just as many intact as well. The rooms are all large and empty, as whatever wares inside were either taken or dissolved over the years. There may be a counter or two that will get you off the ground, though. With all this space, you’re bound to find something to sleep on.

Unless someone else got there, first...

Isabella certainly looked like a 19th century European lady. That was even mostly what she was.

But mostly it hadn't yet occurred to her that the natives wouldn't be human (given the opposite had only happened once) or that she had left her homeworld (which she had never done).

"New Jersey?" That was not a location Isabella knew of, though she could maybe intuit it was a colony founded by some nation that had the original Jersey. Which sounded Scirling, but Isabella knew the geography of her own country.

"Yeah. I don't know what's new about it, but hey, I didn't name it. Just lived there before I moved to New York."

There is definitely a bit of a theme going on here. "Where are you from? I'd say England. You sound like it. Sorta Mary Poppins?"

"Scirland." Isabella was shaking her head, confused. "I haven't heard of any of those places you've named."

Which meant... well, it was hard to develop a hypothesis when one had nothing to start from. Beyond 'I have fallen into Fairyland', and Isabella had seen some weird and semi-mythical things in her lifetime, but magic and fairies were steps too far.

"Sorry." He mutters.

"I'm concerned with the consequences of eating something without thought." He admits, toying with the flower in his hand. "Was the fruit safe?"

Perhaps he should have more faith in this world, but after what he's encountered... faith was hard to come by.

"I have not. It reminds me of a daisy. Usually, it reflects hope but I'm not sure it holds the same meaning -- especially if it's edible."

"Well, I've never heard of Scirland. So we're on fair ground here."

Strange to believe that she's from somewhere weird, because he definitely hasn't been some place like that and he's mostly traveled his own world. Out of boredom, yes, but traveled it.

"No need to apologize." He offers a small smile. "Perhaps we can find someone who may know this place a little better. It would be nice to know if there is anything we can eat that isn't going to kill us."

He brushes his hair back behind his ear for a moment, before he scoots over on the bench, tucking the flower back into the front pocket.

"Would you like to sit?"

Well, that at least explains a little. "What kind of field work?" Bucky asks, even as he steps closer and examines her work.

Then he decides, "I think if you get most of the way through the stalks, I can just get the rest." He motions for her to move back from the clump she was working on, wit the intent of simply pulling them apart now that she's weakened the stems enough with the glass.
stillgotmyleftarm: (half smile)

Well, what can you do

[personal profile] stillgotmyleftarm 2019-07-29 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
Bucky would normally tense, but - it's Steve, and he'd pretty much know that blindfolded and drugged off his ass. Nether of which apply right now, even if he's partway into his first cherry fruit.

It does make him wonder, though, because Steve has had a lot more - and then Steve goes and explains that, and Bucky eyes the thing in his hand.

He grins a little, tilting his head to bump temples with Steve, gently. "So does that mean I should quit now and be the designated driver?"

Around Town

[personal profile] the_tailor 2019-07-29 02:43 am (UTC)(link)
[Lance knew that they were essentially living on borrowed time. As badly as he wanted to cling to the new life he and Keith had made together, he knew Keith too well. He knew this couldn't last forever. And it frightened him, terrified him to the core, knowing that what'd become the most important thing to him was coming to an end. Though he tried to hide just how badly it affected him, he was obvious enough in the way he'd cling to Keith more than ever. With Keith not having feelings for him (yet, he tried to tell himself) back home, would they ever get to this point again?

Yeah. Pretty terrifying to as romantic and relationship oriented guy like Lance. But he did miss everyone back home sorely--his team, his family, his home. There was no real winning either way.

Before that borrowed time could come to an end, though, a third option appeared. Less of an option, really, and more of a new route they were forced onto.

Again, he had been transported to a strange new place. Lance knew he wasn't back in his own world, since he had all his memories of the Fleet. Still the same universe, then? Maybe? But where in it? The bigger issue was that he was alone, which was not exactly fun when one is lost.

It's a few hours of wandering before he finally spots a familiar face. A blessedly familiar face. Lance nearly trips over himself as he launches into a run, and if he accidentally pushes anyone else to the side in his single mindedness, whoops.]

KEITH!!!

[He won't even give his boyfriend a chance to react before he leaps right onto him, hugging him as tightly as humanly possible.]

[She is definitely not human - but at least Bucky's seen enough aliens by this point that he doesn't stare.

But it doesn't mean he isn't curious.

He catches her at one of the tables, offering a sympathetic and friendly smile.]
As far as I can tell, most of this stuff is edible. Nobody's dropped dead yet.

[Yup. Real reassuring.]

[Bucky considers, but,] Three years ain't nothing.

[It's not a lifetime, but he's kind of got an edge most people don't.]

Is running all you do?

"Nowhere to drive to." Steve is smiling himself and turning a little to peek at Bucky's profile. It's been so long that he honestly almost felt like he'd forgotten what it looked like. But he hadn't. Steve knew every bump and crease on this man's face. He pecks against Bucky's cheek and settles his chin against his shoulder, content.

"'sides, we both know this will only last a couple of minutes for us." It's not the same alcohol they'd had in the Fleet after all. Or at least Steve hoped it wasn't. Those hadn't been his best days. Well.

Until...

"Remember that first day? Me throwing up in the art studio?"

Oh. A code name. That made sense. Wiccan. "That's good. Jewish is good." Steve realizes after he says that how absurd and stupid it is. That's a good sign, at least. Means he has to be sobering up. Small miracle.

"Twenty was too many," he agrees. "At least we know that it has an effect." He can feel it waning though. Not a super-toxin, then. Nothing worse than alcohol, likely.

God. What he wouldn't give for Bruce or Tony to be here.

"So. Code name. Does Wiccan mean that you're...using magic?"

"Maybe the berry dulled it..." Steve's not sure but it's worth giving Tommy some hope. Optimism is Steve Rogers' greatest export after all. "How about we forget about the berries and just get straight back to camp? Give it some time to wear off."

He knows vaguely the way he came and points off in one direction.

"You're way more efficient than I would ever be at scouting around. I'll wait right here and you find us a path? We'll take it together and make sure neither of us get into any trouble.

A good team of two."
doubled_speed: (Default)

[personal profile] doubled_speed 2019-07-29 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
Don't worry, Tommy knows that Steve is, like, the worst optimist. Captain America always believes the best of people. Which is stupid. People suck. But don't worry, Tommy didn't intend to burst that silly little bubble.

Still, he is left to consider for a while, before grabbing a few extra berries for the road.

"Probably not safe to go sonic speeds, so this could take a bit. Have yourself a seat, old-guy. I'll be back as soon as I can."
stillgotmyleftarm: (neutral good)

[personal profile] stillgotmyleftarm 2019-07-29 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, okay, I wasn't being literal, you punk," Bucky says - far too fondly to really be exasperated. Steve is (mostly) a cute drunk - except for, you know, that time he threw up in the art studio.

Because, "Yeah, I remember." Bucky laughs softly, poking his head with one finger. "My memory's almost as good as yours. And even if it wasn't, I don't think I could forget that. You ain't trying to warn me you're about to do it again, are you? I'll hold your hair, honey, but that's about all I can do."
stillgotmyleftarm: (skeptical)

[personal profile] stillgotmyleftarm 2019-07-29 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
Not always, huh. [Bucky echoes, idly grabbing another of the cherry-colored fruits from the table.]

So what else? Or is that classified?
brooklyn_boy: (smirk)

[personal profile] brooklyn_boy 2019-07-29 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
Honey. Steve loosens his grip just enough to loop around and hold Bucky from the front. He's all easy grins and fondness as he leans his head back a little and tries to put on an irritated voice. It fails epically.

"You could get me water like a good boyfriend. 'sides, what hair is there to even hold?"

He trails one hand up Bucky's side and strokes through his hair. Steve's head tilts a little, still warm even if part of it is fruit-induced. His head slowly flops back onto the track it was on, before. It's not an easy transition.

"I called you 'My Bucky', then. Said it to Sam, before, too. Did you know you're my Bucky?"
stillgotmyleftarm: (Default)

[personal profile] stillgotmyleftarm 2019-07-29 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, yeah - it had been a joke, although just to get the last word (so to speak), Bucky - who's starting to feel pretty good, too, okay - just one of those things does pack a punch, wow - slides his fingers up the back of Steve's head and tugs, just lightly. That hair, okay?

"Your Bucky, huh?" he says - and while he meant to make a joke, say that he absolutely had no idea, what comes out is, "I'm not. I mean. Not really.

"Not from your world, anyway."

And - well, shit. What the hell, he had not meant to say that.

[While wilderness survival isn't her forte, she's familiar with it—and there are worse people you could have worrying about your logistics and support.]

That's the idea. Might be a steep learning curve, but we'll have to start collecting what we can unless the Agrii turn out to be remarkably generous.

[And even if they are, Natasha doesn't like relying on it.]

[personal profile] doubled_speed 2019-07-29 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
What? Kidnapping us isn't generous? I mean, technically they took me out of Jersey, and most people would consider that a movement up in the world.

[No one can sass Jersey quite like a Jersey native who moved to New York. It's like, a rite of passage.]

I'll knock the leaves all I want, Rogers. Who knows what's living in them.

[Or what reactions humans might have to them. The last thing they need is mites or a rash.]

We can work on bedding later on. For now, my priorities are secure and clean in that order.

[Or she could just be grateful that she has food and eat the things they know aren't poisonous. Like a responsible person. She's had far worse than this.]

We don't know that we'll need to do that. Or that we don't have a better way to check food.

I don't know if anyone else here can heal, but I can't help you if you get poisoned.
