TEST DRIVE
Application FAQ | Taken Characters | Reserves | Application

Welcome to the first Test Drive for The Revival Project!

For those who do not know, this game is a spin-off from The Drift Fleet game, which is shortly closing. For more information about what this game is about, please check out the FAQ here or the premise here.

The TDM for the first round of applications is NOT required but is highly recommended. Really this is to see the interest level in the game as well as to have everyone interact on the new planet and with the new experiences offered here. There will be a post in the TDM where questions can be asked regarding the prompts/settings. We're keeping this loose though so go ahead and have fun with it. Any questions about the game please direct to the comment section of the FAQ.

If you are a Drift Fleet alumni, please label your character as 'DFAU' on your top level so we know. Also, keep in mind you have complete flexibility on how your character comes here. They could be taken before endgame, after endgame, two years after, one year before, etc. It's up to you! The only option not allowed is to completely restart your character (because then it's not DFAU, is it?)

So go! Explore Agra 10! And, as always, HAVE FUN!

*ATTENTION! RESERVES ARE NOW OPEN!*
*ATTENTION! APPLICATIONS ARE NOW OPEN!*
*GAME OPENS AUGUST 19th!*

WHALE COMB PARTY

In the square near your arrival point, one building seems to be in fairly good repair. It’s large and stark white on every wall. Unlike the other buildings, all the lights are on and the windows looking out are intact. That alone would make it remarkable but it’s hardly the most noticeable thing once you step inside the open doorway.

Hanging against one wall is a piece of fabric that has ‘WHALE COMB!’ painted on it in drippy, fluorescent pink letters. A smiley is painted underneath it right on the wall with three eyes and long fangs. The fangs drip down all the way to the floor and the eyes are just a blob of paint, but whoever left it seems to have been trying, here. ‘US THANK THEY!’ is written beside it, barely legible. On every other wall is ‘EAT’ in various sizes and colors. They thankfully don’t drip as much as the smiley since, beneath them, are tables upon tables of food.

There are meats, fruits, root vegetables, and even what might be a sweet dessert of some sort as well. Bowls are full of them, apparently a welcome dinner for the Agrii’s new heroes. At the very least it will give everyone a quick crash course on what is edible around here. But some of it might have … adverse effects:

- People chomping down on the striped meat all seem to get very drowsy a few minutes later.
- The red fruit that looks like a giant cherry is the equivalent of a few shots - the more consumed, the more drunken this party is getting.
- There is a bowl of weeds that have small, daisy-like flowers all along the stalks. This tastes like chicken and gives the eater a sudden burst of energy that will have them running around the room like they’re being chased.
-There are a collection of drinks, some made from the red fruit, some that are clearly water, some that taste like a less-sweet lemonade with no effects, and then there's a blue one that tastes like an especially dark beer. People drinking this will find themselves incapable of lying for a half hour.

Of course, no way to know any of this before you chow down. So dig in and enjoy the show!

LOST AND ALONE

They said don’t go into the forest. If the noises there weren’t deterrent enough then the thick trees and lack of paths should have been. Yes, you’ll need food. Yes, both meat and many fruits are in the forest. But maybe you should have gotten some more information before heading in.

Congratulations: you went into the forest and are now lost. You can’t hear the murmurings from town, nor can you see any of the lights that might be flickering on and off in the city. How are you going to get back into town? How do you make sure that the creatures here don’t attack you? You probably don’t have any weapons, so you’d better figure something out quick.

Or, maybe you’ll get lucky and run into another foolish person wandering around out here. Try not to attack them - unless they attack first.

MILES TO GO

The first thing every survivor needs to find is shelter. Not long after your arrival at the fountain, it’s getting darker now and, even if the night is short (you’re about to find out it’s not!), you don’t want to spend your first one out on an unfamiliar street. Distantly you can hear a sound like a wolf howling through an elephant’s trunk. It’s loud and alien. Maybe you want to find somewhere to sleep a little more quickly.

Right away there are two pretty solid options that will do nicely for the night: an abandoned hotel-like structure and some empty stores.

The hotel structure seems to be the most popular option for others. Its large, overgrown lobby leads you to the staircase and over a dozen floors of rooms in varying conditions. Despite it looking as though no one has set foot in here for decades, the stairs and floors all are secure. The rooms that have doors on them open up to dusty rooms that all have a bathroom (of sorts) attached and long, narrow bed frames. Figuring out a mattress will be a challenge but at least this is a safe place to sleep. As long as no animals laid claim to this room before you got in...

But let’s say the room in the hotel doesn’t work for you. Maybe the room is too small for you. Maybe you don’t like the stairs. Maybe you want someplace private to separate yourself from the rest of these strangers and to think quietly about what to do next. Either way, the other option is any number of abandoned stores lining the block where you arrived. The glass doors and windows of many are broken but there are just as many intact as well. The rooms are all large and empty, as whatever wares inside were either taken or dissolved over the years. There may be a counter or two that will get you off the ground, though. With all this space, you’re bound to find something to sleep on.

Unless someone else got there, first...

Yeah, well. Steve can handle it. He could probably throw Tommy and a nearby rock over his shoulder and still be able to manage a pretty good jog.

"Yeah. Yeah, you're definitely right with that." He looks ahead and can almost see the grey of the buildings out in the distance. Getting closer. Good.

"How old are you, if you don't mind me asking?" He's seemed to have lived through a lot of rough things.

Yeah, well. [Okay. There was a lot of boiling. He knows some other recipes though. Well. Bucky probably did, anyway.]

Beggars can't be choosers, right now. We have a few people with metabolisms like me, here. Calories is the important thing. Lots and lots of calories.

[He can't help but grin a little, remembering the party.]

And definitely keeping those red fruits at a safe distance.

"That complicated," Tommy admits. "I was sorta kidnapped for a while, outside of time and space maybe. But I think my birthday went by in that time? Eighteen or so?"

But Tommy has to again give that wiggly hand thing, because it's hard to really keep it up.

"I've been a hero since I was sixteen though."

"So, not a hunter then. But it takes all kinds, or so they say. Doctors are useful in general, and I'm sure we'll need your skills before too long." Not to be fatalistic but people get sick and accidents happen.

"For what it's worth, I'm glad you're here." Not for himself, because he dislikes the poking and prodding that doctors do, but for others who might wind up needing the assistance. And even then, he's needed patching up too.

"Sounds like a smart idea. Otherwise we're more or less flying blind here."

"Huh, you know about the Avengers. It's not a shock, but I'm still figuring out how things like alternate timelines work." He doesn't have a problem admitting that he's new to this particular area. It's never come up, just like aliens and wormholes had never come up.

Until they did.

He noted Tommy's use of the word mutant, and he zeroes in on that. "So, you're one of the enhanced?"

He can actually take that in stride since meeting Wanda and Pietro.

"Well, the Avengers are pretty seriously big in my universe. And more than that, I am one. Sorta. So yeah," Tommy shrugs. He knows about them. But then he frowns at the 'enhanced.'

That's not a word he's heard used before.

"What in the world is an enhanced? Wait, like Wanda? Uh, no? I'm a mutant. I was born this way."

"The Chitauri. Loki." That name is daid with some bitterness. "Thanos." He doesn't actually expect to see any of them, but they wre what he considers threats. If they're dealing with threats of that magnitude, he wants to know about it.

But it sounds like that's not the case and he lets out a short sigh of relief.

"Yeah, and I'm not a fan of that. Kidnapping in general is a no go with me, and if you factor in being dumped here without anyone giving a crap, that's just even worse."

He crosses his arms and his frown deepens as he mulls over these ramifications. "That aside, how have you been?"

Natasha is allowed to think of Wanda as a kid. It's not even their respective ages so much as their experience—Wanda's life wasn't easy by any means, but Natasha has been around politics and violence since she was a child. She'd been showing her the ropes, teaching her to rely on things other than her admittedly phenomenal power. Natasha had tried to keep Wanda safe, and to teach her how to keep herself safe.

Even if that hadn't come to much in the end.

"So don't get into the details." As though that's obvious. "Not like any of us can make you quit the hero game and go to a good school from here. But it's your choice in the end. Worth considering how likely she is to find out one way or another."

Steve is used to fighting with the Avengers so he doesn't actually think that much of the talking. Tony is the real chatterbox half the time, after all. But with Soldat pointing it out he has to admit that, yeah. Okay. He talks in battle more than a trained assassin is probably used to. Steve laughs a little, amused at the realization more than he's bothered by it.

"Yeah. But it could be worse."

He rotates as Soldat shifts, keeping to his right. The creatures are busy charging at him so Steve takes the moment to play some golf and smack away the ones that are too distracted to see him coming. They go flying, either killed by the impact or smart enough to retreat. Once the numbers get thin, the remaining ones seem to be thinking about scattering. Steve will not be sorry to see them go.

"Sixteen." Yeah. That's young. And the fact that he was kidnapped during that time is troubling on a lot of other levels as well. Steve frowns and looks at Tommy in a new light. Kids this young didn't need to be going through the things that heroes did. Steve barely likes the fact that Peter has been dragged into it.

"That's a long time. Was...it your choice to join up?"

School? Tommy actually laughs a little at the idea that he would go to school. That's definitely not going to happen, not even back home. GED or nothing. No school would let him in their walls given his record of, well, blowing one up.

"I mean, it's not like she can read minds or anything."

You know, I grew up in a food shortage too. I'm not judging.

[It's not like she's an especially gifted cook, either. She can follow instructions, but the outcome doesn't tend to be inspired.

But she will tease. Especially an old man getting ideas.]

And I don't hate a potato.

[She shakes her head a little then, sighing herself.]

We might want to keep a few of those fruits on hand though. Especially if they even work on super soldiers.

Steve has no idea, at all, how the things heroes went through were a lot easier to deal with than Tommy's old life. So really, he's traded up in the world. And is doing something that matters.

"The Young Avengers came to recruit me when one of their members was kidnapped by the Super Skrull. I got a choice. That, or go villain. And there were serious arguments for the latter, family history aside."

And he got the better end of the bargain. A brother, a home, friends. Better than blowing stuff up.

"I haven't seen Loki, but if he does show up we probably don't have to consider him an active threat." There's bitterness in her own tone too, but if the Loki who showed up here was the one from the Fleet, they'd have Cap acting as advocate for him. Natasha agreed he wasn't likely to stir something up, but she can't entirely trust it. "Probably."

A deep breath, because there's a lot to explain. Natasha isn't sure where to start. She doesn't want to give a report. Not with Clint. She wants to tell him it really is okay.

"There's a lot to tell. I don't know how much you've heard already, but... it's been a while for me. Most of it's good."

"You give me too much credit. I'm afraid without my laboratory, it'll be rather difficult to determine what can and cannot be used as medicine around here. Further, without my equipment, I'm limited to anything beyond simple diagnosis," he sighs, wry smile on his face. It's something he's been thinking about since he woke up in this strange place and realized his tricorder wasn't functional.

He can't help but curse his younger self for being so obsessed with "frontier medicine". Deep Space Nine was nothing compared to this. The barebones sickbay on the Defiant looked like a dream compared to this.

"And I must say, as useful as my training can be, I sincerely hope I need to use it as little as possible. Until then, I'll be scrounging around the city to see what type of electronics may be laying around." Perhaps he'd be able to cobble something together. Even while hiding his abilities on Deep Space Nine, he was never as brilliant with machinery as O'Brien was. Is.

He laughs dryly. "With good reason, I'm sure. Not to brag, but the Avengers I know pretty much kick ass." They do get their asses handed to them sometimes, and in all honesty, the fiasco with Thanos is something they won't be recovering from quickly.

"Okay, yes, we get beat sometimes, but no one ever said we were gonna win everything." He shrugs and stops rambling. "Yeah, like Wanda." He's just using the terminology he heard, unaware that there's a distinction. Until now, that is.

"Sorry, man, I'm not the authority on this stuff. I'm just a normal guy." Mostly.

“You’re one of the two best marksmen in the world. Hardly a ‘normal guy.’ Hell, Kate says you can do the Robin Hood short. Pretty not normal,” Tommy shrugs.

Trust him, Hawkeye, he respects your skills. Even if he can outrun them.

“Mutants, Homo superior. Our abilities are caused by genetics. We have the ‘x-gene’. So this is all natural. No Mind Stone fiddling involved.”

Interesting he should cite that specifically.

"Natasha, you're kidding." Clint hasn't been gradually relaxing or anything, but at those words, he very visibly tenses. "Not an active threat?" Obviously he doesn't know what Natasha knows, but to him, Loki will never be someone he can trust. There are some things that can't be forgiven and what Loki did is one of them.

He lets out a long breath that he didn't know he was holding in, and he tries to will himself to settle back down again.

"You could start at the beginning." Unless of course she really doesn't want to give him what information she knows. He doesn't want to be left in the dark, but he'd rather hear about things from her, who he knows he can trust without question. "I guess that whatever it is can wait," he says, reluctantly acquiescing. He's only just arrived, after all.

"Is that a joke?" It's worth clarifying. Natasha may have forgiven Wanda for her one trip through her memories, but she hasn't forgotten it. That episode is going to stay with her.

It may be a talent she doesn't trot out often, presumably out of respect for her friends and her own moral compass, but Natasha is entirely confident that Wanda can read minds. "Because if it's not, I have some bad news."

[personal profile] outstandingbalance 2019-08-06 05:28 am (UTC)(link)
"I'll start at the beginning," she offers, nodding slightly. She owes him that much. She owes him more than that, for everything he's done for her over the years. For trusting her when he really shouldn't have. For leaving him alone on Vormir.

"How about we sit down. You can keep an eye on the door, and I'll get a little rest while we catch up." It's the best Natasha can do. "I think we're safe enough here for that, for the moment."

"She can read minds?" Tommy just about yelps. That's... That's bad. He doesn't like it. At all. She doesn't do that back home.

"Okay, that's new."
beenalongday: (pic#13353915)

[personal profile] beenalongday 2019-08-06 06:03 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, okay. Sounds good." He can't help but sound relieved that she agreed; yes, he wants to know what she knows, but also, he just wants to listen to her. In the world he's from, no one will ever hear from her again, and whether it causes him hurt later, he doesn't care. He'll take what he can get.

And he's tired too, so sitting down sounds like a great idea right about now. "Sounds like a plan. You take a load off and I'll keep an eye on things for awhile." He owes her just as much, perhaps more than he'll ever be able to repay.

"Hm, well, that is a dilemma, and maybe I don't know anything about this place we're stuck in, but who's to say you can't scavenge something that might be useful to developing something like that?"

Of course, Clint's just theorizing here, because maybe there's nothing salvageable to scavenge. And even if there is, who's to say anything made from salvaged parts would work? "Either way, simple diagnosis is better than nothing, I think."

But he's not an expert, so maybe he shouldn't be offering his opinions. Still, it seems like they're on the same page as far as scrounging around goes. "Well, hey, if you need a hand with that, I'm available." He doesn't have much else to do right now anyway.
beenalongday: (pic#13353923 (AoU))

[personal profile] beenalongday 2019-08-06 07:22 am (UTC)(link)
Resisting the urge to preen a bit, because of course he knows he's good, Clint rolls his eyes and shrugs. "I just mean, when stacked up against Thor and hell, even Tony, I'm just some guy with a bow and arrow." And deadly aim. But his abilities aren't supernatural, so of course he'll never stack up with the greats among the Avengers.

Still, he appreciates the fact that Tommy seems to respect him and his abilities.

"Huh. I guess just because I've never heard of it doesn't mean it can't be possible. The x-gene. Interesting." He's mulling this over because it really is the first he's heard of it. "So, there's others like you, then."
