TEST DRIVE
Application FAQ | Taken Characters | Reserves | Application

Welcome to the first Test Drive for The Revival Project!

For those who do not know, this game is a spin-off from The Drift Fleet game, which is shortly closing. For more information about what this game is about, please check out the FAQ here or the premise here.

The TDM for the first round of applications is NOT required but is highly recommended. Really this is to see the interest level in the game as well as to have everyone interact on the new planet and with the new experiences offered here. There will be a post in the TDM where questions can be asked regarding the prompts/settings. We're keeping this loose though so go ahead and have fun with it. Any questions about the game please direct to the comment section of the FAQ.

If you are a Drift Fleet alumni, please label your character as 'DFAU' on your top level so we know. Also, keep in mind you have complete flexibility on how your character comes here. They could be taken before endgame, after endgame, two years after, one year before, etc. It's up to you! The only option not allowed is to completely restart your character (because then it's not DFAU, is it?)

So go! Explore Agra 10! And, as always, HAVE FUN!

WHALE COMB PARTY

In the square near your arrival point, one building seems to be in fairly good repair. It’s large and stark white on every wall. Unlike the other buildings, all the lights are on and the windows looking out are intact. That alone would make it remarkable but it’s hardly the most noticeable thing once you step inside the open doorway.

Hanging against one wall is a piece of fabric that has ‘WHALE COMB!’ painted on it in drippy, fluorescent pink letters. A smiley is painted underneath it right on the wall with three eyes and long fangs. The fangs drip down all the way to the floor and the eyes are just a blob of paint, but whoever left it seems to have been trying, here. ‘US THANK THEY!’ is written beside it, barely legible. On every other wall is ‘EAT’ in various sizes and colors. They thankfully don’t drip as much as the smiley since, beneath them, are tables upon tables of food.

There are meats, fruits, root vegetables, and even what might be a sweet dessert of some sort as well. Bowls are full of them, apparently a welcome dinner for the Agrii’s new heroes. At the very least it will give everyone a quick crash course on what is edible around here. But some of it might have … adverse effects:

- People chomping down on the striped meat all seem to get very drowsy a few minutes later.
- The red fruit that looks like a giant cherry is the equivalent of a few shots - the more consumed, the more drunken this party is getting.
- There is a bowl of weeds that have small, daisy-like flowers all along the stalks. This tastes like chicken and gives the eater a sudden burst of energy that will have them running around the room like they’re being chased.
-There are a collection of drinks, some made from the red fruit, some that are clearly water, some that taste like a less-sweet lemonade with no effects, and then there's a blue one that tastes like an especially dark beer. People drinking this will find themselves incapable of lying for a half hour.

Of course, no way to know any of this before you chow down. So dig in and enjoy the show!

LOST AND ALONE

They said don’t go into the forest. If the noises there weren’t deterrent enough then the thick trees and lack of paths should have been. Yes, you’ll need food. Yes, both meat and many fruits are in the forest. But maybe you should have gotten some more information before heading in.

Congratulations: you went into the forest and are now lost. You can’t hear the murmurings from town, nor can you see any of the lights that might be flickering on and off in the city. How are you going to get back into town? How do you make sure that the creatures here don’t attack you? You probably don’t have any weapons, so you’d better figure something out quick.

Or, maybe you’ll get lucky and run into another foolish person wandering around out here. Try not to attack them - unless they attack first.

MILES TO GO

The first thing every survivor needs to find is shelter. Not long after your arrival at the fountain, it’s getting darker now and, even if the night is short (you’re about to find out it’s not!), you don’t want to spend your first one out on an unfamiliar street. Distantly you can hear a sound like a wolf howling through an elephant’s trunk. It’s loud and alien. Maybe you want to find somewhere to sleep a little more quickly.

Right away there are two pretty solid options that will do nicely for the night: an abandoned hotel-like structure and some empty stores.

The hotel structure seems to be the most popular option for others. Its large, overgrown lobby leads you to the staircase and over a dozen floors of rooms in varying conditions. Despite it looking as though no one has set foot in here for decades, the stairs and floors all are secure. The rooms that have doors on them open up to dusty rooms that all have a bathroom (of sorts) attached and long, narrow bed frames. Figuring out a mattress will be a challenge but at least this is a safe place to sleep. As long as no animals laid claim to this room before you got in...

But let’s say the room in the hotel doesn’t work for you. Maybe the room is too small for you. Maybe you don’t like the stairs. Maybe you want someplace private to separate yourself from the rest of these strangers and to think quietly about what to do next. Either way, the other option is any number of abandoned stores lining the block where you arrived. The glass doors and windows of many are broken but there are just as many intact as well. The rooms are all large and empty, as whatever wares inside were either taken or dissolved over the years. There may be a counter or two that will get you off the ground, though. With all this space, you’re bound to find something to sleep on.

Unless someone else got there, first...

Arrival

[personal profile] alaspooryork 2019-08-21 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
The only reason it isn't immediately obvious is because your own voice sounds different to you, when you're a human with a stupid human body instead of an AI with much more accurate sound analysis, but either way Delta can't ignore those very familiar names.

And he shudders to himself briefly, hoping Omega and Sigma aren't here.

He tracks down the caller and waves as soon as he sees the other man. "Hello. I have not yet encountered anyone answering to those names. However, it seems we have all just arrived."

He peers at the other man curiously, but he doesn't look anything like the human bodies that had been assigned to his own siblings in Proles. It could just be coincidence. The Greek letters were used for many things, even some of the Proles callsigns (there had not, thankfully, been any confusion with the other Delta there).

Ah, a stranger. One offering something, not that it's much of something. Delta heaves a sigh of, well he's not entirely certain what it's of. A combination of relief and frustration.

"That's good to hear. I'm mostly hoping that I don't find any of them," he admits to the stranger, his hand worrying at the hem of his green scarf. Why that had to come with him, he didn't know, but it is comforting to have a touch of home.

"You haven't seen any kids around here, right? Either a pair of twins or a young boy, probably with a skateboard or the scratches to go with it? They might not have told you their names if they saw you. We sorta take the whole 'stranger danger' talks seriously. But knowing them, they'd head inside. It's always safer inside."
alaspooryork: (unarmored: stubble)

[personal profile] alaspooryork 2019-08-21 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
"I have not," he confirms. Twins. Young boy with a skateboard. And that helmet definitely looks like Mjolnir, although what good only having a helmet would do is beyond him.

Huh.

"However, I do not know that inside is significantly any different. The entire city appears to be in ruins, and I do not yet know how structurally stable the buildings are. May I assist you in looking?"
protective_logic: (There Are No Words)

[personal profile] protective_logic 2019-08-21 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
"Where we're from, it's important to be inside. The storms are pretty dangerous. Of course, they'll be scared if they enter a building and there's no sign of an airlock," he says, concern coloring his voice.

Could he normally be composed and logical and rational, yes? When the twins or Theta could be in danger? Well, Delta might get a bit stressed.

"If you'd be so kind. Splitting up may be more efficient, but I wouldn't want to be far away if you did find them. No offense meant, of course, I just don't want them to think I'm not there for them."
alaspooryork: (unarmored: maybe it's maybelline)

[personal profile] alaspooryork 2019-08-21 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Delta frowns, thinking of what he's learned from the data point here. "The storms can be dangerous here as well," he admits, "but it does not seem airlocks are necessary. There was an atmospheric anomaly in the last planet I was on, but it was managed by having a dome rather than individually sealed areas."

His eyes flick up to the sky and he seems to relax by a fraction. If he can see stars at night, all the better, but for now even this much is a sign of comfort to him--almost as much as it would freak Jack out not to have the protective wall around him. To Delta, it means Bifrons isn't watching him, and that's more than enough to make up for the gaping hole left by the people he hasn't found here yet.

"Understood. And likewise, should you find anyone answering to Foxtrot or Wrath--both adults, but both unused to being in open air--I would appreciate your assistance."

Loki, well. Loki can take care of himself, and will probably find Delta if he's here at all.

"Rampant chemical storms back home. The clouds are a beautiful, technicolor nightmare," Delta shrugs as he takes the airlock point in stride. "Exposure to even the smallest bit of the gases can be fatal. Everything is hermetically sealed. I've... I've never seen so much plant-material in my life."

Domes would have been wise, but the megacorps didn't care to spend money on it. Nor did the rich. They rarely left their skyscrapers and travel tubes high above the streets. The undercities were supposed to be safer, but... well, they had their own problems.

"Of course. Foxtrot and Wrath. Intriguing names," he muses before gesturing them toward the nearest building, the hotel. Where better to start the search? "The twins will likely be dressed in blue and yellow, they are five and will likely have their helmets still on, so I won't bother describing them. They will answer to Eta and Iota. The other is Theta, he's twelve and he'll be in purple. If he's got his helmet off, and he might, he'll have curly hair and you'll be able to see his hearing aids, which are also purple."
crowboy: (Caw!)

[personal profile] crowboy 2019-08-21 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
The sudden appearance of another person startles a squawk and a jump out of Corbin "Shit! Where'd you come from?"

He tries his best to calm down, but it had been a bit startling, but he at least takes one of the aforementioned root vegetables and takes a bite. "Mm yeah, an' a bit a' salt wouldn't hurt none." It kind of tasted like a cross between a parsnip and a potato.
alaspooryork: ([θ] little brother)

[personal profile] alaspooryork 2019-08-21 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
"It was a bioengineered viral contagion on Zeus." Delta touches the ugly ports on his neck, barely visible above his clothing but something that sets him apart physically nonetheless. They run all up and down his spine. "Some of us were brought from other places in hopes we would be immune to it, much like the Agrii claim to have brought us here to help them. Wrath and Foxtrot were natives, however."

And callsigns both, but spending a few months with Loki 'Paranoid Bastard' Friggason had made Delta wary of giving more identification than that.

But Eta and Iota being twins? Theta being a purple-liking kid with a skateboard? That's not coincidence, and Delta frowns. He chooses his words carefully.

"If your Gamma also went by Gary, we may have met previously."
crowboy: (You gonna eat that?)

[personal profile] crowboy 2019-08-21 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh... yeah? Where's yer cat?" Most cats aren't a fan of him, but he likes them just fine. Once they get over the confusion of smelling a person that pings as both crow and human to their sense at least.

He's more than happy to pop another one of the fruits in his mouth though, washing it down with some more water. He'd had better water, but beggars couldn't be choosers.

"New Jersey," Tommy answers, because it's always his go to, mostly because it's funny for people to wonder just what he means by that. Which is literally New Jersey.

"And yeah, fries would be better. The grease might not be bad here."
protective_logic: (Oh The Ire)

[personal profile] protective_logic 2019-08-21 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah, that statement brings Delta up short. Has him just about whirling on Delta, because there is no way the stranger should know that. Their middle names aren't really legal because they never had the money to put into the legal paperwork for it.

"How do you know that name?" he asks, his voice a touch sharper and distrustful. "You look too old to have gone to school with him."
alaspooryork: (unarmored: maybe it's maybelline)

[personal profile] alaspooryork 2019-08-21 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
It's clean water, at least, so it's better than it could be. Delta likewise starts carefully munching on one of the root vegetables he's picked up.

"Sleeping in one of the chairs," he answers and gestures over to the seating area. He's positioned so he can keep an eye on it, but nobody seems to be harassing the little tabby. Good thing, too, or they'd learn real fast that Delta has some hand-to-hand combat lessons entirely at odds with how uncomfortable he appears to be in his body. "I was surprised but pleased that he was taken along with me; in the last similar situation I experienced, we were brought in without so much as the clothing on our backs."
crowboy: (Beer I didn't pay for tastes better)

[personal profile] crowboy 2019-08-21 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
"Shit, ain't that a ways away? I mean, I ain't sure where we are, an' I heard things 'bout th' place, but I figgered they were exagerratin' about how much a shit hole it was..." Is he being serious? Hard to tell.

"Maybe... have t' find some first." And Corbin would have to find someone to cook it unless the end goal was to set things on fire. He was banned from the family kitchen for anything involving the stove. Or oven. Or the toaster.
alaspooryork: (unarmored: the lord is testing me)

[personal profile] alaspooryork 2019-08-21 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
"I have never gone to school," Delta says, still looking carefully over at the other man. (Also, he's like. Four. Maybe five. But who's counting?) "But I have a brother named Theta who likes skateboards and the color purple, and another named Gamma who prefers to go by Gary."

He extends a hand. "I am Delta."
protective_logic: (Attention Got)

[personal profile] protective_logic 2019-08-21 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
That... is weird. Not impossible. Delta has met two versions of York. But another him? He looks distrustfully at the hand before, after a moment of hesitation, offering his own to shake the stranger's and firmly.

"My name is Delta," he says after a moment. "And Gamma goes by Gary because that's the middle name Omega and I gave him."

Because being named for Greek letters always seemed clinical.

"Depends on the part of Jersey. I'm definitely from the shitty parts."

Nah, if he isn't serious, Tommy is.

"We don't tend to take well to outsiders insulting Jersey, though. It's our shit hole."

Well. We've had a good couple of months. Sometimes you take what you can while you can.

[She doesn't want expect too much, to get herself too emotionally invested.

It's too late for that though.]
crowboy: (We need to talk)

[personal profile] crowboy 2019-08-22 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
Corbin cranes his neck to see the sleeping cat, it's startlingly normal, and thus out of place, but it makes him smile. The cat is indeed sleeping away, curled up into a little crescent.

"Oh? What kinda place was that?" And did he mean like, naked? That wouldn't be any good. At least Corbin had arrived with his clothes, even if they were dirty.
crowboy: (I want to fly)

[personal profile] crowboy 2019-08-22 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
"Well hell, I'm from West Virginia, there's gotta be some state I c'n talk shit about." He pauses. "Other'n Mississippi. An' Alabama I s'pose." Shitty states unite!
doubled_speed: (Rush of the Race)

[personal profile] doubled_speed 2019-08-22 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
"Arkansas?" Tommy suggests. But come on, it would be so easy to make fun of West Virginia.

Still, nice to see more earthlings. "Jersey's better than all those, of course."
crowboy: (You know you like me)

[personal profile] crowboy 2019-08-22 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
Corbin laughs "Shit, yeah that one too."

"Hmm, I guess if'n ya like lookin' at concrete all day. 'Least we got a nice view while ya pass out from drinkin' too much ah your cousin's 'shine an' hackin' up a lung from th' coal dust." He pops another cherry-ish fruit in his mouth, giving Tommy a grin that could best be described as 'cheeky.'

Hey, it goes both ways.
doubled_speed: (Default)

[personal profile] doubled_speed 2019-08-22 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
Really? Tommy rolls his eyes.

"I mean, not dying of black lung sounds pretty awesome. And not being pass out drunk. I think we win."
crowboy: (Beer I didn't pay for tastes better)

[personal profile] crowboy 2019-08-22 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
Corbin shrugs, "If ya can't talk shit 'bout yerself, y'ain't got much business talkin' shit 'bout anyone else. An' I'll still take th' view over jest 'bout anythin'. Way th' mist rolls in over th' mount'ns, or th' lightnin' bugs when they all start flashin' t'gether. Walk all day 'fore y' see 'nother soul if that's what ya want." He pops another fruit into his mouth.

"Prettiest place on God's green Earth. I ain't sure what Jersey's got goin' fer it, but 'til you watched th' sunset in th' Smokies, I don't think you seen beauty." He could talk shit about his home with the best of them, because he loved it, and you couldn't really see the beauty in a place if you ignored the ugly parts.
doubled_speed: (Default)

[personal profile] doubled_speed 2019-08-22 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
"Maybe other people could walk all day and manage that. I can't seem to manage ten minutes."

But that has to do more with the speeds he moves than the isolation of anywhere. Still, Tommy doesn't think he's going to stop this guy from the alcohol fruit.

"Seen the sunset. It was sorta boring."
