Spring Test Drive Meme!
Welcome to the Current Test Drive for The Revival Project!
This game is a spin-off from the closed The Drift Fleet game. For more information about the game, including more details on the setting, please check out the FAQ here or the premise here.
A thread on the TDM will be required for all applications. Please view the FAQ for information about how this works. Any questions about the game please direct to the comment section of the FAQ as well.
If you are a Drift Fleet alumni bringing your character from the game, please label your character as 'DFAU' on your top level. Also, keep in mind you have complete flexibility on how your character comes here. They could be taken before endgame, after endgame, two years after, one year before, etc. It's up to you! If you want to completely restart your character, they're not considered DFAU anymore and won't need the label.
So go! Explore Agra 10! And, as always, HAVE FUN!
Thread ideas:
- Explore the city! There's a map here and a bit more description of some of the buildings here. Most of the buildings are run down and have clearly been abandoned for years; fortunately, the water treatment center appears to be working, but power is intermittent and unreliable. The hotel seems to be the most crowded, but you might want into what appears to be an abandoned storefront and find someone else scavenging or even sleeping.
- There are spaceships! That's right, there are currently several small spaceships grounded in the hangar. They appear to have power, but only one ship will let you enter. (For test drive purposes, the ship that will let you enter is up to you, so just pick whichever name appeals, and go for it!) The other ships won't open for you, but it might be worth poking around the one that will...
- Do you hear a storm? A giant, power-altering storm has been ravaging part of the planet for a month. It shows ghosts of people you know and those you don't. It drains you of any super-human abilities and tries its best to keep you from getting to its origin. Are you going to try anyways? Or are you going to chase the whispers of people from your past? More information can be found here.
- Can you hear me now? Upon arrival, your character will have on their person a small, handheld communications device. Maybe they know exactly how to use a computer, smartphone, or tablet, and immediately blast out a text or video trying to figure out what's going on. Or maybe they're not so tech-savvy after all, and everyone is about to get a lovely shot right up your character's left nostril.
- Wildcard! You're welcome to use any previous test drive scenarios or previous game events as a basis for a thread/situation, or simply make up your own! Keep in mind that you're currently stranded on a planet with only basic necessities, but there is enough food and fresh water. Creature comforts, however, seem to be distinctly lacking...
A
[The source of the voice is initially unseen, but it doesn't sound too far either. But eventually movement from above might catch one's attention as someone stands up atop the ship. The Exo twirls the long knife he has in hand that he'd apparently been using to try prying a panel open.]
Or maybe they expect us to transmat in? I dunno. One of these days I'll figure it out.
no subject
A password? I don't see a panel where you could input one.
[ His lips pull into a small frown as he looks back at the door. ]
And by transmat? What do you mean?
no subject
Oh, I mean like...spoken? Open sesame?
[He pauses expectantly, waiting until an awkward few seconds have passed before he sighs.]
Okay, no 'open sesame'.
Transmat- I... Right. It's matter transfer, of a sort. [The Exo gesticulates with the knife as he tries to pick out an explanation.]
Makes getting things to and from a place so much easier! Don't even gotta open a door, almost like magic- poof! You just disappear from one place and reform somewhere else. Also handy for stowing weapons, because as much as I like my lucky pants, I'd look ridiculous trying to pull out a rocket launcher from them.
[Totally not speaking from experience.]
no subject
His eyes focus on the knife that the other was casually tossing. It didn't seem to be in a threatening matter. Cloud though might not be as quick to dodge it. He listens quietly to the Exo explaining what a transmat actually does. The explanation sounding as if technology had been advanced from where he was from. The rest of the lesson was mostly the Exo being an idiot. ]
You have are from a place with advanced technology. I come from a place where the only traveling around with a Chocobo, airships, vehicles that don't require mako energy, helicopters.
[ A pause as he thinks over the password thing. ] If it's a spoken password it could be voice activated. In that case, the door will never open.
no subject
[He sheathes the knife after one last twirl, then hops right down from the ship, his tattered cloak fluttering after him.]
Voice-activated! Hey, yeah. That can totally be a thing. Although there should still be a practical override, in case of...emergencies or people just wanting to get in.
no subject
[ Cloud's not really much for small talk. Perhaps he'll slowly open up more to it. He knows that he'll need to in the long run but he's going to be stubborn about it. His eyes widen at the sight of the Exo. He's been talking to a robot this entire time. ]
A robot? [ He tilts his head. ] You have a lot of personality for one.
[ Cloud gives a shrug. ] Not my problem, but I do agree that safety protocols should be in place.
no subject
[He shrugs.]
Exo. Big step up from what most people seem to expect of robots. I'd be more offended but a lotta people around here aren't used to guys like me.
[Wait- someone agrees with him? He needs to record these things!]
I know, right? Anyway. Name's Cayde. [He holds out a gloved hand.] You look like a new face. Not that it's hard to pick out new faces around here.
no subject
[ Cloud tilts his head to the other side curiously. ]
What is an Exo? I know it's you. But what are you? [ He's not one to apologize. Cloud has seen some pretty strange things before but not someone like Cayde. ] I've seen creatures that can speak that normally don't.
[ Yeah, he agrees. Only because the whole emergency thing makes sense if you think on it more. ]
Cloud Strife. [ He eyes the hand for a few seconds before taking it with his right gloved hand in a firm handshake. ] I arrived here not too long ago.
no subject
[At the first inquiry of Exos he gestures to himself before Cloud expands on what he means.]
We're people just like you and whoever, just uh...less fleshy. Lifetimes ago, I think we were even human.
[He waves it off, giving Cloud a hearty handshake.]
Cloud! ...Cloud? Well all right then. So, are you every bit as confused about this situation as should be?
no subject
That explains why you don't really seem all robot. [ Cloud wondered if it was a science experiment of some kind. But at the same time he wouldn't dwell on it long given his own history. He looks away from Cayde glancing downward as if shielding himself from a memory. ]
Something wrong? [ He stares at Cayde with his glowing mako infused eyes. His facial expression is serious and not really giving much else away. ] I am. But exploring seemed better than to keep dwelling on it.
no subject
She fearlessly ran distraction against numerous Cabal during a stealth mission. And then I knifed 'em in the back. How many chickens will keep their cool around a bunch of giant armored soldiers huh?
[He's so proud of that chicken.
He's also glad to skirt the details of Exo history, not that he's got all the details ironed out and his own memories are full of more holes than his cotton socks.]
Nah, nothin' wrong. ...hn.
[Not that it's the first time he's seen people with glowing eyes, but he can tell when there's a story, and when it's one that doesn't want to be told right then.]
Good call there. Exploring. Get a feel for everything. There's a good handful of us around the city just gettin' by.
no subject
Not many. Military? What rank are you?
[ He gives a small nod. ]
This place needs a bit of rebuilding. It's not an easy way of life but you work with what you got. Where are people staying at? I need a place to go.
[ Because he's going to need to find an apartment of his own or anywhere for the time being. A bed to sleep on would be better than sleeping under trees or at least a roof over his head. ]
no subject
[He ticks off three of his fingers.]
Three classes of Guardians- Hunters, Titans and Warlocks, mostly pertaining to fighting style. So we got a Vanguard with reps acting as overseers for each group. Me, I'm the Hunter Vanguard.
[Insert jazz hands here. Is Cloud impressed yet? ...it's okay, Cayde won't be too disappointed if he isn't.]
Oh yeah, you said it. It's a wonder half of these places are still standing, but no one's going to complain if they're still inhabitable. There's a hotel thing around the main square of the city. It's...um, across from the center fountain. Other'n that, take your pick- so long as no one's claimed a place, you're welcome to it.
no subject
So, what you're saying is that you're a mentor towards the Hunters? [ He wants to be sure that he's hearing that right. Mentors could end up being excitable puppy types. ]
A hotel is as good as any to stay for now until I find another place to go. All I really need is a room with a bed for now. What does everyone do in terms of jobs? Or is it more where ever your skills take you?
no subject
...sure. Kind of...ish. [He waggles a hand back and forth.] Mostly I just give them stuff to keep 'em busy.
[He snap-points at Cloud then.]
Excellent. A man who knows his priorities. As for jobs? Eh, whatever you can do to make yourself useful. That can include skills. Or maybe you might just figure there's a need for something and no one's gotten to it yet. Which is why I'm working on a bar!
no subject
I was doing a delivery job. I can work on a motorcycle, but I'm sure if I learned a bit more I'll be able to fix other things. [ He doesn't talk about helping with fighting though. As much as his skills would be useful there, there's something keeping him back. Cloud's eyebrows raise up at the mention of a bar. ]
My childhood friend owns a bar. I would help her out sometimes. [ Only because she could make him. ]
no subject
[And then he grins, his expression quite literally lighting up.]
Oh yeah? Well it won't be fancy or anything. I just figured we were in sore need of a place to imbibe and hang out for fun or whatever. But hey, if you wanna help out there now and then, I sure won't argue. I doubt it'll get very busy anyway.
no subject
[ He's not sure how it came with him. Cloud's extremely relieved by it though. If there was transportation of any other kind he would get motion sickness being in the back of it. ]
I haven't really been in a fancy bar. [ Most of the ones he's been to are simple, has a dart board, it's not overly fancy inside but beaten down, a few arcade games. ]
I'm not one to hang out. [ He works alone and is the loner type. Cloud doesn't mind being lonely but he also wants to protect his friends or the people he cares for too. ] Only if you need the help.
no subject
[His horn comes narrowly close as he suddenly leans in at that.]
You got a motorcycle? All I got was- Well okay, I guess I've got no complaint being allowed my hand cannon but there are oh so many other things I am missing right now.
As for the whole bar deal- don't worry, it'll be super laid back. If you happen to come by and no one's tending or whatever, feel free to lend a hand. Oh! I should show you where the place is.
[He digs out his communicator tablet thing and pulls up the map, pointing at the circle (square?) of buildings in the southeastern side of the city.]
Right in there.
no subject
I wouldn't mind having a sword. Motorcycle will get me around in areas that no other ones can. But it won't help protect me against foes.
[ The way Cayde acts, Cloud is starting to be reminded of a puppy. He doesn't even have time to interject on that it's not needed to show him. But the tablet with the map caught his interest. From everything else going on here technology didn't seem all that advance here. The people seem to be making due with what they got. It's the best anyone could do. ]
I'm still not familiar with the lay of the land. It seems easy enough to find.
no subject
[He's so proud of being...productive? If aiming to have a place that people can get drunk in is productive?]
Not too difficult! The Towers are very distinct. Also it's flooded with water in the middle. But hey, if you've got a ride, it shouldn't take you too long to work out where things are.
no subject
It shouldn't take me long to figure out the area. I plan on being careful since cliffs could be sudden. [ He does want to drive around but he needs to be careful. ] I could easily get stuck somewhere exploring.
[ Cloud tilts head head curiously. ] How long have you been here?
no subject
Hey, nothing wrong with old school. Most of the stuff back home don't got wheels.
[The Exo gives him an amused look.]
Sudden cliffs are indeed dangerous. Don't know that there's a whole lot of clear places for a bike outside of the city, and even around the city you gotta watch out for piles of rubble and potholes. -neither of which I am responsible for.
I've been here...maybe a month? I dunno, it was weird. First I got transported to some weird planet because the Agrii figured everyone needed a vacation from whatever storm thingy had happened here. It was sudden and stuff but hey! Who was I to complain about a free vacation?
...of course then you find out about everything else and get here, and all the fun's over.
no subject
I don't have the luxury. From how things are back home probably won't for a while.
[ That's a mouthful. Cloud hangs onto his words as Cayde goes on about vacations. The Agrii. He's quiet as he listens since he's not really sure what to think and he asked the question. He wanted to know some details. ]
Are you sure you weren't dreaming? [ There's a small tiny smirk creeping on his lips as if he's quietly teasing Cayde. His eyebrows are slightly lifted too. ]
no subject
Well of course I was gonna try replicating more ammo and weapons. It worked on Risa. 's where I got this baby.
[He pats the knife at his belt.]
Not quite the same as the one I had but it works. I guess the Agrii disabled the weapon-making feature.
[If an Exo could pout... And yet something to the subtle shift of his features suggests it.]
Oh me neither. They expect me to work all the time. At least I've found some excuses to get out. I like fieldwork better than paperwork.
[He squints at Cloud then before his expression eases into a smirk as he gives the guy a light smack on the back.]
Ha! You do have a sense of humor!
