Max can feel when he closes off. The silence infuriates her further. When Billy takes her words of pained memories as accusations, it just makes it worse. She's ready to spit fire at him all over again, until Billy shares his guilt.

Everything in Max comes to a screeching halt. Fuck.

She tries to get right in front of his pacing path, so she can catch his eyes, make this as clear and simple as possible.

"Hey, Billy. Nothing that happened at the mall, was your fault." She's firm in her words, but her tone has softened down to that level of, 'Here are the facts,' with a tinge of worry and mild confusion. She can't imagine the others didn't try to explain, this is likely just another case of special Hargrove-Mayfield sibling brand stubbornness.

"The only thing you did, in the mall, was save El." This is the part that matters the most, Max breathes out, first, then says every word carefully and pointedly, "You are a hero."

Her eyes are still glassy and she can't be anymore serious about this.
