She could handle the yelling, Billy's rage, him angry at her, but she only realizes when she sees him leaning against the wall - that torn look on his face - this is so much harder. Realizing how much he had protected her, even wanted to - the sorry excuse for a little sister she is - cuts deeper. Max stares at him, listens, feels everything sink into her and fail to process. What has she done? Maybe this is why no one else told him? He's all action. And if he can't act, then what? He breaks?

Max finally moves, steps away from the wall, before she's completely aware of it. She reaches out, carefully, slowly, to gently put a hand on Billy's shoulder.

"There's always a bigger asshole. And you didn't know what was going to happen." Her eyes start to sting, too.

"Maybe we shouldn't waste more time being jerks to each other than we already have."
