He was absolutely teasing and/or joking, but- it was nice to joke around with someone who was close to his age, even if they were from different times and different worlds--he assumed, at least, that they were from different worlds.
"Technology is really cool. I hope, after all this is over, you get to get your own MP3 player some day." But also he was already thinking about dreaming one for her, because she seemed nice and he frequently felt inclined to do things for nice people. The only problem was the actual music part, since he wasn't acquainted with 80s songs and he didn't know what sort of music she was into. He'd have to mull it over for a while.
