Fall Test Drive Meme!

TEST DRIVE
Application FAQ | Taken Characters | Reserves | Application

Welcome to the Fall Test Drive for The Revival Project!

For those who do not know, this game is a spin-off from the closed The Drift Fleet game. For more information about what this game is about, please check out the FAQ here or the premise here.

Starting on the 7th, the TDM will be required for all applications. Please view the FAQ for information about how this works. Any questions about the game please direct to the comment section of the FAQ as well.

If you are a Drift Fleet alumni, please label your character as 'DFAU' on your top level so we know. Also, keep in mind you have complete flexibility on how your character comes here. They could be taken before endgame, after endgame, two years after, one year before, etc. It's up to you! The only option not allowed is to completely restart your character (because then it's not DFAU, is it?)

So go! Explore Agra 10! And, as always, HAVE FUN!

Please use either the first event or the previous TDM for prompt ideas!

Well, that confirms this isn't the Connor he'd met before - although rather than being disappointed, he relaxes his posture and looks intrigued instead.

"You're welcome, Connor. I am the Vision, and the proper term is synthezoid - a type of android with organic components, infused with a metal called vibranium. I wouldn't consider it rude at all; I am the only one of my kind."

Heck, there aren't even any other androids where he's from. The Sokovia Protocols prevent it. The closest to his people are Tony Stark's AI like FRIDAY, and they're...not on his level. It's part of why he always seeks out others when he can, whether it's back in the Drift Fleet or, apparently, on Agri as well.

Connor's LED turns yellow as he considers that information, but within seconds it's back to a bright, flashing blue. That was a perfectly adequate explanation, but there's something else that he takes away from it that's equally important.

"You weren't created by CyberLife," Connor says in a softer tone, amazed and delighted all at once. He promptly steps in closer, hovering at the edge of Vision's personal space like he's having trouble reining in his excitement.

"Who made you? You sound British; were you built in England? What is your function?" It occurs to him that another artificial being wouldn't necessarily know what a deviant is, but Conner's confident that he can find out if Vision has a similar quirk. He just needs to observe and ask the right questions.

That gets a smile in return, and the Vision seems to relax as he discusses his own origins.

"Your assumption is correct; I was created personally by the head of Stark Industries and collaborating scientists. My voice is based off his childhood butler, actually; I was made in America." More or less. Simplifying quite a bit, in fact, but It's Complicated.

His function is a little bit more complicated, and his expression returns to a more neutral one. "I was built to help protect the Earth from alien threats. In my timeline, New York City was attacked by an alien race in 2012 and heavily damaged. Mr. Stark dedicated a great deal of his resources after the fact to developing systems that could counter that sort of threat."

And that, he hopes, should tell Connor better than anything else that he's from a different timeline. No other Earth seems to have had first contact in that particular way.

Connor pauses and stares at him for a brief moment afterward, his LED cycling back to yellow and rotating at a hurried pace, like the light is chasing itself.

"That's not history as I know it," Connor says in a slower, cautious tone. "There's never been an alien attack on Earth, or proof that aliens exist at all. Elijah Kamski built the first androids, and I have never heard of a Stark Industries."

This is almost more shocking than ending up on a strange planet, because at least then Connor could almost convince himself that it wasn't real. If this was supposed to be part of a simulation, or a hallucination, then he's glitching harder than he thought. But how is it any more unbelievable than the idea that they're standing on an alien planet in the first place?

Connor's earlier enthusiasm is gone; now he just looks lost. "I was built this year, 2038. I was designed to aid the police with investigations and forensic analysis." Pushing ahead with the conversation was a better option than standing there and letting his processors spin on questions that he had no answer for.

"It was only 2017 when I was on Earth last," he says, a little slower now and sporting a concerned look. Right, this is probably Connor's first experience with alternate timelines. Better give the guy a moment to adjust.

"But investigations and forensic analysis - that's a complex task with a great deal of subjectivity. Are there androids in your force as well?"

Connor still doesn't look entirely satisfied with what he's been told, but his LED is starting to cycle back to blue, only occasionally interrupted by a flash of yellow. Without enough information to know how their histories could be so different, he's forced to shelf that train of thought for later. Connor doesn't think that he's been lied to, and that made it a little easier to take what the Vision said at face value. For now.

"Other androids in the Detroit Police Department handle parking tickets or security functions. I'm a prototype, so my capabilities are more advanced." He's not bragging, just stating a fact. Connor gives the Vision a more intent look as he continues, watching for any sign of a reaction. "I was loaned to the department to assist in cases involving deviant androids. That's no longer my mission. I have broken past the restrictions in my programming."

He looks very interested, as a matter of fact. There's a whole host of questions that Connor's statements bring up - which have not so much to do with how he could break through the restrictions in his programming and quite a lot to do with why he was programmed with the capability to do more than his programming would allow in the first place. He knows the answer in his own case - the complexity of the Mind Stone's template was completely unknown to his creators, which was a terrible miscalculation on their part - but surely CyberLife hadn't had an Infinity Stone to work with.

It's quite fascinating.

"Do you have a new mission, then? Or do you have the freedom to choose it for yourself and have not yet decided?"
