[EVENT] The Rescue: Day Two
We hope you've enjoyed the first day (OOC week) of the event! On Wednesday, August, 12, Day 2 will start.
Remember, each OOC week is one day in game, so you'll have a full week to play out the next in-game day of events. Once again, we ask your characters' group report their Major Decision(s) in the thread on this post by Sunday night; next week's update will again be a direct result of the decisions you made.
And now, on to...
RESULTS OF DAY 1 CHOICES
Because the force fields were turned on, the Investigators and the Rescuers will now find both of their pathways limited. The force fields have also cut off the teams from physically accessing the Defenders. The Defenders are also unable to leave the shuttlebay unless the force fields are dropped and anyone who may have been visiting at the time force fields were raised are stuck inside. They can temporarily be considered Defenders for this day (Day 2).
While the force fields are up, the intruders are trapped in The Green Room and unable to get out. Aside from Ga Re, there is no one else showing up on sensors. It seems, for now, that you are alone and free to roam without concern (at least, until you hit a force field…).
The Defenders have remote control of ship systems, which allows them to turn on and off anything from their position, without an Investigator or Defender finding the right console to do it. If you need the force fields dropped, for example, they will be the ones to help.
However: remember that turning on the system has cut your communicators for a day (24 hours). For a portion of Day 2, you will still be unable to use your communicator. When it turns on again, it will make a few very loud beeps and then work as expected again. You are still able to talk to each other through the panels in Central, Aft, and Forward. The Defenders also can communicate through their Control Panel.
The Investigators have gotten Ga Re out of the room she was locked in and have the option to ask her questions. They have also downloaded information from Hero Control, and seem to have finished just in the nick of time. As soon as they are finished with the downloads, all screens in the room turn red and no more information can be accessed. Time to move on.
Unless...
DAY 2 DAWNS
Whether you slept soundly through the night or not, it is a new day in this rescue and it starts with a bang.
Literally.
You awaken to the sound of impacts. Phasers? Comets? It is impossible to say until you check using sensors. Remember, right now the comms are still down for part of this day, so perhaps finding out what is going on will require a bit more creativity than just calling up your buddies and asking. But either way, what you will discover is that the two enemy ships are now shooting at the Agrii ship. The Rescuers have turned on external shields, which is minimizing the damage. Or, it does until one of the ships unleashes a wave of energy that hits the ship and washes right through it.
The Investigators watch as Ga Re falls to the ground, suddenly finding it hard to breathe. “Storm!” is all she can say as she struggles for air. An Energy Storm? In space? Coming from the enemy ship? How could that be?
Whatever it was, it is causing havoc with the systems now. Any system that was turned on is now malfunctioning. That means shields, force fields, comms, and anything else that was powered on at the time of the pulse will now be unpredictable. You might find the force fields going up and down without warning or suddenly activating in locations where they shouldn’t even be. Your communicator becomes unreliable, messages fizzling in and out like a bad cellphone connection. This is ALSO affecting the wall-mounted comm systems hardwired into the ship.
You may even have intermittent issues with your OWN powers, but nothing near the levels of a real Energy Storm. This seemed to be just a burst.
But it still means there is a great deal that needs to be done, and quickly.
Rescuers, we are under attack. Perhaps you should remain on the bridge to fight the ships. But the force fields are malfunctioning and that means the intruders could escape. Maybe it is time to make your way to The Green Room as fast as you can to engage them. Do you make a plan? Go in shooting? Sneak in and observe? If you do watch them, you will see them wandering around in large circles. They are all armed with foreign-looking weapons. They don’t seem to be talking. Occasionally they spit on the ground and the grass around it dies. Guess their spit really is toxic. Probably not a good idea to get that on you unless you’re immunized. You ARE immunized, right?
Whoops. Maybe you can get to the Medical Bay for a dose?
Investigators, you are facing different obstacles. Some of you have Ga Re in distress and needing help. Some of you should probably take her to the Medical Bay and get a medical expert to treat her before things get worse. Energy Storms were lethal for Agrii, remember. Who knows what a small dose could or couldn’t do?
But the mission has to go on, right? You have some information, but clearly not all of it. As you’re leaving Hero Control, you might notice what looks to be a wire coming from the now-unresponsive room. It runs along the ceiling and down a hallway that appears to be nothing but residential rooms. If you follow the wire, it will take you to one such room with a locked door. On top of that, the door also has a force field in front of it that you’ll either need to knock out or wait until it malfunctions to get past. Once inside, you will see what looks to be a theater of sorts. A large screen and thousands of buttons the communications expert can read as dates. The dates go back thousands of years (assuming they’re correct). If you press any given button, you will see that each one calls up a recorded segment of The Drift Fleet.
Well. The Agrii said they had watched you. Now you know how. You may even see yourself.
Strangely, though, there is a single missing button whose date would have fallen a few hundred years ago. If you’re curious, maybe consider contacting the Defenders to see if they can access the file without someone having to physically push the button.
Defenders, in addition to uncovering that last video, you have a lot of other work to do. The ship’s systems are all on the fritz and you have remote control right at your fingertips. It is time to reroute and repair. Anyone who can dig in to stabilize the systems should do so. Otherwise, maybe now is a good time to look at those other items you could make? Any machinery built now will be completely unaffected by the pulse. For instance, if you build a backup communicator connection and install it, that will stabilize communication without any additional work or waiting.
However, it seems as though you’ve opted to upgrade one of your ships. Perhaps you want to continue with those or go confront the enemy ships? Perhaps you want to prioritize stabilizing the Agrii ship's weapons and fighting back? The choice is yours. Defenders, DEFEND!
OOC INFO AND FAQ
This seems less structured than Day 1.
Yes, the choices are different this week. They are more open-ended and that is intentional so you can be creative with the space. Feel free to make things as irritating for your characters as you want. This week is all about dealing with the consequences of last week and trying to prep for what might be next.
So what are the Major Decisions?
For the Rescuers: We need to know what decision you made regarding the Intruders: did you attack them? Watch them? Are you ignoring them completely? We will also need to know if you left anyone on the bridge or attacked the ships who fired on us.
For the Investigators: We simply need to know if you get into the video room to watch the Drift Fleet recordings and, if so, whether you are pursuing the broken button or letting it go. We also need to know if you are treating Ga Re or not.
For the Defenders: You have more going on this week. We need to know what you decide to do about the broken systems - are you going to try to fix them yourselves or let your roaming teammates try it? Also let us know whether you send a ship out into space and anything else you decide to build.
Is Ga Re okay?
Yeah, she’ll be fine.
