Welcome to the Current Test Drive for The Revival Project!

This game is a spin-off from the closed The Drift Fleet game. For more information about the game, including more details on the setting, please check out the FAQ here or the premise here.

A thread on the TDM will be required for all applications. Please view the FAQ for information about how this works. Any questions about the game please direct to the comment section of the FAQ as well.

If you are a Drift Fleet alumni bringing your character from the game, please label your character as 'DFAU' on your top level. Also, keep in mind you have complete flexibility on how your character comes here. They could be taken before endgame, after endgame, two years after, one year before, etc. It's up to you! If you want to completely restart your character, they're not considered DFAU anymore and won't need the label.

Thread ideas:

- Explore the city! There's a map here and a bit more description of some of the buildings here. Most of the buildings are run down and have clearly been abandoned for years; fortunately, the water treatment center appears to be working, but power is intermittent and unreliable. The hotel seems to be the most crowded, but you might want into what appears to be an abandoned storefront and find someone else scavenging or even sleeping.

- There are spaceships! That's right, there are currently several small spaceships grounded in the hangar. They appear to have power, but only one ship will let you enter. (For test drive purposes, the ship that will let you enter is up to you, so just pick whichever name appeals, and go for it!) The other ships won't open for you, but it might be worth poking around the one that will...

- Do you hear a storm? A giant, power-altering storm has been ravaging part of the planet for a month. It shows ghosts of people you know and those you don't. It drains you of any super-human abilities and tries its best to keep you from getting to its origin. Are you going to try anyways? Or are you going to chase the whispers of people from your past? More information can be found here.

- Can you hear me now? Upon arrival, your character will have on their person a small, handheld communications device. Maybe they know exactly how to use a computer, smartphone, or tablet, and immediately blast out a text or video trying to figure out what's going on. Or maybe they're not so tech-savvy after all, and everyone is about to get a lovely shot right up your character's left nostril.

- Wildcard! You're welcome to use any previous test drive scenarios or previous game events as a basis for a thread/situation, or simply make up your own! Keep in mind that you're currently stranded on a planet with only basic necessities, but there is enough food and fresh water. Creature comforts, however, seem to be distinctly lacking...

[ The video begins with a view over the city. Whoever is transmitting is obviously in one of the upper levels of one of the taller building, simply letting the camera pan over the ruins of the city. Then a voice can be heard, deliberately off-camera. It's a pleasant voice, though. Even and- Almost soothing. ]

Someone may have to fill me in: How long. How long has it been since the rebuilding of this realm has begun? Months? A little more than a year, perhaps?

[ Don't worry. He knows the answer. He has spent some time studying the network before addressing it. ]

I will admit that- I am not surprised that the aid of the Gods is now being sought.

[ And the camera now pulls back and away from its view over the city to finally show its owner, casually leaning against the remains windowsill at a hole within a wall that at some point contained an actual window.

He simply smiles. ]

I am Loki. Of Asgard. And it appears you require my help.

[ The tone alone is enough for Steve to know that this is not his Loki. Still, he can't help but smile at the video and feel warmth spread through his entire chest. Once, the two of them were such close friends. It would never be exactly the same and it shouldn't be, either, but just having someone like Loki around made Steve a little happier.

He responded, face a little unsure as he connected with the Network and with the man. ]

You sure know how to make an entrance...

[ The Asgardian doesn't appear surprised at this particular familiar face - And he remains civil. ]

I would be wounded if you expected anything less. Are you happy to see me, at least?

[ Steve isn't entirely sure how to answer that. Still, he can't help but smile and suppress a roll of his eyes. ]

Depends what your plans are, Loki. I've seen you quite a few times, now. I know better than to make snap judgements.

[ As for his plans... Well, he's not going to tell you. ]

This place is kind of a Loki magnet, it may have ruined your dramatic entrance.

[Billy flashes a teasing smile, almost fond.]

[ He gives the screen a mildly interested look. ]

Well then. Since you know who I am, I believe it would only be polite for you to introduce yourself in turn.

[ And he will skip over your question for now. ]

Arrival

[A new arrival had appeared, much like the others. For some, his costume might have been familiar, if a little more majestic than what they're used to. His cape fluttered behind him as he pulled of the sunglasses he appeared in, eyeing them with a frown before noting that he wasn't alone.]

...Where are we?

Do you hear a storm?

[The storm had come in with little warning. Maybe that's how you'd gotten caught up in it. That or you'd wandered off after one of the apparitions. Either way, it was Mysterio who caught you by the wrist before you went plummeting down into the earth, hauling you back up with a relieved expression.]

You good? You're not going to go running after that again, are you? 'Cause I can't fly here, we've been over that.

Network

[Beck looks almost sheepish as the camera turns on, a calculated humanizing expression before he gives a more serious nod.]

I tried to do a bit a research so I don't bombard you all with the same questions, but before I start- am I right in understanding that more than a few people have had issues with their powers not working right in this place?

[He gives a small laugh, but supplies the answer fairly easily.]

...William Kaplan. Everyone calls me Billy. Or Wiccan, depending on the clothes.

[He gestures vaguely at himself, and a blue shimmer of light shifts him from his own casual wear to his Wiccan costume, and back again.]

[ Considering Jon isn't much of a fan of video transmissions, his end remains audio-only. He may not even be looking at his own screen but rather replying while doing something else. ]

Most questions get answered by the data point anyway. So I suppose you found that one.

[ An unspoken 'Congratulations.' lingers after that sentence. ]

You are starting with a rather specific question. How about leading with something as basic as an introduction, instead?

So you are saying the Agrii took or altered some of your powers?

[ A different version... That's something he will have to look into, but as of now will not fret too much about.

Instead, he gives a generous nod. ]

I am certain any version of myself has an eye for talent. How many other versions of myself can I expect to encounter in this realm?

[ He's making this sound as if it's the most normal thing, of course. ]

[He smiles though, not seeming too worried.]

None at the moment, you're the own and only.

You mean- At all?

[ Huh. ]

So far the Agrii haven't taken any abilities away, not entirely, at least. What sort of powers are we speaking of?

[ Loki looks a little offended at being called out like that, yet the expression only lasts for a moment before the Asgardian reverts back to a display of nonchalance. ]

Looks like you are left with the best of me at least.

Storm

[ Steve had known better. This wasn't his first apparition but he still had chased after it like a hopeful child. Thank God that this man had grabbed him, otherwise he would have been splattered on the ground like so much ground meat.

He smiled at the stranger, nodding. ]

Yeah. Yeah, I am good. Sorry about that.

[ The apparition was gone now and so much the better. ]

Thanks for the save. That would have been a pretty embarrassing way to go, after everything...

[ He still smiles. ]

Zack Fair | Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII

Okay but the thing of it is, the really important, down-to-the-nitty-gritty, is that Zack expected things to be a lot more, well, green. That's what happens, right? You die, you enter the Lifestream, and you do... well, whatever it is that you do when you're dead; having never died before, he's a little vague on that part. But he can say for sure that he hadn't expected to wake up laying in a strange bed, all bandaged up and wearing a uniform significantly less bloody and bullet-hole-ridden than he thinks it should be, and feeling a lot more in one piece than he thinks he should be.

He loses a little time then, he thinks, in the contemplation of where he is and why and how, blinking at an unfamiliar ceiling and pretty certain that he should be feeling the rain on his face instead. But no, it's most assuredly a ceiling, and he's kind of tired of looking at it, so he pushes himself up on an elbow, then onto his hands to sit up, then to staaa...

Whoops, okay, no, standing is a bad idea. Sitting. Sitting on the edge of the bed, feet on the floor, and trying to blink through the dizziness. He's pretty sure he hears someone about, too, and maybe he should have addressed that detail first? "Hello...?"
