WINTER TEST DRIVE MEME

WINTER TEST DRIVE MEME
Application FAQ | Taken Characters | Reserves | Application

Welcome to the Current Test Drive for The Revival Project!

This game is a spin-off from the closed The Drift Fleet game. For more information about the game, including more details on the setting, please check out the FAQ here or the premise here.

A thread on the TDM will be required for all applications. Please view the FAQ for information about how this works. Any questions about the game please direct to the comment section of the FAQ as well.

If you are a Drift Fleet alumni bringing your character from the game, please label your character as 'DFAU' on your top level. Also, keep in mind you have complete flexibility on how your character comes here. They could be taken before endgame, after endgame, two years after, one year before, etc. It's up to you! If you want to completely restart your character, they're not considered DFAU anymore and won't need the label.

So go! Explore Agra 10! And, as always, HAVE FUN!

Thread ideas:

Explore the city!
Here's a map and a bit more description of some of the buildings here.

Most of the buildings are run down and have clearly been abandoned for years; fortunately, the water treatment center appears to be working, but power is intermittent and unreliable. What used to be stores or places to live in lies in ruins, but there may still be something to scavenge among the rubble. Do you want to risk a swim in the flooded area that has turned into a deep lake that has yet to be fully explored; or does it draw you to some of the more prominent and partially restored buildings, such as the hotel, the hospital or the amphitheater.

If you are lucky, you might even stumble over The Deep End, the bar located on one of the mid-levels of the tower residences in one of the residence towers. Unfortunately no bright neon signs can lead you there, but it does exist.

Visit the spaceships!
That's right, there are currently several small spaceships grounded in the hangar - Or what remains of them. It's painfully obvious that these ships have crash-landed not too long ago and were taken back to the hangar for repairs. You were assigned to one of them and its doors will open for you and let you enter if you wish. (For test drive purposes, the ship that will let you enter is up to you, so just pick whichever name appeals, and go for it!) The other ships won't open for you, but as neither of them look as if they will be leaving anytime soon that doesn't really matter either way.

Maybe look around anyway. Or try your hand at some repairs?

Try the network!
Upon arrival, your character will have on their person a small, handheld communications device. Maybe they know exactly how to use a computer, smartphone, or tablet, and immediately blast out a text or video trying to figure out what's going on. Or maybe they're not so tech-savvy after all, and everyone is about to get a lovely shot right up your character's left nostril.

There be storms...
These power-altering storms keep ravaging parts of the planet every once in a while. No one truly knows where they come from or what to do about them yet, but one of them appears to be approaching. You have the option to find shelter in one of the buildings to wait for it to pass. Unless, of course, you rather feel drawn to investigate.

Should you step inside the storm, or even get lost in it, it will show ghosts of people you know and those you don't. It drains you of any super-human abilities and tries its best to keep you from getting to its origin. Are you going to try anyways? Or are you going to chase the whispers of people from your past? Maybe you will simply find yourself calling for help or stumble across another lost soul in need of assistance.

More information can be found here.

Wildcard!
You're welcome to use any previous test drive scenarios or previous game events as a basis for a thread/situation, or simply make up your own! Keep in mind that you're currently stranded on a planet with only basic necessities, but there is enough food and fresh water. Creature comforts, however, seem to be distinctly lacking. Quite unlike a gathering of potentially dangerous creatures to encounter. The setting is yours to explore and have fun with!

foundlingfather: (What do you want?)

They certainly are an odd pairing, the two of them. The shiny armored Mandalorian. With the small, green toddler in his plain brown onesie, that looks a few sizes too big for him.

Din is on alert for anyone that might walk into the hangar. But usually the ones that would enter, make themselves known. Seemingly completely oblivious to the attention he's drawn, the Grogu toddles his way over to the Mandalorian with the tool. The Mandalorian lowering himself to kneel, and take the tool that's held up to him.

"Thanks, kid." Even if Din could've just as easily walked over and picked it up, it gave the kid something to do. Grogu coos in acknowledgement of the thanks. As the Mandalorian straightens to finish the repair he's doing, the child turns away. Dark eyes taking in the rest of the hangar for a moment, with small little grunts. Before he goes back to where he'd been before, plopping down like children tend to do, but his gaze turns up to watch the Mandalorian work.

An odd pairing indeed, but Obi-Wan has seen stranger things in his time. Even so, he's just as aware of the species of the little toddler as he was the Mandalorian. It's clear that they're from the same galaxy that he is, which makes it all the more curious. Not to mention what he senses from the child. It was no ordinary being after all.

Raising a hand to stroke his bearded chin, Obi-Wan continued to watch them interact. Deciding he could learn more about them just from watching before making his presence known. At least known to the Mando. He had suspicions, and he didn't know if this particular Mandalorian was friendly to Jedi or not. Did he even know what he had with him? It was better to be cautious. Perhaps instead he could reach the child?

Thus, closing his eyes, Obi-Wan reached out through the Force. Aiming to touch the young mind of little Grogu. Nothing harmful, a proverbial tap on the shoulder to get his attention. To see if he felt it and would send anything back.
foundlingfather: (Grogu: I want this!)

Spoilers, just in case

[personal profile] foundlingfather 2020-11-30 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Grogu's connection to the Force was there, yet it was a weaker connection. Specially in comparison to someone such as Obi-wan, a trained Knight who used his connection all the time. Particularly telling in that he seems completely unaware, that there's even another Force user in the hangar with him.

At least, that is, until the force-tap on the shoulder.

The reaction is almost immediate, in that Grogu's head quickly swivels from watching the Mandalorian, to looking around the hangar, a soft noise that almost sounds like a 'huh?' escaping him. He's felt this before, not long ago when they met Ahsoka on Corvus and they convened.

It takes a minute before he puts two and two together. One small three-fingered hand raises, and his dark colored eyes narrow a little as he focuses, and tentatively pokes back.

Partly hidden by his beard, Obi-Wan's lips pull slightly in a smile as the child responds. He was young, and clearly untrained, but the signs were there. As their minds touched, Obi-Wan tried to communicate with the little one. Not with any sort of words, but with feelings.

Over here, little one. Can you find me?

Crouching down next to the ship, the Jedi tried to direct Grogu's attention in his direction. To follow his feelings to the person that was reaching out for him. To use his senses rather than his sight.
foundlingfather: (Grogu: Yes father?)

[personal profile] foundlingfather 2020-12-02 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
Grogu recognized this, it was how he and Ahsoka had communicated. But, Ahsoka wasn't hidden from him.

The feelings from Grogu's side come as curious, and hesitant. The uncertainty of this person he doesn't know.

I don't know

He even glances back up to the Mandalorian for a moment. He looks away again, and focuses once again. He knows the Mandalorian is here if he needs him, and Ahsoka was good. Perhaps this person was the same. He concentrates, trying to feel for where the man is. Eventually he climbs to his feet, and starts his way toward Obi-wan's location. Halting to occasionally to check where he's going.
hadthehighground: (looking on)

[personal profile] hadthehighground 2020-12-02 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, yes, he recognizes the hesitation. The reluctance to leave what he knows and to venture toward the unknown. Such feelings were rooted in fear. Obi-Wan can also sense the attachment the child has for the Mandalorian. How curious.

Is he good to you?

Did this man treat the youngster well? Obi-Wan has met many types of Mandalorians, and not all of them savory. Even so he continues to beckon the child. Sending waves of assurance and and calm, to show that he means no harm.
foundlingfather: (Grogu: Yes die)

[personal profile] foundlingfather 2020-12-02 05:59 am (UTC)(link)
It's a fear from spending so many years feeling lost and alone, not wanting to go back there. The assurance is enough to calm the fear a little, and he toddles on.

Yes. He protects me, takes care of me. He cares more than he likes to show.

There's a warm feeling, like a child about their parent. Mando wasn't the best dad in the universe. But Grogu doesn't really have anything to compare him to.

He finally stops about ten feet away, when he can finally spot the man. His ears perking as he tilts his head with a curious croon.
hadthehighground: (Lovely Smile)

[personal profile] hadthehighground 2020-12-02 05:15 pm (UTC)(link)
A feeling that Obi-Wan knows all too well himself, even if it hasn’t been years for him yet. Thus there is a sympathy that he conveys to the young one as well.

I’m glad. Where are you from?

The warmth he has for his caretaker is endearing. It reminds the Jedi of times past. He had felt much the same way for his old master, Qui-Gon Jinn and he knew Anakin had similar feelings for him as well. The thought causing a little bit of sadness to bleed into the connection with the child.

Though when the toddler stops at a distance, the robed man pulls back his hood. A soft smile on his bearded face as he looked at the youngling.

“Hello there. You found me.”
foundlingfather: (Don't look at me like that)

[personal profile] foundlingfather 2020-12-03 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not a great feeling, at all. Fortunately, he's no longer lost or alone, not since Mando found him. He sends back gratitude for the sympathy.

Coruscant. Raised in the Jedi temple.

Of course there's mixed feelings that come with this. Both good and bad memories. The feeling of sadness that filters from Obi-wan's side, makes his ears lower, his expression turning a little sad.

It's right about then, that Din finally notices the kid's wandered off. Turning to ask for another tool, or check on him, and kid is gone. He's quick to turn and look around, checking the hangar, and...spotting him near one of the other ships...? He could hear a voice he doesn't recognize, too. He sets the tool he'd be using down, and walks toward where Grogu is.

"Hey, kid. What are--" His steps slow and eventually stop when he spots the newcomer. Whether he recognizes Obi-wan as a Jedi or not is unclear. But there's no immediate hostility or anger toward him either.

"New here?" He addresses Obi-wan, calm, but a little tense. Not sure of the man's intentions yet. Grogu for his point turns side to Mando, and lifts a small hand to point at Obi-wan with a little whine 'look what I found, dad'
hadthehighground: (but what if...)

[personal profile] hadthehighground 2020-12-03 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)
At that revelation, Obi-Wan's eyes light up. From the Temple on Coruscant? Then that could mean...

Me too.

That's all he has time to send back to little Grogu before Mando begins his frantic search. Sensing the man's tenseness, the Jedi stands up fully when he finally spots them. He remains calm and nods in reply to the Mandalorian's question. His hands folded in his sleeves and looking as unthreatening as he possibly could.

"Yes, actually," he says softly before his eyes stray to the toddler once more.

"Forgive me. I was becoming acquainted with your little friend here. I mean no harm."
foundlingfather: (Don't look at me like that)

[personal profile] foundlingfather 2020-12-08 03:50 am (UTC)(link)
Grogu wonders if this man was like Ahsoka. But of course Mando interrupts before he can ask further.

Mando watches the cloaked man for a minute. His tenseness comes from back home too. Being on the run, constantly have to look over your shoulder. Doesn't exactly lead to being relaxed. He knows the chances of it happening are small, but he worries about Gideon or one of his men showing up, wanting the kid.

Obi-wan's unthreatening stance does put him at some ease, however. Even if wonders how Grogu found the guy. Still he shifts his weight to one leg, and relaxes his own posture into more nonthreatening one, as he listens to Obi-wan's answer.

"I don't like him wandering off. Usually he sticks close. " His helmet tilts down to look at the child, a mild reprimand in tone. Like a 'how many times I have I told you not to wander off.' than any real anger. Grogu's response is what could almost be a 'pbbt', he was fine dad. If Obi-wan was going to do anything to the kid, he would have by now, right? Specially when Mando wasn't looking. Mando raises his helm to look to the Jedi again.

"Well I'd say welcome, but this isn't exactly the nicest city." Mando replies. At least the buildings on Navarro, Tatooine and other planets weren't crumbling like this. Even if they were sparse. "Names Mando. You've already met Grogu." Said child, looks up to Mando with an acknowledging coo.

[personal profile] hadthehighground 2020-12-08 03:24 pm (UTC)(link)
"Ah, that was my fault I'm afraid. My apologies. I had asked him to find me."

Obi-Wan again glanced down at the little green toddler when he made sounds at his caretaker, a smile again pulling at the man's lips. His attention quickly turning back to Mando as he introduced himself, the Jedi's brows raising curiously.

"Is that actually your name?" He really doubts it, and it shows in his voice, because it seems silly for a Mandalorian to just call himself Mando. "Regardless, I'm Ben Kenobi, and it's good to meet the both of you. Especially little Grogu, he's a remarkable child, as I'm sure you are aware."
foundlingfather: (This is mine)

[personal profile] foundlingfather 2020-12-10 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
Ben can't see it, but Din frowns under his helmet at the questioning of his name.

"No. Only those with access to the archives on Mandalore, know my name." And Karga and Cara, thanks for Gideon. Still, there weren't many that knew it. Mando steps up closer to Grogu, crouching next to him, but his helmeted gaze remained on Ben.

"You asked him to find you? How--" Give him a minute to clue in, Ben. His hidden eyes widening a little in realization.

"Wait. Are you...a Jedi?" Probably out of all the reactions Ben was expecting from the Mandalorian, this isn't it. The question isn't mocking, nor in anger. It's genuine. After all the searching back home and only finding Ahsoka, did they really find one so easily on Agra-10?
hadthehighground: (He did)

[personal profile] hadthehighground 2020-12-10 05:56 pm (UTC)(link)
That statement caused Obi-Wan to give the Mandalorian a bit of a strange look. He had never heard of such a thing, and he had known quite a few Mandalorians. This one seemed like an odd one. Before he can ask though, Mando asks his own questions, and the man hesitates for a moment. It's the genuine earnestness, and lack of hostility that gets him to answer.

"I was, yes. In fact, I come from the same place as Grogu. I knew of him. From a distance at least."

The Jedi Temple had been a big place, but having been on the High Council, he knew a lot of what had gone on. And the fact that there was a youngling just like Master Yoda was not something that could be easily forgotten.
foundlingfather: (Considering my life choices)

[personal profile] foundlingfather 2020-12-11 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
Stop giving him strange looks. Everyone lately, including Bo-Katan and her group, has been giving him weird looks for his beliefs. He's seriously starting to question it because of them. Mando's silent as he listens to the answer, helmet tilting a bit.

"The Jedi temple?" He remembers that much from what Ahsoka had told him of Grogu's past. A soft sigh escapes him. "I do know Grogu has..powers, seen him do things I can't explain." He'll admit, acknowledging that yes he's aware of how remarkable the kid is. He goes to stand up once again, scooping Grogu into his arms as he does so with a soft grunt.

"Back home, I had been quested with taking Grogu back to the Jedi." And what a hell of a journey it's been. It's like the universe has it out for his ship. "After months of looking for leads, I recently found one. Do you know Ahsoka Tano?"

It was clear that Mando here knew next to nothing about the Jedi, or his ward’s abilities. Being tasked to take this child to a Jedi, while certainly the right thing, was odd. Wouldn’t seeking out a Jedi put them in danger? After everything thats happened?

Though before he can start to question or comment on any of that, Obi-Wan’s thoughts come to an abrupt halt as he mentions that name. Clear emotion flashing across his features. Shock, sorrow, and yet maybe even a bit of hope?

“Ahsoka Tano? You mean to tell me she’s alive?”

That would be a yes.

From the time that Mando comes from, the Empire had fallen. But there certainly wasn't any less danger. He watches the emotions play across Obi-wan's face at the name mentioning. He nods in confirmation.

"I got a lead that led me to her on the planet Corvus." He tilts his head. "Something wrong?" Maybe feeling Obi-wan's emotions, Grogu gives a little whine, as he turns to look at him. The noise making Mando glance down at the child.

"No, nothing is wrong..." In fact quite the opposite, the Jedi clearly trying to keep his emotions at bay. Relief, and joy filled him at the news, and yet a renewed sorrow as well.

"I was just not sure if anyone had survived." He paused, gathering his composure and releasing these feelings he had into the Force.

"She is very dear to me. I had a student, and she was his student. You could say she was like a daughter to me."
