WINTER TEST DRIVE MEME

WINTER TEST DRIVE MEME
Application FAQ | Taken Characters | Reserves | Application

Welcome to the Current Test Drive for The Revival Project!

This game is a spin-off from the closed The Drift Fleet game. For more information about the game, including more details on the setting, please check out the FAQ here or the premise here.

A thread on the TDM will be required for all applications. Please view the FAQ for information about how this works. Any questions about the game please direct to the comment section of the FAQ as well.

If you are a Drift Fleet alumni bringing your character from the game, please label your character as 'DFAU' on your top level. Also, keep in mind you have complete flexibility on how your character comes here. They could be taken before endgame, after endgame, two years after, one year before, etc. It's up to you! If you want to completely restart your character, they're not considered DFAU anymore and won't need the label.

So go! Explore Agra 10! And, as always, HAVE FUN!

Thread ideas:

Explore the city!
Here's a map and a bit more description of some of the buildings here.

Most of the buildings are run down and have clearly been abandoned for years; fortunately, the water treatment center appears to be working, but power is intermittent and unreliable. What used to be stores or places to live in lies in ruins, but there may still be something to scavenge among the rubble. Do you want to risk a swim in the flooded area that has turned into a deep lake that has yet to be fully explored; or does it draw you to some of the more prominent and partially restored buildings, such as the hotel, the hospital or the amphitheater.

If you are lucky, you might even stumble over The Deep End, the bar located on one of the mid-levels of the tower residences in one of the residence towers. Unfortunately no bright neon signs can lead you there, but it does exist.

Visit the spaceships!
That's right, there are currently several small spaceships grounded in the hangar - Or what remains of them. It's painfully obvious that these ships have crash-landed not too long ago and were taken back to the hangar for repairs. You were assigned to one of them and its doors will open for you and let you enter if you wish. (For test drive purposes, the ship that will let you enter is up to you, so just pick whichever name appeals, and go for it!) The other ships won't open for you, but as neither of them look as if they will be leaving anytime soon that doesn't really matter either way.

Maybe look around anyway. Or try your hand at some repairs?

Try the network!
Upon arrival, your character will have on their person a small, handheld communications device. Maybe they know exactly how to use a computer, smartphone, or tablet, and immediately blast out a text or video trying to figure out what's going on. Or maybe they're not so tech-savvy after all, and everyone is about to get a lovely shot right up your character's left nostril.

There be storms...
These power-altering storms keep ravaging parts of the planet every once in a while. No one truly knows where they come from or what to do about them yet, but one of them appears to be approaching. You have the option to find shelter in one of the buildings to wait for it to pass. Unless, of course, you rather feel drawn to investigate.

Should you step inside the storm, or even get lost in it, it will show ghosts of people you know and those you don't. It drains you of any super-human abilities and tries its best to keep you from getting to its origin. Are you going to try anyways? Or are you going to chase the whispers of people from your past? Maybe you will simply find yourself calling for help or stumble across another lost soul in need of assistance.

More information can be found here.

Wildcard!
You're welcome to use any previous test drive scenarios or previous game events as a basis for a thread/situation, or simply make up your own! Keep in mind that you're currently stranded on a planet with only basic necessities, but there is enough food and fresh water. Creature comforts, however, seem to be distinctly lacking. Quite unlike a gathering of potentially dangerous creatures to encounter. The setting is yours to explore and have fun with!

The Exo shrugged at that, deciding to leave complicated stories for another time, though he did chuckle. "Ripley." A nod. "Sounds like you got some interesting experience with these synthetics." He gestured vaguely at the drink then. "Name's still in progress. It was suggested as the Agra Ten special, which by the way, is the name of the planet."

That flickered in her memory, courtesy of the download she'd received. It wasn't all that unlike the foggy memories she sifted through that belonged to Ellen. Interesting. Another sip, then she gave Cayde a half-shrug. "I've had worse." Considering how long she'd been alive, that was saying something. Thanks to Johner's homemade brew, she could genuinely say that. "So, Cayde, if you're not from this place, why are you tending bar?"
deal_me_in: (Then I shot that guy)

[personal profile] deal_me_in 2021-02-08 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
"Something to do during the downtimes. And there's a lot of downtime," came Cayde's reply. "I figured this place needed a bar. Can you believe there wasn't one? I guess there's priorities for people feeling their way around a new, ruined place but still. It's like a staple."
monstermama: (Look - 4)

[personal profile] monstermama 2021-02-08 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
She looked around the place, then back at Cayde. "Are you saying you own this place?" Odd that an android had considered opening a bar that seemed to be aimed at other organisms. He'd mentioned downtime, and she supposed that made sense, but then, she was still getting her balance here- and in general. What to do when you weren't being held by scientists and facing imminent death?
deal_me_in: (So everything is gone)

[personal profile] deal_me_in 2021-02-08 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
Again that look of amusement reappeared in the slightest tweaks of the metal plates that made up his face. "As much as anyone can own anything around here, but yeah," Cayde said. "Scoped the place out, cleaned it up, scavenged the fixin's. Bartered for most of the beverage selection while we were off-world since it seemed like a rare opportunity."
monstermama: (Look - 7)

[personal profile] monstermama 2021-02-08 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
She noticed the changes, the fact that for a face that was constructed of metal and plating, it seemed to emote rather well. "Seems to be that scavenging is the way of things around here. Is there any way to know what's already been laid claim to, other than the obvious," she said, gesturing around her. A place that was put together like the bar and being used seemed to be obvious to her, but if people had ways of marking or claiming what they found or storing caches, she didn't want to get off on the wrong foot by touching someone else's hoard.
deal_me_in: (Then I shot that guy)

[personal profile] deal_me_in 2021-02-08 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
"Indeed it is. I'm sure the differences between places that are laid claim of and those that haven't been will be pretty obvious." Cayde offered a shrug, having not seen very many places that were particularly claimed outside of a building here and there. The city was expansive when you had only so many people in it.
monstermama: (Look - Considering 1)

[personal profile] monstermama 2021-02-08 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
She tipped back the last of the drink, setting the glass back on the counter. "What about barter? Currency? Credits? How does someone new here start to establish a foothold?" If he was willing to answer, she'd do best to listen. She was here now. No changing that. So she'd adapt to her surroundings. It's what her kind did, after all. Both sides of herself.
deal_me_in: (We were in a meeting about something)

[personal profile] deal_me_in 2021-02-09 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
Leaning casually against the counter, Cayde nodded.

"Bartering is about the easiest thing to do around here, and the most acceptable. No one really keeps track, but it's basically a 'you scratch my back, I scratch yours' kinda deal. We're all in the same situation, all jumping through the same hoops. If you got particularly skills to bring to the table, then that's a good place to start by way of offering as well."
monstermama: (Look - Down 1)

[personal profile] monstermama 2021-02-09 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
No credits. No currency. Barter was doable, but she wasn't sure that her skills were applicable as trade here. Killing and piloting were rather limited areas of expertise. She looked down at the glass, then back up at Cayde. "So how do you barter for drinks? Or am I going to owe you something...?" She doubted it would be what a human (or other) male would ask for, so she was willing to hear it.
deal_me_in: (Worse case - you die)

[personal profile] deal_me_in 2021-02-09 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
"Look, I'm not here to run a business, I made this here place to give people a spot to just take a load off and hang out with others if they want. So seein' as how it's a place for everyone, if you find something drinkable to share or come up with suggestions for making it more fun or comfortable, that's as good as any sort of favor or payment."

And in some odd way, Cayde found running a bar, even if it was just an on and off thing, kind of refreshing. It certainly wasn't his usual calling, but it was entertaining in its own way.

"-or if you find something that needs shooting and you need the extra gun, that's something I'm always up for jumping in on too," he added with a grin.
monstermama: (Smile - Down 1)

[personal profile] monstermama 2021-02-09 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
"That's rather altruistic of you." Not that she doubted it. There wasn't much going on here. A bar was a good way to offer a place to congregate, to see who was still alive and who might be looking for trouble. A good place to meet up, to hang out. And if one was inclined to people-watch, it was a good way to lure them in without having to go looking for them.

The offer of needing an extra gun had her smile widening. Good to know that whatever programming he had, it wasn't with a weak stomach in mind. "That happen a lot here?"
deal_me_in: (That's good right?)

[personal profile] deal_me_in 2021-02-09 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
It all worked out in his favor, definitely. Cayde was used to people coming to him anyway, back home. The difference here was that he didn't have to stick around in one place if he had other things to do.

"The possibility's there," he admitted. "Not as often as I'd like, but then again I'm sure that after the nightly rush of giant spiders a couple weeks ago, I think people have had their fill of fighting things off for the time being. Me, I'm a Hunter. Quiet's nice and all but it doesn't feel quite right if there's not something that happens now and then."
monstermama: (Smile - 4)

[personal profile] monstermama 2021-02-09 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
"Giant spiders?" She tried to picture that, and it wasn't too hard. Not with what she already knew was out there. What could be if the xenos got a chance to crossbreed. Now she was just picturing giant xeno-arachnids, and that was mildly terrifying.

"Seems this place has a need for people with stronger stomachs and who don't mind getting dirty." It gave her an inkling of where she could fit in. She didn't need a weapon, but she supposed she could find something to piece together while she was here.
