Welcome to the Current Test Drive for The Revival Project!

This game is a spin-off from the closed The Drift Fleet game. For more information about the game, including more details on the setting, please check out the FAQ here or the premise here.

A thread on the TDM will be required for all applications. Please view the FAQ for information about how this works. Any questions about the game please direct to the comment section of the FAQ as well.

If you are a Drift Fleet alumni bringing your character from the game, please label your character as 'DFAU' on your top level. Also, keep in mind you have complete flexibility on how your character comes here. They could be taken before endgame, after endgame, two years after, one year before, etc. It's up to you! If you want to completely restart your character, they're not considered DFAU anymore and won't need the label.

Explore the city!

Here's a map and a bit more description of some of the buildings here.

Most of the buildings are run down and have clearly been abandoned for years; fortunately, the water treatment center appears to be working, but power is intermittent and unreliable. What used to be stores or places to live in lies in ruins, but there may still be something to scavenge among the rubble. Do you want to risk a swim in the flooded area that has turned into a deep lake that has yet to be fully explored; or does it draw you to some of the more prominent and partially restored buildings, such as the hotel, the hospital or the amphitheater.

If you are lucky, you might even stumble over The Deep End, the bar located on one of the mid-levels of the tower residences in one of the residence towers. Unfortunately no bright neon signs can lead you there, but it does exist.

Visit the spaceships!

That's right, there are currently several small spaceships grounded in the hangar - Or what remains of them. It's painfully obvious that these ships have crash-landed not too long ago and were taken back to the hangar for repairs. You were assigned to one of them and its doors will open for you and let you enter if you wish. (For test drive purposes, the ship that will let you enter is up to you, so just pick whichever name appeals, and go for it!) The other ships won't open for you, but as neither of them look as if they will be leaving anytime soon that doesn't really matter either way.

Maybe look around anyway. Or try your hand at some repairs?

Try the network!

Upon arrival, your character will have on their person a small, handheld communications device. Maybe they know exactly how to use a computer, smartphone, or tablet, and immediately blast out a text or video trying to figure out what's going on. Or maybe they're not so tech-savvy after all, and everyone is about to get a lovely shot right up your character's left nostril.

There be storms...

These power-altering storms keep ravaging parts of the planet every once in a while. No one truly knows where they come from or what to do about them yet, but one of them appears to be approaching. You have the option to find shelter in one of the buildings to wait for it to pass. Unless, of course, you rather feel drawn to investigate.

Should you step inside the storm, or even get lost in it, it will show ghosts of people you know and those you don't. It drains you of any super-human abilities and tries its best to keep you from getting to its origin. Are you going to try anyways? Or are you going to chase the whispers of people from your past? Maybe you will simply find yourself calling for help or stumble across another lost soul in need of assistance.

Wildcard!

You're welcome to use any previous test drive scenarios or previous game events as a basis for a thread/situation, or simply make up your own! Keep in mind that you're currently stranded on a planet with only basic necessities, but there is enough food and fresh water. Creature comforts, however, seem to be distinctly lacking. Quite unlike a gathering of potentially dangerous creatures to encounter. The setting is yours to explore and have fun with!

"Socialist planet," Kyle mutters, smirking. "Well. That's kinda cool." He looks up at her again. "So there's food, shelter, water, and spaceships. That's not so bad at all, really!"

Ah yes, there's the eternal optimism.

It is... possible he's receiving an incomplete picture here. Lauri-Ell frowns and considers the young man.

"There are dangers as well. Just recently we were attacked by what only could be called a horde of wolf-sized spiders."

They were angry because of a noise that had now stopped.

That stops him in his tracks.

"...wolf-sized spiders," he repeats. He looks suitably horrified by the idea. "Uhm. Okay. Well. But... we have weapons, right? You said you can use them all."

"Yes, there are weapons here. I brought one myself, of course. Where I go, the Universal Weapon goes too," Lauri-Ell explains with a smile as she keeps them moving. "You will be safe."

"Well, if I'm around you, sure." He's not sure about his chances otherwise.

"What's a universal weapon?"

Ah, that's a good question.

"The weapon of the Kree Accuser Corp," she explained with a smile. "A large weapon that looks like a hammer on a long staff. It can compel truth, study the genetics of an individual, chain them, create force fields, generate energy blasts, and even allow me to fly. Though the latter most does not work here."

"Dude." Oh yes, he's suitably impressed. "The genetics? That's so fucking useful! Oh, and just hitting people with it is pretty sweet, too. And flying? Dude. Sucks that's the one that's not reliable."

"It was a needful tool. It allowed us to tell the difference between our people, those we ruled, and Skrull," Lauri-Ell explained. Until they had come up with new ways of hiding themselves, so it could be fooled.

At least he's impressed by it all.

"You are a strange and excitable human. You should meet Stark. He likes strange and excitable."

"What's a Skrull?" Just pour all that alien knowledge on him, Lauri-Ell.

"Am I strange?"

"Skrull are..."

She needs to breathe and pauses to consider it.

"They are shapeshifters that my people have been at war against for millennia. But we are united now. And yes, you are in my experience, odd."

"Oh shit, no wonder you need to have something that scans genetics!"

Because shapeshifters.

"Oh. I guess maybe I am."

Yes, shapeshifters. He was correct in his conclusion. Lauri-Ell appreciated the wise comment and smiled, guiding him forward and nudging him more toward the diner. He should eat.

"That is not a bad thing. Humans have a great variation in behavior from what I have seen."

He's easy to herd, at least.

"Oh, well. That's not so bad. I thought maybe you meant it was off-putting."

And he will no doubt be easy to feed.

"No. Many humans I have met are very interesting and very different from other humans. Kree are not like that."

"How so? You're not like... a hive mind, are you?" Because he's seen Star Trek, thank you very much.

"What?" Lauri-Ell asks, shocked. Then quickly shakes her head. "No. But we have been at war. War leads to... conformity."

That is her opinion at least.

"Just checking, you never know."

He has to mull that statement over a little as they walk. "Yeah," he agrees finally. "It has to, to some degree, really, to get people to function as a unit. Is it weird being here, then? Since you're the only soldier of your kind."

Fair enough.

"No, it is a relief," Lauri-Ell admits. "I was engineered to be a perfect soldier. But I hate violence."

She liked flowers, and little beasts to pet, and nice scents.

"Whoa, hold up, engineered?" He looks up at her with wide eyes. "Dude! Like, I get that it was probably a pretty desperate time, but... that's a total violation of free will. That's horrible."

"Genetic engineering is very common in the Kree people," Lauri-Ell dismisses. This is normal. Don't be silly.

"Many soldiers of my caliber have never known their genetic origins. My 'mother' was dead before I was created. But I have met my half-sister."

It's fine, Kyle. It's fine.

He stops walking entirely and looks at her, horrified.

"...I'm so sorry. Uhm. Is your sister cool, at least?"

He's asked a good question. Lauri-Ell grins widely at it.

"Oh yes. Carol is very wonderful. She taught me about pizza and Real Housewives!" she agreed, grinning widely. "She helped me find a way to serve the Emperor."

"Is she younger?" Kyle asks, walking again. Lauri-Ell really does have a lovely smile. "Also pizza is kinda the best."

"Older," Lauri-Ell corrects as she turns them down a street toward the diner. "She knew our mother. Was raised on Earth. She is half-human."

Pizza is the best. They don't have it here. She is sad about that.

"Is she blue, like you?"

Kyle's only been here like a day and he already misses pizza, too.

"Family can be really cool."
