AC Results and Important State of Game Announcements
The June Activity Check is completed. And we would like to thank everyone for continuing to make The Revival Project such a great place to play. If anyone is interested in this month’s ‘thank you for a great AC’ gift from Mod Churby, please check the comments below. This month every character has been given a randomly generated ‘candle scent’ of one thing associated with the character, and one thing from a random generator.
Now onto the Announcements! The first one will affect ALL PLAYERS going forth, and we will post reminders about this in the future. The second affects Star Wars canon for current and future players.
AC Process Change Starting August
As our game grows in terms of player and character count, it becomes more and more important for both our players and mods to have streamlined processes where we can create them. One of these processes that will be receiving an update to them will be our Activity Check. Currently our method of AC check in requires players to be available during a window of time that might not be convenient to them, and can also be problematic for the mods if something comes up unexpectedly in our lives. So starting with the August AC Cycle, we will be instituting a new method of doing AC.
Instead of a monthly post where players check in, the mod team has created a permanent home for Activity Checks. This will be a post pinned to the top of our OOC community, and organized more or less alphabetically. Each player will have a comment for them to use to post their AC for all of their characters, and to help you jump to your name quickly there will even be links to each letter available at the top of the page.
AC may be posted at any time of a calendar month, allowing people to clear themselves early if they might not be present. Or, if someone is going on hiatus, to post a link to their hiatus comment once it’s approved to cover them for that month. This new process will allow mods to better monitor AC if something comes up on our end, and let players work in their own schedule. That said, all AC going forth will be due by the fifth of the following month. So August’s AC will be due no later than 11:59 PM Pacific Time on September 5th. We feel this balance of being able to post AC at your own pace and the earlier ‘due date’ will suit everyone, but it can be pushed back to the 7th per current rules if this is found to be difficult.
We do understand that sometimes AC structures like this in other games can lead to people forgetting whether or not they have already turned in AC, so we will still be posting reminders here in the OOC community, Discord, and Plurk throughout the month. Expect one in roughly the third week of the month and of course on the first day of the last month to let you know who needs to get AC in and has not yet done so. All strikes will also be publicly posted on this page, though reminders will be included in all AC announcements.
Do expect when we move to this method that you will still get a comment telling you that your AC was processed. And, if this move really does help streamline the process, expect more of our AC Mod’s antics of some cute little add on gift whenever AC has been fully completed. This can even come early in the month if everyone turns in AC early!
Also, Mod Churby has offered to make available a copyable Google Docs Spreadsheet that players can use to auto-track and count their number of tags on any thread that isn't locked behind an age restriction. This will be shared as part of the new AC page, and she will be available to help trouble shoot some portions of it. The doc will include a journal entry explaining how to make use of this spreadsheet for anyone who wishes to do so, as well as give you a venue to leave a comment if you need help. We know this isn't for everyone, but it might interest some players, and she has offered to make herself available in this way to our player base.
As a note: July’s AC will still be performed as the monthly post and reply as we’ve been doing. The new AC post will be opened for use starting August 8th.
Star Wars Canons Merged and Approaching Cast Cap
Those of you who have for one reason or another popped in to look at our Taken Page may have noticed a new and important change that has occurred. Current Star Wars characters have been brought together into a single canon heading. Our players may remember a recent announcement that noted that as part of tag simplification and cleaning, Star Wars characters were all coming to have a similar tag structure. This is why.
As has been noted in the FAQ since the game began, the mods of TRP recognize that sometimes canon lines are hard to draw with different IPs. The example we have classically used is Final Fantasy (where most games are in very different timelines without overlapping stories) versus something like Marvel or DC (where there might be different movies but they figure into one timeline whereas the timeline and experiences are very different in comics). In the FAQ we acknowledged that sometimes things get complicated and there might be situations where we would revisit this question to better handle our player base.
For the last several months the mods have been discussing the Star Wars canon and noted that at least within our current player base there is a single overarching story/timeline/series covered by all the characters. In fact, every single current Star Wars character has not only been alive in the period of time affected by Palpatine, but in the lifetime of one singular canon of Palpatine. We have ultimately decided that these characters, part of the current Disney Canon timeline, shall share a single overarching canon tag of Star Wars. This in turn means that this single canon has now reached ten out of fifteen on our cast cap.
This is not to say that the canon will always be only 15 characters. Cast caps exist so that one canon does not come to completely dominate over all others. As TRP grows we will be happy as mods to revisit the current cast cap numbers and expand it if we feel we have reached a reasonable point to do so. None of us in this moment know how big TRP can or will be, but we want to make sure we’re attracting an excited, engaged, and varied player base, and cast caps are a way we feel we can help do this.
It is also important to note that this is not to say that we will reject characters from other Star Wars canons. At the moment we do understand that the KOTOR/SWOTOR/Etc game line is so far removed from current Star Wars canon as to reasonably be considered its own potential series header. We also recognize that what is currently branded as the ‘Legends’ timeline (formerly known as the Extended Universe) lives in its own series of canon events and stories, and could potentially be seen as another separate canon. Characters that could fall under these headings will be considered such (just as we would consider the DC movies to be separate from DC Comics and that different from Lego Batman Movies), and we will encourage players interested in playing from them to reach out to our Mod Team to discuss these characters if they arise so we can properly address their canon so they can feel confident before applying that they will have a home here.
We thank you for your understanding and look forward to all our Star Wars cast brings to us, now and in the future.
