TEST DRIVE
Application FAQ | Taken Characters | Reserves | Application

Welcome to the Current Test Drive for The Revival Project!

This game is a spin-off from the closed The Drift Fleet game. For more information about the game, including more details on the setting, please check out the FAQ here or the premise here.

A thread on the TDM will be required for all applications. Please view the FAQ for information about how this works. Any questions about the game please direct to the comment section of the FAQ as well.

If you are a Drift Fleet alumni bringing your character from the game, please label your character as 'DFAU' on your top level. Also, keep in mind you have complete flexibility on how your character comes here. They could be taken before endgame, after endgame, two years after, one year before, etc. It's up to you! If you want to completely restart your character, they're not considered DFAU anymore and won't need the label.

So go! Explore Agra 10! And, as always, HAVE FUN!

Thread ideas:

- Explore the city! There's a map here and a bit more description of some of the buildings here. Most of the buildings are run down and have clearly been abandoned for years; fortunately, the water treatment center appears to be working, but power is intermittent and unreliable. The hotel seems to be the most crowded, but you might want into what appears to be an abandoned storefront and find someone else scavenging or even sleeping.

- There are spaceships! That's right, there are currently several small spaceships grounded in the hangar. They appear to have power, but only one ship will let you enter. (For test drive purposes, the ship that will let you enter is up to you, so just pick whichever name appeals, and go for it!) The other ships won't open for you, but it might be worth poking around the one that will...

- Is that a chill in the air? It seems to be getting just a little colder, day by day... or maybe it's your imagination? But just in case it's not, you might want to thinking about prepping for what could be winter. Does that mean gathering plants to dry for food? Stockpiling water, or trying to get the power to stay steady in the buildings so you won't freeze (does it even get down to freezing, here - who knows!)? It's up to you!

- Can you hear me now? Upon arrival, your character will have on their person a small, handheld communications device. Maybe they know exactly how to use a computer, smartphone, or tablet, and immediately blast out a text or video trying to figure out what's going on. Or maybe they're not so tech-savvy after all, and everyone is about to get a lovely shot right up your character's left nostril.

- Wildcard! You're welcome to use any previous test drive scenarios or previous game events as a basis for a thread/situation, or simply make up your own! Keep in mind that you're currently stranded on a planet with only basic necessities, but there is enough food and fresh water. Creature comforts, however, seem to be distinctly lacking...

"Right? Usually, I can't go more than ten steps without something coming up and trying to stick me," There's a thoughtful pause, "...Usually more than one. Actually, I can count the friendly faces I've seen on my fingers, there's so few."

Come to think of it, even they were more or less trying to kill her, those that hadn't simply vanished. For a moment, Evangeline stops walking, staring blankly at the inside of her helm, lost in thought...

And then she shakes herself, a noisy, clanking sort of thing.

"...Well, nevermind that! Yesterday's a foreign country, right? Right. Chin up and keep moving forewards, that's the way."

It's rude, in her culture, to stare at people. Particularly, it's rude to stare with wide eyes, slack-jawed, not just looking, but neglecting even to blink.

Shirt? She has no idea what he was talking about, but. Holy shit, he just shed his skin?

Quintet gives herself another hard shake, then gets up to trot over and sniff at Bucky's shirt. No, it might smell a lot like him, but this was no shed. It was some kind of... fiber. Like a mantle? Advanced stuff, more finely worked than anything Quintet had heard about, let alone actually seen. Completely ignoring Bucky, she sat down and pawed at it thoughtfully, testing the stretch, the strength. Sure, it was soaked with water and clinging to itself and the floor, but...

"Geez, guy. Where are you even from?"

"That only happens with me if I run into Imperial territory," Cal says dryly, lips quirking however humorlessly. "Which turns out to be a lot of places because the Empire's grabby like that."

It's easy to tell when Evangeline stops, otherwise he might have collided with her if he weren't paying attention. The padawan tilts his head as he comes up beside her, BD-1 mirroring his gesture behind him. When she suddenly shakes herself out he steps back, hands lifting as he gives her space.

"...right. Keep moving." He nods, waiting for her to start again before falling in step alongside of her. "It's kind of the same with me. The...friend thing." Maybe not with the attachments of them trying to kill him, but he has too far and few of them, and those only made recently.

"So what's this prophecy you were talking about earlier?"

[personal profile] tiedonastring 2020-01-18 01:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Right....

Since my arrival, I've made it my focus to help restore the Power Plant. A bunch of us managed to get it running, but it's still not fully operational. We got it so that way the community at least has working power. Granted the technology here is foreign so it's taking a while to learn how to process everything.

I suppose....if you need anything fixed I will take my time to fix it as a way to help support our temporary truce.

Certainly. It'll take a bit to download, but it covers just about anything we could find. If you wish to communicate with the Agri there's a box where you can leave a various request. They'll try and help you out to best of their knowledge. It might take a while for them to respond and often they like for everyone to share.

[He attached the file as well. He tried to make the notes easy to read. There were also a few rough maps and images as well of various landmarks.]

Dude already hit on the answer, and Tommy wants to laugh. Way to be smart Teddy.

"Yeah, exactly. It can be weird. So you can't, like, assume people will know you. But like, their world doesn't have mutants."

So Tommy had been sorta stupid to assume THIS Teddy was his Teddy.

"Oh, that?" She cleared her throat performatively, and then lowered her tone so that in the hollow of her helm it nearly echoed, "Thou who art Undead, art chosen. In thine exodus from the Undead Asylum, maketh pilgrimage to the land of Ancient Lords. When thou ringeth the Bell of Awakening, the fate of the Undead thou shalt know."

It had a nice sound to it, she thought. There is, as they walk together, something of a self-satisfied little pause, when the pronouncement is done.

"That's an old saying, from Astora; I think I might be from there. Actually, there are two bells, so it isn't completely accurate, but then that's poetry for you."

It's a nice touch, the echo. It definitely lends to the probably ancient words that Evangeline intones. Cal arches a brow as he listens, and once Eva speaks again to follow up, he nods.

"Well, prophecies aren't really known for being word-for-word accurate so far as I figure," he smiles. "So what happens when this bell is rung? Is it a literal thing you have to do?"

Undead from wherever Evangeline was from seem much more agreeable than the ones he'd encountered on Dathomir, if she's anything to gauge by.

"Oh no, you have to ring them both," She replies, in the manner of someone correcting a minor spelling error, and nothing more, "Ringing just one didn't do anything at all! Of course, there's nothing else for it but to go ring the other one, after that. And you have to fight the guards."

There is a pause.

"...And quite a lot of other things, as well. But what's a giant or two, between here and there? Just another step along the way, right? Right. And anyhow, I can't blame them for coming for me, I did disturb their home, even if they are....gigantic flaming spider-women. Fair's fair."

Well, at least she doesn't seem offended when he strips his shirt off - honestly, she seems more baffled than anything. "Uh - Earth?" he offers, which he figures he should follow up with, "We have cats there, like you. But - they don't talk. For what it's worth."

Which might be nothing if she's never heard of the place. All he knows is, "Whoever brought us here, they pulls us from everywhere. All across the universe. And - across multiple universes. Which is just as weird as it sounds."

"What, let me guess," She interrupts, "They just do stuff like this."

She demonstrated, the semiphoric lash of the tail, a trilling subvocalization, barely audible to human ears, but within easy conversational volume by Quintet's standards. Common was a purely vocal language, composed of verbal elements that fell within the widest possible common denominator of physical capabilities for all races. The feline dialect Quintet had grown up with was much different, and certainly not mutually-intelligible. What she had said with it, could not be translated directly, but it behooves a species of social divas to employ a wide and varied lexicon of curse words.

"I don't know what you mean by universe, but you're definitely from out on the fringes if they don't even speak the common lingua there. Except for you, I mean."

He tries not to get his hopes up when she questions his code name. There's definitely recognition there, for the Hulk anyways. But it's a large multi-verse and if she doesn't recognize 'Hulkling' then it's more likely that she's not from his world. But he follows her down onto the hotel's rooftop and, after a moment, shifts to his normal human form. From tall, large, and green to slightly shorter, broad shouldered, white teenager sans the wings.

"I guess you could say I'm a fan. Of all the Avengers really. When my friends and I started our team, the Young Avengers, we all picked an Avenger to kind of...inspire us." AKA basically ripping off their hero personas. "We were going for the whole 'next generation' thing."
hulkintraining: (more side view)

[personal profile] hulkintraining 2020-01-19 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
He can barely hold back the wince at the mention of the 'Mother'. It's already been a year since their final battle with her, but he hasn't quite gotten over everything that had happened. He doesn't blame Billy for any of it, especially knowing that Loki had been pulling the strings the whole time. But it doesn't make the confusion and hurt he'd felt during that time any better. Or the things 'Mother' had done to him.

"A power dampener, huh? If only we know whether it was some technology or a being. But if one of the Agrii have the kind of power to block your powers..." He doesn't really need to finish that statement.

"So they have the power to bring us and keep us here, but not enough to restore this place themselves. What are we even supposed to do here?"
hulkintraining: (voice of reason)

[personal profile] hulkintraining 2020-01-19 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
"Tommy...I've met about a dozen different versions of myself alone. That's not counting the several versions of Billy, and Kate, and yous that I've run into or fought. It's weird but nothing I can't handle."

He's silent for a moment as he processes that bit about no mutants.

"As in mutants have never existed in their world or Wanda went all 'no more Mutants'?"

Potentially touchy subject but it's important that he has these specifics.
doubled_speed: (Do I Look Amused?)

"Former. I have to keep explaining what the fuck we are," Tommy shrugs. "Also, we've got a general rule here."

Tommy steps closer and pokes his finger into Teddy's chest. Tommy is protective of only one thing more than he is his team. His family.

"No one tells this Wanda about that shit. Ever. Got it?"
hulkintraining: (now wait a minute)

[personal profile] hulkintraining 2020-01-19 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
Well, that's a relief then. Kind of. Better they don't exist at all rather then be poofed out of existence. Teddy has seen the aftermath of that kind of thing and he would rather it didn't happen again in any universe.

He raises his hands up before his chest in surrender as Tommy steps up to him.

"Yep. I understand completely. So...there is another Wanda here? What's she like?"
doubled_speed: (Default)

[personal profile] doubled_speed 2020-01-19 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
"She's... different," Tommy says, but he doesn't know how to put it beyond that. The whole thing has been a bit of a mess. And he wishes it wasn't. He wishes he knew how to handle his other-mother. "She's kind. And I'd really rather not talk about it because life is fucking complicated enough back home."
out_of_order: (wuh-oh)

[personal profile] out_of_order 2020-01-19 06:10 am (UTC)(link)
"Kind of reminds me of Zeffo..." Cal murmurs to BD-1. "Giants?" He looks at Evangeline again, thinking of the ancient guardians in the old tomb they'd had to navigate.

Clarification has him stumble to a halt as he wonders if he'd heard right. "What?" Flaming...spider-women...? He's dealt with flaming things and spider beasts, and a difficult witch who summoned her undead sisters, but never everything at once. That's something he supposes he should be thankful of.

"So you've done it then? Ring the bells?"
stillgotmyleftarm: (Default)

[personal profile] stillgotmyleftarm 2020-01-20 02:47 pm (UTC)(link)

"Uh. Sort of?"

The sound she makes isn't quite a meow; but then, Bucky hasn't actually spent much time around cats. Dogs, sure, but even then, mostly just the working Army dogs during the war.

At least the second question he can answer... sort of. "I mean that... I'm here, right? And there are people I know here, from back home. But they're from a different back home, with a different me, where different things happened." Actually: "Case in point, there's two of me here. Except the other me is older, has a metal arm, and goes by 'Winter.'"

Yeah, it's exactly as weird as it sounds.

"So I guess it's not weird that you're a cat from a place where cats talk, and I've got cats where I come from, only they don't talk."

Hopefully some of that made sense.

A slow, pleased smile spreads across her face, hearing that her team have been the kind of inspiration the world needs, but after he changes shape, her expression changes to one of curiosity. "When are you from?" she asks, figuring that in their line of work, that's not such an unusual question.

"Oh, that. Of course! Not that seemed to do much, actually," She said, then abruptly broke into a clattering trot. The street they were walking along crossed another, and rather than simply walk into the intersection, she was moving towards the actual corner itself.

It's surely not normal for a person in head-to-toe armor to peek so cautiously around like that, interrogating each blind spot with care.

"...I was pretty upset at the time. But that's sort of the worst thing I could've done, so I went exploring and found out that there was this huge gate that'd been opened for some reason while I was away. So, that's the moral, I guess; even if you don't know what's happening, just keep going and it all works out, in the end!"

"Yeah," Carol confirms, nodding. "You touch the orbs, a whole class gets downloaded into your brain. I'm trying to figure out how to fly these things without getting my head messed with." She pokes at a few more controls, but they remain inert - no glowing, no movement, no indication that the ship is actually capable of flight at all. "Problem is, they're not like any ship I've seen before. And I've seen a lot of ships."

"Well, that makes two of us."

Leia watches Carol fiddle with the controls, considers doing the same herself but doubts the results would be any different

"Are you a pilot? Or---were you, wherever you were before you ended up here?"

Thank you again, Lieutenant---and speaking of the Agrii, what are they like? Friendly? Hostile?
