Test Drive Meme!

TEST DRIVE
Application FAQ | Taken Characters | Reserves | Application

Welcome to the Current Test Drive for The Revival Project!

This game is a spin-off from the closed The Drift Fleet game. For more information about the game, including more details on the setting, please check out the FAQ here or the premise here.

A thread on the TDM will be required for all applications. Please view the FAQ for information about how this works. Any questions about the game please direct to the comment section of the FAQ as well.

If you are a Drift Fleet alumni bringing your character from the game, please label your character as 'DFAU' on your top level. Also, keep in mind you have complete flexibility on how your character comes here. They could be taken before endgame, after endgame, two years after, one year before, etc. It's up to you! If you want to completely restart your character, they're not considered DFAU anymore and won't need the label.

So go! Explore Agra 10! And, as always, HAVE FUN!

Thread ideas:

- Explore the city! There's a map here and a bit more description of some of the buildings here. Most of the buildings are run down and have clearly been abandoned for years; fortunately, the water treatment center appears to be working, but power is intermittent and unreliable. The hotel seems to be the most crowded, but you might want into what appears to be an abandoned storefront and find someone else scavenging or even sleeping.

- There are spaceships! That's right, there are currently several small spaceships grounded in the hangar. They appear to have power, but only one ship will let you enter. (For test drive purposes, the ship that will let you enter is up to you, so just pick whichever name appeals, and go for it!) The other ships won't open for you, but it might be worth poking around the one that will...

- Is that a chill in the air? It seems to be getting just a little colder, day by day... or maybe it's your imagination? But just in case it's not, you might want to thinking about prepping for what could be winter. Does that mean gathering plants to dry for food? Stockpiling water, or trying to get the power to stay steady in the buildings so you won't freeze (does it even get down to freezing, here - who knows!)? It's up to you!

- Can you hear me now? Upon arrival, your character will have on their person a small, handheld communications device. Maybe they know exactly how to use a computer, smartphone, or tablet, and immediately blast out a text or video trying to figure out what's going on. Or maybe they're not so tech-savvy after all, and everyone is about to get a lovely shot right up your character's left nostril.

- Wildcard! You're welcome to use any previous test drive scenarios or previous game events as a basis for a thread/situation, or simply make up your own! Keep in mind that you're currently stranded on a planet with only basic necessities, but there is enough food and fresh water. Creature comforts, however, seem to be distinctly lacking...

Well, at least she doesn't seem offended when he strips his shirt off - honestly, she seems more baffled than anything. "Uh - Earth?" he offers, which he figures he should follow up with, "We have cats there, like you. But - they don't talk. For what it's worth."

Which might be nothing if she's never heard of the place. All he knows is, "Whoever brought us here, they pulls us from everywhere. All across the universe. And - across multiple universes. Which is just as weird as it sounds."

"What, let me guess," She interrupts, "They just do stuff like this."

She demonstrated, the semiphoric lash of the tail, a trilling subvocalization, barely audible to human ears, but within easy conversational volume by Quintet's standards. Common was a purely vocal language, composed of verbal elements that fell within the widest possible common denominator of physical capabilities for all races. The feline dialect Quintet had grown up with was much different, and certainly not mutually-intelligible. What she had said with it, could not be translated directly, but it behooves a species of social divas to employ a wide and varied lexicon of curse words.

"I don't know what you mean by universe, but you're definitely from out on the fringes if they don't even speak the common lingua there. Except for you, I mean."

"Uh. Sort of?"

The sound she makes isn't quite a meow; but then, Bucky hasn't actually spent much time around cats. Dogs, sure, but even then, mostly just the working Army dogs during the war.

At least the second question he can answer... sort of. "I mean that... I'm here, right? And there are people I know here, from back home. But they're from a different back home, with a different me, where different things happened." Actually: "Case in point, there's two of me here. Except the other me is older, has a metal arm, and goes by 'Winter.'"

Yeah, it's exactly as weird as it sounds.

"So I guess it's not weird that you're a cat from a place where cats talk, and I've got cats where I come from, only they don't talk."

Hopefully some of that made sense.

To her credit, she does listen, though after a few words, she's mostly just trying to keep meaning strung together from one word to the next. A different back home? What does that even mean?

"I followed maybe... ten percent of that," Quintet replies, with slow, deadpan confusion. What had she gotten into, here? And did this guy just not have the concept of different languages, or was she going crazy?

Possibly both.

"Anyways, thank you for getting me out of that... thing, whatever it was," she turned and went back to her washing for a few strokes, her back to Bucky's own ablutions, "If you ever need help, I'm... technically part of the Rationale. So. I'm sure I could lend you some time. Clear the ledger, right?"

Bucky grimaces. "Yeah, it's... hard to explain." He's not a scientist; but then, maybe that's for the better? A scientist might be even worse at explaining it, given the scientists he's known.

He blows out a breath. "I guess, suffice it to say, we definitely come from different places around here." There. That's... definitely right, at least.

He does smile a little, though, when she thanks him. "Hey. Don't mention it. Sorry you got stuck in there. And - well, if you ever need help again, you just gotta ask. If there isn't fire-retardant foam in your mouth."

He doesn't know what the Rationale is, but he can guess it's clearly a group that does some kind of good. "You don't have to think you owe me. If you're stuck here, too... well. We might run into each other a lot. Maybe you'll even find someone else from your Rationale, but I don't know what it is, so probably no one from my world."
