Welcome to the first Test Drive for The Revival Project!

For those who do not know, this game is a spin-off from The Drift Fleet game, which is shortly closing. For more information about what this game is about, please check out the FAQ here or the premise here.

The TDM for the first round of applications is NOT required but is highly recommended. Really this is to see the interest level in the game as well as to have everyone interact on the new planet and with the new experiences offered here. There will be a post in the TDM where questions can be asked regarding the prompts/settings. We're keeping this loose though so go ahead and have fun with it. Any questions about the game please direct to the comment section of the FAQ.

If you are a Drift Fleet alumni, please label your character as 'DFAU' on your top level so we know. Also, keep in mind you have complete flexibility on how your character comes here. They could be taken before endgame, after endgame, two years after, one year before, etc. It's up to you! The only option not allowed is to completely restart your character (because then it's not DFAU, is it?)

WHALE COMB PARTY

In the square near your arrival point, one building seems to be in fairly good repair. It’s large and stark white on every wall. Unlike the other buildings, all the lights are on and the windows looking out are intact. That alone would make it remarkable but it’s hardly the most noticeable thing once you step inside the open doorway.

Hanging against one wall is a piece of fabric that has ‘WHALE COMB!’ painted on it in drippy, fluorescent pink letters. A smiley is painted underneath it right on the wall with three eyes and long fangs. The fangs drip down all the way to the floor and the eyes are just a blob of paint, but whoever left it seems to have been trying, here. ‘US THANK THEY!’ is written beside it, barely legible. On every other wall is ‘EAT’ in various sizes and colors. They thankfully don’t drip as much as the smiley since, beneath them, are tables upon tables of food.

There are meats, fruits, root vegetables, and even what might be a sweet dessert of some sort as well. Bowls are full of them, apparently a welcome dinner for the Agrii’s new heroes. At the very least it will give everyone a quick crash course on what is edible around here. But some of it might have … adverse effects:

- People chomping down on the striped meat all seem to get very drowsy a few minutes later.
- The red fruit that looks like a giant cherry is the equivalent of a few shots - the more consumed, the more drunken this party is getting.
- There is a bowl of weeds that have small, daisy-like flowers all along the stalks. This tastes like chicken and gives the eater a sudden burst of energy that will have them running around the room like they’re being chased.
-There are a collection of drinks, some made from the red fruit, some that are clearly water, some that taste like a less-sweet lemonade with no effects, and then there's a blue one that tastes like an especially dark beer. People drinking this will find themselves incapable of lying for a half hour.

Of course, no way to know any of this before you chow down. So dig in and enjoy the show!

LOST AND ALONE

They said don’t go into the forest. If the noises there weren’t deterrent enough then the thick trees and lack of paths should have been. Yes, you’ll need food. Yes, both meat and many fruits are in the forest. But maybe you should have gotten some more information before heading in.

Congratulations: you went into the forest and are now lost. You can’t hear the murmurings from town, nor can you see any of the lights that might be flickering on and off in the city. How are you going to get back into town? How do you make sure that the creatures here don’t attack you? You probably don’t have any weapons, so you’d better figure something out quick.

Or, maybe you’ll get lucky and run into another foolish person wandering around out here. Try not to attack them - unless they attack first.

MILES TO GO

The first thing every survivor needs to find is shelter. Not long after your arrival at the fountain, it’s getting darker now and, even if the night is short (you’re about to find out it’s not!), you don’t want to spend your first one out on an unfamiliar street. Distantly you can hear a sound like a wolf howling through an elephant’s trunk. It’s loud and alien. Maybe you want to find somewhere to sleep a little more quickly.

Right away there are two pretty solid options that will do nicely for the night: an abandoned hotel-like structure and some empty stores.

The hotel structure seems to be the most popular option for others. Its large, overgrown lobby leads you to the staircase and over a dozen floors of rooms in varying conditions. Despite it looking as though no one has set foot in here for decades, the stairs and floors all are secure. The rooms that have doors on them open up to dusty rooms that all have a bathroom (of sorts) attached and long, narrow bed frames. Figuring out a mattress will be a challenge but at least this is a safe place to sleep. As long as no animals laid claim to this room before you got in...

But let’s say the room in the hotel doesn’t work for you. Maybe the room is too small for you. Maybe you don’t like the stairs. Maybe you want someplace private to separate yourself from the rest of these strangers and to think quietly about what to do next. Either way, the other option is any number of abandoned stores lining the block where you arrived. The glass doors and windows of many are broken but there are just as many intact as well. The rooms are all large and empty, as whatever wares inside were either taken or dissolved over the years. There may be a counter or two that will get you off the ground, though. With all this space, you’re bound to find something to sleep on.

Unless someone else got there, first...

Oh, you’re Altean then?

[Or was it Atlantan? No, Keith doesn’t have a Georgia accent. Well, alien it is ten which Tommy takes in stride rather easily. Though he does grin at the question.]

If I tell you, can I pet your dog?

[It was Altean, but Keith shook his head anyway.]

No. I've just spent a lot of time with a couple of them recently.

[Keith was slowly starting to relax, though. He was still on edge and visibly ready to react if he had to, but he straightened from his stance so he was standing relatively normally.]

I guess...? [Keith looked down at Kosmo. The wolf pup seemed to have settled a lot faster than his partner, having decided Tommy was more of a curiosity than a threat. His tail was wagging, head cocked to one side in a cute, curious look.] He seems okay with it.

[Yes... Keith was apparently taking the wolf's feelings into consideration here.]

[Well of course Keith was taking Kosmo’s feelings into consideration. Why wouldn’t he? But Tommy does grin and walks back over, at a human pace, to pet the young wolf.]

Name’s Tommy. What about you and him?

I'm Keith... and everyone calls him Kosmo.

[Keith hadn't been a fan of the name, but it had stuck, and the wolf seemed okay with it, so he went along with it.

Kosmo wagged his tail more as Tommy came back over, and then glanced up at Keith for a moment. Keith nodded, and then the pup moved in to accept pets, crouching a bit and wiggling in excitement.]

[Keith? That sure sounds like a human name. Huh, that's got a lot of questions from him. Not that he's asking them right yet. Soon he's too busy scratching behind ears and fluffing up fur to care about it.]

So what kinda dog is this? Never seen a blue one. Earth doesn't have them. Except for the ones that, you know, are blue but that's a term for a gray and all that.

Uh... not really sure. Coran called him a cosmic wolf, so, that's probably it. I found him while my mom and I were stranded on a space whale in a quantum abyss. Something he was in crash landed, and, when we went to investigate, we found him.

[So... normal... what...]

Something about this place, though, made him small. He's actually pretty big already back home, but he's already two years old there. Here, he seems to be back to being a puppy. I'm not sure why.

[He shrugged.]

I never saw anything like him back on my Earth, either. ["My Earth." Keith had been through this dimension/universe/reality hopping before.] We just have shades of white, brown, and black... I've heard 'blue' used, too, but yeah. Same. Just another shade of gray.

[But, yes... Keith was a human name because Keith was human... well, half-human. But he grew up on Earth.]

[Well that sells it, the guy is clearly an alien. Or so Tommy thinks until Keith keeps going. Space? Cosmic wolf? Quantum abyss? Things like that make no sense. Just like the thing getting younger by being here.]

Wait, you're from Earth? Huh, cool. I mean, you sorta look human, but I guess I figured that having a freaky wolf meant that you weren't. How'd you get to space?

[Space isn't something Tommy's as interested in normally. Can't run quickly in space. Enclosed ships going to get you every time.]

Oh... yeah. Born and raised. My dad's human. I take after him a lot like that. But, he said I look a lot like Mom, too. I guess that's kind of hard to see sometimes past the fact that she's like seven feet tall and purple.

[Welp. What even was Keith's life?]

As for getting into space, well... that was something I always wanted to do. I got the chance when I joined the Galaxy Garrison... except I managed to get myself kicked out. [Not his proudest moment, really.] But, I found a strange energy source out in the desert not far from where we were, and tracked it down. A couple other cadets were with me, as well as my mentor in the Garrison, and we found a massive robot lion, and that carried us into space and through a wormhole to a planet called Arus. That's where we met the Alteans, and they helped us find the other four Lions... and we'd been exploring space and fighting off an evil empire in the process for the past... uh... [Give him a second... he had to figure this out. Between the abyss, jumping through wormholes, converting between Earth time and Altean time, and then the time slippage caused by tearing holes in the fabric of reality during a battle, it was hard to remember how long it had been.]

Three years? Four years? Though, everyone not involved with our team says it was seven. We lost time somewhere... though, I technically lost less time because of the whole quantum abyss thing. If I count that, then it's been five for me.

[Confused, yet?]

[Strangely enough, Tommy has literally no problem with the idea of Keith implying his mom is an alien. Gets a bit harder to be phased by that when you've met people who are blue and furry, or when someone who has a dad who is an android, and hose future brother in law is a hybrid of two different alien species.]

Huh, sounds pretty interesting. Strange, but interesting. Honestly, not the most complicated shit I've ever heard of. In fact, it's almost simple. For instance? My soul-mom had me, like, less than a handful of years ago. Except I'm eighteen. Fun, right?

[He does get up and back away a few steps, grinning.]

[Keith stared at Tommy for a second, and then smirked.]

So, you're familiar with the idea of time being all weird, huh?

But, uh... 'soul-mom'?

I mean, yeah, I guess I'm familiar with weirdness of time. One of my friends was a time traveler fated to be the worst time-traveling bad guy in, well, history.

[Explaining Iron Lad v Kang or Immortus was a hard thing. In fact, Tommy just crosses his arms over his chest to consider how to explain it.]

Dude, it might be best to not even try. Let's just say I was reincarnated, into the past, because previous me died and a demon got exploded by my mom's magic. Now, take that headache, multiply it by about thirty, and then consider if you really want to know more.

That must be weird... knowing your own fate like that.

[Keith honestly did consider it.]

What does a demon getting blown up by your mom have to do with you being reincarnated?

[Yeah, that has to be a pain. Should try asking his twin brother, Keith. The one who is fated to be a god. Life is just complicated in their circles.]

Well, magic can make a body, but not a soul. So mom had to get the souls from somewhere. And they just happened to be broken off pieces of said demon's soul.

[Congratulations, Keith, you signed up for this.]

[Complicated was Keith's new normal... not that he'd ever had it simple, but psychic robot lions that combine to make a giant robot fighter controlled by five pilots was pretty complicated.]

And that like... doesn't affect who you are? Like... you know... demon-wise?

[Wow, was Keith implying he was evil? Nah, that would come more from the supervillains in his family. Tommy mostly rolls his shoulders in a dismissive way.]

Nah, not really. I'm a hero, man. And Mom's magic sorta altered our souls.

[Well, having the soul of a demon shoved into one's body certainly wouldn't be a "villain by choice" situation, so Keith wouldn't have blamed him if that had been the case, but... magic purification can work.]

That's good. At least she was able to save you without, you know... side effects? I mean, are there side effects to something like that?

[It sounded like a lot of potential consequences.]

And, does that make you older now? Since you were reincarnated in the past?

[So. Many. Questions.]

[It wasn't just shoved into him. That soul is his now. It is his life. That soul IS Tommy now.]

Oh, uh, well, we did die. And our souls went back. And blew up the demon for a while because they were too pure. And apparently blew themselves into the past. And yeah, older now than I was.

[Billy explains it better.]

[Keith'll get it... eventually...]

Huh...

[He was just going to give himself a second to absorb that.]

And is that why you can like... almost teleport?

[Almost what? Tommy frowns, tilting his head and crossing his arms over his chest. What?]

I'm fast. Not teleporty.

[Welp. Keith's expression flattened for a second.]

Got it.

[Then, he shrugged.]

I have a teleporting wolf. I must have gotten them confused.

The wolf does that? Best dog. Me? I only, yanno, run several times the speed of sound.

[Faster than should be humanly possible. But they've covered that he is weird.]

That's still something. [Keith looked somewhat impressed. He'd seen some pretty interesting abilities in people since leaving Earth, even finding a few of his own through the Lions, so the idea that someone could be that fast wasn't entirely a stretch. He glanced down at the pup for a moment, made a quick small gesture with his hand and then stepped off about ten feet.]

Watch.

[He nodded to Kosmo, who wagged his tail and took a few steps like he was going to run, but then disappeared in a flash of light. Almost instantly, he reappeared by Keith, already mid-leap to be caught. Keith laughed as he stumbled a little from the force of the pup jumping into his arms like that, but he was used to it now.]

See? Teleporting.

[He chuckled.]

I wouldn't try it now while he's a small pup here again, but, back home, when he's bigger, he can teleport people with him as long as you hold on to him.

[The small wolf was clearly proud of himself, wagging his tail fiercely as he licked at Keith's face.]

Interesting... Wonder how I compare with him for speed.

[He outruns his brother, who is a teleporter. So he's genuinely curious.]

[Keith shrugged.]

I haven't timed him.

I mean it is also about how long a teleport takes and how far he goes and how soon he can go again.

[May be fun to race the dog. Really fun. And maybe the dog-wolf would like it too.]
