TEST DRIVE
Application FAQ | Taken Characters | Reserves | Application
Welcome to the first Test Drive for The Revival Project!
For those who do not know, this game is a spin-off from The Drift Fleet game, which is shortly closing. For more information about what this game is about, please check out the FAQ here or the premise here.
The TDM for the first round of applications is NOT required but is highly recommended. Really this is to see the interest level in the game as well as to have everyone interact on the new planet and with the new experiences offered here. There will be a post in the TDM where questions can be asked regarding the prompts/settings. We're keeping this loose though so go ahead and have fun with it. Any questions about the game please direct to the comment section of the FAQ.
If you are a Drift Fleet alumni, please label your character as 'DFAU' on your top level so we know. Also, keep in mind you have complete flexibility on how your character comes here. They could be taken before endgame, after endgame, two years after, one year before, etc. It's up to you! The only option not allowed is to completely restart your character (because then it's not DFAU, is it?)
So go! Explore Agra 10! And, as always, HAVE FUN!

In the square near your arrival point, one building seems to be in fairly good repair. It’s large and stark white on every wall. Unlike the other buildings, all the lights are on and the windows looking out are intact. That alone would make it remarkable but it’s hardly the most noticeable thing once you step inside the open doorway.
Hanging against one wall is a piece of fabric that has ‘WHALE COMB!’ painted on it in drippy, fluorescent pink letters. A smiley is painted underneath it right on the wall with three eyes and long fangs. The fangs drip down all the way to the floor and the eyes are just a blob of paint, but whoever left it seems to have been trying, here. ‘US THANK THEY!’ is written beside it, barely legible. On every other wall is ‘EAT’ in various sizes and colors. They thankfully don’t drip as much as the smiley since, beneath them, are tables upon tables of food.
There are meats, fruits, root vegetables, and even what might be a sweet dessert of some sort as well. Bowls are full of them, apparently a welcome dinner for the Agrii’s new heroes. At the very least it will give everyone a quick crash course on what is edible around here. But some of it might have … adverse effects:
- People chomping down on the striped meat all seem to get very drowsy a few minutes later.
- The red fruit that looks like a giant cherry is the equivalent of a few shots - the more consumed, the more drunken this party is getting.
- There is a bowl of weeds that have small, daisy-like flowers all along the stalks. This tastes like chicken and gives the eater a sudden burst of energy that will have them running around the room like they’re being chased.
-There are a collection of drinks, some made from the red fruit, some that are clearly water, some that taste like a less-sweet lemonade with no effects, and then there's a blue one that tastes like an especially dark beer. People drinking this will find themselves incapable of lying for a half hour.
Of course, no way to know any of this before you chow down. So dig in and enjoy the show!

They said don’t go into the forest. If the noises there weren’t deterrent enough then the thick trees and lack of paths should have been. Yes, you’ll need food. Yes, both meat and many fruits are in the forest. But maybe you should have gotten some more information before heading in.
Congratulations: you went into the forest and are now lost. You can’t hear the murmurings from town, nor can you see any of the lights that might be flickering on and off in the city. How are you going to get back into town? How do you make sure that the creatures here don’t attack you? You probably don’t have any weapons, so you’d better figure something out quick.
Or, maybe you’ll get lucky and run into another foolish person wandering around out here. Try not to attack them - unless they attack first.

The first thing every survivor needs to find is shelter. Not long after your arrival at the fountain, it’s getting darker now and, even if the night is short (you’re about to find out it’s not!), you don’t want to spend your first one out on an unfamiliar street. Distantly you can hear a sound like a wolf howling through an elephant’s trunk. It’s loud and alien. Maybe you want to find somewhere to sleep a little more quickly.
Right away there are two pretty solid options that will do nicely for the night: an abandoned hotel-like structure and some empty stores.
The hotel structure seems to be the most popular option for others. Its large, overgrown lobby leads you to the staircase and over a dozen floors of rooms in varying conditions. Despite it looking as though no one has set foot in here for decades, the stairs and floors all are secure. The rooms that have doors on them open up to dusty rooms that all have a bathroom (of sorts) attached and long, narrow bed frames. Figuring out a mattress will be a challenge but at least this is a safe place to sleep. As long as no animals laid claim to this room before you got in...
But let’s say the room in the hotel doesn’t work for you. Maybe the room is too small for you. Maybe you don’t like the stairs. Maybe you want someplace private to separate yourself from the rest of these strangers and to think quietly about what to do next. Either way, the other option is any number of abandoned stores lining the block where you arrived. The glass doors and windows of many are broken but there are just as many intact as well. The rooms are all large and empty, as whatever wares inside were either taken or dissolved over the years. There may be a counter or two that will get you off the ground, though. With all this space, you’re bound to find something to sleep on.
Unless someone else got there, first...

He holds her close so she can lean on him and presses a light kiss to her temple.]
I detected no contaminants in the water, at least. Perhaps drinking more of that will flush it through your system? We can of course conduct a more thorough test of the foodstuffs later. It should be possible to avoid or counteract anything that is causing you malaise.
no subject
She closes her eyes and nuzzles him again at that kiss.]
But I will have to move to drink water.
[Why yes, she's so out of it it hasn't occurred to her to try to call it to herself yet-- and actually, that's probably a good idea.]
I hope it wasn't one of the things I liked.
no subject
I would offer to get some for you, but I appear to be trapped. [He wiggles the free part of his hand. Oh no, the indignity. Maybe they can ask someone else.]
What did you like, that you've tried? This isn't proper science without documentation, you understand.
no subject
But you two are cute.
[He gets another nuzzle and then a thought finally occurs to her.]
I can get it. [One of her hands stops stroking his back long enough to attempt to direct a cup (clumsily) into the water bowl and then shakily bring it over to them...except it only gets a few feet from the table before it falls. Oops. Wanda immediately buries her face in Vision's chest, murmuring something muffled and inaudible but probably apologies.
This, incidentally, is exactly why Wanda has always tried to avoid having any significant amount of alcohol.]
no subject
There, there, my dear. [He pats her back with one hand and tries, again unsuccessfully, to wiggle his finger out from the dragonet's tail. But wait, there is another solution, and he phases his hand free (to a sleepy protest).]
Wait here just a moment, darling.
[He'll get a proper cup of water this time, wishing he knew for sure which foods were safe so he could grab some of them as well. When he gets back, he puts an arm around her and strokes the dragon's spinal ridge in apology.]
Here we are. What are husbands for, if not to fetch refreshments?
no subject
And fortunately for them both, he's back before Wanda can decide that the floor looks comfortable. She could really go for some bread now, and she can't help but miss her favorite bakery on Naviadna. The tables have many foods, but there's not even a cracker to be found here.
She takes the water and manages a small sip. Wanda may be out of it, but at least she knows to take it slowly.]
You're good at so many things, Vision. Like how you made me scream for you last night.
[And with that, Vision's getting a light nose boop. Because reasons.]
no subject
I--that is to say, er--thank you, I suppose.
[Good thing he isn't drinking any water or he would have choked on it.]
I really must identify what's causing this.
[And maybe hold her back from the crowd so she doesn't go telling Steve Rogers that information, okay.]
no subject
I'll have to make it up to you soon, when we're safe.
[Thankfully for Vision, she can be guided to other, safer topics.]
I had some of the meats and I tried most of the fruits. And the thing that looked like a potato. I didn't eat the strange weeds. And the lemonade was not very good so I only had a little.
no subject
Our little friend here tried all the meats, so one of them it ate that you did not may have made it sleepy, but the rest should be safe.
[And it was likely not the potato, if only because tubers tend to have complex starches rather than the simple ones that can easily ferment...if it's actually alcohol that did it. He can't eliminate it yet, though.]
Let's take samples of each, and tomorrow morning you can try them one at a time at various meals to identify it. And it will also give us an example of what they look like, so we can forage for more.
no subject
Wanda drinks a little more water, but it's going to take a while before it starts to purge the fruit's effects.]
Unless they drugged some of the food. I didn't taste anything strange.
[At least she didn't eat whatever-it-is that's making some unfortunate people run around the room. She's just...out of it.]
You're so pretty...I am very lucky. [And he's getting another cheek kiss, but it's a little closer to his jaw than usual. Whoops.]
no subject
Between the jaw-kissing and her earlier words, though, it's becoming more difficult to concentrate. Wanda gets the back of a now-freed finger stroking her cheek lightly in response.]
Is it luck, if you deserve every part of my affection?
[High on his priority list: figure out a mattress, like he was talking about to Steve. And not for sleeping.]
Ah, but who's to say what is strange when all the food options are new? I give it perhaps three days before someone identifies the culprit and starts a bar to serve it in the evenings.
no subject
We are still together, [she murmurs.] Maybe it is luck, maybe not...but I'm glad you're not alone.
[She takes another sip of water and rests her head against him again.]
Three days? I will be surprised if it doesn't happen tomorrow.
no subject
I suppose that would depend on how enterprising everyone is.
[And yet, even with lowered filters, she says something that makes him hold her even tighter for a moment. I'm glad you're not alone. Not I'm glad I'm not alone. Even with their lives turned upside down, she cares so much for how he feels.]
You are here with me. I could face anything, with that alone as support.
We'll figure this out together.
no subject
At least the worst anyone can say about Vision right now is that he clearly loves his wife very much. She nuzzles him again when he holds her tighter and sighs softly. Now would be a great time for cuddling...if only there was a place for it.]
You are all I need. [The little dragon chirps sleepily and Wanda giggles.] And you're important too. I will keep you both safe.
no subject
...He feels a little guilty at how invigorating it is to have a fresh problem to solve, but then, at least they're still helping people here.]
I will look forward to it, my love.
[And why not cuddle a little more? Hopefully the mysterious intoxicant doesn't come with a heavy hangover. She should probably try the other foods and talk to people, some they've never seen before and some they're seeing again for the first time in a year. He doesn't want to hog her attention (until after the party, anyway).]
no subject
She finds him again as the party comes to a close and there are so many things they need to talk about and figure out that it's hard to know where to start. Shelter, however, is at the top of the list by necessity.
Wanda takes Vision's hand and the night feels a little less cold.]
In Sokovia I would say we should find an abandoned building to stay in, but... [She shrugs.] All I see is abandoned buildings.
no subject
So he takes her hand gladly and skips right over the semi-occupied hotel in favor of seeking out something more private.]
It's difficult to say with any degree of certainty, but this does not seem to have originally been a residential sector. These, er, shops? We could lay claim to one of them for now, and then improve it or find a building better suited to a living area over the next few days. We may have to use vines and leaves for bedding tonight.
[He's had all sorts of ideas, from testing the tensile strength of the vines to weave them into hammocks to finding or making cloth sacks to stuff some of the sturdier leaves into, like corn-husk mattresses, to the unlikely event that they can find a lovingly preserved set of anti-gravity beds in one of the less-ruined buildings. An android can hope.
He strokes Wanda's hair apologetically.]
It may be a few days before we have a decent display of comfort, but we can make this work.
no subject
Whatever will make you more comfortable, love. This will not be the first floor I've slept on.
[If she gets much sleep at all. She's so emotionally wound up that it wouldn't matter if they found a real bed. Vision would still need to use all of the skills he's acquired in their time together to help her mind rest so she can even try to sleep.
She raises their twined fingers to her lips and gently kisses Vision's knuckles.]
Will you stay with me tonight? Or are there other things you need to do?
no subject
I will not leave you alone on our first night in an abandoned city, Wanda. Nor will you have to sleep on the floor directly, unless you should prefer it.
[There are a couple of countertops that could conceivably hold both of them, or they could quickly gather up some of the aforementioned leaves and vines to make a little nest out of.]
I could just float to sleep, but that would leave you cold, wouldn't it?
[He nuzzles her neck and inhales her scent. This might be the last time he smells her preferred shampoo for a while, and this is an entirely different kind of situation than they've been in before, and yet...part of him is excited to deal with the new challenge. It's not fair that they've been ripped away from their comfortable, happy life, but between seeing some old friends again and the stimulation of scavenging around a ruined civilization to helps its people rebuild he's intrigued.
Besides, he brought the most important part of home with him. She's in his arms.]
I don't know how long we will be here, but I am glad you are here with me.
no subject
I need to hold you, [she murmurs, tipping her head back and moaning softly as Vision nuzzles closer.] I need to feel you close to me.
[She is significantly less excited than he is about this particular challenge - struggling to get by like they undoubtedly will here is something she thought she'd left behind her. But she hasn't left Vision behind. There isn't a world where he's waking up without her to find himself alone on an alien planet with no hope of getting home beyond looking for Marsiva. She could survive - it would hurt like hell, but Wanda's lost everything once before and it hadn't killed her. But she'd never wish that on Vision's poor gentle heart. He will not know heartbreak because of her if Wanda gets any say in it.]
I told you once I could survive anything as long as you were with me. That never changed, Vizh.
no subject
Whatever they have to face, they'll face it together.]
We need not stay in this particular building long-term, of course, but for now it offers privacy and some security. ["Privacy" being something he's concerned with - he hadn't really minded living on the Twin Roses in the Fleet, but even that had doors that would close. And after living alone with Wanda for the past year, he'd become rather fond of not having to be afraid to make noise.]
Ah, can you see in this light level, or should I gather some materials to make a fire? I should gather some leaves or grasses for bedding regardless; the ground would be uncomfortable and leach away your body heat.
[And if he sees any now-familiar food items, maybe gather them for breakfast...there's a lot to do. Good thing the planet has longer days than they're used to.]
no subject
The fish will be enough. I have my powers until then. But... [And even in the low light, there's no mistaking the flash of fear in Wanda's eyes. She's afraid to let him go off into the dark on an unknown planet by himself. Anything could be waiting out there...
And fine, maybe she's a little scared of being left alone in the dark too.]
Maybe we should go together.
no subject
Let's go together. We can recover the fish from where we stashed them and bring them here, and gather some bedding along the way as well.
[There are plenty of unusual sounds outside, but between this part of the old city being more or less intact and whatever sounds and smells the two of them together make - and, most likely, the light from the Vision's glowing fish once they're recovered - no wild animals harass them. He's grateful the fish were brought along in their lantern-like globe-tanks, because the larger aquarium they usually lived in might be difficult to manage out here.
It does take the better part of an hour, but they return to the shop for a second time with several bundles of what might work out to be bedding, and even though he doesn't tire like a human does, the Vision is ready to cuddle with his wife for the rest of the night by now.]
There. It will be a nest for tonight. Tomorrow, we can work on making it a home, if a very temporary one.
no subject
It feels strange - she hasn't worn anything other than lingerie to bed in at least a year and here she is wondering whether or not to even take off her coat. Finally Wanda decides only to shed her gloves. Even then, she stuffs them into her pockets, old instincts from Sokovia in case they need to make a quick escape.
Does she want to lay on a pile of leaves and vines? Absolutely not, but the floor's not any better and what she really needs is Vision's arms around her.]
You are my home, [she tells him softly, taking his hand in hers and raising it to her lips. Her eyes don't leave his as she kisses his knuckles and guides his hand to her cheek.] I am yours, Vision. Take whatever you need from me.
no subject
The day has been rather emotionally exhausting, though, no mistake. He sighs and pulls her tightly to him, wrapping his arms around her and speaking in a low voice.]
What I need is for my beloved to know that I am here, and that she is still my first priority.
[Survival! Teamwork! Mysterious kids from alternate universes! It's a lot to deal with, make no mistake, but the reason his heart sings with confidence and excitement is because Wanda is here with him. It's as simple as that.]
Anywhere you are is home to me, Wanda. Establishing ourselves here - this will take a great deal of effort, but I want you to know that it does not mean I care for you any less if my attention becomes divided.
[He relaxes his grip and moves back to face her, meeting her eyes again and kissing her once more.]
I am a man of simple needs. So instead, I ask you: what do you need, my love?
