TEST DRIVE
Application FAQ | Taken Characters | Reserves | Application

Welcome to the first Test Drive for The Revival Project!

For those who do not know, this game is a spin-off from The Drift Fleet game, which is shortly closing. For more information about what this game is about, please check out the FAQ here or the premise here.

The TDM for the first round of applications is NOT required but is highly recommended. Really this is to see the interest level in the game as well as to have everyone interact on the new planet and with the new experiences offered here. There will be a post in the TDM where questions can be asked regarding the prompts/settings. We're keeping this loose though so go ahead and have fun with it. Any questions about the game please direct to the comment section of the FAQ.

If you are a Drift Fleet alumni, please label your character as 'DFAU' on your top level so we know. Also, keep in mind you have complete flexibility on how your character comes here. They could be taken before endgame, after endgame, two years after, one year before, etc. It's up to you! The only option not allowed is to completely restart your character (because then it's not DFAU, is it?)

So go! Explore Agra 10! And, as always, HAVE FUN!

*ATTENTION! RESERVES ARE NOW OPEN!*

WHALE COMB PARTY

In the square near your arrival point, one building seems to be in fairly good repair. It’s large and stark white on every wall. Unlike the other buildings, all the lights are on and the windows looking out are intact. That alone would make it remarkable but it’s hardly the most noticeable thing once you step inside the open doorway.

Hanging against one wall is a piece of fabric that has ‘WHALE COMB!’ painted on it in drippy, fluorescent pink letters. A smiley is painted underneath it right on the wall with three eyes and long fangs. The fangs drip down all the way to the floor and the eyes are just a blob of paint, but whoever left it seems to have been trying, here. ‘US THANK THEY!’ is written beside it, barely legible. On every other wall is ‘EAT’ in various sizes and colors. They thankfully don’t drip as much as the smiley since, beneath them, are tables upon tables of food.

There are meats, fruits, root vegetables, and even what might be a sweet dessert of some sort as well. Bowls are full of them, apparently a welcome dinner for the Agrii’s new heroes. At the very least it will give everyone a quick crash course on what is edible around here. But some of it might have … adverse effects:

- People chomping down on the striped meat all seem to get very drowsy a few minutes later.
- The red fruit that looks like a giant cherry is the equivalent of a few shots - the more consumed, the more drunken this party is getting.
- There is a bowl of weeds that have small, daisy-like flowers all along the stalks. This tastes like chicken and gives the eater a sudden burst of energy that will have them running around the room like they’re being chased.
-There are a collection of drinks, some made from the red fruit, some that are clearly water, some that taste like a less-sweet lemonade with no effects, and then there's a blue one that tastes like an especially dark beer. People drinking this will find themselves incapable of lying for a half hour.

Of course, no way to know any of this before you chow down. So dig in and enjoy the show!

LOST AND ALONE

They said don’t go into the forest. If the noises there weren’t deterrent enough then the thick trees and lack of paths should have been. Yes, you’ll need food. Yes, both meat and many fruits are in the forest. But maybe you should have gotten some more information before heading in.

Congratulations: you went into the forest and are now lost. You can’t hear the murmurings from town, nor can you see any of the lights that might be flickering on and off in the city. How are you going to get back into town? How do you make sure that the creatures here don’t attack you? You probably don’t have any weapons, so you’d better figure something out quick.

Or, maybe you’ll get lucky and run into another foolish person wandering around out here. Try not to attack them - unless they attack first.

MILES TO GO

The first thing every survivor needs to find is shelter. Not long after your arrival at the fountain, it’s getting darker now and, even if the night is short (you’re about to find out it’s not!), you don’t want to spend your first one out on an unfamiliar street. Distantly you can hear a sound like a wolf howling through an elephant’s trunk. It’s loud and alien. Maybe you want to find somewhere to sleep a little more quickly.

Right away there are two pretty solid options that will do nicely for the night: an abandoned hotel-like structure and some empty stores.

The hotel structure seems to be the most popular option for others. Its large, overgrown lobby leads you to the staircase and over a dozen floors of rooms in varying conditions. Despite it looking as though no one has set foot in here for decades, the stairs and floors all are secure. The rooms that have doors on them open up to dusty rooms that all have a bathroom (of sorts) attached and long, narrow bed frames. Figuring out a mattress will be a challenge but at least this is a safe place to sleep. As long as no animals laid claim to this room before you got in...

But let’s say the room in the hotel doesn’t work for you. Maybe the room is too small for you. Maybe you don’t like the stairs. Maybe you want someplace private to separate yourself from the rest of these strangers and to think quietly about what to do next. Either way, the other option is any number of abandoned stores lining the block where you arrived. The glass doors and windows of many are broken but there are just as many intact as well. The rooms are all large and empty, as whatever wares inside were either taken or dissolved over the years. There may be a counter or two that will get you off the ground, though. With all this space, you’re bound to find something to sleep on.

Unless someone else got there, first...

[He nods in response to both the asked and the implied question.]

If it was voluntary, I would not classify it as a kidnapping. The Atroma took us against our wills, for their own entertainment. or, rather, they claimed it was for an audience, in which case they took us for profit margins. It was hardly a noble cause, either way.

I was part of the Drift Fleet for several years, and more recently after we defeated them I settled on one of the planets we traveled to with Wanda Maximoff. [...He's guessing she knows who Wanda is, but one can never make assumptions.]

[ Holding a hero against their will for years is no small feat, and especially so when it's her father or Wanda Maximoff. The Atroma sounds formidable - but also defeated, thankfully.

She files the information away, but doesn't comment on it. Instead, she hones in on the fact that he spent his time there traveling to different planets, from the implications of his statement. ]

It sounds as if you have more experience dealing with alien planets than I have. [ Which for her is two planets. But one was Counter Earth, and the other she was busy worrying about Thanos. ] I will defer to your experience in dealing with this situation, then. I hope you find this agreeable.

Did you arrive with Wanda? What of the other Avengers?

[And they were hardly the only ones, either. The "augments" that had taught them all the ins and outs of space had also severely restricted certain powers and actions. But they had triumphed, in the end; the dark force was defeated and the shining beacon of hope freed. And he'd had a year of peace with the woman he loves as a reward.

Funny, though. He already doesn't regret getting stolen from his life a second time, if it means finding out he has children. He keeps smiling when he looks at Viv, still somewhat astonished that she even exists.]

I would find it most agreeable. I've been to several alien worlds, yes - although often with the safety of our own ships within easy hailing distance. Establishing safe habitation and a reliable food and water supply must necessarily take priority over our efforts to help those who brought us here, as that also appears to be the best chance to facilitate a return home.

[Help them and get helped in return - if the information they've found so far can be believed. It's a better start than some others he's had, certainly.]

Yes, I arrived with Wanda; I've also seen Captain Rogers about, as well as Agent Romanoff. But I've barely arrived myself. There may be others, either already here or in the process of arrival as you yourself have been.

[ That catches Viv's attention. She.. actually sounds surprised. ] Agent Romanoff? [ Viv had been working with Natasha when the woman died - Natasha, Viv, Miles, Amadeus, Riri, Nadia, and the Falcon had formed a group to take down Captain America, and then Natasha died taking a blow for Miles.

But with a supercomputer brain, it quickly turns into understanding. Black Widow had been an Avenger for a long time, and it logically followed that she would be one even in a world where the Avengers were more recently formed.

It would be this alternate version of her that was here. ]

I am glad to hear she is all right. It will be good to see her again, even if she does not know me.
unbearablynaive: (won't forget)

[personal profile] unbearablynaive 2019-07-18 05:33 pm (UTC)(link)
[Her surprise is easily explained by the comment about Natasha being "all right". Well, they do live dangerous lives, though it's sad to think that the Black Widow might not be around in all of them.

Yeah, nobody's exactly told him about what happens with her in his own universe.]

She's been a good friend to me, both at home and in our space adventures. I'm sure she'd be glad to meet you again.

[A strange expression, but one he's become familiar with. Still, it's probably disorienting to her, isn't it? He looks concerned.]

I am certainly glad to meet you again, even if I must apologize for not being the father you know. I would like to get to know you, however. Would that be acceptable?

[He's hoping it will. He's never been this excited to meet someone before.]

[personal profile] vivision 2019-07-19 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
[ Given the current circumstances, even if Viv were against the idea of bonding with an alternate version of her father, it would be most prudent to put that aside. After all, they are both heroes in a potentially dangerous situation, working together is the logical choice.

But that's a hypothetical only, as Viv is not against the idea in the slightest. It is... different. But she has seen similar scenarios, even been a part of some. It would be hypocritical of her to not offer a chance to bond with this version of her father. ]

I would be pleased for us to get to know each other better. You are still family, even if you are not the father I know.

[ She pauses, slightly. ] In the spirit of this, do you have any questions you would like me to answer about myself? [ She realizes, of course, that this could lead to awkward explanations... but she has never held back on the truth even to people who are not also her father.

She will survive, as the phrase goes. ]
unbearablynaive: (convincingly)

[personal profile] unbearablynaive 2019-07-19 04:21 pm (UTC)(link)
[His expression relaxes and he smiles at her answer. That's a good way to put it - heck, he'd considered himself cousins with Connor and they'd had virtually nothing in common, aside from both being classified as androids. Viv is at least another synthezoid - he can tell with the most basic scan.

And it does bring up all sorts of questions. Did he make her? Was he allowed to make her? Why? Was she--oh, that's one that he can ask, without being too greedy.]

I have many questions, as you can imagine. There is little urgency to them except for one.

[He holds up his left hand, which displays a simple gold wedding band.]

I...am married to Wanda Maximoff. Does that cause you any difficulty?
vivision: (concern for human friends)

[personal profile] vivision 2019-07-19 06:28 pm (UTC)(link)
[ That question is both difficult. It should not, logically, cause her any problems. Bit her most is a difficult subject, and it does touch upon her mother.

But she soldiered onto the answer. Having disengaged her emotional core helped with that. ]

I am glad to see your relationship is working with Ms... [ or Mrs.? Maximoff or Vision? ] ...Wanda. You are separate from the father I know, and your deserve your own happiness.

[ She should, she suspects, be fine even if her father, from her world, found another woman to settle down with. Her mother was dead, after all, and would not come back. In practice, she wasn't sure if she actually WOULD be fine.

She wasn't sure, 100%, that she would be fine with seeing an alternate version of her father with another woman, either. But it would be unfair to all parties involved to voice that.

... perhaps some explanation is required after all. ]

My mother was based on Wanda's brain waves. I am myself a mix of your brain waves and my mother's, in effect Wanda's. In a way, I am already related.

But my mother committed suicide. It will require some adjustment. [ To see somebody in her place. Even if it's an alternate version.

But it's not an adjustment she is unwilling to make.

And hey, her emotional core is already shut down, so it SHOULD be fine anyway. ]
unbearablynaive: (my responsibility)

[personal profile] unbearablynaive 2019-07-19 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Er, Maximoff. Anything else would be too confusing, we decided.

[But the second part of Viv's explanation leaves him astonished - even moreso than Viv's arrival in the first place. Strangely, the thought that Viv might have a mother hadn't actually occurred to him; he'd always claimed four fathers, after all, and he could absolutely understand the urge to have (make?) a child all by himself. But there had been--what? Another synthezoid, based on Wanda? And she'd committed suicide?

If he'd thought he had a lot of questions before, the Vision knows better now.

And because his mind processes things much faster than a human's, there's no visible hesitation at all before he steps closer to Viv and envelops her in a tight hug.]

That must have been terrible for you. I am so sorry, Viv.

[Because as much as he does claim the four fathers, JARVIS and Ultron were dead, he'd known Bruce Banner for all of a day, and heaven forbid Tony Stark act with a paternal bone in his body for someone that looked as adult as the Vision did. He'd never really had parental role models.

She did. And she'd already lost one of them.]

We will help you to make any adjustments you need. I don't want to cause you any hurt.
vivision: (unsure)

[personal profile] vivision 2019-07-20 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
[ Viv is not unused to hugs, especially from her father, but she is intensely aware that this version has just met her. And is already offering a hug?

She is hesitant, but does not pull away. She recognizes it as a comforting gesture, even if she believes she doesn't need it. ]

I am fine. My emotional core has remained disengaged since their deaths. [ Except for when she was human and had no emotional core. And also when Viv 2.0 disengaged it from within her body? But besides those times, it has been disengaged.

Viv believes this is healthy. ]

I must simply adjust to the new circumstances.
unbearablynaive: (caped crusader)

[personal profile] unbearablynaive 2019-07-22 03:56 pm (UTC)(link)
[He exhales in a huff, glad she accepted the hug, at least.]

That does not allow you to properly process grief, Viv. If you continue to avoid doing so, the force of it will hit at a time you may not be able to control, which could seriously compromise you.

[He lets go, though he remains close, and his tone and gaze both soften again.]

Though your arrival in a ruined alien city is hardly the proper time to do so, regardless. Once you have adjusted to the new circumstances, would you consider revisiting the subject with me?

[ Her own father - or her version of her father, more aptly - didn't question her decision on it, but he also was more intimately aware of it, dealing with the same emotions. She wondered if he agreed with her decision, or if he simply felt too personally involved to say anything.

Is this version of her father's advise coming from inexperience or from having a better perspective?

She simply finds herself nodding. ]
There never seems to be a good time for it. But if we find a better one, we can discuss it at more length. [ That's... close to acceptance. It's her way of saying she'll consider it, at least. ]

I hope we will have time to do so in the future. [ As opposed to being thrown into a chaotic mess that most superhero adventures tend to be. ]
unbearablynaive: (convincingly)

[personal profile] unbearablynaive 2019-07-26 04:36 pm (UTC)(link)
[A different perspective, certainly, but he's already admitted to Viv that he's much younger than her father and doesn't have nearly the same life experiences to draw from.

Then again, by not being personally involved in the situation he, does have a more objective approach to it. It might not even come up! It's not like there really is a good time to sit down and grieve when they are in, as she rightly assesses it, a chaotic mess.]

I would like that.

[He gives her another quick squeeze and then lets go of the hug.]

In any case, if it causes you discomfort to be around Wanda, I am happy to meet with you at different times. I hope we'll be able to work together until we find a way home.
