Spring Test Drive Meme!

Welcome to the Current Test Drive for The Revival Project!

This game is a spin-off from the closed The Drift Fleet game. For more information about the game, including more details on the setting, please check out the FAQ here or the premise here.

A thread on the TDM will be required for all applications. Please view the FAQ for information about how this works. Any questions about the game please direct to the comment section of the FAQ as well.

If you are a Drift Fleet alumni bringing your character from the game, please label your character as 'DFAU' on your top level. Also, keep in mind you have complete flexibility on how your character comes here. They could be taken before endgame, after endgame, two years after, one year before, etc. It's up to you! If you want to completely restart your character, they're not considered DFAU anymore and won't need the label.

So go! Explore Agra 10! And, as always, HAVE FUN!

Thread ideas:

- Explore the city! There's a map here and a bit more description of some of the buildings here. Most of the buildings are run down and have clearly been abandoned for years; fortunately, the water treatment center appears to be working, but power is intermittent and unreliable. The hotel seems to be the most crowded, but you might want into what appears to be an abandoned storefront and find someone else scavenging or even sleeping.

- There are spaceships! That's right, there are currently several small spaceships grounded in the hangar. They appear to have power, but only one ship will let you enter. (For test drive purposes, the ship that will let you enter is up to you, so just pick whichever name appeals, and go for it!) The other ships won't open for you, but it might be worth poking around the one that will...

- Do you hear a storm? A giant, power-altering storm has been ravaging part of the planet for a month. It shows ghosts of people you know and those you don't. It drains you of any super-human abilities and tries its best to keep you from getting to its origin. Are you going to try anyways? Or are you going to chase the whispers of people from your past? More information can be found  here.

- Can you hear me now? Upon arrival, your character will have on their person a small, handheld communications device. Maybe they know exactly how to use a computer, smartphone, or tablet, and immediately blast out a text or video trying to figure out what's going on. Or maybe they're not so tech-savvy after all, and everyone is about to get a lovely shot right up your character's left nostril.

- Wildcard! You're welcome to use any previous test drive scenarios or previous game events as a basis for a thread/situation, or simply make up your own! Keep in mind that you're currently stranded on a planet with only basic necessities, but there is enough food and fresh water. Creature comforts, however, seem to be distinctly lacking...

Reeve Tuesti | Final Fantasy 7 | 6i CRAU

[personal profile] plate_builder 2020-03-02 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Space Ships?

They are... very different from his experiences with vehicles. Reeve moved slowly through and around the space ship, considering the thing with an eye for detail and itchy fingers that truly wished to take the things apart to understand them. This was no airship such as Cid enjoyed and managed. Nor was it anything like the ShinRa No. 26 for which Rocket Town was named. But it was a marvel of engineering that had him, a man who was not very fond of working on vehicles, to drool.

"Cid would probably kill just to have three hours with whatever is powering this thing. I didn't know ships could function like this!"

Of course for him it's decades away, at the very least.

To The Power Plant

Sooner or later he was bound to end up here, was he not? A man who had gotten where he had in life thanks to, in no small part, refining power production processes, he was going to come here. Reeve had in fact made a day of it. He'd stopped by the greenhouse to get a few pieces of likely fruit, then started the walk across the landscape to the distant power plant. And upon arriving he moved right past the datapoint, a bit more interested in seeing the structure on his own. Unfortunately there was another issue at hand. One that turns him back from his attempt to travel after his first attempt.

He wasn't prepared for the plants or animals being harsh, and trying to keep him from the forested space between the power plant and the clearer part of the city.

After a few attempts Reeve sits in the road, staring toward the distant powerplant, frowning.

"If only I had some Materia, I could get through with magic. Or at least a rifle. How frustrating. I need to be there, but I don't know that I'm as suited to going there without assistance."

Who knows, maybe someone would be so kind as to show up and offer to escort him.

Network Post

[The man on the screen seems a bit confident there, like he isn't entirely unfamiliar with appearing before strangers. In fact, he looks fully composed. If, perhaps, a touch tired.]

Good afternoon all. I am Reeve Tuesti, and before I begin speaking deeply, I would like to throw out a few words and concepts to see if they hold meaning for anyone. Midgar. Mako. Materia. Avalanche. Sephiroth. Or how about The Village. Color-based powers. Peacats.

[Of course he doesn't expect answers, because why should he. His experience did not seem to imply this was a common thing, and it most definitely isn't what he had anticipated.]

With that done, allow me to continue. This is not my first, so to speak, 'rodeo'. However it is a very different experience for me, given knowledge bases one is working with. My proposition is this. I'm inherently an engineer and architect, as well as an experienced city planner. I would like to have assistance in improving maps of the city so that I can use them to see if I can determine the routes for power lines, water mains, and other systems. If we have a better understanding of this then it enables us to better address repairs in the future, as well as understand the systems by which this 'Agrii' work. That might enable us to better interface with their systems and get Temba working in quicker order, providing improved shelter against these 'storms' that are mentioned.

Any assistance or prior experience any can provide me with will be appreciated.

[He offers a brief nod and then frowns.]

And forgive me if, by chance, I react strangely to you if we meet. As I said, I have been taken away from my home before, and from my understanding from people there, there seems to be a propensity for strangers appearing who are, somehow, familiar to them from other worlds such as these. Perhaps certain souls are connected across many worlds and existences.

To The Power Plant

[personal profile] kallig 2020-03-03 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
Having made the power plant his new home, Altair knew just about where to go to get there without any resistance. It wasn't a place many tended to gather though, the amount of people working on it were relatively few, as most people tended to work in the green house- he didn't work there himself, either. Merely lived there.

Finding an unfamiliar man sitting in the road staring toward the power plant was not something he thought he'd find on the way, but then, Altair was used to the unexpected.

"You're new," He commented, coming to a stop a few feet away. He hadn't sensed him around before, after all, and he'd been here long enough to know how the people around felt- and looked, now that he'd mostly stopped wearing his veil.

"Are you trying to go to the power plant?"

[personal profile] plate_builder 2020-03-03 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
Reeve looks up when he hears the man's voice, and strangely enough, does not even begin to flinch. After all, oddly enough, this is not the first man with blue skin and glowing eyes that he's met. How interesting that it should occur again. And that he should understand the stranger. Must chalk that up to their captors.

He rises and dusts off his pants before nodding to the man, both for the statement and the question.

"That would be correct, in both areas. Reeve Tuesti, and I've attempted the way a few times. However the plants along the path do not like me, and the creatures in the trees like to throw things at me. Sadly, here I am woefully unequipped to do something in response."

"Altair Kallig," The Sith introduced himself in kind, giving a polite little bow of his head. The lack of fear or confusion about his appearance, Altair takes as the man either being familiar with aliens, or that he's just very good at hiding his feelings. It doesn't really matter, either way.

He turned his head to look off to the power plant then, "I can play guide if you'd like. I know a path that is easier than this one. And should anything try to get in our way, it won't be an obstacle for long."

Altair was Sith after all, there was little flora and fauna could do to stop him.

[personal profile] plate_builder 2020-03-03 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
Less good at hiding his feelings, and definitely no experience with aliens. More... Strange people from other worlds. When you've met a Qunari, an elf, and a member of the X-Men, you learn some tolerance quite quickly.

"Yes, thank you. I would appreciate that. I wish to come to a better understanding of the power systems here."
kallig: (More explanations)

[personal profile] kallig 2020-03-03 06:28 am (UTC)(link)
"Follow me," Altair said, motioning for the other man to come along.

"There is a data point that you can touch for information in the power plant, as well. It should help you understand the technology here better. There are several, in fact- though should you touch a new one, you lose the knowledge you had from the old one."

He should know, having given up his agricultural information for the medical information he thought to be more important, given how many people worked in the greenhouse already.
plate_builder: Image from Capseroo @ DW; Icon by me (Default)

[personal profile] plate_builder 2020-03-04 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
The man definitely has Reeve following him quite easily. However he makes a half disgusted noise at the mention of the data point.

"One should always attempt to understand though their own frame of reference first. If you just have the knowledge passed to you easily and immediately, then you do not truly possess understanding."

Yes, he respects that these datapoints somehow act as the Lifestream and Materia do, granting one access a bit more intimately to memory and knowledge than those crystallized memories of his worlds did. And he respects using them. However if he is supposed to understand it properly, he wants to look at these systems himself.
kallig: (Neutral stare)

[personal profile] kallig 2020-03-05 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
"To each their own. I am used to grasping for knowledge and power in strange places- and I was no medic at home. Here, I am."

Not that it had been his first choice, to touch the data point with the knowledge of how to save lives. How to work the machines in the hospital, how to tell medicines apart. Still, it had been necessary, much like he'd thought it necessary to tend the greenhouse once.

He led the other man toward the power plant, following an easier path, and while some animals tried to get in their way, Altair merely flung the creatures throwing themselves at them back into the trees with the Force- just giving a gentle flick of the wrist here and there.

[personal profile] plate_builder 2020-03-05 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
"I am an engineer and an architect, so... I suppose starting with what I know is a better choice. To see if I require their input or if there is enough for me to intuit so that I can take another skill and be more useful."

Because sometimes the most important thing is understanding how different systems interfaced.
kallig: (Explaining)

[personal profile] kallig 2020-03-07 04:14 pm (UTC)(link)
"I suppose so, yes."

He couldn't blame him for it. Had he seen any other option, he probably wouldn't have used any data points either. As it was, he had a need to do something. Be useful.

Arriving at the power plant then, he gestured toward the place, "And here we are. I will tell you though, that you won't be alone here. There are more who've chosen to work here."

And live there, but he didn't say that. The man seems reasonably intelligent- enough to not disturb any area that's lived in by someone else.

[personal profile] plate_builder 2020-03-07 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
"I would hope not to be alone. It is my intention to provide another point of view. Hopefully one that will allow us to progress. I cannot remain here. I have much work to do at home."

A whole world to make up to for his failings and sins.

[Steve likes this guy immediately. Not only is he experienced and coming to the table with a plan, but he also doesn't seem all that phased about what happened to him. It's oddly refreshing and gives Steve hope that they might be able to make big strides here.

He sends a video call over and smiles at the newcomer.]

Hey there. Sorry, the only word I know is 'Avalanche' and that means a whole mess of snow falling down a mountain. I don't think that's what you had in mind.

The name is Steve Rogers. I'm from Earth if that means something to you?
plate_builder: Image from Capseroo @ DW; Icon by me (The Sky is the Limit)

[personal profile] plate_builder 2020-03-03 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
[There is, interestingly enough, a flicker of familiarity at the concept of 'Earth' being a place.]

It does in fact mean something to me. The last place like this that I found myself a guest of had many people who hailed from a place called Earth. Made friends with a few of them. But you yourself are not familiar to me.

[Still, he offers a respectful nod to Steve, considering him thoughtfully.]

[personal profile] brooklyn_boy 2020-03-03 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
I can't say I've met you before, either. Sorry. But I get what you mean; I was taken by the Atroma couple of years ago. Put on an intergalactic reality show. It was pretty bizarre. And now this.

[He nods back a little bit and keeps smiling.]

Where were you, before? Home?
plate_builder: Image from Capseroo @ DW; Icon by me (Default)

[personal profile] plate_builder 2020-03-03 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, at least you seemed to have a purpose. We neither knew who brought us to the Village, nor their purpose. In fact, I was sent home when they were done with us. Or I was supposed to be. Instead I am here.

From my understanding the Village was an 'Iteration', if that holds any meaning to you.
brooklyn_boy: (Default)

[personal profile] brooklyn_boy 2020-03-03 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
[Steve shakes his head.]

Sorry, it doesn't. But I know a little bit about different realities, if it's close to that? My significant other is actually my best friend from another reality so. Yeah. I get that really well.
plate_builder: Image from Capseroo @ DW; Icon by me (Not Really Listening)

[personal profile] plate_builder 2020-03-03 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
Alternate realities? How intriguing. I don't know that I ever encountered someone like that in my experiences. So now you've given me cause to wonder what my world would have been like if I had remained a farmer.

However that is not here or there. While I am here I will seek to rebuild this world. I have a bit of experience.
brooklyn_boy: (Default)

[personal profile] brooklyn_boy 2020-03-03 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
That's amazing. We definitely need someone like you so I can see why the Agrii grabbed you. Trust me, we've barely scraped the start of this city and there's still a lot more to go.

[He pokes at his communicator and pulls up the map to send over.]

I took the medical specialization so I won't be a huge help. But here's what we have so far. Also I'm pretty strong so if you need muscle for lifting, I will definitely do what I can.
plate_builder: Image from Capseroo @ DW; Icon by me (Default)

[personal profile] plate_builder 2020-03-03 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
Someone like me? Intriguing. I'm assuming there have not been a lot of... Structural specialists here.

[Medical specialization. Steve. Reeve tucks that away in his brain.]

Strength is always valuable. I will keep you on a short list.
brooklyn_boy: (smile)

[personal profile] brooklyn_boy 2020-03-04 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. No. When we first got here the hotel structure barely even held us. It still could use a lot of help.

My boyfriend should be on your list, too. Bucky. He's got the same serum that I do so we're both super-strong. Between us you shouldn't need any cranes.
plate_builder: Image from Capseroo @ DW; Icon by me (I Need A Plan)

[personal profile] plate_builder 2020-03-04 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
Cranes would still be required for things that are higher up. Of course there are means by whcih improvised scaffolding could be useful. Bamboo can be used to extreme effect if you have the correct sort.
brooklyn_boy: (Default)

[personal profile] brooklyn_boy 2020-03-04 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
Ah. Yeah... [He scratches at the back of his neck.] You might need to ask Tommy about that. We don't have plants like you're probably used to. He pretty much runs the agriculture center though, so he'd be able to help.

And if you like mint, you're really in luck.
plate_builder: Image from Capseroo @ DW; Icon by me (Default)

[personal profile] plate_builder 2020-03-04 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
Tommy? I shall make note of that.

And why would liking or not liking mint matter?
brooklyn_boy: (Default)

[personal profile] brooklyn_boy 2020-03-04 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
We sort of had...a mint explosion, here. [He laughs, remembering it.]

It overgrew the area it was in and went into town. I think people called it the mint.
plate_builder: Image from Capseroo @ DW; Icon by me (Default)

[personal profile] plate_builder 2020-03-04 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
I've never heard of explosive... oh. I see.

[That's... strange. In fact, Reeve looks very disturbed by this.]

How thorough was the overgrowth? There are still somewhat intact roads. It can't have been that bad.
