Spring Test Drive Meme!

Welcome to the Current Test Drive for The Revival Project!

This game is a spin-off from the closed The Drift Fleet game. For more information about the game, including more details on the setting, please check out the FAQ here or the premise here.

A thread on the TDM will be required for all applications. Please view the FAQ for information about how this works. Any questions about the game please direct to the comment section of the FAQ as well.

If you are a Drift Fleet alumni bringing your character from the game, please label your character as 'DFAU' on your top level. Also, keep in mind you have complete flexibility on how your character comes here. They could be taken before endgame, after endgame, two years after, one year before, etc. It's up to you! If you want to completely restart your character, they're not considered DFAU anymore and won't need the label.

Thread ideas:

- Explore the city! There's a map here and a bit more description of some of the buildings here. Most of the buildings are run down and have clearly been abandoned for years; fortunately, the water treatment center appears to be working, but power is intermittent and unreliable. The hotel seems to be the most crowded, but you might want into what appears to be an abandoned storefront and find someone else scavenging or even sleeping.

- There are spaceships! That's right, there are currently several small spaceships grounded in the hangar. They appear to have power, but only one ship will let you enter. (For test drive purposes, the ship that will let you enter is up to you, so just pick whichever name appeals, and go for it!) The other ships won't open for you, but it might be worth poking around the one that will...

- Do you hear a storm? A giant, power-altering storm has been ravaging part of the planet for a month. It shows ghosts of people you know and those you don't. It drains you of any super-human abilities and tries its best to keep you from getting to its origin. Are you going to try anyways? Or are you going to chase the whispers of people from your past? More information can be found here.

- Can you hear me now? Upon arrival, your character will have on their person a small, handheld communications device. Maybe they know exactly how to use a computer, smartphone, or tablet, and immediately blast out a text or video trying to figure out what's going on. Or maybe they're not so tech-savvy after all, and everyone is about to get a lovely shot right up your character's left nostril.

- Wildcard! You're welcome to use any previous test drive scenarios or previous game events as a basis for a thread/situation, or simply make up your own! Keep in mind that you're currently stranded on a planet with only basic necessities, but there is enough food and fresh water. Creature comforts, however, seem to be distinctly lacking...

[Jesus, this one is slippery. Fine, a new tactic:] I mean, you were always really dependent on her. It's good that she's keeping you focused on what's important, you know, helping these aliens that...took you. That makes sense, that sounds like your mom.

You hate admitting that you don't know anything, don't you? You don't want to admit that you're not from as far forward in time as I'm assuming. You just enjoying twisting and turning between things, trying to puzzle out answers you don't have a right to? Because if you knew who I was, Stark, you would never say I was 'always' dependent on a woman I've met once.

Listen, and you seem to think you know me better than I do, yet, so give this the gravity it deserves, okay, this is my real profession: that ego of yours is out of control. You know what answers I think I have a right to? What the fuck I'm doing here, what the two of us have in common to have brought us here, and what reason I should have to believe anything I've heard yet. [Then again, that was more informative that almost anything else Speed had said, and it can't have been easy to say most of it...Tony wasn't about to throw out a useful tool.] But a lot of bad people have been under the impression that I can help them, too. You've made a big sacrifice for these guys, I can see that, but I haven't met them, I don't get why this is so important to you right now. Don't get it twisted: I'm not saying no one should help them, I'm not saying doing what they ask just to get home is unreasonable, I'm just trying to get to the foundations here before the building comes down.

I don't CARE about whether you think it's unreasonable or not. My brother and my best friend are stuck here. My Aunt is stuck here. Wanda has been separated from her Vision. I want to help them so everyone can go the fuck home. Which matters. It beyond matters. Their lives are worth it!

I have a lot of reasons not to like you, Stark. So ball busting sure seems pretty fair to me. Because frankly, I don’t trust you as far as I can throw you. Which is a terrible thing to say when you’re, like, super strong I guess. And I reached out because, like, if someone’s going to solve this, it sure as fuck isn’t the high school dropout.

[He does sigh and shakes his head, though.]

[Not being liked, that's one thing, that's the standard model. But not being trusted, while still fair, Tony wouldn't claim he'd made a ton of trustworthy choices in his life, that did cut. Especially from a kid. That stranger he was in the blackout, he hurt this kid.]

Thomas, a pleasure. However we solve this problem, it won't be in isolation. I promise you, some of the most innovative and invaluable people I've known were the high school dropouts. Now, what's this crazy shit about storm figments?

[Tony only has a sketch of this kid's history, and it definitely wasn't a version that Thomas would have told him first hand, so he's not sure how to approach this delicately but...] Do, uh, other people see these apparitions? You know have you seen one...with someone?

Wow, asshole. I'm not crazy. Teddy was there when I saw one. And other people saw them too. Billy did. So don't you get like that with me!

[It was a fair gamble.] The same apparitions? You both saw...Hawkeye, or whoever?

[Tony's staring hard for a second, because it really doesn't matter who Thomas saw, and that was a distinctly unclear answer. Not just the language, but the way it's said, making Tony not eager to pursue this issue.]

So, you both saw her. The three of you could have a conversation together, you were sharing this experience. Do you want her to be here? [This kid almost had him distracted, but there's that warning light going off again. Is this whole interaction carefully constructed to convince Tony to stick around and play along, it's okay, the water's fine?]

[He wants her to be alive. And that isn't going to happen. But geez, Tony was more paranoid than Tommy was.]

Dude, you're tedious. Fuck it. I'm going back to the greenhouse. Go be paranoid for yourself. Be here, be miserable, believe no one is real. I'm going to have a few cyananas and try and figure out how to can vegetables so there can be something other than protein paste around.
