FALL TEST DRIVE MEME

FALL TEST DRIVE MEME
Application FAQ | Taken Characters | Reserves | Application
Welcome to the Current Test Drive for The Revival Project!
This game is a spin-off from the closed The Drift Fleet game. For more information about the game, including more details on the setting, please check out the FAQ here or the premise here.
A thread on the TDM will be required for all applications. Please view the FAQ for information about how this works. Any questions about the game please direct to the comment section of the FAQ as well.
If you are a Drift Fleet alumni bringing your character from the game, please label your character as 'DFAU' on your top level. Also, keep in mind you have complete flexibility on how your character comes here. They could be taken before endgame, after endgame, two years after, one year before, etc. It's up to you! If you want to completely restart your character, they're not considered DFAU anymore and won't need the label.
So go! Explore Agra 10! And, as always, HAVE FUN!
Thread ideas:
Fall in Temba and Sh'Ka
Temba seems almost peaceful, breathing out a sigh of relief after its near destruction. Just southeast of the city one finds signs of the damage in greater evidence. The recent lava flows have taken out large stretches of vegetation, replacing them with fresh volcanic rock left bare at the surface. In some places there's even residual heat given off, especially closer to the volcano that now rests as an unending reminder of what was nearly lost. Meanwhile in the city itself the plants that would normally provide a natural abundance outside of the domain of the greenhouse seem to offer scant pickings, perhaps a result of the intense heat of the summer.
Meanwhile in Sh'Ka fall proves to be a threat, though in a new way this year than in any before. The danger derives from the Blood Vines near the train station. Apparently ash-rich soil only feeds the vampiric plant, and its spines are larger than ever as its vines lie hidden under the mounds of ash, ready for any unsuspecting prey.
Explore
Despite having been protected from being destroyed by the volcano itself and unlike Sh'Ka not having been buried in vast amopunts of ash, Temba still suffered notable damage from the earthquakes that came with the volcano's eruption. Previously restored buildings were damaged and others entirely caved in on themselves leaving them beyond any hope for restoration. The streets and paths are even worse to traverse than they used to be but for what it's worth water and electricity are still working. Most of the time.
Needless to say, exploring is more risky these days as buildings may still cave in without warning and seemingly solid roads may crack open to drop anunsuspecting wanderer into underground caves left behind by the quakes.
And yet the city can still be explored. If you are lucky, you might even stumble over The Deep End, the bar located on one of the mid-levels of the tower residences in one of the residence towers. Unfortunately no bright neon signs can lead you there, but it does exist.
Now what's happening with the hangar?!
Try the network!
There be storms...
Should you step inside the storm, or even get lost in it, it will show ghosts of people you know and those you don't. It drains you of any super-human abilities and tries its best to keep you from getting to its origin. Are you going to try anyways? Or are you going to chase the whispers of people from your past? Maybe you will simply find yourself calling for help or stumble across another lost soul in need of assistance.

"Exactly. So I'm wondering if he fights a lot," Max points out.
no subject
"Hmm. He might. I got the impression he's a heroic type, so he might be fighting to protect others," Kavinsky said. "Though he also said the animals where he's from are named after special attributes. So maybe he's got like, really badass knuckles."
no subject
"Why Latin?"
Max nods her head. "A heroic echidna." She repeats the words like she knows she shouldn't believe any of this, but the truth is. "On an alien planet. After I was pulled out of an alternate dimension." She keeps nodding as she speaks.
She doesn't have a choice but to believe this. "I'm just going to have to meet him."
no subject
He nodded along, as well. "Yup, that's the gist of it. Sounds insane, but you get used to that sort of thing after a while." Or, in Kavinsky's case, he'd been used to this sort of thing from the start.
no subject
Max pauses on that thought - just get used to it?
"I guess. First it sounds completely unreal, then it just becomes normal."
no subject
"Yup. I mean, it helps when you've been through weird shit to start with, cause it alters your idea of what 'normal' is, but-" he shrugged.
no subject
Kavinsky says but, and Max continues on with, "But this is still kinda weird," she points out with a smile, gesturing to the alien planet and destroyed buildings around them.
no subject
"And yeah, it is. I did not have 'abducted by aliens' on my bingo card." He sort of regretted it as soon as he said it. Bingo was for old people, not that he played, of course, but why did it have to be the first thing he thought of?
no subject
Maybe bingo is for old people, but Max laughs all the same.
"What did you have on there? Play shuffle board?"
no subject
He laughed, too. "I don't even know what shuffle board is," he admitted. "I figured the Mitsu would break down or something and then I'd have to pester Parrish about it until it was fixed." He paused for a moment, realized she didn't have any context for who that was, and added, "He works at the mechanic's."
no subject
Mention of 'the Mitsu' throws her off. What does that have to do with bingo? What is that? At least he explains Parrish.
"And what's the Mitsu?"
no subject
He blinked. "It's-" he laughed. "I have a Mitsubishi Evo. That's a car." He'd say it was his pride and joy, but he was always working on dreaming up a better version of it. Or he had been, before ending up here. Though, the agonizing weeks it'd been in the impound lot had nearly driven him out of his mind.
"Specifically, a sports car. Since I street race." It was only a bad idea to mention it if it was a secret, and it wasn't, so. "Not here, but- home."
no subject
A nod and cant of her heard, then Max has to ask, "You any good? You win money, or something? Or you just race for the sake of beating someone else?"
no subject
"Yeah, I'm good. I don't usually race for money, don't need it, but I'm not one to stop people from placing bets. Usually, it's just for fun, the adrenaline rush. Sometimes, my friends and I participate in unofficial-" read as 'illegal' "-race events, like on Fridays and shit. It's fun when it's a little more structured, sometimes."
no subject
"Don't need it?" It's all she can think about sometimes, how they need more, and she needs to help her mom. "Sounds kinda fun, though."
no subject
He gestured vaguely. "My father rakes in the money. Fuels mom's shopping sprees for whatever new pair of shoes she needs right now." And her less savory habits. "She did some modeling before, but now she's just a trophy wife. Pretty sure he only married her for her boobs." And her willingness to participate in and put up with illegal activity.
Anyway, racing- "Races are one of the only things I care about at home. They're absolutely fun."
no subject
"Oh. A rich guy," Max teases him, only to frown at the part about his mother. "That's not good. Your mom just have bad taste in men?" She asks the question carefully, treading on that slowly.
"Too bad we can do something like that here."
no subject
You know- he'd never, not once, considered if his mother had bad taste in men. He hadn't...thought of her as anything like a good person who'd just made a bad decision. "She-" How did he put it delicately--something he was generally never concerned with. "I think they're perfect for each other, actually. You know, in that way where two horrendously shitty people deserve each other because no one else would put up with them, anyway."
He shrugged a shoulder. "Yeah, it's a shame. Can't even throw a good party, here."
no subject
Max watches Kavinksy as he contemplates how to phrase himself, concern growing. When he does answer, her eyes trail down.
"Oh. You're not...still living with them, are you?" He talks like she's so young, so he should be old enough to move out, right?
There's a huff, mildly amused, "What kind of party does it need to be to be good? If you get the right people, we can have fun. Seems like a great party to me."
cw: drugs mention
He exhaled. "My father's in Jersey. He stayed there to do- ...business. Mom and I moved to Virginia a while back. Before-" he gestured at their surroundings "-I was planning on moving out after graduation. It was just a few more months. I thought I could make it, maybe. But I wanted to see how certain other things panned out before I decided if I was going to get a place in town or leave and never look back." He was absolutely old enough to have moved out. He was going to be nineteen in roughly three months, even.
"There's usually bonfires. Pyrotechnics. Alcohol. Substances, if it's that kind of party. It's hard to get a lot of that shit in a timely manner here." And he could do it his way, but 1) it'd probably be exhausting and 2) it'd raise a lot of eyebrows. "You might be onto something, though. Maybe it doesn't have to be as extravagant."
no subject
"Got it. You don't want to leave and have to go back," Max mutters, eyes wide as she looks at Kavinsky, still with that discomfort and worry. She had thought, for a moment, he was lucky for the money, but now she doesn't think so.
"Of course I'm on to something. You don't need all of that stuff just to have a great party. And we can make a bonfire. That's all we need. With some music."
no subject
"Mmm, that's true. Bonfires are pretty easy to do. And I can definitely supply music." He thought about it for a moment. "You really don't think just that stuff would be boring?"
no subject
She rolls her eyes.
"Of course not. If you have music people can dance to it. And if you have a bonfire, maybe we can get a bag of marshmallows out of the replicator and roast them. It's light. You can tell ghost stories. And it can be plenty of fun."
no subject
He smiled, steadily more and more- amused? Endeared?- as she went on. Nobody had ever gone to any of his parties for marshmallows or ghost stories. But- why couldn't that change? Why couldn't he work with what he had, adapt to the atmosphere of this place and the people who were in it? "That sounds very...autumnal. I like it, actually."
no subject
"If the person is the shitty situation, that's never worth sticking around for," Max points out to him, her eyes flickering up and down between the table and Kavinsky's face.
"But...." She sighs. "If you mean someone you want to date, but it gets you put into shitty situations because you want to date that person?" Her heart hurts. "Then yeah, it's worth it." She shrugs. She's not ready to admit how much of that is personal experience, but it might be obvious.
"Well, that's what is, right? And you can come up with a couple of ideas, right? We can absolutely have a party like that."
