Welcome to the Current Test Drive for The Revival Project!

This game is a spin-off from the closed The Drift Fleet game. For more information about the game, including more details on the setting, please check out the FAQ here or the premise here.

A thread on the TDM will be required for all applications. Please view the FAQ for information about how this works. Any questions about the game please direct to the comment section of the FAQ as well.

If you are a Drift Fleet alumni bringing your character from the game, please label your character as 'DFAU' on your top level. Also, keep in mind you have complete flexibility on how your character comes here. They could be taken before endgame, after endgame, two years after, one year before, etc. It's up to you! If you want to completely restart your character, they're not considered DFAU anymore and won't need the label.

Winter in Temba and Sh'Ka

What says winter more than snow?

Lots of snow.

MORE snow.

Indeed. It's snowing. A lot. From one day to the next both Temba and Sh'Ka are covered in snow and especially in Temba these masses of snow may even collapse some of the more damaged buildings, so be careful where you seek shelter.

But the Agrii are trying to help and we all know nothing ever gets weird or wrong when the Agrii decide to help their He-Rows. Two small, vividly colored snowblower drones are doing their best to clear paths along the most used streets of Temba. It looks like one of the Agrii has used their years of observing frustrated He-Rows shovel and magically melt snow wisely. Unfortunately these little drones, despite being equipped with large googly eyes, don't really see what they are doing and while clearing out one street may end up blocking five others as well as the doors to buildings.

And if it isn't the snow itself or the little snow drones blocking you in, there are still the prevailing dangers left by the earthquake that are now well hidden under snow. Huge cracks in the ground are now perfectly camouflaged, so be mindful where you step. You may end up in an icy underground cavern without ever having meant to end up there.

In other areas the cold has a value for a time. The much diminished flood plain soon freezes over enough for skating, until it too ends up in a layer of snow. But that's more easily brushed aside so maybe you can do something with that? Or perhaps it's just better to stay inside, where there is heat and perhaps other people avoiding the heavy blanket that covers Temba.

Sh'Ka is also covered in snow as mentioned before, but it lacks the little snow-blowing helpers sent by the Agrii. So here the paths between places will have to be those you forge yourselves. At least Sh'Ka doesn't have the same issue with ice caverns just under the surface, or with buildings collapsing until the weight of winter's most predictable weather system.

Explore ~~the city~~ Temba!

Here's a map of Temba and a bit more description of some of the buildings here.

Despite having been protected from being destroyed by the volcano itself and unlike Sh'Ka not having been buried in vast amopunts of ash, Temba still suffered notable damage from the earthquakes that came with the volcano's eruption. Previously restored buildings were damaged and others entirely caved in on themselves leaving them beyond any hope for restoration. The streets and paths are even worse to traverse than they used to be but for what it's worth water and electricity are still working. Most of the time.

Needless to say, exploring is more risky these days as buildings may still cave in without warning and seemingly solid roads may crack open to drop anunsuspecting wanderer into underground caves left behind by the quakes.

And yet the city can still be explored. If you are lucky, you might even stumble over The Deep End, the bar located on one of the mid-levels of the tower residences in one of the residence towers. Unfortunately no bright neon signs can lead you there, but it does exist.

RETURN OF THE SHIPS!!

Yes, they are back. Though you may not be aware of it, the ships stored in the hangar have been gone for quite some time, but they have been returned very recently. In a way, at least. What used to be a group of nine smaller ships has become a very shipable pair of brand new, notably larger space vessels and you just may feel compelled to enter one of these two ships to take a look around. The glitter dispensers await you!

Try the network!

The network is back up! Upon arrival, your character will have on their person a small, handheld communications device. Maybe they know exactly how to use a computer, smartphone, or tablet, and immediately blast out a text or video trying to figure out what's going on. Or maybe they're not so tech-savvy after all, and everyone is about to get a lovely shot right up your character's left nostril.

There be storms...

These power-altering storms keep ravaging parts of the planet every once in a while. No one truly knows where they come from or what to do about them yet, but one of them appears to be approaching. You have the option to find shelter in one of the buildings to wait for it to pass. Unless, of course, you rather feel drawn to investigate.

Should you step inside the storm, or even get lost in it, it will show ghosts of people you know and those you don't. It drains you of any super-human abilities and tries its best to keep you from getting to its origin. Are you going to try anyways? Or are you going to chase the whispers of people from your past? Maybe you will simply find yourself calling for help or stumble across another lost soul in need of assistance.

You're welcome to use any previous test drive scenarios or previous game events as a basis for a thread/situation, or simply make up your own! Keep in mind that you're currently stranded on a planet with only basic necessities, but there is enough food and fresh water. Creature comforts, however, seem to be distinctly lacking. Quite unlike a gathering of potentially dangerous creatures to encounter. The setting is yours to explore and have fun with!

"Admittedly, it would be a lot easier if they didn't put limitations on the things they allowed us to have because I'm pretty sure it would make the process a whole lot easier for people in general." Or restricted use of shuttles. It's all very backwards and there's been no shortage of frustration.

"But yeah, I'm sure I could if they'd just let us!"

"... So they expect us to fix their problems for them and take away a lot of things we could be using to help it along?!" Oh, real smart there. "How're we even supposed to go about anything?!"

"Providing those sorts of answers would make things too convenient," Donnie says. He looks at what's left of his coffee before tossing it back and slamming the mug down. At least he imagines that's what people do when they drink hard liquor. He'll just have to pretend.

"This whole thing is completely inefficient," Fang scowls. "Has anyone figured out a better plan to get stuff done?"

He jumps a mile at the slamming of the mug. Well, that was unexpected. Kid pretending to be an adult, eh?

He doesn't seem to notice the reaction, annoyed as he is with the inadequate answers that are available for the questions Fang asks. It's nothing that hasn't already come up, and Donnie's gone down these conversational paths far more often than he cared to.

"I think it's in a state of continual progression."

Well, that's vague.

"I'm pretty good at mechanics and robotics," Fang says. "Maybe together we can try to figure out how to get out of here."

"Huh, yeah? That why you've work with Robotnik?" Donnie asks, brow arching at that. He's not sure that more people with a mind for machinery will change things but maybe they'll work out something. That something's just become more and more nebulous, especially now that Donnie's actually experienced a so-called storm.

"Maybe that's why he hires me, but I work for him for the money," Fang says. Surely something will improve if they all think together. Of course, he's not familiar with storms yet.

Donnie eyes his mug, debating a second cup. Not like he's had a steady sleeping schedule since he'd come here anyway. "So you make robots?"

"Hoverbikes with a whole arsenal installed," Fang says proudly. "And sometimes mechs. Big ones for piloting, you know?"

"Ooh, hoverbikes. That sounds cool. Mechs are even better. Soon as I ever get anything able to power something like that, it's definitely on my list of things to build back home." No one ever gives him Uranium though, more's the pity. Hindering progress!

"And I'm guessing there's nothing here that could be used for that," Fang says in annoyance.

Donnie laughs again. "Of course not, that would be much too easy."

"Right, right." Fang scowls, pondering on these problems. "You got any idea if Eggman's figured anything out?"

If anyone could, it'd surely be him.

"In regards to transportation, I'm pretty sure it's on his list of things to do. We've got a lot of ongoing projects and they're mostly in experimental phases."

Donnie shrugs. "You're welcome to contact him yourself and ask for any specifics. Gotta warn you though, it's a toss-up as to whether or not it's the same doctor you know."

"'We'? You're working with him?"

He frowns suspiciously at this. "Whaddya mean, the same one? How many Egg-mooks could there be?!"

"Well, yeah." That's not really a huge secret so Donnie doesn't see anything wrong with the admission.

"As it turns out, people come here from different timelines and apparently alternate versions of worlds. By my count there's at least several variations of Earth alone represented amongst the current populace."

"And how's that goin' for you?"

He ponders this. "... Well, that's not somethin' you hear every day."

"Not bad. It's great having a chance to work with someone who actually appreciates my ability," Donnie admits. He'd been a bit worried that the revelation of his being friends with Sonic would make things awkward all around, and okay, so it was a little once he got them in the same room, but hopefully they'd gotten it all out since then. Points had been made, agreements and hesitant truces. All in all, Donnie thinks it went fairly well.

"No, not at all. But it's true, weird as it is."

Fang smirks in agreement. "Yeah, that does feel pretty good."

He tries to work it out in his mind. "You ever get two of the same guy that way?"

That's an excellent question. Donnie frowns. "The potential's there, but personally I haven't come across any instances here. But then I've only been here for so long compared to others."

"I wonder what'd happen if two of the same guy didn't like each other," Fang smirks darkly.

"Well, if there ever came such circumstances and they started to go at it we could actually tell them to quit hitting themselves."

Fang laughs out loud at that. "Yeah, we could at that."

He gets up. "I'm gonna see what kinda food's in the kitchen."

"Sure, knock yourself out," Donnie says, waving a hand. "Oh yeah, and if you need a place to stay, the hotel's across that way and rooms are set up for anyone's use so long as someone else hasn't already claimed it."

In the meantime he's going to debate whether he wants to head back into the cold just yet.
