WINTER TEST DRIVE MEME

WINTER TEST DRIVE MEME
Application FAQ | Taken Characters | Reserves | Application

Welcome to the Current Test Drive for The Revival Project!

This game is a spin-off from the closed The Drift Fleet game. For more information about the game, including more details on the setting, please check out the FAQ here or the premise here.

A thread on the TDM will be required for all applications. Please view the FAQ for information about how this works. Any questions about the game please direct to the comment section of the FAQ as well.

If you are a Drift Fleet alumni bringing your character from the game, please label your character as 'DFAU' on your top level. Also, keep in mind you have complete flexibility on how your character comes here. They could be taken before endgame, after endgame, two years after, one year before, etc. It's up to you! If you want to completely restart your character, they're not considered DFAU anymore and won't need the label.

So go! Explore Agra 10! And, as always, HAVE FUN!

Thread ideas:

Winter in Temba and Sh'Ka
What says winter more than snow?

Lots of snow.

MORE snow.

Indeed. It's snowing. A lot. From one day to the next both Temba and Sh'Ka are covered in snow and especially in Temba these masses of snow may even collapse some of the more damaged buildings, so be careful where you seek shelter.

But the Agrii are trying to help and we all know nothing ever gets weird or wrong when the Agrii decide to help their He-Rows. Two small, vividly colored snowblower drones are doing their best to clear paths along the most used streets of Temba. It looks like one of the Agrii has used their years of observing frustrated He-Rows shovel and magically melt snow wisely. Unfortunately these little drones, despite being equipped with large googly eyes, don't really see what they are doing and while clearing out one street may end up blocking five others as well as the doors to buildings.

And if it isn't the snow itself or the little snow drones blocking you in, there are still the prevailing dangers left by the earthquake that are now well hidden under snow. Huge cracks in the ground are now perfectly camouflaged, so be mindful where you step. You may end up in an icy underground cavern without ever having meant to end up there.

In other areas the cold has a value for a time. The much diminished flood plain soon freezes over enough for skating, until it too ends up in a layer of snow. But that's more easily brushed aside so maybe you can do something with that? Or perhaps it's just better to stay inside, where there is heat and perhaps other people avoiding the heavy blanket that covers Temba.

Sh'Ka is also covered in snow as mentioned before, but it lacks the little snow-blowing helpers sent by the Agrii. So here the paths between places will have to be those you forge yourselves. At least Sh'Ka doesn't have the same issue with ice caverns just under the surface, or with buildings collapsing until the weight of winter's most predictable weather system.

Explore the city Temba!
Here's a map of Temba and a bit more description of some of the buildings here.

Despite having been protected from being destroyed by the volcano itself and unlike Sh'Ka not having been buried in vast amopunts of ash, Temba still suffered notable damage from the earthquakes that came with the volcano's eruption. Previously restored buildings were damaged and others entirely caved in on themselves leaving them beyond any hope for restoration. The streets and paths are even worse to traverse than they used to be but for what it's worth water and electricity are still working. Most of the time.

Needless to say, exploring is more risky these days as buildings may still cave in without warning and seemingly solid roads may crack open to drop anunsuspecting wanderer into underground caves left behind by the quakes.

And yet the city can still be explored. If you are lucky, you might even stumble over The Deep End, the bar located on one of the mid-levels of the tower residences in one of the residence towers. Unfortunately no bright neon signs can lead you there, but it does exist.

RETURN OF THE SHIPS!!
Yes, they are back. Though you may not be aware of it, the ships stored in the hangar have been gone for quite some time, but they have been returned very recently. In a way, at least. What used to be a group of nine smaller ships has become a very shipable pair of brand new, notably larger space vessels and you just may feel compelled to enter one of these two ships to take a look around. The glitter dispensers await you!

Try the network!
The network is back up! Upon arrival, your character will have on their person a small, handheld communications device. Maybe they know exactly how to use a computer, smartphone, or tablet, and immediately blast out a text or video trying to figure out what's going on. Or maybe they're not so tech-savvy after all, and everyone is about to get a lovely shot right up your character's left nostril.

There be storms...
These power-altering storms keep ravaging parts of the planet every once in a while. No one truly knows where they come from or what to do about them yet, but one of them appears to be approaching. You have the option to find shelter in one of the buildings to wait for it to pass. Unless, of course, you rather feel drawn to investigate.

Should you step inside the storm, or even get lost in it, it will show ghosts of people you know and those you don't. It drains you of any super-human abilities and tries its best to keep you from getting to its origin. Are you going to try anyways? Or are you going to chase the whispers of people from your past? Maybe you will simply find yourself calling for help or stumble across another lost soul in need of assistance.

More information can be found here.

Wildcard!
You're welcome to use any previous test drive scenarios or previous game events as a basis for a thread/situation, or simply make up your own! Keep in mind that you're currently stranded on a planet with only basic necessities, but there is enough food and fresh water. Creature comforts, however, seem to be distinctly lacking. Quite unlike a gathering of potentially dangerous creatures to encounter. The setting is yours to explore and have fun with!

[personal profile] bevvitched 2023-12-06 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
[ooc: I'll also match prose if you prefer! <3]

i. Winter in Temba (a

[Daniel was in no way prepared for Suddenly, Snow. Which both meant that he wasn't used to snow this deep and that he wasn't even remotely dressed for this sort of cold. With only a t-shirt, jeans, and sneakers, he was freezing and there wasn't a single magical solution he was aware of to keep himself warm. So instead, he'd been trying to find a warm building to duck into...except a lot of these buildings didn't look very warm. In fact, they looked pretty...dilapidated, abandoned, etc. There was one, a little ways ahead, across the street, that looked like a hotel or something.

The problem that was preventing Daniel from actually reaching the building? The brightly colored little snowblower drone that was currently blocking the street he was trying to step out of. Its mostly-charming-somewhat-unsettling googly eyes shook as it moved, but it wasn't actually...moving very fast. He sighed heavily, snow actively drifting down into his blond hair and to dust his shoulders.]

People always talk about the robot uprising being swift and violent, but this makes a lot more sense. I'll probably be a popsicle by the time this thing is done.

[Clearly, this drone existed because someone had the best intentions in mind, so he couldn't bring himself to be properly angry about it. Was the AI at fault? The robot's ability to see? Some combination of the two?

After eyeing the drone for a minute longer, Daniel started to try to edge around it, which involved an attempt to scale a mound of piled up snow that it had pushed in front of him.]

ii. Winter in Temba (b

[As if being briefly 'trapped' by the snowblower drone hadn't been bad enough, Daniel's trek through the snow wasn't yet finished. There was still enough snow on the ground where he was walking to obscure an uneven section of pavement- which he, of course, absolutely tripped over and fell flat on his face. On the bright side, the snow cushioned his fall. On the other hand, he'd fallen in the first place- and now there were cold flakes in his eyelashes.

Pushing himself up, he did his best to brush the snow off his face--and really hoped no one had seen him fall. Though, considering he was nearly right in front of the hotel, there was a chance greater than zero that someone had witnessed it. He'd worry about that later though, and instead just pushed the door open to finally enter the hotel. Visibly shivering, he pushed the door shut again and tried to figure out what the warmest spot inside was.]

iii. Storms

[To say he didn't know what was going on would be an understatement. At first, Daniel had thought it was just some sort of thunder storm, so he'd ducked into a building that seen better days to get out of the potential downpour.

But then- he'd heard a voice as familiar to him as his own, calling his name.]

Iliya?

[He couldn't help it; he stepped out into the storm. He could barely see anything, but he'd know his best friend's voice anywhere. And then, he actually saw him, Iliya beckoning to him, and of course, Daniel went towards him.]

Iliya- wait!

iv. Network - video

[Daniel still looked rather chilled, though he was at least indoors somewhere with an actual heater. So that was a plus. Better than nothing.]

Hey, so uh. Where can a guy get a sweater around here?

[And gloves...and maybe a hat...just warm clothes in general.]

And how often does weird shit happen around here? I already feel like I've had my head messed with and I'm not a fan.

I. Ships

[See Shaw. See Shaw use her newly-acquired Security expertise to open the door to one of the security centers and... well, not light up, exactly, but her pupils definitely dilate and her mouth curves up in a small half-smile. Ah, yes. This is absolutely what she'd picked the Security Data Point for. Good job, Agra 10.]

Now that's what I'm talking about.

[She breathes, hoisting up one of the glowing guns with her hands, testing the weight and feel of it. And then, practically salivating with anticipation, she heads straight for the shooting range. Sorry to anyone else who might be interested in using the space, but she's definitely going to be here for a while. Care to share?]

II. Network (Audio)

[Lo, it's Shaw's first appearance on the network, after doing a few days' worth of non-contributory stalking. She sounds a little weary, a little withdrawn, and a little more muted than even her usual deadpan affect - but she's making some small attempt to be social, and that's more than she's done since everything fell apart at home.]

Okay, not to complain about the wonders of technology or whatever--

[Absolutely to complain about that, she loves to complain about that; don't even kid yourself, Shaw.]

-- but this crappy faux-food nutri-paste? Not doing it for me. First of all, texture and form and being able to take more than just one bite is a big part of eating, and it shouldn't be overlooked for the sake of efficiency; second of all, who the hell took a look at our limited flavor options and wasted one of them on wheat? Wheat is an important culinary staple, but it's not a flavor. It took me like three days to figure out what it even was. Hey, Agrii? In case you're still taking notes? Pretty disappointed over here. Thanks.

III. Storm

[It's one thing to be told about the storms, but it's another thing entirely to experience them for yourself - particularly when you're caught away from adequate shelter in the outskirts of the city. Shaw tries to hunker down inside a half-destroyed building, but there's no real ceiling and the walls are crumbling and so the wind whips in regardless, battering her and anyone else who might be squeezing in nearby.

It could be worse, she thinks. She has a jacket that cuts the chill, and she's picked up a scarf and a sweater to wear underneath. This is annoying and unpleasant, but she'll make it through just fine.

But then, not long after it starts, she sees them: across the street and down a ways, but instantly recognizable as they walk together. Two men. A woman. A dog.]

Wait!

[Shaw scrambles to her feet and surges forward - out of the ruins, and away from shelter.]

Wait, hold up, it's me! I'm over here!

Conan Edogawa/Shinichi Kudou | Detective Conan

[personal profile] mysteryfreak 2023-12-07 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
{ Whale Comb to Went Her}

[ Waking up in a strange place he definitely didn't fall asleep in is sadly very common for one Kudou Shinichi, or otherwise currently known as Edogawa Conan. Normally, Shinichi would feign sleep a little longer, listen to his surroundings and determine his next move wisely. However, the first thing he's immediately aware of is the biting cold. It spurs him into movement, sitting up quickly and hugging his arms tightly. ]

[ He glances around at a lot of white and tries to find a few landmarks that might shed some light on where he it. It's too cold though and the first thing he needs is a coat of some kind. ]

[ Sometime after he's touched the datapoint he finds himself in the Whale Comb Sent Her where it's much warmer. Terrible weather for shorts and a blazer. Well, now that he's no longer at risk of hypothermia he can start to really analyze his situation. ]

[ He takes a look around the room carefully but he's stopped as he hears someone approaching from the outside. He quickly ducks behind the nearest thing and watches carefully, trying to determine if the newcomer is safe to talk to and how best to approach. ]

{ So. Much. Snow. }

[ It's not that Shinichi doesn't like the snow. He's from Tokyo, and he's taken a number of trips out to Hokkaido; he's used to a little snow. However, after having been caught in that avalanche Shinichi would have to say he's lost his taste for the large snow drifts. ]

[ He mumbles something under his breath and feels his heart jolt in his chest as it feels like the ground is caving in underneath him. Someone nearby might hear his sudden yelp but it's abruptly cut off and Shinichi finds himself stuck in an ice cavern. ]

Great.

[ He can't help but complain as he looks up at his only exit. ]

{ The Brain Words Best }

[ It's probably not great that Shinichi doesn't remember the last time he ate a full meal but he's not exactly worried about that. He's always believed his brain works best on an empty stomach but being trapped in the body of a still growing seven year old meant he had to be extra careful about just how empty he let his stomach get or the repercussions could be... bad. ]

[ He finds the diner with ease and pushes the door open, throwing a little more weight into it than he'd like but it wasn't as if he weighed very much. ]

Hello?

[ He calls out, being sure to use his 'I'm a defenseless little kid voice.' If nothing else, playing the part of a defenseless kid is a great way to get information. And free iced coffee if he's lucky. ]

exploring & snow
There's not a lot that screams 'trying to blend in' from the new arrival (it's harder to do that at six feet tall anyway, but that's beside the point). He wears an odd-shaped beanie, a leather jacket with unique logo and lettering on it, bracelets and rings on each hand, a long sleeved plaid shirt tied around his waist, and finishing it off with boots and dark grey jeans. At least he's not wearing too little considering the snow.

(The minute he gets to the communications data point, he is 10000% choosing that specialty, for the record. Nothing else makes sense to him.)

A couple of the snowblower drones somehow winds up blasting a bit of snow all over him. “Could be worse, I guess.” He says to himself, brushing the snow off his front, and making sure his beanie is snow-free, before continuing on.

Of course, he'll spend a lot of time going into buildings in disrepair and seeing what if anything can be salvaged into something useful in them.

He doesn't plan on making a detour into an underground cave, but when the ground gave way to drop him into one, he'll poke around before trying to get out.

network; video
[ This is the exact look everyone is greeted to when Jughead starts his post. His device is clearly propped up on something off-screen, because there's enough space in the shot to see that he's sitting in the seating area of the diner on his assigned ship, a typewriter in front of him (he's not sure how his from home got here, but he's not complaining). ]

I have a very important question for those of you who are brave enough to answer.

[ He's so overdramatic sometimes. He holds his expression for another moment before softening it, leaning back and letting his hands drop to the table's surface. ]

What's the first song that comes to mind if someone asked you to pick your 'theme song'? One with a theme or lyric you relate to heavily — not to be mistaken for your favorite, probably isn't your favorite. I'll go first, because it's The Beatles's Paperback Writer.

[ Again: Note the typewriter in front of him.

But the question is a fun way to get to know some stuff about people here, which is why he asked.
]

As far as canon points go: keeping it vague for this TL, but somewhere between late s2-and early(ish) s3; in this house, I don't try to pretend to understand anything about Riverdale's p...lot [???] after season 4.)

Hunted

Being plucked away from her life for someone else's cause wasn't entirely foreign to Katniss. Neither was hunting. And since the powers that be had seen fit to leave her bow and arrows, they were now pointed at the first unfortunate soul to come through. Wild eyes stared almost unblinking, string held taut as she called out as firmly as she could manage.

"Where is Peeta?"

Ships | Nightmares CW: PTSD

The screams were hard to miss, even in the larger space these new ships offered. They were screams of absolute terror, abruptly cut off as Katniss woke herself from those memories with a start, panting and looking around with wide eyes as her mind tried to remember she wasn't in the arena anymore.

Snow

Well, if it isn't weird enough to suddenly be pulled away from a perfectly nice, lazy day and dumped on another planet, the purple-furred jerboa/weasel cross has immediately fallen into a huge snowdrift upon arrival. He yells in angry shock, clawing his way back to the surface and spitting out snow along the way.

"What the heck?! What is this place?! And what happened to the Marvelous Queen?!"

He speaks with a Texas accent, for anyone familiar with Earth.

Network Video

After familiarizing himself with the tech, the strange character decides to try it out.

"Hello? Is this thing on? ...

So we've all been kidnapped by these aliens, huh? Is anybody else here from my world? Fleet-feet, Egg-mook ... anyone?

We're not gettin' paid for figuring out what went wrong with the place, are we?" He scowls. "I don't work for free."

Leonardo Hamato | Rise of the TMNT

[personal profile] faceguy 2024-01-18 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
A: Snow Day, Hooray

[Leo was not at all prepared for sudden interdimensional, intergalactic kidnapping, and he was even less prepared to jump from warm weather straight into winter. With only his ninja gear and his naturally reptilian body, he's not exactly in good shape as he wanders the snow, trying to find a building that isn't totally worn down. Jeez, what happened here, anyway? Well, besides all the stuff that data point thing downloaded into his head (that sure was trippy).

He trudges through the snow, shivering, arms wrapped tight around himself as he searches for somewhere safe. And it's about that time that he hears a sudden rumble up ahead.

The snowplow drone would almost be cute, if it weren't headed directly for him.]

Whoa, watch out!

[He barely manages to dodge out of the way, but it doesn't save him from suddenly being covered in snow and slush. Great, fantastic.]

Hey! I'm walkin' here!

[He shakes his fist after the drone. It probably doesn't care, but he feels like the classics must be acknowledged anyway.]

B: Crags to Riches

[His journey to find somewhere safe is not going well. Leo is starting worry that he might actually get frostbite and lose a toe or three. And he only has six to start with!

He's trudging and watching the buildings and not super paying attention to where he's going - not that it would matter, since the opening to the underground cavern is completely covered over with snow when he steps in it.

There's a swoop in his stomach as he finds empty air under his feet, himself tumbling forward.]

GAAAH-

[He doesn't get very far, though, before a blue portal is opening under him, its match appearing over a snowbank a few feet away from the hole.]

AAAAH- oof.

[Well, at least he landed safely. He pushes himself out of the snow, scowling.]

Ah, come on! It is not my day.

C: Echoes of the Past

[Going out in the storm is probably a stupid idea, but when has Leo ever been known for being smart?

But hey, if he's supposed to figure out how to help this world, just completely ignoring the very plot-important looking storm isn't going to get them anywhere, right? That's his excuse, anyway.

It doesn't seem that dangerous at first, anyway. At least he isn't getting whisked up into a tornado or pelted by hail. But then...

At first, he only sees it out of the corner of his eye: hair, and the tail end of robes. He spins wildly in that direction, just in time to see her back retreating into the storm, beyond his field of vision.]

...Gram-gram?

[He starts running in the direction he saw her disappear. But she keeps popping up in different spots, and he turns wildly to keep her in sight. He's getting lost, but he doesn't even care, because...]

Gram-gram! Wait!

[Running and yelling as he is, it's highly likely he may bump into someone else in the storm.]

Winter in Temba
The fountain might have explained somethings, but Cheryl is still left with a lot of questions, and concerns. She's not dressed for this weather, for a start. The red Serpents' jacket helps keep her upper body warm, but her shoes? Exposed toes and heels are doing nothing to assist. She would prefer boots.

She mutters such at one point as she walks around, trying to find a warm building to gravitate to, but so far, all she sees is dilapidated, run down places that offer no safety.

"I didn't know I needed to dress for this!" Yes, she doesn't know if anyone can hear her, but shouting this out is more about the stress relief.

Explore the city Temba!

She was just looking for something warm, safe, and a place to maybe get some food. Cheryl is, even, tired of walking around. She tries to be careful, after all, she doesn't want to step in too much snow. It's cold, and wet, and she's not enjoying it, much.

Of course, no matter how careful, or graceful, she is, Cheryl eventually takes a wrong step and finds herself hurtling downward.

"WHAT! This place has snow traps?!" That's not exactly it, but Cheryl needs to be mad for a moment. She rants at the very sky, annoyed about all of it. She complains about the snow, the wet, how tired she is, and the fact she's actually hungry.

"Don't just pass by!" she shouts at the first figure she can somewhat spy walking above, as Cheryl shouts from the sinkhole full of snow.

There be storms...
"JJ...." It almost seems unfair. She lost her brother, Jason /JJ, once, and to spy the her twin red-head in the pouring rain breaks her heart all over again.

There is as huge chance this isn't him - he's not alive - but who knows what could happen in this place? And what if - just what if - it really is him? She could never deny her twin.

Cheryl starts to head in.

Alec Lightwood | Shadowhunters

[personal profile] stoicandsarcastic 2024-03-18 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Snow;
Alec want unfamiliar with snow, but this was a lot for a guy who came here with only a leather jacket and boots in the way of outerwear. He felt cold down to his very fingertips, making his attempts to draw his stele from his pocket far less coordinated than they should have been. He leaned against the side of a building, trying to get some shelter from the wind, and blew on his fingers to warm them up. So warmed, he had more success pulling the slim tool from his pocket.

(Alec maybe if you didn't wear such skinny jeans you wouldn't have this problem.)

He pushed up the left sleeve of his jacket, bearing his forearm, and traced something against it with the end of the tool. An intricate sort of burn appeared there, and his shivering stopped. A moment later he traced another shape and the burn on his arm — as well as the mark peeking out over his jacket collar — disappeared under the guise of smooth, unmarked skin.

Ships;
Alec wasn't sure what was weirder, the strangely run down town or the apparent spaceship. At least the weather outside didn't seem to extend to the ship's interior so that gave the ship a major point in its favor.

It was rapidly losing the point though. He'd found the kitchen which was great, but the soft serve coming out of the dispensers looked the opposite of appealing. He had a plate and was methodically dispensing the smallest amount he could, just to try so he'd know what he was in for.

On the plus side, he'd eaten worse.

The latest dispenser seemed stuck though... until it suddenly wasn't. A flood of glitter came out, getting absolutely everywhere before he could turn it off. He sighed, indulging in a selfish moment of why me before looking around for cleaning supplies. Hopefully no one would wander in before he could get it cleaned up, or mind too much if it got on their shoes.

"A warlock spell would be real useful right about now," he muttered to himself, then flushed guiltily. He shouldn't let himself think that way.

Network - voice;
[The video clicks on, showing Alec's face for a moment. He vocalizes a soft sound:] Ah.

[The screen goes dark then, video feed cut but audio still running.]

I'm looking for my sister, if anyone's seen her. Isabelle Lightwood. Izzy.

[A bit of an awkward pause, but Alec isn't sure what else he should say.]

Um. Thanks.

OOC: At a Glance;
