WINTER TEST DRIVE MEME

WINTER TEST DRIVE MEME
Application FAQ | Taken Characters | Reserves | Application
Welcome to the Current Test Drive for The Revival Project!
This game is a spin-off from the closed The Drift Fleet game. For more information about the game, including more details on the setting, please check out the FAQ here or the premise here.
A thread on the TDM will be required for all applications. Please view the FAQ for information about how this works. Any questions about the game please direct to the comment section of the FAQ as well.
If you are a Drift Fleet alumni bringing your character from the game, please label your character as 'DFAU' on your top level. Also, keep in mind you have complete flexibility on how your character comes here. They could be taken before endgame, after endgame, two years after, one year before, etc. It's up to you! If you want to completely restart your character, they're not considered DFAU anymore and won't need the label.
So go! Explore Agra 10! And, as always, HAVE FUN!

Winter in Temba and Sh'Ka
Lots of snow.
MORE snow.
Indeed. It's snowing. A lot. From one day to the next both Temba and Sh'Ka are covered in snow and especially in Temba these masses of snow may even collapse some of the more damaged buildings, so be careful where you seek shelter.
But the Agrii are trying to help and we all know nothing ever gets weird or wrong when the Agrii decide to help their He-Rows. Two small, vividly colored snowblower drones are doing their best to clear paths along the most used streets of Temba. It looks like one of the Agrii has used their years of observing frustrated He-Rows shovel and magically melt snow wisely. Unfortunately these little drones, despite being equipped with large googly eyes, don't really see what they are doing and while clearing out one street may end up blocking five others as well as the doors to buildings.
And if it isn't the snow itself or the little snow drones blocking you in, there are still the prevailing dangers left by the earthquake that are now well hidden under snow. Huge cracks in the ground are now perfectly camouflaged, so be mindful where you step. You may end up in an icy underground cavern without ever having meant to end up there.
In other areas the cold has a value for a time. The much diminished flood plain soon freezes over enough for skating, until it too ends up in a layer of snow. But that's more easily brushed aside so maybe you can do something with that? Or perhaps it's just better to stay inside, where there is heat and perhaps other people avoiding the heavy blanket that covers Temba.
Sh'Ka is also covered in snow as mentioned before, but it lacks the little snow-blowing helpers sent by the Agrii. So here the paths between places will have to be those you forge yourselves. At least Sh'Ka doesn't have the same issue with ice caverns just under the surface, or with buildings collapsing until the weight of winter's most predictable weather system.
Explore
Despite having been protected from being destroyed by the volcano itself and unlike Sh'Ka not having been buried in vast amopunts of ash, Temba still suffered notable damage from the earthquakes that came with the volcano's eruption. Previously restored buildings were damaged and others entirely caved in on themselves leaving them beyond any hope for restoration. The streets and paths are even worse to traverse than they used to be but for what it's worth water and electricity are still working. Most of the time.
Needless to say, exploring is more risky these days as buildings may still cave in without warning and seemingly solid roads may crack open to drop anunsuspecting wanderer into underground caves left behind by the quakes.
And yet the city can still be explored. If you are lucky, you might even stumble over The Deep End, the bar located on one of the mid-levels of the tower residences in one of the residence towers. Unfortunately no bright neon signs can lead you there, but it does exist.
RETURN OF THE SHIPS!!
Try the network!
There be storms...
Should you step inside the storm, or even get lost in it, it will show ghosts of people you know and those you don't. It drains you of any super-human abilities and tries its best to keep you from getting to its origin. Are you going to try anyways? Or are you going to chase the whispers of people from your past? Maybe you will simply find yourself calling for help or stumble across another lost soul in need of assistance.

But he looks like he has no idea what Leo is talking about, and then...]
Oh? What oh?
no subject
...you said you just saw me so it shouldn't really be too surprising, right? Our timelines... They're different.
[Donnie knows he probably shouldn't just stop walking in the middle of a storm and with his brother only half-dressed for the weather but it's hard to keep going when he's got so much to think about.]
The last big thing that happened before I got here was our fight with the Shredder- although I'm not really sure I'd call it a fight since we mostly just kind of tried not to die horribly until you and dad got back from talking to Big Mama.
...and then there was our weird camping trip where Todd got kidnapped by evil dentists.
no subject
But Donnie stops in his tracks, insisting their timelines are different - not just that Leo arrived here a year in this planet's future, but... but what?
The big fight with Shredder, right! ...Except no, Leo and Splinter didn't go talk to Big Mama this last time, that was all the way back when...]
Wait, so... so you don't remember Gram-gram? Or Battle Nexus New York? Our second fight against the Shredder!?
[How far back does it go? How much does he not know about?]
What about getting arrested in the Hidden City? Mikey trying to make Draxum our second dad? April learning the Seven Deadly Vipers move!?
no subject
[It's bad enough finding out they have actual relatives outside of their immediate family that he doesn't know but Leo keeps throwing things at him and he can hardly juggle it all. Battle Nexus what now?? Another fight with the Shredder??]
You mean he wasn't- Wait, what... I don't-
[Donnie looks completely lost now. That's way too much information to deal with and it puts so much more into perspective. Just how long has it been? Just what has he been missing?
He pulls away from Leo now, more of a stumble as he presses a hand against his mouth, feeling like he wants to explode, like anything more Leo might say will make him break.]
no subject
Okay. Okay okay okay. They can't both be panicking here. Someone needs to calm down, and he guesses it has to be him.]
Shoot, I'm sorry. [He starts to reach out for Donnie again, then hesitates, because out of all of them Donnie is the least touchy-feely and maybe he wouldn't appreciate that right this second.] That was too much, I got it. It's... it's okay, though, it's gonna be okay.
no subject
He drags in a breath, trying to get a handle on his thoughts but it's like they scatter every time he tries to herd them together. Part of him just feels like bolting right there and then, and the thought of actually leaving his brother after they've been apart for so long twists something in his gut.
Breathe. Just breathe.
Donnie stares at Leo, almost afraid to listen, the words at odds with a thudding heartbeat and his own breaths.
"It's gonna be okay."
He swallows, giving an uncertain nod. He's trying.]
no subject
Leo can’t be sure. Even if it isn’t a panic attack exactly, it’s still not good. He chews on his lip, trying to figure out how to help, what to do.
(Boy does he wish Raph was here.)]
Donnie, you gotta breathe deeper. We need to get out of this storm, and I need your help. Okay?
[Maybe if he gives Donnie some direction, a goal, that will help… or maybe not. He really hopes he didn’t just freak him out more.]
no subject
What'd Leo say before that? Breathe, Donnie, breathe. He tries to slow his breaths, turning to squint down the snow-covered road ahead. Whatever hard work the snowblowing drones had done have long since been rendered pointless, and the winds pick up, throwing white flurries that are making it harder to see.
Which way had they been heading? This is a main road, he's pretty sure of it. If they keep following it they should hit the city square. Yeah. Keep going.
A goal helps, and the storm demands his attention. Donnie grits his teeth, squinting against the frigid wind. He looks back at Leo, reaching out to grab his hand before he turns to start forward again, using his tech-bō to make sure each step ahead of them is a sound one.]
no subject
The wind is freezing and he’s so cold, his mind is still spinning over the implications of his and Donnie’s time differences, and he still has so many questions about this world and what’s happening. Normally his mouth would be running a mile a minute, but Donnie looks like if he has to think about anything other than moving them straight ahead he’ll combust.
So Leo tries to stay quiet. Even though the silence that falls between them makes his skin itch. He never likes quiet, he always wants to fill it up with something. It makes him anxious unless someone is talking.
He’s only able to take it for a few minutes of trudging through the snow and storm before he starts humming. Just one of the musical numbers from one of Jupiter Jim’s Pluto films. It’s a middle ground between talking and silence.]
no subject
He needs his attention on where they're going anyway. The tips of his fingers are numb from the cold but he can vaguely feel Leo's hand still, and that's all he needs to know, that his brother's behind him and they're moving. And then he hears it, the humming. It takes him a moment to place it, the tune familiar as it dredges itself up from his memories. He hasn't watched any movies for a year, but it'd be hard to completely forget those songs. His fingers twitch stiffly around Leo's hand, grasping it a little tighter.]

The shapes of the buildings flanking the street drop away to a more deliberately open space once they reach the square. Donnie takes a moment to get the layout clear in his mind before he's pushing forward again. He'd said the Welcome Center, but the diner has a fireplace and stuff to eat, and they need to thaw off. Plus, it was a little closer.
He has to let go of Leo's hand to get the door open, might take some teamwork for all the snow, but once it's open, he's ushering Leo inside and closing the cold out behind them.]
no subject
He does help Donnie get the door open, but his strength is starting to flag; he is seriously cold. He doesn't know if this is the welcome center or not, and he doesn't really care as long as he's out of the wind.
The second he's inside he thuds back against a wall, all humming petered out. He's panting now, out of exhaustion from walking so long in the cold, with his poor feet exposed. He should probably... check on them, actually...]
no subject
[Donnie winces at the sound of his voice, but he stoops down to check on his brother.]
...I'll be right back.
[He steels himself as he gets up again, leaving his tech-bō propped up by the door as he cracks the latter open. He'll slip outside and close it again just to keep the warmth in. Just...need to go grab some stupid blankets from the stupid welcome center because...he has no idea really but he has many complaints.]
no subject
He doesn't get to say much else before Donnie is back up and headed out the door. He starts to open his mouth, to say that Donnie should at least take his coat back before he goes out there, but Donnie is gone before he can get it out.
And then Leo is alone again.
Okay, not a big deal. At least he's inside. He just needs to focus.
He pulls his feet in and takes a look. Leo doesn't know much when it comes to looking for things like frostbite, but he does know that his feet feel numb and look a few shades lighter green than normal. They don't hurt, but he has a feeling that's going to change as he warms up.
Shoot.]
Great. [He curls his legs underneath him to try and conserve body heat, then lets his head flop back against the wall.] Kidnapped to another planet... turned into a Leo-sicle... gave your brother a panic attack. Batting a hundred today, Leon.
no subject
It's a bit further to the welcome center and he's glad he didn't make Leo walk that much more, not without proper protection, not when he's been wandering for who knows how long already. Leo's the only reason he's not running after every movement he thinks he makes out in the swirling snow.
It takes longer than he likes, but finally there's a thud against the door of the diner, and then Donnie manages to heave it open, stumbling in with his arms full of snow-dusted blankets. He all but dumps them on Leo, turning to get the door closed again, his teeth chattering.]
no subject
Hey-
[Is all he gets out before he is suddenly covered in blankets. He can't lie, that's much appreciated.
He quickly sheds Donnie's wet coat and scarf for the (relatively) dry blankets, wrapping one up around his shoulders and then curling his legs and feet up under it. He looks like a turtle owl. Maybe that could have been April's next meme.]
Thanks! I was almost a turtle-cicle.
[He noticed Donnie's teeth chattering, though, and he nudges some of the blankets.]
Bundle up, buttercup. Heh.
no subject
Oh that's so much better. ...we should probably move closer to the fire, but I think we can thaw out some here, at least.
[Hopefully no one else comes and lets in the cold air before then. Donnie scoots a little closer to Leo, just to make sure he's not going to block the door. Yeah, that's totally it.]
no subject
Now that they aren't at risk of freezing to death in the immediate future, Leo takes some time to look around the space. He remembers Donnie said they were going to a "welcome center", but this looks like somewhere else.]
Where are we, anyway?
no subject
Diner. I figured it'd be warmer. The Welcome Center- or the Whale Comb Sent Her as the Agrii call it, was a little farther and I didn't think it'd be a great idea to keep you out in the snow any longer than necessary. ...that and maybe I can dig up some coffee or something here.
How's your feet?
no subject
He can appreciate not being out in the snow any longer. And coffee. Anything hot to drink would be nice right now.]
They're, uh... [He pulls the blanket back so he can take a look, grimacing.] Well, I think they'll be fine once they warm up, but I'm not looking forward to the thaw out.
[It's gonna hurt. Which is better than being totally numb, but still...]
no subject
Yeah, it's not going to be pretty. But I'll get some water heated up.
[And find some coffee or something.]
no subject
He burrows himself up even further in the blankets, watching Donnie as he goes about his task.]
So, uh... what have you been doing since you've been here? [Is this a safe topic? He hopes he isn't about to freak him out again.] That first... info dump machine, it said something about data points and taking on some kind of job?
[Sure, it put the info directly in his head, but Leo's been a little preoccupied since.]
no subject
He vanishes into the back where the kitchen is, rummaging around for a pot.]
Oh, you know, trying to figure out the solution to the whole problem here- that's why they brought me, right? That's what I figured. The data point neglects to inform us on a lot of things though, like the fact that our resources here are severely limited and all the power goes out when the Storms -capital "S"- hit, making it near impossible to actually track anything down in regards to sources.
[Donnie steps back out around the counter, carrying a large pot of water to set over by the fire. He tosses a log or two onto the flames. Wandering back to the counter, he pokes around at a few thermoses left out, uncapping one and giving a sniff before he caps it again, grabbing a couple of mugs before walking back where Leo is.]
Back to the data points though, there's several of them around. They're kind of cool and at the same time kinda freaky because you automatically get all this know-how for specific things depending on what you touch, jammed into your head? But once you touch another one it all gets rewritten and whatever you learned from the previous one is just gone.
[He settles next to Leo again, opening the thermos to pour some coffee for them.]
Super weird. And inefficient.
no subject
Huh. That sounds trippy.
[So they can just download knowledge about anything straight into your head, but you can’t just use all of them at once? Seems lame. Then again, maybe if you try to cram that much into your head at once it explodes. That’s the logic Leo is going to go with, anyway.
He gets why these Agrii things would want Donnie, in light of this mission. He’s easily the smartest person Leo knows or knows of. But Leo has no idea why they want him all of a sudden.
But he’s glad he can be here, if only so Donnie isn’t alone.
That’s sappy though, and Leo is not sappy, so he keeps those thoughts to himself.]
So if we fix this problem they have, we can go home?
