WINTER TEST DRIVE MEME

WINTER TEST DRIVE MEME
Application FAQ | Taken Characters | Reserves | Application

Welcome to the Current Test Drive for The Revival Project!

This game is a spin-off from the closed The Drift Fleet game. For more information about the game, including more details on the setting, please check out the FAQ here or the premise here.

A thread on the TDM will be required for all applications. Please view the FAQ for information about how this works. Any questions about the game please direct to the comment section of the FAQ as well.

If you are a Drift Fleet alumni bringing your character from the game, please label your character as 'DFAU' on your top level. Also, keep in mind you have complete flexibility on how your character comes here. They could be taken before endgame, after endgame, two years after, one year before, etc. It's up to you! If you want to completely restart your character, they're not considered DFAU anymore and won't need the label.

So go! Explore Agra 10! And, as always, HAVE FUN!

Thread ideas:

Winter in Temba and Sh'Ka
What says winter more than snow?

Lots of snow.

MORE snow.

Indeed. It's snowing. A lot. From one day to the next both Temba and Sh'Ka are covered in snow and especially in Temba these masses of snow may even collapse some of the more damaged buildings, so be careful where you seek shelter.

But the Agrii are trying to help and we all know nothing ever gets weird or wrong when the Agrii decide to help their He-Rows. Two small, vividly colored snowblower drones are doing their best to clear paths along the most used streets of Temba. It looks like one of the Agrii has used their years of observing frustrated He-Rows shovel and magically melt snow wisely. Unfortunately these little drones, despite being equipped with large googly eyes, don't really see what they are doing and while clearing out one street may end up blocking five others as well as the doors to buildings.

And if it isn't the snow itself or the little snow drones blocking you in, there are still the prevailing dangers left by the earthquake that are now well hidden under snow. Huge cracks in the ground are now perfectly camouflaged, so be mindful where you step. You may end up in an icy underground cavern without ever having meant to end up there.

In other areas the cold has a value for a time. The much diminished flood plain soon freezes over enough for skating, until it too ends up in a layer of snow. But that's more easily brushed aside so maybe you can do something with that? Or perhaps it's just better to stay inside, where there is heat and perhaps other people avoiding the heavy blanket that covers Temba.

Sh'Ka is also covered in snow as mentioned before, but it lacks the little snow-blowing helpers sent by the Agrii. So here the paths between places will have to be those you forge yourselves. At least Sh'Ka doesn't have the same issue with ice caverns just under the surface, or with buildings collapsing until the weight of winter's most predictable weather system.

Explore the city Temba!
Here's a map of Temba and a bit more description of some of the buildings here.

Despite having been protected from being destroyed by the volcano itself and unlike Sh'Ka not having been buried in vast amopunts of ash, Temba still suffered notable damage from the earthquakes that came with the volcano's eruption. Previously restored buildings were damaged and others entirely caved in on themselves leaving them beyond any hope for restoration. The streets and paths are even worse to traverse than they used to be but for what it's worth water and electricity are still working. Most of the time.

Needless to say, exploring is more risky these days as buildings may still cave in without warning and seemingly solid roads may crack open to drop anunsuspecting wanderer into underground caves left behind by the quakes.

And yet the city can still be explored. If you are lucky, you might even stumble over The Deep End, the bar located on one of the mid-levels of the tower residences in one of the residence towers. Unfortunately no bright neon signs can lead you there, but it does exist.

RETURN OF THE SHIPS!!
Yes, they are back. Though you may not be aware of it, the ships stored in the hangar have been gone for quite some time, but they have been returned very recently. In a way, at least. What used to be a group of nine smaller ships has become a very shipable pair of brand new, notably larger space vessels and you just may feel compelled to enter one of these two ships to take a look around. The glitter dispensers await you!

Try the network!
The network is back up! Upon arrival, your character will have on their person a small, handheld communications device. Maybe they know exactly how to use a computer, smartphone, or tablet, and immediately blast out a text or video trying to figure out what's going on. Or maybe they're not so tech-savvy after all, and everyone is about to get a lovely shot right up your character's left nostril.

There be storms...
These power-altering storms keep ravaging parts of the planet every once in a while. No one truly knows where they come from or what to do about them yet, but one of them appears to be approaching. You have the option to find shelter in one of the buildings to wait for it to pass. Unless, of course, you rather feel drawn to investigate.

Should you step inside the storm, or even get lost in it, it will show ghosts of people you know and those you don't. It drains you of any super-human abilities and tries its best to keep you from getting to its origin. Are you going to try anyways? Or are you going to chase the whispers of people from your past? Maybe you will simply find yourself calling for help or stumble across another lost soul in need of assistance.

More information can be found here.

Wildcard!
You're welcome to use any previous test drive scenarios or previous game events as a basis for a thread/situation, or simply make up your own! Keep in mind that you're currently stranded on a planet with only basic necessities, but there is enough food and fresh water. Creature comforts, however, seem to be distinctly lacking. Quite unlike a gathering of potentially dangerous creatures to encounter. The setting is yours to explore and have fun with!

Yeah, that reaction? She most certainly is. But Robin's not going to argue about it right now. Instead he smiles at the other woman over her shoulder.

"It keeps doing it though. It's the super power of the snow. My weakness. Stupid snow."

Oh, that's a lovely smile, Cheryl finds herself thinking. Of course, she has Toni, she scolds herself, but that doesn't mean she can't enjoy the company of another pretty person, no? They could end up being friends, maybe.

"Does the snow thwart most of your first meetings? When you fell, is that how you met some people?" Cheryl questions, genuinely curious.

"I met a few people the first time with that, yes," she admits. "Like Felwinter."

The guy could fly. It had been shocking.

"Well, neither of us has had to pull each other out of a snow hole, so I would say this is a far better start," Cheryl offers up with a pleased smile.

"I suppose it is," Robin says as they approach her target building. "You'll manage I think."

They both will, given a chance.

"Of course I will." Cheryl smirks with pride, as if there was never any doubt she would.

"And you will, too." She turns to look at Robin as she adds, "Or, you can always ask for my help. I owe you." And never let it be said Cheryl Blossom didn't pay her debts, even on an alien planet.

"A building," Cheryl says with some relief. "Not quite civilization, but acceptable in the circumstances."

"I don't think you owe me anything," Robin corrects as they reach the door and she opens it. "And it's not just a building. It's a diner. Most meals come from here if you don't cook for yourself."

ANd with that she steps in.

"I need some tea and a hot stew."

"If I think I owe you, I owe you," Cheryl insists, but that's not really how this works, is it? She'll figure that out, eventually. Maybe.

"So, an important building." There's a moment Cheryl looks the diner over, judging it, harshly, unsure if she wants meals that come from it, but when Robin mentions tea and stew Cheryl realizes...that sounds very good right now, actually.

"I'll at least have tea. Wait." She frowns. "How do you pay here?"

If that's how it works, then Robin isn't going to argue. The young woman seems pretty set on it.

"Important like the hotel is, yeah," she agrees as she kicks the snow off her boots and stick. The latter gets set aside before she's heading to where she remembers the kettle being.

"We don't pay. No money on the planet. Guy in charge usually asks for either help in the form of cooking or cleaning, or working the greenhouse. But it isn't obligated. Just contribute to the community in other ways I guess."

Someday, somehow, Cheryl will find a way to repay Robin, until then, she's endeared herself to Cheryl, intentional or not. She files away the information of the important locations. Very useful, for later.

Cheryl's eyes widen. "I am not made for menial labor," she insists, "But I can find ways to contribute. That I can do."

[personal profile] work_wife 2024-04-14 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
That's really up to her. Robin doesn't think it's that important. She is busy checking over the kettle's water status. Then she gets it heating.

"Everyone that isn't physically impairs is made for menial labor. We evolved for it."
blossomingginger: (07)

Wrap for new?

[personal profile] blossomingginger 2024-04-15 03:05 pm (UTC)(link)
"I haven't," Cheryl insists. "But I will make sure to contribute, one way or another."

Sorry, Robin, she's a bit of a prissy princess that prefers bossing people around.
work_wife: maya hawke as robin buckley from stranger things (Default)

Sounds wise!

[personal profile] work_wife 2024-04-15 03:21 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'm sure you will," she says with a shrug before starting on the tea. Just deal with this for now. That's the important thing. Getting the new girl acclimatized.
