WINTER TEST DRIVE MEME

WINTER TEST DRIVE MEME
Application FAQ | Taken Characters | Reserves | Application

Welcome to the Current Test Drive for The Revival Project!

This game is a spin-off from the closed The Drift Fleet game. For more information about the game, including more details on the setting, please check out the FAQ here or the premise here.

A thread on the TDM will be required for all applications. Please view the FAQ for information about how this works. Any questions about the game please direct to the comment section of the FAQ as well.

If you are a Drift Fleet alumni bringing your character from the game, please label your character as 'DFAU' on your top level. Also, keep in mind you have complete flexibility on how your character comes here. They could be taken before endgame, after endgame, two years after, one year before, etc. It's up to you! If you want to completely restart your character, they're not considered DFAU anymore and won't need the label.

So go! Explore Agra 10! And, as always, HAVE FUN!

Thread ideas:

Winter in Temba and Sh'Ka
What says winter more than snow?

Lots of snow.

MORE snow.

Indeed. It's snowing. A lot. From one day to the next both Temba and Sh'Ka are covered in snow and especially in Temba these masses of snow may even collapse some of the more damaged buildings, so be careful where you seek shelter.

But the Agrii are trying to help and we all know nothing ever gets weird or wrong when the Agrii decide to help their He-Rows. Two small, vividly colored snowblower drones are doing their best to clear paths along the most used streets of Temba. It looks like one of the Agrii has used their years of observing frustrated He-Rows shovel and magically melt snow wisely. Unfortunately these little drones, despite being equipped with large googly eyes, don't really see what they are doing and while clearing out one street may end up blocking five others as well as the doors to buildings.

And if it isn't the snow itself or the little snow drones blocking you in, there are still the prevailing dangers left by the earthquake that are now well hidden under snow. Huge cracks in the ground are now perfectly camouflaged, so be mindful where you step. You may end up in an icy underground cavern without ever having meant to end up there.

In other areas the cold has a value for a time. The much diminished flood plain soon freezes over enough for skating, until it too ends up in a layer of snow. But that's more easily brushed aside so maybe you can do something with that? Or perhaps it's just better to stay inside, where there is heat and perhaps other people avoiding the heavy blanket that covers Temba.

Sh'Ka is also covered in snow as mentioned before, but it lacks the little snow-blowing helpers sent by the Agrii. So here the paths between places will have to be those you forge yourselves. At least Sh'Ka doesn't have the same issue with ice caverns just under the surface, or with buildings collapsing until the weight of winter's most predictable weather system.

Explore the city Temba!
Here's a map of Temba and a bit more description of some of the buildings here.

Despite having been protected from being destroyed by the volcano itself and unlike Sh'Ka not having been buried in vast amopunts of ash, Temba still suffered notable damage from the earthquakes that came with the volcano's eruption. Previously restored buildings were damaged and others entirely caved in on themselves leaving them beyond any hope for restoration. The streets and paths are even worse to traverse than they used to be but for what it's worth water and electricity are still working. Most of the time.

Needless to say, exploring is more risky these days as buildings may still cave in without warning and seemingly solid roads may crack open to drop anunsuspecting wanderer into underground caves left behind by the quakes.

And yet the city can still be explored. If you are lucky, you might even stumble over The Deep End, the bar located on one of the mid-levels of the tower residences in one of the residence towers. Unfortunately no bright neon signs can lead you there, but it does exist.

RETURN OF THE SHIPS!!
Yes, they are back. Though you may not be aware of it, the ships stored in the hangar have been gone for quite some time, but they have been returned very recently. In a way, at least. What used to be a group of nine smaller ships has become a very shipable pair of brand new, notably larger space vessels and you just may feel compelled to enter one of these two ships to take a look around. The glitter dispensers await you!

Try the network!
The network is back up! Upon arrival, your character will have on their person a small, handheld communications device. Maybe they know exactly how to use a computer, smartphone, or tablet, and immediately blast out a text or video trying to figure out what's going on. Or maybe they're not so tech-savvy after all, and everyone is about to get a lovely shot right up your character's left nostril.

There be storms...
These power-altering storms keep ravaging parts of the planet every once in a while. No one truly knows where they come from or what to do about them yet, but one of them appears to be approaching. You have the option to find shelter in one of the buildings to wait for it to pass. Unless, of course, you rather feel drawn to investigate.

Should you step inside the storm, or even get lost in it, it will show ghosts of people you know and those you don't. It drains you of any super-human abilities and tries its best to keep you from getting to its origin. Are you going to try anyways? Or are you going to chase the whispers of people from your past? Maybe you will simply find yourself calling for help or stumble across another lost soul in need of assistance.

More information can be found here.

Wildcard!
You're welcome to use any previous test drive scenarios or previous game events as a basis for a thread/situation, or simply make up your own! Keep in mind that you're currently stranded on a planet with only basic necessities, but there is enough food and fresh water. Creature comforts, however, seem to be distinctly lacking. Quite unlike a gathering of potentially dangerous creatures to encounter. The setting is yours to explore and have fun with!

[ Cheryl seems to consider that for a moment. ]

And what kind of alien ball would you play? I'll be cheering you on.

Probably something crazy like combining volleyball and basketball somehow. Why not get weird with the mashup?

Cheryl toys with a lock of her hair, then gives Chrissy a serious look.

"That has promise. Definitely something with nets and balls." A pause. "Maybe people with nets have to catch the balls?"

“So more like lacrosse but with more chaos, I like it. Then maybe they have to toss the balls into a second net or over a second net.” They could really unleash chaos here if they brainstorm something good, honestly.
blossomingginger: (13)

[personal profile] blossomingginger 2024-03-03 03:00 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yes. More chaos," Cheryl agrees, then she considers the next part.

"Or, over a net into a net." As in, do both. She gives Chrissy an appreciative smile. This other cheerleader really does seem to speak her language.

And probably not just in silly games to occupy themselves. They could plot out more things and make whole messes. “And because this is alien sportsball, maybe each score is worth five points? One is too basic. And it needs a super catchy name.”
blossomingginger: (08)

[personal profile] blossomingginger 2024-03-10 02:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, if Chrissy needs to sow some chaos, Cheryl is down. She just doesn't know anyone here but Jughead, and she doesn't want to isolate him. And Chrissy and Robin - so far - seem like decent people.

"Five points is good. Maybe if you get over the first net you get three. The second is your five point mark." As for the name....

Cheryl's eyes roll up to consider it.

"Netball? Balls and nets.... Netsball." None of them have the pizzazz she's looking for.
ephemerios: stratfords @ dw (020)

[personal profile] ephemerios 2024-03-11 04:01 pm (UTC)(link)
“That idea for points is so much more fun, oh my god, I love it. I would ask where people like you who entertain silly but fun ideas have been all my life but the answer is probably on an alternate earth where it's not the 1980s.” Everyone here not from Hawkins that she thinks is fun is from those places, after all.

“And I was going to say something like Netball, but man.” It really doesn't have the pizzazz or chaos they need. “Netsketball? The aliens here call us He Rows because they try their best with our language, so maybe we use something like that, but also worst case we just post on the network asking for ideas from everyone else.”
blossomingginger: (13)

[personal profile] blossomingginger 2024-03-17 01:04 pm (UTC)(link)
"1980s?" Yes, Cheryl, different time periods is surely the weirdest thing you've heard since arriving. "I'm from the twenty tens. Late twenty tens." She studies Chrissy over with a shake of her head. "What the 1980s needs to do is spit you out to the future. Then we can have a much better time. You definitely don't belong there."

She can't help but genuinely laugh to realize they both considered Netball. Cute.

"He Rows, huh?" She bites her bottom lip for a second then spits out, "Net Skit Bowl," while writing the words in the sand to show Chrissy the actual words she's aiming for.

"Or, yes, we can ask the network." She doesn't sound as into the idea of asking everyone else, but because Chrissy suggested it, she'll entertain it. That's how much she's liking the other cheerleader already.

“The future would not know what to do with me.” It is an amusing thought, though. (She would also love the aesthetics of Instagram and TikTok if she knew about those and got to experience them.) “I couldn't even make it out of nineteen eighty-six alive, so the future would be like, me flailing around and obstacle course-ing my way through who knows what.” She's probably not giving herself enough credit, because if she can handle alien planets, she can also probably do the late twenty-tens just fine.

She nods at the words in the sand as she speaks. “No, this is good - forget the network.” If people don't like it, they can deal with it!
blossomingginger: (08)

lol, omg, sorry, I switched to quotes for no reason

[personal profile] blossomingginger 2024-03-26 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
"No, it wouldn't," Cheryl admits with a giant grin, "but that what makes it even more fun! You get spat out there and instant chaos. And I'll be your guide, and you'll be fine."

Cheryl's cheerful expression falls as she reaches over to put a hand on Chrissy's arm.

"What do you mean didn't make it out alive?"

With Net Skit Bowl figured out, Cheryl can focus more on this revelation.

❤️❤️

“Well, that does make it sound a little better. Things would go sideways fast without a tour guide.”

Especially after the Upside Down came to town here and she found out about everything, she's more open about what happened to her back home than most people might be; she may or may not spit out every detail, but the very basics are things she won't be hiding. She sees it as her way of taking back the control that was taken from her, using the knowledge she didn't have back home, and putting what time she has here to perspective and best use. “But, Hawkins is weird. Like, comes-with-a-being-that-traps-you-in-a-psychic-connection-with-it-and-kills-you-in-it weird.” Yes it sounds insane, because it should be. And yet.
blossomingginger: (11)

...also laughing typing out these sentences

[personal profile] blossomingginger 2024-03-28 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
"I will totally be your tour guide, for fashion, makeup, accessories, and all things social media related," Cheryl solemnly - too solemnly for the conversation - promises.

Cheryl shakes her head, disturbed an individual who could have that much control over a group. At least to that level, to the point your mind is invaded.

"That's more than weird. That's the Twilight Zone swallowed your town weird."
ephemerios: cornballer @ dw (148)

hahaha I love this for us (and them)

[personal profile] ephemerios 2024-04-11 03:42 pm (UTC)(link)
“You need a cool badge for all those titles, really.” Listen, it makes sense, ok.

“But yeah tell me about it. I didn't know anything really about what was happening there until I got here. Sometimes ignorance is bliss, sometimes it smacks you right in the face and everywhere else. Hopefully your place isn't that messed up?”
blossomingginger: (15)

Yesssss | cw: death and suicide mentions, plus fucked up parents

[personal profile] blossomingginger 2024-04-12 12:15 pm (UTC)(link)
"I don't have a badge, but I already have a shirt," Cheryl assures Chrissy. "Head Bitch in Charge. It's back home, of course, but I'm covered."

Cheryl frowns as she considers home. "I can't say Riverdale is as bad as your place, but my father killed my brother, and my mother definitely had part to do with my father committing suicide after we learned the truth."

Cheryl looks down after admitting that. It's just common knowledge back in Riverdale, it only occurs to her after she says it that people here didn't need to know. Still...it does give Chrissy an idea of what Riverdale is like, for Cheryl, at least.

[personal profile] ephemerios 2024-04-12 04:02 pm (UTC)(link)
“We need to make you that shirt here, then. I'm sure the replicator could handle it.” It wouldn't be her exact shirt, of course, but it would be *a* shirt that said HBIC. That's the important thing, probably.

At the rest, though, she reaches out to offer her hand a reassuring squeeze. She didn't mention a second brother or sister, so that sounds like her whole family either dead or complicit (in degrees of implicitly and explicitly) in death of the others, so that sounds like too much for one person to deal with. “Sounds like we both need a our-towns-and-families-are-questionable-at-best hug.” Questionable was putting it mildly, but Chrissy's own family wasn't the murdering each other type at least, so somewhere the word maybe balances out both ends of the extremes and covers it all.
blossomingginger: (09)

[personal profile] blossomingginger 2024-04-13 12:04 pm (UTC)(link)
A HBIC shirt is a HBIC shirt, and Cheryl will gladly take it.

"I need to see this replicator, then. Because yes, I should make myself one for here."

She squeezes Chrissy's hand back, her eyes glassy from recalling how Jason's end and how long it's been since she's had to go without her brother.

She nods her head to the suggestion and admits, "I know we just met, but I feel a kinship with you." Cheryl goes in to start the hug, her arms going around Chrissy.

[personal profile] ephemerios 2024-04-13 05:32 pm (UTC)(link)
“Likewise,” She agrees, giving her a tight hug (but not too tight). “So I guess that means you're going to wind up being my new best friend here.” And that, she means it, with a small laugh. She loves all her Hawkins friends, really, but outside-Hawkins connections are good too since she sometimes gets too much in her head about thinking that her presence is just one more dead Hawkins person here (there's too many of those in general).

“Hopefully this place will be a bit of a break for you too, where no one you hate shows up and you can get space from things at home that you need space from.” Because that's mostly what it's been for her here (aside from those aforementioned moments and certain events being brought in with the storms here), and it's been so nice.

Can wrap for new things?

[personal profile] blossomingginger 2024-04-15 03:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Cheryl enjoys that hug for a moment, then pulls back, smiling once more.

"Likewise, you're my alien planet best friend." Everyone needs one of those, including of the, 'Not from home' variety. Because Cheryl does have Jughead - and this planet can pull him from her cold, dead hands - but someone from outside of those memories is imperative.

"So far, it's a...break." Break is one word for it, at least. Maybe time apart from the expectations of home will do her some good, even if she, painfully, misses her girlfriend.
ephemerios: cornballer @ dw (104)

wrap time! 🎀

[personal profile] ephemerios 2024-04-15 06:48 pm (UTC)(link)
When she pulls back, Chrissy offers another small nod and smile. "I'm glad." Sincerely, on both counts, she means. This is going to be good, for sure. "And now we have a new game to plan out how to tell people about so we can use our skills," She says. Which they can go off to do once Cheryl gets more of her bearings around her here.
