[Event] The Secrets of the Warrens

Once More Into The Depths

The zombies have not even begun to let up when a voice comes in amid the clamor around and behind the barricade. It rattles like bare branches whipped around in a powerful storm. A voice that some may know from soft conversation, and others from a potentially awkward trip to the mines.

Of course it leaves the question of how the Wanderkin got back here. Last anyone remembered it had headed back out into Temba, and no one had seen it come back over the barricade. But there it was, calling out.

“Come, friends. The littlekin are ready for you. The storm grows more powerful above. There is no more time.”

In fact, looking upon the creature reveals that there are little Funfronds around, smaller than the normal ones. They climb throughout the Wanderkin’s form, glowing faintly in the dimmer light of the area. They dance careful little dances of excitement, repeating ‘come along’ over and over.

A careful retreat will need to be staged, but with time and care it will be quite possible to withdraw to the door that the Funfronds have, once more, opened for the He Rows. This time, though, there are far fewer Funfronds there to guard and to guide. All of them, to those with the most careful of gazes, will seem rather young or particularly old. How strange.

Once more the Funfronds will race ahead down the stairs, through rock and into metal, down into the depths of the Warrens. They dance along the vines, they rush through crevices cut into the metal itself when they reach the proper depth. There is not nearly enough light to guide He Rows along the way, only that from the caps of the Funfronds, from faintly glowing patches of moss, and from any tools or powers the He Rows may have to hand.

The trip is still a lengthy one for those who have walked it before. This time there is no snacks with the pause taken two hours into the descent, but it makes sense. There seems to have been less time, and Funfronds, to prepare for this trip. Worse than that is the fact that for some reason, as the He Rows go deeper, the power draining ability of the storm starts to reach them again. That said, it strangely doesn’t seem to apply to technology in the way it traditionally does. Talk about mystery.

Finally, three hours after the door opened and the Funfronds and Wanderkin chivied the He Rows down the stairs, their destination is reached. The stairs have given way to twisting metal corridors and the corridor finally joined into this large, open space. Those who have been here before will recognize their shelter during the volcanic eruption, and may even see signs of the improvements they helped make before or even things they may have left behind. Apparently the Funfronds have changed nothing.

Only once everyone is in the space does the Wanderkin move forward into the center of the space and look upon them all.

“The littlekin seek to apologize,” it announces in its unnervingly human-like speech. “There was hesitation to offer shelter as it is the sporing time. There are places off of the higher corridors in which they go in this time to bring forth a new generation, and to the misfortune of many this wrong storm rose as their fruitful fellows had gone into this place. It is the duty of the sproutlings and the spore-dry to guard their spaces at that time.”

Some of the Funfronds dance sluggishly about the Wanderkin, apologizes offered and nervousness conveyed.

“This small group, they have elected to surrender their duty to bring you to safety and assist you. It is This One’s understanding that many have been here before. This One has been asked to say that food will come more easily as the littlekin have convinced their hive-fruit-friends within the Hive of Metal and Glass to go into your zoo of tamed plants to bring down food. For them it will be quick, as they will not need to bring food from the distant Hive of Stone and Heights.” The timing of the information is nearly flawless, because as the Wanderkin finishes that note the vent from which Barrys once came with a supply of regular food for the He Rows last summer opens, and already they are pushing and pulling baskets through.

“The littlekins do this as a favor to you, who have been their friends, and for This One, who has come to learn from you all. And they do this in fear. None of us have seen a storm that leaves such fear in root and stem and leaf before. Something has changed. This One will speak with the littlekin to determine why this has happened. Perhaps This One will go back up to see if This One can find the end of the storm. It is not yet decided. But here, at least, there will be safety.”

Its head pivots one way and then another, looking around to see each He Row in turn. To consider them. To consider their moods. Then its ‘shoulders’ of twisted twigs and branches sag a little.

“The littlekin fear the surface of the Hive of Metal and Glass may be lost. Too many wrong things of stone and soil and meat roam. They say there is more of them than there are leaves in a forest. And there are many leaves in a forest. But effort will be made, an answer must be found. You are animals who need the sun and air. You are not like Funfronds, this will not appease for long.”

With its piece said it curls up into a ball. The Funfronds around it rush closer, some climbing into the tangle of wood before it rolls off down a corridor that opens off of the main area. Those Funfronds that remain behind, often the youngest, look to the He Rows, especially those that they know can speak with them, and dance questions of how they can help from here.

And that is the question, isn’t it? If what the Wanderkin is implying is correct, then who knows when the storm will end. Or if it ever will.

Which is of course the heart of the matter. Something that has always been the heart of the matter. The He Rows were brought here to help the Agrii, to give them their home back, to stop the storms. Yet no level of investigation has ever gotten them closer to that goal.

And yet…

There was something off about the Warrens the last time the He Rows were here. The strange shape their twisting corridors took for one thing. The water and heat pipes that are protected by force fields for another. The strong metal that only seemed able to be cut by Funfrond, and of course, the security doors.

Perhaps it is time to find a way past them and find out the deeper secrets of Agra-10. Who knows, maybe the answers were below your feet this whole time. And what would it hurt? After all, if the Wanderkin’s concern for the worst case scenario of the storm not ending comes true, it would be useful to have more space to expand into, right?

Besides, locked doors are interesting, right?

FAQ
What are the dates of this event?
November 10th through the end of November.

Does the end date mean the storm will end?
Yes it does. In fact, it’s time for the He Rows to see to that question once and for all. It’s time for the He Rows to find the source of the Energy Storms. Exciting, isn’t it? Our belief is that this should only take the space of November to accomplish because once the He Rows get past the first major obstacle things are going to get a LOT easier, though it’s going to take some trial and error.

Can we opt out of this underground exploration?
Of course. Any character that doesn’t want to run the risk of getting lost in the deeper part of the Warrens will be welcome to stay in the large common area and the corridors and rooms off of it. Even those characters that are going to join the deeper exploration part of the plot are welcome to return here for rest and recovery and plan making. They are, after all, going to be down here for a while.

I’m bringing a character back from hiatus or bringing in a new character. What happens with them?
They will appear upon their arrival/return in the central area of the Warrens where people previously resided.

Do powers work down here?
Once He Rows reach the open area where the Wanderkin speaks they will find their powers work again, but only weakly. In certain areas this restriction may grow either stronger or weaker, and that will be listed below in the relevant sections.

Does the Network work down here?
At first, no. Communication devices will function in all aspects except for the Network at first. Expect this to last no more than two days, if even that. Once the primary team accomplishes their first objective they will have the option of doing a few small tasks that will allow them to re-enable part of the Network. At that time it will become possible to do audio network posts, direct audio links, and to send one-to-one texting. There will be no video or group texting during this event. Only audio and texts sent to what amounts to a character’s inbox.

Alright, you’ve teased us enough, are we really going to get past the security doors this time?
Thank you for your patience. Let’s open first with the subtitle of the event: Storm Stoppers. The goal of this event is for the He Rows to explore the previously blocked portions of the Warrens to find the source of the energy storms and disable it. This absolutely will be possible and not only that, it will be achieved. That said, the system behind the storms is complex so there will still be an echo of the storms for a time, but they will be more along the lines of the sort used in the TDM posts, and the scattered and small ones we have had this year. And with time, even those will come to an end.
After this event we will have our normal chill December, fun focused January, and then move into a new phase of the game.

What is beyond the security door?
Ultimately a maze with multiple branching paths. One part of this maze will be used by the first exploration party who bring with them the Smooolsher (and will be making use of some of the charges). This party was previously arranged as part of a player-led exploration with two of our players. The lead player on this exploration will manage arrangement of this team, which may already have been completed by the time this event is posted. This team will take the first steps of exploration, heading deep into the sealed portions of The Warren for two days before finally something changes. This will be when the Network comes back into partial use.

After the departure of the team the Security door will close behind them, and further along their path of exploration a bulkhead will seal behind them. This will render the area inaccessible until the second day after the team’s departure. On that second day the security door will unlock once more and paths into The Warrens Maze will be opened. Characters will be able to form teams to head two hours down the initial corridor before they find the first of the splitting paths that will lead deeper into the Warrens and the secrets hidden there.

There’s a Maze?!
Oh no… we feel another story section coming on…

The Secrets of the Labyrinth

The forward team has sent back a warning that it’s likely to be a long trip if you step into the limits of the Labyrinth. Stocking up from what you brought and what the Plantkin have provided seems wise. Who knows if your planty friends will dare to trek so deep with you, much less whether they will find good points of access to distribute supplies to you through. What’s more, the forward team can’t guarantee that they’ll be able to find a way to help you get back out of the Labyrinth once you start into the depths if parts of it choose to close behind you. They will do their best, but preparation will be your friend here.

Once past the original security door barrier it takes two hours to walk to the first junction. Here the metal corridor splits into three clear paths. To the left a force field and bulkhead block access, likely preventing any new He Rows from trailing after the forward team. Perhaps it’s for the best, as going down that path would be redundant. Directly before you and to the right the passages continue on, with clear signs that they too have bulkheads that could close. Who knows if they have force field protectors of their own. If they do, if they close, then you might not be able to turn around until your mission is completed. Until the secrets of the Warrens Labyrinth are fully unlocked.

Continue forward at your own risk.

Thankfully the first people past the doors will not find their ways barred behind them. Not yet that is. Go straight on or go right, the choice is yours. And each of those paths will continue on for another hour before their own options are presented. Three options apiece. Three open bulkheads. Three paths. All told six ways that He Rows can continue their exploration and truly enter the depths.

Hopefully you’ve brought a method to track your progress, because from here on things will only get more complicated. For once a team passes into each specific branch, a bulkhead will seal behind them, locking them into their own portion of the continuing twist and turns and confusion of the Labyrinth. Unfortunately for the teams entering after the forward team, there is more than just confusing paths to face.

Someone or something does not want you to make it to whatever the heart of these branches of the maze secret away. Traps, fights, and dangers will await you in your journey to the heart rooms of your mazes. He Rows will need to work together to survive in these all important chambers, making use of their skills, experience, and yes, even powers in many cases. Remember to stay cautious, and work together He Rows, because more than just your lives hang in the balance. That of all of your fellows in their own explorations depends on you. Because until at least four heart rooms are accessed and their secrets dealt with, no one will be able to get back out.

Who among you is brave enough to dare the depths? Who among you is confident enough to face the dangers and finally find the answers to some of the deepest secrets that Agra-10 has posed to you all since day one?

And can you survive long enough for you and your fellows to unlock enough to win your way back out?

FAQ: Part Two

How many characters can be involved with the maze?
That will depend upon player choice. The minimum number we’ll need excluding the Forward Team is eight He Rows. This is because you need at least two He Rows per path to manage all of your obstacles and get to the end (because you will want to play them out more likely than not), and at least four paths must be completed for the Forward Team to have their final path unlocked to finish the puzzles under Agra-10. The minimum is by no means the only option of course.

Before we determined how many paths there would be we asked ourselves ‘based on how many players are in the game, what is the minimum number of paths required to make sure every player has a chance to send at least one character into the Labyrinth (excluding those characters that are in the Forward team). Based on the current player count our best estimate to make things work was 6 paths with two characters apiece would enable the best chance for everyone to get at least one foot into the event.

That said, teams can be composed of more than two people. We figure three is a reasonable limit on a team size to best allow threads to flow smoothly. So that puts the upper limit on the Labyrinth part of the event as it stands to be eighteen. Between this and the Forward team of four to five characters, we’ve got a range of characters that can engage in this maze ranging from twelve to twenty-three. With a current cast of thirty-one He Rows in the game, we believe this will allow for a chance for a lot of characters to get their toes into the water here if players want that. It is our hope that not all characters would want to head into such a dangerous situation, and that some might want to keep the Warrens Base in good condition or might be content with using the Network to support the exploration teams.

If players find that this number of paths is not nearly enough to cover all interest in exploration, we will find a way to open more routes. So please, head into the sign-ups below to form your teams of two-to-three He Rows. If you want involved but do not have a specific team in mind, we also have a ‘please RNG me a partner for the event’. Mod Churby has agreed to keep Reeve Tuesti and Gladiolus Amicitia back for RNG assignment until at least the 15th of November to make sure there are options just in case.

How do we sign up for exploration?
Below you will find a comment labeled ‘Exploration Teams’. There are a few levels below this that are mod comments. The first comment is labeled ‘Route Claims’. This will have six mod replies to it with a subject line with a number. When you have finalized your team of two to three He Rows have one member of your team reply to the first empty number comment. This will place a claim on one of the routes for your team. The number does not matter at this point beyond tracking how many paths remain open.

The second comment under ‘Exploration Teams’ is labeled ‘Roll Me A Team’. Reply to this comment if you want to have a randomly assigned team. The first roll of this RNG will be performed on Monday, November 11th using any characters currently present and the held back characters from Mod Churby if there is need. Be aware that except in instances where it will lead to two characters from one player, these RNG teams will default to three characters. Once a team has been rolled it will automatically be assigned a route by mods using the method above. Additional RNG rolls will be run after that every three days as needed.

The third comment under ‘Exploration Teams’ will be labeled with ‘Success Report’. After a mod comment confirms your route claim and the thread for that route is frozen, your team should decide whether you wish to be successful or not in reaching their objective. One member of your team should report their results with a comment here, including their team’s route number. Remember, a minimum of four teams must succeed for the event to end, so glance to see other results posted before adding yours. Once two failures have been claimed all following teams will be taken as automatic passes. After four passes have been claimed any following reports can choose either result.

Players are also welcome to use the comment section of this post for plotting and putting out their own requests for people to join their character specifically.

How many characters can we have exploring?
This will ultimately depend on how many players express interest in the event. At first we ask that players limit themselves to two characters in the Labyrinth (including the one on the Forward Team if they are with that team). This limit means that, as the game currently stands, we have exactly twenty-three slots if each of the Labyrinth exploration teams does a full three characters. That said, we do understand that some people may not wish to explore with two characters, or even with one. So if we still have open slots in the initial exploration paths after Wednesday, November 13th we will allow a third character in the Labyrinth for any players with three or more characters.

What if all the exploration paths are filled before the 13th and I didn’t manage to get into one or want another character exploring?
If the slots fill up (whether with two or three people teams) before that point and there is still more interest we will open additional paths to allow for more exploration. If this happens we will make an OOC community post announcing that and refer you back here to continue signing up. Because, frankly, we want to offer as much involvement as players are interested in. The reason it is currently limited is because each core room will unlock two things: advancement on the path to stopping the Storms, and the unlocking of additional information. We currently have four information drops finalized and two more pending if all paths are taken and completed. Additional information drops can be prepared from the secret lore, but we will only do this if needed.

That said, to try and ensure more characters can access the Labyrinth, we ask one other thing. If you are sending two characters into the Labyrinth and they are both not on the Forward Team, make sure you send them on teams with at least two different players. For instance, if Player One plays characters A & B and Player Two plays characters C & D, we ask that you don’t make an exploration from A&C and B&D without having an additional player involved. And that player should not be the same in both cases if you’re adding a third to both. Spread yourselves out as much as you can.

Six information drops, huh? Clearly it’s a coincidence that there are also six datapoint isn’t it?
Oh Yes. Definitely A Coincidence. Nothing To See There Or To Read Into It At All. ^_^

So do we receive our information when we sign our team up?
Nope. You see, it’s entirely possible for your team to fail. Whether it does so or not is ultimately the choice of the players on the team, but four teams must complete their objectives to ensure the event ends. All successful teams will return with an information storage device with their data, but the results of that data will not be shared with the players until the Forward Team completes their task. This is another way that the two types of team are interconnected. The Forward Team unlocked the route for the Labyrinth Teams. The Labyrinth Teams will unlock the way forward for the Forward Team and gain information they cannot process yet. The Forward Team will complete their final task and return with a way to make use of the Labyrinth Teams’ data. All interconnected, like glorious parts of a machine. Or parts of a computer program.

Later in the event there will be a post providing a summary of all data gleaned by all teams. We hope you enjoy.

How does the Labyrinth exploration work?
He Rows will head into their sections of the Labyrinth and once their claimed group has all gone past their bulkhead door, it will slam closed behind them. From there they will continue forward for about a half an hour worth of walking because the real maze unfolds. And yes, we really do mean a maze. Characters will be faced with paths that twist back and forth over each other. Occasionally there will be small rooms of a good size for He Rows to take a breather, rest, or do anything else they need to do.

As they explore it will be advisable for them to find some ways to keep track of where they have been. Options for this are as numerous as your characters may think of, and can include use of the communication devices to create maps. In fact, the Forward Team might even be able to help you out with the Network up on providing a means to create and share your own maps.

At least twice during a team’s exploration they will run into a security door or force field barring their way. They will need to reach out to the Forward Team to request help in taking this particular obstacle down, but these interactions can be handwaved. However for the Forward Team to do this task He Rows will need to have kept a reasonable map so that the team knows where to look into things from their side to get things open.

Anywhere from two to six times during an exploration leading up to the goal room, He Rows will be met with an obstacle or challenge. How often is up to the players to decide, but we do suggest at least one obstacle/challenge per member of the team.

At last, if the team ‘succeeds’, they will enter a large room that is clearly their goal.

What sorts of obstacles and challenges will we face?
Now here’s where your creativity, and ours, come in. Players are allowed to create their own obstacles and challenges based on any media they’re familiar with. Do you want the cliché swinging axe blades or textured floor that if you step in the wrong place shoots darts or flames? Go for it. Or maybe you want some sort of puzzle door that can only be opened by finding pieces scattered in small rooms and alcoves, and even then the puzzle pieces need ‘solved’ in some way. Is the obstacle of your dreams a door you can hack through with your mad skills? Do it. Are you the sort that wants some sort of acrobatic puzzle over a pit of lava where you have to get to the other side to send over a bridge for your partner? We love it and you should do it.

The only rule we require is that at least one puzzle in each route must be set up to emphasize the skills of each member in the team. Say your team is made up of someone who can fly, someone with high intellect, and someone with no powers but with really good combat skills. Well, one of your obstacles or traps needs to be solvable primarily by one of each of those characters. Such as a flying obstacle course, a complex puzzle, and a room that releases little metal droids into it that need to be fought through. Team obstacles are welcome too, but you should have at least one puzzle that puts each person on a platform for success. And isn’t it wonderful luck that you happened to have those people on your team?

To that end, yes, teams can have obstacles that benefit from someone having a specific datapoint to define your challenge scheme.

And if you don’t have any ideas at all? There’s a comment thread above for requesting obstacles, traps, and puzzles. Let us help you fill out your adventure. But know that we’re going to try and give you something that encourages all members to participate or showcase their abilities as a general goal. If you need ideas for a specific character on the team, you will need to specify that.

What is the goal room like and what do we do there?
He Rows will eventually reach a large door unlike all the others. There will be a lot of strange writing carved into it. Characters who have been in the Mines Observation Room or the Blinking Light Tower will recognize the shape of the language’s characters from those locations. Anyone with Communications or other specialized language skills will be able to read the contents which will amount to ‘Secondary Control Location’ followed by a string of numbers that seem like some form of coordinate system.

To enter the room all members of the team will need to put their hand against the control panel by the door. This will bring the panel to life. Elsewhere the Forward Team will receive a notification and be able to finally open this door, so long as the hands remain on the control panel. The doors will slide open and a room nearly as large as the main room in the Whale Comb Sent Her will be revealed. And it will be filled with computer systems, most of which are behind what seems to be glass. What seems to be glass and will prove to be as indestructible as the walls. In the middle of the room will be one larger and accessible system.

He Rows will be informed by the Forward Team that they have two tasks in this room. The first is to retrieve a glowing crystal from a hidden panel low on the device that can be accessed either with hacking the computer, tearing it open with some form of enhanced strength or leverage using a tool, or by smearing blood (or the equivalent for non-biological He Rows) on the edges. This is the information dump and will need brought back for decoding.

Finally, the He Rows must find a way to disable this computer system. Powers/abilities/datapoint expertises may be used to this end. However please note that if destructive methods are used, the room will start to flash with red warning lights and the console will explode within two minutes of the lights going on. The more destructive force is visited upon the system, the sooner it will blow. The explosion will hit a lot of the room. If you want more input on that or on other methods of disabling the system available to your specific team, please ask below.

Can we use the Network while in the Labyrinth?
Absolutely. Remember that the limited Network access was restored before He Rows could access the Labyrinth. In fact, this is a really useful thing to do. Some characters are likely to not be in the Labyrinth at all, and with the use of the Network both they and the Forward Team may be able to help you handle your area. You can check up on friends, get advice/support on a puzzle/challenge, or just complain about what you’re going through. At least one character with a Medical Background will be staying back, and if a character on your team becomes injured, reaching out to them (or other medics by direct texts) via the Network to talk you through stabilizing your partner(s) may be vital. Sharing of maps may also prove to be rather useful.

Why would sharing maps be useful?
Those on the Exploration Teams keeping detailed maps and sharing them between themselves will eventually find that of the six maze areas, there is repetition. In fact, Routes 1 and 4, Routes 2 and 5, and Routes 3 and 6, have matching layouts to each other except in location and style of obstacle/challenge areas. So while it’s not one-to-one perfect, teams can help each other find the way when they are lost if they know enough.

Can we use our powers/abilities in the Labyrinth?
Oh yes, absolutely. There are some specific limitations though. When in a challenge meant for one specific character’s power/ability, the powers/abilities of other characters that could solve/bypass the challenge won’t function. If a challenge’s theme is passing a thread through a conch shell and you have Daedalus in your party, the person who can phase through solid objects isn’t going to be able to phase through the shell to achieve the victory and allow them to continue to pass on.

Powers also will never allow characters to leave their maze section, be it by teleportation, phasing, or cutting your way out. This includes getting through bulkhead doors and force fields. You are in your maze and you aren’t getting out until four core rooms are accessed. Sorry, that’s just how it goes.

At the end of the day, if you’re not certain if a power is reasonable in a situation, ask and we’ll help you figure it out.

Help, someone on my team got injured!
If there is no trained or expertised medic on your team, your best solution is to turn to the Network. Message either the designated Medic In Waiting (Tae Takemi), or any other medic/doctor/medical expertise He Row that you know of. They will hopefully be able to guide you through patching someone up. And yes, if by some chance you have a power related to healing (or still have some of those potions from Eorzea), they would be useful in stabilizing.

My team did not bring enough supplies. What do we do?
First and foremost, unless you specifically want to play with this, it’s okay to assume your characters entered with enough of the right supplies for several days of exploration. If you really want to deal with problems, we can help you figure that out. We also have a character with some magic powers, maybe reaching out to them for some distance support might not hurt (and yes, magic conjuration of supplies will be acceptable).

What about people that stay in the core Warrens area? What can we do?
Other than socializing with each other, He Rows can use the Network to check in on their friends and support them. Or you can try and find out more from The Wanderer, who will be in and out through the event. Setting up a forward camp in the initial corridor past the Security station is also possible. This could be especially useful if some teams decide to have ‘failures’. These forward placed He Rows could potentially head in to rescue the injured once the fourth core room is accessed.

What happens after all of the Labyrinth exploration is completed? It doesn’t look like it would take more than a handful of in-game days.
He Rows will return to the Central Warrens area. During this time they can rest, recover, and discuss what they went through and the data recovered. Basically any general ‘pass the time’ things you want to get up to.

How does this event end?
The final details will be revealed late in November, once things are flowing. We can say that the outline of it will involve the Forward Team accessing the master control for the Energy Storm system and starting a shut down process. How exactly that goes will depend on how many teams succeed, and how much destruction they will be doing to their computer/console point in their core room (which is why we can’t share it until we have a better idea of what players will be up to). And, eventually, the plantkin will explain that the storm is blowing out and will guide He Rows back up into the Mine so that they can return to the surface.

You covered a lot here, but I think you missed ____.
We always miss something, and with an event as complex as this it’s even more likely. Reach out to us in the comments below to help us clarify things for you.

For any powered items that weren't working in the storm (for example, I had it so that the quintessence powered functions of Keith's Paladin armor and bayard weren't working)... will those items get their power and functions back in the Warrens or Maze in the same way that other powers came back?

What’s the temp like in the mines and later in the maze? Is it getting colder as they go deeper? Hotter? Staying the same?

Sooo... Is it possible for a character to have refrained from entering the mines up until this point?

Asking for a friend.

So for Leo’s task, I was thinking of giving him a sort of logic/social game puzzle where he has to talk to a trio of holograms and determine which of them is telling the truth about how to progress and which ones are lying.

I’m not sure if that sort of thing would be feasible with the plot you’ve set up. Would such an AI hologram would be possible? Would it look like an alien or a human (or some other thing)?

I do have an alternate idea if this won’t work so no worries if it doesn’t. I’m just trying to set up something that might get some of Leo’s confidence back (lol).

Hi I'm late

If a character has an ability but not the necessary equipment, would their task present the equipment needed? I.e., Alec is an archer with no bow/arrows, would he happen to find one in proximity to a tall that happens to need his skill? What would happen to the equipment after the task?

Note that it doesn't matter to me what the answer for Alec specifically is, as he has other skills that I can leverage for his task. But I'm using him as a specific example of a more general question: for a character who doesn't have the kind of inventory/equipment here that he'd have "back home", would his task accommodate that? And by extension, what happens to that equipment afterwards (in the Alec example: if he found a bow could he keep it or would it break/disappear after the task)?

Forward Team

[personal profile] tempredmental 2024-11-08 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
So far, we have Cayde (Aya) and Tony (Bear) joining Keith (Sailor G) on this team. We have TWO MORE SLOTS. We can go with a group of four if we only get one additional person, but five would be better (and more opportunity for another player to be involved). Specialties we already have are Pilot (Keith) and Communications (Tony). Cayde refuses to use a Data Point. LOL.

So~~! That said. Who would like to join the lead team for the plot?

I offer Hargrove for this. He's got the Pilot data point, but he does have an axe.

Edit: If he can be promised he'll get piloting back IC'ly, he'd probably change his DP to something maybe

Better Edit: Billy is gonna get the security datapoint while he's with Soldier in their thread pre-Warrens, so he'll have a gun to combo with his axe.

Lookie here! First plotting post. I win a cookie, right? Right?

Individual comments will be posted for the characters, though Gladio and Reeve will be in limbo for a bit because of their utility to mods purpose for this event.

Tae Takemi - Not Exploring

[personal profile] butterfly_kiss 2024-11-09 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Tae gets to go first because her actions are the most planned for. She's not a woman made for mazes. She will be restoring her clinic from the last Warrens event to as much function as is possible and will be doing a lot of work there.

In addition, once the Network is up and the whole situation with the exploration is revealed, Tae will be volunteering to stay behind. She feels her best duty would be being back and accessible at any hour needed to do audio consults on emergency medical care.

She also has a secret set of self defense items created by Donnie and Wesker that she is keeping on her, in case the murder shenanigans continue. So she wants to stay back to help anyone who might be assaulted here.

Tae will be available for texting or threads staying back in the Warrens Community zone.

Robin Buckley - Not Exploring

[personal profile] work_wife 2024-11-09 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Robin will be staying in the Warrens area as well. While she might be intellectually a match for the maze, she's going to be nervous about going off without friends, and given Eddie and Billy went off without them, she's going to see if she can't stay behind and talk Max Mayfield into staying with her to keep Max out of danger. (Ironically Max is staying behind to protect Robin.)

She has Little Bear with her, so there is a nice doggo that wants to be everyone's emotional support dog, so she's going to be helping people with happy friendly dog who wants pet and to play fetch and tug of war. Help her keep the pup entertained.

She's also going to do a network post once it's back and give people her tips on how to handle mazes derived from books she's read. It's probably not going to be useful.

Tommy Shepherd - Exploring

[personal profile] doubled_speed 2024-11-09 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
First and foremost: at the time of posting this, Tommy is looking for an exploration team. I would really prefer it be one that is a three person team. I can do a two person, but if you don't think you can handle a three-way thread, maybe pass over him for the moment. I'll make a new Tommy comment if this changes.

Tommy is MEANT FOR THIS MAZE. Especially since down here it will let him keep going and he will have powers. He's happy to carry supplies for his team, and if they are out there longer, he's going to handle cooking.

The best team for Tommy is one where they aren't as likely to be annoyed if he worried about his boyfriend and his brother being out there (because they probably will) without him. A great way to get him on a team with people he might not know as well is to have the other two already going and about to enter their area and he speeds in just before the bulkhead closes. But I'm happy with anything.

His challenge room is definitely going to be some sort of moving puzzle where he's got to solve a dangerous trap room, especially if his partners have some higher point of view to help him come up with routes on the fly.

Radley, Knuckles, and Sephiroth

[personal profile] crystalmaster 2024-11-10 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
Radley - Probably Staying Back

Radley is very tired from fighting zombies for a month and he's concerned about the ones staying behind. He will want to see that they have some protection, so he will likely stay behind, cook, and try to monitor things on the Network.

Knuckles - Exploring

Knuckles is raring to go. He wants to find out what's going on. He would do well either with punching through things or with disabling/outsmarting booby traps, as he designed many booby traps back home on Angel Island.

Sephiroth - Exploring

Sephiroth is determined to help get to the bottom of things. I really want him to have a challenge involving either flying or fire, but lean towards flying. I love his wings.

I'm fine with either two-person or three-person teams for them.

Max Mayfield

[personal profile] madginger 2024-11-10 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
As much as the fiery ginger would like to go full force into this, she's going to stay behind with Robin, whom she's very concerned for, in the Warrens. Helps Robin will be wanting to talk her into it, anyway, and she's not telling Robin she's staying behind to play body guard for her.

If anyone wants to leave anything with her, feel free.

She'll be checking out the street names from San Diego Billy carved into the Warrens when he was last there, and probably carving some things herself to add to it, probably coming up with games to play, if anyone wants to join her in that.

As a personal note, I will be very slow with tags during this time, so if anyone is okay with that and still wants something? Let me know and we can do something slow. Otherwise, we can always handwave, or do something next round.

Leo Plotting

[personal profile] faceguy 2024-11-10 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
Leo is definitely joining a maze team, probably with his bro. If anyone wants to join as adult supervision (or non-adult supervision), feel free to comment! Leo has portals and sword skills, and he's fairly fast (in a non-superhero kind of way), so he has some pros to bring to the team!

I may be making an open post for pre-maze times if anyone wants to talk to him before he goes inside.

Two characters on my roster...

The Soldier;
Superhuman levels of strength and speed, and trained as a to assassin. This guy is strong and tough and — unfortunately — pretty taciturn. That being said he's a great guy to have in an exploratory situation and/or anywhere there's a need to put something durable between danger and more squishable characters. Not sure who would be interesting to pair with him but he will be heading into the caves. Ready challenge for him are anything involving brute strength or other superhero action movie type shenanigans.

Alec;
Essentially a half angel, he's been trained as a Soldier since childhood but his primary weapon is the bow and he doesn't have it here. He might get a backdated post at the very beginning of the descent into the warrens where he's using rune magic to reinforce the barricade, if anyone wants to witness that. Otherwise he'd make a decent team member for exploring the caves given that he can enhance his own physical abilities with runes. A fun challenge for him would be some kind of puzzle involving needing those runes, but I'm going to have to give that more thought.

The Caveat;
I can't be a fast tagger. I can't even pretend to be a fast tagger. My guys would need to be on teams with people who can also accommodate a slow pace, otherwise I'll just disappoint you. If you're looking for someone who's more fast paced for a lot of action, I'm not a good choice.

Billy & York

[personal profile] playingtough 2024-11-11 05:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Billy Hargrove is taking a spot up on the Forward Team, though I was thinking about having a pre-exploration section for him if anyone wanted interaction before he gets pulled into that.

York could be on a maze team if need-be, and while he does have Engineering as his data-point, he's also an android that's capable of mapping out things. He'd probably have some sort of circuit style puzzle (all I can think of is something like this, with a timer).

Got a Jedi with engineering here. Up for heading into the maze but also have no issues with hanging back to offer support for those staying behind.
