Spring 2025 TDM

SPRING TEST DRIVE MEME
Application FAQ | Taken Characters | Reserves | Application

Welcome to the Current Test Drive for The Revival Project!

This game is a spin-off from the closed The Drift Fleet game. For more information about the game, including more details on the setting, please check out the FAQ here or the premise here.

A thread on the TDM will be required for all applications. Please view the FAQ for information about how this works. Any questions about the game please direct to the comment section of the FAQ as well.

If you are a Drift Fleet alumni bringing your character from the game, please label your character as 'DFAU' on your top level. Also, keep in mind you have complete flexibility on how your character comes here. They could be taken before endgame, after endgame, two years after, one year before, etc. It's up to you! If you want to completely restart your character, they're not considered DFAU anymore and won't need the label.

So go! Explore Agra 10! And, as always, HAVE FUN!

Thread ideas:

Spring in Temba and Sh'Ka
Spring is a wonderful time where the world wakes up and plants come back to life and animals return from hibernation or migration. Which means the cities are coming back to life. All over both there are young shoots slowly reaching to the sky, enjoying the light and promising to be lush and lovely in the future. Those with sharp eyes will see small creatures that look like dancing mushrooms or spear armed berries. They are shy around new people, though, and likely will seek somewhere to hide away from those who look for them.

There are also frequent rain showers out of sunny skies. The rain is warm and refreshing in a way that brings to mind glacial rivers and fresh mountain springs. It's pure, perhaps purer than anything you've ever experienced back home. They bring life and growth, but also hope. The buildings around the city almost seem cleaner after showers pass, and the sky a little bluer.

In Temba great flocks of sheep like creatures with glowing wool rove over freshly paved streets, pausing here and there to graze. Bright and colorful birds fill the trees as well, moving through the area like they belong. Once or twice you might even see a small mushroom or berry seeming to... ride them? What in the world is going on there? Perhaps someone can answer that question for you, if you wish to ask. Meanwhile in Sh'Ka there is a very different sort of outburst of life. In the area known best for its stone trees there are now flowering vines slowly working their ways up the monstrous growths. They smell faintly of honeysuckle and cucumber, and the local Deleons seem to very much appreciate their presence. The quarry too seems to, slowly, be filling up with clean, fresh water. Maybe, in time, a new lake will form. For now enjoy the chance to splash around if you wish.

Explore the city Temba!
Here's a map of Temba and a bit more description of some of the buildings here.

The city streets of Temba are in large part relatively newly paved and sturdy. Some areas that seem less traveled may show signs of a large machine currently working on doing new work, which is a good sign of progress. Unfortunately the buildings around these roads are not always in as good of condition. Some look like they could topple at any moment. Better to be careful and perhaps avoid walking into places that don't look very stable. But the intact buildings have running water and electricity, so you'll probably be okay if you stick to those.

And yet, in spite of old damages, the city can still be explored. If you are lucky, you might even stumble over The Deep End, the bar located on one of the mid-levels of the tower residences in one of the residence towers. Unfortunately no bright neon signs can lead you there, but it does exist. Or perhaps you won't wander so far from the fountain and you'll find yourself in the Diner, or checking out the mostly intact and increasingly decorated space of the Hotel where many He Rows live. Or, if you wander a bit farther northeast you might run into...

Explore the Ships!
He Rows new and old can make use of the massive hangars in the northern part of Temba to access the shuttles that will carry you up to the currently orbiting Glitter Food and Peanut Party. When He Rows are off the planet, these serve as their homes, their bases of operations, and their vessels all in one. Each He Row has a room assigned to them on their ship, one only they can access. There are also spaces for workshops and labs, for cooking and growing things, and even, shockingly enough, a large green space with trees, grasses, ground covers, and even a large lake with sand leading on toward it. It shares a wall with the fake aquarium that makes up a wall of a bar like the Deep End. So it's a great place to go swimming provided you remember to wear something. All in all there is a massive ship to explore, and maybe you'll even meet your crew mates there. Plus the view of the stars from the dome in the middle of the green space is breathtakingly beautiful. Perhaps even the best view of stars some people have ever had the chance to see.

Try the network!
The network is back up! Upon arrival, your character will have on their person a small, handheld communications device. Maybe they know exactly how to use a computer, smartphone, or tablet, and immediately blast out a text or video trying to figure out what's going on. Or maybe they're not so tech-savvy after all, and everyone is about to get a lovely shot right up your character's left nostril.

There be storms...
One of the first things a new He Row learns about upon arriving on Agra-10 (by means of touching a tempting glowing orb) is about the energy storms that ravaged and damaged the planet. The brave work of past He Rows in the Fall of 2024 has led to the diminishing of these storms. But just because the machines that were creating and sustaining them have been shut down does not mean that the last gusts of their power cannot be felt from time to time.

The weakened remnants of these power-altering storms blow over parts of the planet every once in a while. And sadly one of these last gusts of misery seems to be approaching. You can tell from the darkened sky and the flickering of electronics. You have the option to find shelter in one of the buildings to wait for it to pass. Unless, of course, you are caught unaware.

Should you wind up inside the storm, or even get lost in it, it will show ghosts of people you know and those you don't. It drains you of any super-human abilities and shuts down all technology and magic in its area. Are you going to seek the relative peace of the indoors? Or are you going to chase the whispers of people from your past? Maybe you will simply find yourself calling for help or stumble across another lost soul in need of assistance. One thing is for sure, this micro storm won't last long, no more than an hour at most, but it will be an experience like few others for the time that it is there.

More information can be found here.

Wildcard!
You're welcome to use any previous test drive scenarios or previous game events as a basis for a thread/situation, or simply make up your own! Keep in mind that you're currently stranded on a planet with only basic necessities, but there is enough food and fresh water. Creature comforts, however, seem to be distinctly lacking. Quite unlike a gathering of potentially dangerous creatures to encounter. The setting is yours to explore and have fun with!

"You really can. All that artificial stuff sucks," Tommy notes.

With David in Tommy closed the door. And then, well, he's across the kitchen in a superhuman burst of speed, opening a cabinet door and pulling out the large waffle iron. And again moved in the blink of an eye to set it on a counter as well as a number of mixing bowls that a normal person might swear appeared from nowhere.

Superspeed, always fun to deal with for strangers, right? Tommy liked to get it out of the way quickly, to shake off any nerves.

A big, sticky puddle of 99% plastic sounded like it would really hit the spot about then, but David quickly gave up on any defense of his suburban palate. The guy in front of him was moving as though in stop motion, or not really moving at all, or time was wrong, or David was just seeing things again, and he had to squeeze his eyes shut, then rub them hard with his knuckles until they were sparking white behind his lids. Even then, he kept his hands pressed there, mouth set in a grimace while he tried to centre himself, remember his meditation and connect to something real that he could feel. Not the utensils starting to rattle in the drawer, those were too real, those were getting a little loud.

When the utensils started to rattle the sound was just real enough that Tommy turned to look at the drawer. With more caution, and more normal human speed, he walks to the drawer and slowly pulls it open.

"Please no bugs. Please no bugs," he mumbles as he does so, one hand up in the air as if he could use it to defend himself.

By then, a soft sibilance had started behind him, easy to miss under the jangling of the silver. There were too many voices now, and David was trying to drown them out, whispering to himself, Stop it. Stop that, under his breath before they got out of hand. Ultimately, he knew the sharp, 'Ssh!' was too loud and external, and hopefully by the time the chef turned around, alerted to the noise, David was neatly poised, hands pressed together as if in prayer in front of him, and smiling innocently. "Hm?"

From the drawer, a spoon shot upward, embedding itself in the ceiling.

Thing is, he totally could have grabbed that out of the air. Perks of super speed. But sometimes it's more telling to let people moving things with their mind just move them. Sometimes it tells you just how they're doing it. So he leans back just enough for the spoon to miss him. Then he looked over to David.

"So are we talking telekinetic, ferrokinetic, magic, or something else entirely? I've worked with all three of those in the past, so I'm just trying to get a scope on what I should be expecting to fly about if you, I don't know, get a migraine or something."

David's hands pressed more firmly together, his smile flattening in tension as he let out a long, beseeching breath, one leg starting to bounce anxiously. Come on, man. "The waffles?" he asked.

Tommy grimaces like he's been corrected on something, then gesture to the iron.

"The iron needs to heat up. The mix will take me seconds. But you're right. I shouldn't pry into other people's powers. But so you know, you're safe with me. I'm a speedster. Took me some time at first to get my powers under control. No judgement. Safe space and all that shit."

Plenty of people had assured David that he was somewhere safe, and could share what was on his mind without judgment, and the odds that this was actually true were mostly dogshit. 'Speedster' did explain the blinking around, at least, if the designation could be interpreted literally, and David could accept at face value that this was a thing people were. He didn't see a lot of other options, and it was better than seeing things that weren't there, so while he still looked wary, the tension that stood out on his neck and made his head throb did recede. He's lying to you, David. "Ssh!"

David cleared his throat and bit his lip like he could take back the hush after the fact, eyes rolling again to search the room for something else to talk about before he had to explain it. "I guess you're not worried..." he found, tips of his fingers tented together then and brought up to press to his chin, "Nobody here to find out."

"There's plenty of people in the city. A lot less than, say, a busy department store," he puts forward with a shrug. "No one has ever begrudged me my powers though. But no, I'm not worried. In my family there's two ferrokinetics and two witches. And while I haven't made friends with people back home that are telekinetic, I don't have anything against them. Or any other powered person. Provided they aren't using those powers to hurt others."

Oh, the guy could also be a jedi. Fuck, Tommy needs to stop thinking about things only in terms of his world.

"I won't judge you for being worried, though. Life gets like that. People are assholes sometimes. They make it difficult."

While a lot of the designations that the waffle chef had presented did sound like something he would hear in the lab at Summerland, 'witch' was a new enough one that his eyes narrowed, then rolled their search along the ceiling again, trying to decide if he was supposed to laugh at that. The delivery was awful, if so.

"I'm a good person," David could at least promise, with what might have been confidence, or desperation. He never meant to hurt others. "Some people, though..." he shook a finger, tapping an edge of frustration on the air, "they do ruin it for the rest of us." He managed to detach himself from the spot that he had been rooted to then, still staying alert, but moving along the wall to consider a place where he might be able to sit.

"Tell me about it," Tommy laughs, shaking his head. "Worst part about being a mutant isn't even the racists. It's the mutants that seem to really want to prove them right. Which also sucks because they have a reason to be lashing out. There's no winning."

Then in a blink he's gone, and a wind rushes through the room. And just like that, there's a bowl of batter prepared.

"Iron's almost hot enough. Like any fruit with your waffles?"
