[He is a little vexed at having demands made of him, but he does so love the chance to brag.]
I was on the track of an infinity stone, the aether, when my paths crossed with another who searched for it for his own uses, Malekith, the leader of the remaining Dark Elves. He wishes to use it to poison Yggdrasil and plunge the Nine Realms into darkness. I convinced him that I would be amenable to such a plan, and due to my recent exile from Asgard, Malekith accepted that his enemies were also my enemies and accept my aid, though he did not fully trust me. [Loki gives a cheeky smile.]
Though as it turned out, neither of us found the aether; instead a mortal stumbled into its hiding place, and the mortal happened to be none other than Doctor Jane Foster, the woman my brother Thor loves. The aether entered her body and she took it back to Midgard with her, and before I could do anything, Thor whisked her off to Asgard to figure out what could be done to save her!
Malekith wished to attack Asgard and seize the aether immediately, but I told him to wait, and that I could deliver it to him with no trouble or risk to his people. He allowed me to attempt to take it, though he secretly put his own attack plans into motion as well.
I traveled to Asgard and tried to get Doctor Foster and Thor to come with me to the Dark Elves' homeworld, though before I could succeed, Malekith launched his attack. That did work in my favor, as Thor was convinced of the threat and that Malekith would withdraw from Asgard once he sensed the aether had left it. The offered chance to remove the aether without harming Doctor Foster was likely also decisive for both of them.
Once we had arrived on the barren world, we only needed to wait for Malekith to return, though Doctor Foster found an escape route to Midgard during the wait which soon proved invaluable. Once Malekith returned, I handed the two over to him, seemingly rendered helpless, so he could draw the aether out of the doctor.
[Now he gives a smile that has quite the nasty edge.]
Of course my brother's helplessness was feigned, and once his love was free of the aether we dropped the ruse and attacked. Malekith was furious, and while he managed to retreat with the aether, he ordered half his soldiers to remain and deal with us, particularly me. A choice which also worked against him in the end, as their focus on me allowed me to act as a decoy while Thor and Doctor Foster escaped to Midgard.
[He spreads his hands.] I defeated all the soldiers alone, as you can see, and Thor and the mortals foiled Malekith's plans for the Nine Realms.
