Summer Test Drive Meme!

Welcome to the Current Test Drive for The Revival Project!

This game is a spin-off from the closed The Drift Fleet game. For more information about the game, including more details on the setting, please check out the FAQ here or the premise here.

A thread on the TDM will be required for all applications. Please view the FAQ for information about how this works. Any questions about the game please direct to the comment section of the FAQ as well.

If you are a Drift Fleet alumni bringing your character from the game, please label your character as 'DFAU' on your top level. Also, keep in mind you have complete flexibility on how your character comes here. They could be taken before endgame, after endgame, two years after, one year before, etc. It's up to you! If you want to completely restart your character, they're not considered DFAU anymore and won't need the label.

So go! Explore Agra 10! And, as always, HAVE FUN!

Thread ideas:

- Explore the city! There's a map here and a bit more description of some of the buildings here. Most of the buildings are run down and have clearly been abandoned for years; fortunately, the water treatment center appears to be working, but power is intermittent and unreliable. The hotel seems to be the most crowded, but you might want into what appears to be an abandoned storefront and find someone else scavenging or even sleeping.

- There are spaceships! That's right, there are currently several small spaceships grounded in the hangar. They appear to have power, but only one ship will let you enter. (For test drive purposes, the ship that will let you enter is up to you, so just pick whichever name appeals, and go for it!) The other ships won't open for you, but it might be worth poking around the one that will...

- Do you hear a storm? A giant, power-altering storm has been ravaging part of the planet for a month. It shows ghosts of people you know and those you don't. It drains you of any super-human abilities and tries its best to keep you from getting to its origin. Are you going to try anyways? Or are you going to chase the whispers of people from your past? More information can be found here.

- Can you hear me now? Upon arrival, your character will have on their person a small, handheld communications device. Maybe they know exactly how to use a computer, smartphone, or tablet, and immediately blast out a text or video trying to figure out what's going on. Or maybe they're not so tech-savvy after all, and everyone is about to get a lovely shot right up your character's left nostril.

- Wildcard! You're welcome to use any previous test drive scenarios or previous game events as a basis for a thread/situation, or simply make up your own! Keep in mind that you're currently stranded on a planet with only basic necessities, but there is enough food and fresh water. Creature comforts, however, seem to be distinctly lacking...

Not going to work. Andy wrenched the axe out of its sparking housing and jabbed the handle as it flung free toward the knees of this jailer. What the fuck was that? Something stopping her from cutting his head off, anyway. She slammed two more times against it in quick succession, walking him back and out onto the--sand, ocean nearby, tropical hot, humid, near the equator, probably an island. She brought the axe back up with a growl to swing down hard toward his head.

Fuck! Billy scrambled back and out, half stumbling in the sand, and he pushed the magic to strengthen that barrier with wide eyes that squeezed shut fearfully.

"Wh-! Stop!," he panted, "Stop. I'm not- I didn't bring you here-"

This thing wasn't budging. The axe had never bounced off of something like that. This fight was going to have to come from behind. With only the briefest flicker of a question in her eye, Andy used the momentum from the axe flying back to spin herself to the side and drop low, kicking a leg out to take the guy out at the ankles. "Try again," she suggested. First person she saw, knew she was brought, that was more than Andy knew. Asshole couldn't even lie right. Couldn't be alone.

"Wh- ow- !" Billy crumpled with the kick, that magic briefly dispersing as he swore. This kind of fighting really wasn't his strong point, and whoever this was, she was a hell of lot better at it than most people.

"Elsewhere," he panted, and he seemed to disappear in a flash of blue, reappearing a few feet down the beach palm raised again.

"I don't want to fight-"

With a growl, Andy lurched up to grab the guy by the hair and bash him repeatedly into the nearest rock, only to grab at nothing, eyes widening, and head jerking in the direction of the movement up the beach. Either whatever had knocked her out in the first place hadn't quite worn off yet, or something was really wrong. For the time being, she accused, "What kind of pimple on Hades' left nut are you?" as she drew herself up to her full height again, axe leaned at her side and touched to the sand, fingers a loose, ready hold around the grip.

Breathing heavily, Billy arched a brow at the creative use of language.

"Uh...I'm Billy. Hi." He offered a tired wave, sitting heavily in the sand. "I'm not what brought you here- they took me too- They took all of us. You clearly have some uh...some skills they think will help."

So Billy just stuck around, doing whatever 'they' wanted of him. Sounded stupid, whether it was a another bad lie or the truth. Andy was prepared to announce this as her cue for departure, only to narrow her eyes, risking a glance around without keeping Billy pinned down, and eventually asking, "Who's 'us'?" If the rest of the team were here somewhere, she still had work to do.

It wasn't like he had a lot of choice, but she'd find that out for herself soon enough.

"Everyone else they've taken. There's six ships, so-" he gestured back to the craft they'd stepped off of- "I dunno where all the others are exactly. We only stopped here for a few days, this isn't even where they usually keep us. Are um...are you from Earth?" he ventured.

[personal profile] makhomai 2020-08-02 06:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Six ships didn't mean anything. Billy seemed to know plenty and nothing at all. Andy really wanted to know what he meant by 'keep us'. Instead, they stared at each other from across the sand, this little boy talking about nothing and not wanting to fight, and Andy standing still with her axe in her hand, and Andy said, "What."

That wasn't a question she had been asked before. Variants of it, maybe-- 'are you human?' was a discussion that went around the team every few decades. From Earth, though, that was a given, Andy thought.

"Um...well, just...not everyone is here, and so my normal opener was 'you aren't are Earth anymore', but then people who didn't know what Earth was were kind of lost, so I'm trying to find a new approach..." He explained, seeming to know he was likely pissing her off more with each word that fell out of his mouth, and he took a half step back.

"We've all been kidnapped by aliens..."
