Summer Test Drive Meme!
Welcome to the Current Test Drive for The Revival Project!
This game is a spin-off from the closed The Drift Fleet game. For more information about the game, including more details on the setting, please check out the FAQ here or the premise here.
A thread on the TDM will be required for all applications. Please view the FAQ for information about how this works. Any questions about the game please direct to the comment section of the FAQ as well.
If you are a Drift Fleet alumni bringing your character from the game, please label your character as 'DFAU' on your top level. Also, keep in mind you have complete flexibility on how your character comes here. They could be taken before endgame, after endgame, two years after, one year before, etc. It's up to you! If you want to completely restart your character, they're not considered DFAU anymore and won't need the label.
So go! Explore Agra 10! And, as always, HAVE FUN!
Thread ideas:
- Explore the city! There's a map here and a bit more description of some of the buildings here. Most of the buildings are run down and have clearly been abandoned for years; fortunately, the water treatment center appears to be working, but power is intermittent and unreliable. The hotel seems to be the most crowded, but you might want into what appears to be an abandoned storefront and find someone else scavenging or even sleeping.
- There are spaceships! That's right, there are currently several small spaceships grounded in the hangar. They appear to have power, but only one ship will let you enter. (For test drive purposes, the ship that will let you enter is up to you, so just pick whichever name appeals, and go for it!) The other ships won't open for you, but it might be worth poking around the one that will...
- Do you hear a storm? A giant, power-altering storm has been ravaging part of the planet for a month. It shows ghosts of people you know and those you don't. It drains you of any super-human abilities and tries its best to keep you from getting to its origin. Are you going to try anyways? Or are you going to chase the whispers of people from your past? More information can be found here.
- Can you hear me now? Upon arrival, your character will have on their person a small, handheld communications device. Maybe they know exactly how to use a computer, smartphone, or tablet, and immediately blast out a text or video trying to figure out what's going on. Or maybe they're not so tech-savvy after all, and everyone is about to get a lovely shot right up your character's left nostril.
- Wildcard! You're welcome to use any previous test drive scenarios or previous game events as a basis for a thread/situation, or simply make up your own! Keep in mind that you're currently stranded on a planet with only basic necessities, but there is enough food and fresh water. Creature comforts, however, seem to be distinctly lacking...
Iroh | Avatar the Last Airbender
It certainly seemed that the city had seen better days, and was now in a state that was far from its prime. Iroh wandered the streets, occasionally peaking in various storefronts in search of others, and in search of perhaps something to eat, water, or perhaps even a nice cup of tea. The hotel would have been nice, but unfortunately at the moment, he found himself with no means of securing a room, and little chance of finding the funds for such a luxury. Luckily he had become quite accustomed to finding refuge in the most unlikely of places.
Do you hear a storm?
Storms were not something that would generally bother Iroh, the rain was a much-needed thing for the land, and the energy of the spirits had to be set loose in one form of another. However, it was still somewhat unlike him to wander out into one as he was now. But he had heard a voice, one that had not spoken for many years, one that weighed heavily on his heart and conscience. The figure that he followed looked to be a soldier, one that was in his prime and resembled the old man.
"Please wait, I wish to speak with you."
Unfortunately, though he would not have the chance as the spirit faded, followed by a blinding flash of light as lightning struck.
Can you hear me now?
What a magnificent device. To be able to send messages to one far away so rapidly and reliably.
[Iroh might be a little too close to the camera, his face filling the entire frame and slightly out of focus.]
And for it to capture such a realistic painting and send it as well, how marvelous a thing. It would have certainly made all those long trips from home much easier and would have helped to keep in touch with old friends.
Or perhaps to reach out and find new ones.
Can you heaaar me
It is pretty convenient. Ah, you might want to pull back a bit there, sir. You don't have to hold the device so closely.
I take it you're new to this kind of technology?
no subject
Hello! Yes, I have never seen anything such as this. If you wanted to send a message you had to send a messenger hawk or hire a carrier to deliver whatever news you had.
It would take days or weeks for a message to reach its destination at times.
no subject
[Cal smiles, giving him a nod now that it's easier to see the other's face.]
I see. And I can imagine it would take some time that way, but sometimes it's the only way available to some people. I think it's especially useful to have something like this given the circumstances.
no subject
[Many times intercepting messenger birds had been a keen strategy on the battlefield, especially when laying siege to a city. Most recently though it had simply been the long wait to trade letters with his nephew and offer advice, while waiting for the other to write back.]
I would agree. It seems much easier to have the chance to find like-minded people who might enjoy a game of Pai Sho, or find where the best place to get a warm cup of tea is.
no subject
Although even with the convenience of communicators, they're still not completely reliable. But for what they're made for, they serve well enough.
I'm not sure what Pai Sho is to help you in that, but I know at least that there are others who enjoy tea here, and probably wouldn't say not to sharing a cup with you.

Do you hear a storm?
"...Who was he?" Not that she cared or anything.
no subject
Iroh seemed to stare up into the rain for a moment, it had been a painful sight. But when he looked over it seemed that he had just noticed the company that he had managed to pick up in the pursuit of the past. He wiped off his face, his eyes looked sorrowful and yet he smiled slightly.
"Come, let's get out of this rain before we catch a cold. It seems that the storm is getting worse."
The flash of lightning this time was much closer.
no subject
Her ears wilted a little, glancing about with an unfamiliar weight of guilt, and she frowned uncertainly. It was probably the closest she was going to get to any kind of apology.
The lightening flash and crash of thunder that followed interrupted any growth that moment might have brought, making her shriek and scamper on ahead before looking back with an embarrassed heat to her cheeks.
"Nnn- come on, hurry up Old Man," she grumbled.
no subject
"Thank you for your concern, and for coming with me in this weather. Perhaps we should seek someplace to shelter for the time being?"
Iroh did follow, though there did seem to be several of the buildings that would be suitable for getting out of the rain. As for the lightning, it didn't worry him, he had learned to deal with it several years ago.
"I can make us a fire so that we can dry off and keep warm."
no subject
Another crash of thunder, and Catra was all too willing to duck into the nearest building, smoothing down the floof of her tail with a flush and trying to shake the rain from her hair.
"Yeah, a fire might help," she agreed. They were better off staying put out of the way than trying to make it back through the storm.

Explore the City
It chattered excitedly, and tried to motion for the man to follow.
no subject
"Hello."
He wasn't able to quite understand what it was that the ball was saying, but he was able to tell that it seemed quite friendly. It also seemed that it wanted him to follow it, perhaps this was the reason he had chosen this particular street. Iroh followed the spirit, though he was curious about such a strange one compared to the others he had seen.
"Where is it that you leading me little one?"
no subject
He raced on along just ahead of Iroh before stopping short before one of the buildings and calling for his Master.
A man peered out from a window of the building he'd been exploring with a puzzled look.
"You what?" he called back, climbing down to greet the droid with a fond pat before he looked up offered Iroh a grin from where he was crouched.
"He thinks you're a Jedi," he explained with a chuckle, gesturing to Iroh's clothes, "He was very proud of himself for finding you. You're new right?" He pushed to his feet to offer a hand.
"I'm Poe. Poe Dameron. This here is BB-8."
no subject
"I do not know what a Jedi is, but I am honored that your spirit friend thought of me to be among them. And yes, I have only recently arrived after a long journey."
It took a moment for Iroh to recognize the gesture, but once he did the older man shook Poe's outreached hand.
"Iroh. It is an honor to meet you both."
no subject
"A Jedi is someone who works with the Force back home. They're pretty rare these days. But you've got the look. So. Iroh, what do you think of the place?"
(no subject)
Can you hear me now?
First time with a camera, mm? We're going to have a lot of stuff to catch you up on.
You're handling this whole thing a lot better than people usually do. I'm uh- I'm Billy, by the way. Hi. Nice to meet you.
And uh- pro tip? Try holding it back a little more, it'll be easier for people to see you. Like this.
[He demonstrated holding the camera too close and pulling it back again.]
Been here a while, so if you need a starters guide or anything, I can lend a hand.
no subject
[There had been much that was different about this strange new world. And much that had been missing. But Iroh was able to understand enough to make it by, and he even managed to find the proper distance to hold the camera away. Despite his age, he was quite adept at picking up on it.]
Ah, thank you Billy. My name is Iroh, it is a pleasure to meet you. I am fortunate to have found someone generous enough to help this old man learn about these strange new marvels.
There have been many unexpected turns in the paths I have followed, but all of them have lead me to where I was needed most. I do not believe this to be any different, so there is no need for me to object.
no subject
[He flushed a bit, shaking off the thanks.]
Don't worry about it, really. Least I can do, right? Can you give a little spin around to show off where you are? I'll come find you. It'll be easier to explain in person.
no subject
[Doing as requested, Iroh turned the Camera revealing a shop that had one point appeared to be a cafe of some kind.]
I don't believe that it has been open in quite some time, but the door was open so I decided to let myself in.
no subject
[And it really did seem to be a remarkably quick turn around. Billy teleported near by, not wanting to startle anyone who might be unfamiliar with those sorts of powers. It had definitely happened more than once, he'd learned his lesson by now.
He gave a light rap at the door before easing it open.]
Mr. Iroh?

Can You Hear Me Now - omgiloveyou
Woah there, man, pull the device back from your face. And they're not paintings. That's a camera phone. Live video of other places and people. So basically it's just like being there with someone and looking at them in person.
Geez, you're like, from a low tech period, aren't you? This is going to be a lot.
no subject
Pictures and sound both, it is like speaking with them directly. Only they're not able to throw things if they don't appreciate your pun. We certainly did not have anything this magical back home.
no subject
[Damn, he likes this guy already.]
So who are you?
no subject
I will keep that in mind and be sure to duck.
I am but an old man who has wandered a bit far from home on his journey. My name is Iroh. What is yours?
