Summer Test Drive Meme!

Welcome to the Current Test Drive for The Revival Project!

This game is a spin-off from the closed The Drift Fleet game. For more information about the game, including more details on the setting, please check out the FAQ here or the premise here.

A thread on the TDM will be required for all applications. Please view the FAQ for information about how this works. Any questions about the game please direct to the comment section of the FAQ as well.

If you are a Drift Fleet alumni bringing your character from the game, please label your character as 'DFAU' on your top level. Also, keep in mind you have complete flexibility on how your character comes here. They could be taken before endgame, after endgame, two years after, one year before, etc. It's up to you! If you want to completely restart your character, they're not considered DFAU anymore and won't need the label.

Thread ideas:

- Explore the city! There's a map here and a bit more description of some of the buildings here. Most of the buildings are run down and have clearly been abandoned for years; fortunately, the water treatment center appears to be working, but power is intermittent and unreliable. The hotel seems to be the most crowded, but you might want into what appears to be an abandoned storefront and find someone else scavenging or even sleeping.

- There are spaceships! That's right, there are currently several small spaceships grounded in the hangar. They appear to have power, but only one ship will let you enter. (For test drive purposes, the ship that will let you enter is up to you, so just pick whichever name appeals, and go for it!) The other ships won't open for you, but it might be worth poking around the one that will...

- Do you hear a storm? A giant, power-altering storm has been ravaging part of the planet for a month. It shows ghosts of people you know and those you don't. It drains you of any super-human abilities and tries its best to keep you from getting to its origin. Are you going to try anyways? Or are you going to chase the whispers of people from your past? More information can be found here.

- Can you hear me now? Upon arrival, your character will have on their person a small, handheld communications device. Maybe they know exactly how to use a computer, smartphone, or tablet, and immediately blast out a text or video trying to figure out what's going on. Or maybe they're not so tech-savvy after all, and everyone is about to get a lovely shot right up your character's left nostril.

- Wildcard! You're welcome to use any previous test drive scenarios or previous game events as a basis for a thread/situation, or simply make up your own! Keep in mind that you're currently stranded on a planet with only basic necessities, but there is enough food and fresh water. Creature comforts, however, seem to be distinctly lacking...

Not always, but when things have been abandoned for at least a century, I guess you can't expect them to be in the greatest shape. Some still have fared better than others.

Yeah, I guess not. I would be really surprised if a building was in great shape after being abandoned. If no one has been caring for them for a century, then they probably are in great shape.

I am new here. Is it that obvious?

[He asked with a faint smile]

At least we've managed to salvage some of them, and we've got the water and some power up and running.

[Cal grinned crookedly.]

Pretty obvious. I've been here a few months and it still feels like there's so much we haven't figured out.

That's good. A step in the right direction. This one is one you're still checking on?

Months? That's... surprising. How did you all get here?

It was today's adventure. You saw how well that went.

[He tilted his head then.]

Same as you. We were brought by the Agrii, in hopes that we can help salvage their home and solve the problem that's been keeping them away.

Yeah, I did. Is it salvageable or pretty much completely gone now?

Ah ha. So I'll imagine everyone here is here for that purpose as well. Guess they haven't been home for quite a while.

Most of it's still standing, but obviously more care will have to be taken in looking through the place.

Pretty much. It wouldn't have been nearly as bad if they'd maybe asked first, but...I don't think they know how to deal with people outside of their own, very well. They do try, I'll give them that. It's apparently been over a century since they've been able to, which really explains the state of disrepair for the place.

Makes sense... especially if it did that.

Yeah, that would explain why it looks like this. But yeah, asking would have been better. We've been trying to help out worlds that have needed it since the end of the fighting. We could have brought supplies.

Oh? Was there a war in your galaxy too..?

Unfortunately it's not so simple. Aside from the Agrii having a very certain expectations of us when it comes to restoring their home, I have a feeling we've got other forces we're dealing with altogether.

There was. The Galra were trying to take over and control everyone. We used Voltron to fight them and created a coalition of other races who wanted their freedom to fight them.

Other forces? Like what?

What's...Voltron?

I guess wherever you're from is a different place entirely from where I know. Our fight was against the Separatists, but then...things happened. Now there's a Galactic Empire, and I can't say that it's an improvement.

[Cal shook his head.]

I'm not even really certain. The Agrii were using technology they weren't familiar with, to bring us here. I feel like there's someone else out there pulling the strings.

Voltron is a robot in our world. It is formed from five robotic lions combining. The largest is the body and head. The next two largest are the legs, and smallest form the arms.

It sounds like it is different, but maybe not much so. The Galran Empire was not well-liked. They were pretty much universally hated.

Ah, I see. So like... someone conveniently left something for another person to find, knowing they'd use it. That kind of feeling?

[Mention of a robot had BD-1 borble inquiringly. A giant one sounded fascinating.]

Wow... That sounds impressive. And a little scary, but I guess it depends on which side you end up on. The war I fought in, we had to face armies of droids, and I'm glad none of them were as big as what your's sounds like.

I fought for the Galactic Republic. ...then something happened, and the war just suddenly came to a halt, and both the Republic and the Confederacy were joined into the Galactic Empire, and it hasn't stopped in trying to bring more worlds under its heel.

[Cal nodded slowly then.]

Kind of. Convenience is definitely a part of it. There are things that line up all too well to be coincidence. But the over-arcing reason is something we haven't been able to fathom.

Yeah, they weren't so scary when they are on your side. When we first saw the blue lion, before we officially became the pilots of Voltron, it was certainly a surprise. And a little frightening. But that went away rather quickly.

I see. So the Empire is the one trying to take over everything? What was the goal of Republic if you don't mind me asking?

Yeah, based just on what you said, it sounds like a coincidence might be a little too hard to have line up, but it is not impossible. But especially if it feels like there is still another reason behind all of this.

I can't say that the droids the Separatists had were particularly scary. But the sheer number that they had for their armies could be very intimidating.

The Republic stood for peace and unity between the worlds that decided to join. They would outreach and assist worlds in need. Complete control of the galaxy was hardly an intent.

I have a feeling we might not like the answers to those reasons if we find them.

[Yep, looking BD-1 with a faint smile. It was certainly cute]

That sounds like what the coalition stood for. Before their focus changed, it seems like the Galra stood for that as well, but rather quickly things changed.

Considering the answer has not been given thus far, I'd guess it probably won't be a good one.

That's right. This is BeeDee-One.

[The little guy beeped happily, hopping up onto Cal's leg before the padawan leaned over to let the droid clamber up an arm and onto his back.]

Oh, and I'm Cal. Guess we got a little ahead of ourselves.

[Grinning, he offered a hand to shake.]

Sounds like at least you were able to deal with the Galra. So far it's only been pockets of resistance here and there back where I'm from. People are either too afraid or unable to stand up against the Empire.

[Shiro smiled as he watched the little robot climb all the way up]

It's nice to meet you, BeeDee-One. And it's nice to meet you as well, Cal. I'm Shiro.

[He extended his hand as well to shake, but it was not like a normal arm... it was pretty much a disembodied floating robotic forearm and a glowing plate where his shoulder was. The left arm looked fine though]

Hopefully, soon more people will be able to stand up to the Empire.

[Cal paused only for a brief moment as he took a better look at the offered arm, quick to resume the motion of shaking hands.]

Nice to meet you too, Shiro.

[He nodded.]

So long as people don't lose that hope that there's something worth fighting for, I think that's especially important.

[Yeah... the arm was a long story]

I agree. That is what is most important when fighting a war. You can't forget what you are fighting for.

So, since I'm new here, anything I should check out?

Well, everything's pretty rough and tumble so far. We've been making attempts to fix up places here and there. The main square of the city's where most of the more accessible places are, and the most useful.

[He pointed off in the general directon of the city center.]

You probably walked through it already given most arrive in one of the buildings near there. The easiest point of reference is the fountain. The old hotel's probably the best place to stay at while you get your bearings. You can choose if you want to stay elsewhere or just stay there. The diner's across from there and the fountain. The person who set it up is gone, but Tommy still keeps it running, and we all pitch in for foraging food. There's a greenhouse to help with that, at least.

[Shiro looked over the direction that Cal pointed, listening to everything that he had to say]

That's good information. Thanks. At least gives me an idea of where to start. It seems like a lot has been done here.

A good bit of things have been done even before I arrived. Water's been restored. Some of the power. But any extra help will always be appreciated.

I'll certainly help out where I can. Can always use more hands with problems like this. Can't say I've ever tried to restore power in a building as run down as these, but I'll give it a shot.

Well, thankfully we've got someone who's got some ideas on how to approach the power problem. At least no one has to do any of this on their own.
