[EVENT] The Rescue: Day Three

You've made it through week two (IC Day 2) of the event! On Wednesday, August, 19, Day 3 will start.

Remember, each OOC week is one day in game, so you'll have a full week to play out the next in-game day of events. This week is a little different: It's a little less structured, and there are no Major Decisions you need to make, but still plenty of decisions and obstacles your characters will face.

And with that, on to...

RESULTS OF DAY 2 CHOICES

The Rescuers have engaged the intruders (which some of you now know are called the Graq) and, although it looks like someone did get answers from these not-so-cuddly teddy bears, that same someone is now having a pretty rough time. Should have been immunized! A vaccine a day keeps the bad trips away! But as it is, the intruders have now been angered and the only option is to take them down. This doesn’t need to mean killing (indeed, your guns are more suited to stunning an opponent, but don’t let that stop you. Monster.) but the time for conversation is past. They will spit at anyone who comes too close and will shoot at the rest, even if you’re keeping your distance. Defenders, take them out.

The Investigation teams have been busy as well. They have taken Ga Re to the infirmary and, lucky enough, even if you don’t have someone to help, eventually she will show you the right medication to inject her with and it will stop her distress. After all that, though, she is exhausted and needs to rest. But that’s okay. In the meantime, the other Investigator team has discovered something that all of you might want to see. Thanks to the Defenders, the missing video recording has been found. When those Investigators in the video room watch it, they will see a place that looks very, very familiar:

It is Agra 10, just a century or so before now. The Agrii are there, walking around Temba, going about their business. But their race isn’t the only one you see. Among them are people from what look like different planets and, potentially, different universes. Just like the group of heroes you have here now. And just like the old Drift Fleet.

As you keep watching, it is clear that these people ARE from Drift Fleet. A Drift Fleet that aired episodes 100 years ago. Your shuttles are there, looking newer (but older-fashioned) and with different names. But they’re the same shuttles. It appears as though this Drift Fleet has made a supply stop at Temba. (Heroes who were recently in the Drift Fleet will notice this is just like dozens of other stops the Fleet made on occupied worlds.) The Agrii have set up trading tables and exchange goods for credits - credits that seem to mean nothing to them, even though they gladly accept them. It’s as though this is normal for them, to see strange people walking around their town, carrying money and needing supplies. And perhaps it is.

But halfway through the recording, the energy storms start. They are harsh and deadly to the Agrii who fall, choking to the ground. They seem surprised. Like they have never experienced an energy storm before. The rest of the ‘episode’ shows the Fleet working to get the Agrii off the planet and up into a ship the Atroma provided. It’s the same ship you are on right now.

The video ends with Temba abandoned and its people stuck in a ship they do not understand. The Fleet is forced to move on to their next drift and their next stop. Agra 10 is left behind them, abandoned and forgotten.

Since the Defenders unlocked the video, they can also download it to watch on the console or their comms. But there are other things you guys have been busy with: The home team, for instance, has gotten the ship’s systems mostly up and stabilized. Feel free to have this be as successful as you wish it to be. Once a system is stabilized, it can also be turned off, so if you want to drop the force fields, now is the time. (But remember, they’re all or nothing, so if you want any force fields on, they’ve all got to stay on.) Still, good job, team!

Good job also to the Defenders’ infiltration team! You are currently on the Graq ship and in their engineering bay. It is empty. In fact, as you leave that room and go into the rest of the ship, it is just as empty as the Agrii ship. You will come upon maybe five Graq as you walk through the ship, and find a few more on the bridge. None of them seem to be doing much. They’re just walking around and looking at the ship like it is something strange. Like maybe they haven’t seen it before, either? But if you come into contact with them, they will spit first and ask questions later. These Graq are confused and scared and at the end of their rope, so strangers are not welcome. Good luck, team!

DAY 3 DAWNS

In the morning you awaken to the Agrii ship coming back online. The systems are stabilizing and the enemy ships are still silent outside. There are no more energy shots and there doesn’t seem to be all that much activity from the Graq onboard, either. Maybe the Rescuers knocked them all out? Maybe they are starting to calm? Either way it is a quiet morning compared to yesterday.

Or so it seems.

At about the mid-morning, the Graq ships suddenly read on your scans as powering up. It is not the same sort of readings that came before their attack on the Agrii ship, though. It is more concentrated and seems to be coming from the very center of their ships. The Agrii ship alerts you to it and sends up warnings everywhere, from the Defender’s console, to the bridge systems, to every intercom on the ship:

This power increase is consistent with a self-destruct sequence and the Agrii ship is currently in range of the explosions.

Any investigation of the ships will prove that this is true. For whatever reason, both Graq ships have been triggered for self-destruct and are counting down slowly but steadily. Normally, this might not be a concern; the Graq have already attacked you and are enemy combatants. If they want to self-destruct, then you could believe that is their concern and just move the Agrii ship out of range. However, before such a decision can be made, something odd happens.

Cloud is gone as of this morning. He alone seems to be suddenly missing when everyone is coming together and making the plans for the new day. Just like Bucky had disappeared. Just like so many had disappeared over the months before. But unlike those, his communicator seemed to be on at the time of his disappearance and it is still on now. Cloud is nowhere in sight on his video but the comm is angled to show rows upon rows of Agrii sleeping on strange medical tables. That is all anyone can see and no one will wake even if you yell into your communicator. No one there can tell you where they are, but the comm is getting a signal and that means it can be traced. So you do so and it leads you right to where your missing compatriot is:

The Graq ship.

That’s right. On both Graq ships, the missing Agrii are being kept hidden in what appears to be an enormous cargo room. Hundreds of them, asleep and now at risk in the destruction of these vessels. There is only one thing you can do in order to save them:

You have to evacuate the Graq ships.

This is a job that will require everyone to come together. Defenders have ships ready to go for anyone to take over and start the process of evacuation. Pilots, this is your moment. We need you to get between the ships. Autopilot can’t do the needed maneuvering this time.

Communicators can try to contact the Graq and get their assistance or warn them about what is to come. No one needs to be getting into a fight with them as a full-scale evacuation is in process. Or maybe ask them why they are self-destructing? Any answers at all would help, surely.

Medics and Agriculture will find that there are awakening agents/herbs in the holding room that can be injected or burned for the sleeping Agrii to wake them up.

And Security? Well. Let’s make sure that everyone stays safe here.

As for Engineering - remember that transporter you didn’t build? Maybe now is the time to enlist some help from whoever is left and get that up and running. If you trust it, that is.

You have the day to get everyone off the ship, including Cloud and your fellow heroes in the boarding party. As you search, you will also find someone familiar in a similar slumber on the other ship:

Captain Scruffy Bucky.

Both he and Cloud are bleeding from an incision in their necks and unable to be woken up. They are alive, though, and otherwise seem to be unharmed. Small blessings, there.

So this is it, heroes. There is no time to waste. No time to investigate or defend. You’re all rescuers, now. Time to go to work.

OOC INFO AND FAQ

How many people can I fit on this shuttle?! Can we even do this?

Not going to lie, this is going to be a tight squeeze. You have about 300 Agrii to wake up and walk out of here unless the transporter can take some of the work off you. One trip to get the Agrii and bring them back will take about an hour. Unless you’re Tommy. Maybe use Tommy a lot. But you should be able to do it. I am not going to give you dimensions and everything because I don’t want this to be a math problem to solve. You can do it but time is short and you should be working under the assumption that you can’t afford any delays.

Do we have to wake the Agrii up?

Nope. They’re pretty light. Think the heaviest would be around 120lbs and the lightest would be somewhere in the 40lb range. You could probably heft a few. Just pretend you got back from grocery shopping and ONLY THE WEAK MAKE MORE THAN ONE TRIP! RAAAWR!

No Major Decisions this week?

Not this week! Your decisions from the past two rounds have led you here. Time to come together as a group and get this taken care of with everything you’ve built, learned, and accomplished together. Or cursing what you didn’t build, learn, or accomplish together. Either or.

Gee, wouldn’t it be nice if all the shuttles had a speed increase? Or if someone had been immunized to the venom and could tell you more about the Graq? Oh well...

Will the Graq attack us on the ships?

Yes. Unless you have a communications person (or Jon) around to try and talk them down and explain what is going on, they will spit with their psychedelic venom or shoot you on sight.

Do we have to save the Graq?

You are a terrible person for asking this question. How dare you leave people to die. Steve Rogers frowns in your direction.

No. You sure don’t have to. Monster.

When will the explosion happen/will we blow up?

It will happen at the end of the ‘day,’ meaning that next week will start with the explosion as this event concludes. You have the (OOC) week (IC day) to work on evacuations and to get the Agrii ship out of range without worrying about the explosion.

What happened to Cloud and Bucky?

They went poof and got matching neck-things. It’s like a friendship bracelet but with knives and stitches.

No, really, what happened?

It’s a mystery! Sadly, neither of them will know, either.

Regarding Spit

[personal profile] doubled_speed 2020-08-19 03:50 am (UTC)(link)
You say the trip doesn’t wear off. But will medical datapoint people be able to fix it once chaos is more controlled? I.E. if I fuck Tommy up toward the end with a happy trip will Billy or Dany or whoever be able to help him?

Okay, an odd question as I feel I might have missed something:

Is there a physical description of the Agrii somewhere? In the 'Day 1' post you describe Ga Re as 'She is exactly as she looked in the image you saw before, just taller.' - But I don't recall any image to be honest and if this image and their actual appearance is something that supposedly is ICly known then I have been doing it wrong now for months... Help?

[personal profile] tempredmental 2020-08-19 03:33 pm (UTC)(link)
So, on average, about how big are the Agrii? Rayla's pretty tiny, and, while she can definitely handle their weight, awkwardness might be an issue if the Agrii are a taller race and her carrying them only results in half-dragging them along the floor. LOL

Say a certain disaster witch with a certain communications data point did try to contact the Graq. Will they tell her why they're doing this? And is there any hope for Wanda trying to broker some sort of deal (ie 'we take the weird ones peacefully and go, you let us take the weird ones and you're free to fly off without any trouble from us, there's no need to start blowing things up')?
seeingscarlet: (girl; 177)

[personal profile] seeingscarlet 2020-08-23 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Guess it was too much to hope that they could shut down their own self-destruct, haha

Wanda can agree to those terms but it would be super-great if they could try to talk their less-trusting friends down so they stop attacking the crew/slowing down the evacuation. They need to get the pink aliens to safety first (and the rest of the Graq's buddies, but no more fighting please) and then if they can give her the info to pass on to a pilot, one of the crew will point the Agrii ship that way.

(If they say anything about keeping the weird-fire-dude away from them, she has no idea which person that is, but she'll do her best lol)

While on one of the Graq ships, one of the systems Tony would be most curious about would be the weapons, and particularly that storm effect one. Would he be able to figure anything out about it between his communications/extremis combo, or is it a mystery?
doubled_speed: (Default)

Sub-Event? Stop That Speedster?

[personal profile] doubled_speed 2020-08-19 02:40 pm (UTC)(link)
So, about that Tommy...

Once forcefields are down and the self-destruct sequence is engaged, any pilots that want it are getting a speedster express back to the hangar to get on ships. Tommy needs someone to get him over there post haste. Once there, between speed and strength, he'll be able to move their companions and the Agri, no problems.

Except... Well, we can't make this easy, right? About three-quarters of the way through the evacuation process Tommy's going to get hit by the spit. He hasn't taken the immunization. Could you imagine how HORRID it would be to have slowed reflexes when you're running a few hundred miles per hour and you need to take corners? Nope, that'd be a splatter. So, Tommy's going to get spit on, and given his speedster metabolism guess who is going to go from zero to bad trip pretty instantly?

This guy.

At that point Tommy will of course won't be helping anyone do anything, even if the ship is about to explode. So who, I ask, saves the hero? Volunteers for trying to corral or knock out a speedster and get him the fuck to a medic or just tied up and on a ship?

[personal profile] in_extremis 2020-08-20 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
It involves turning off gravity and lights and sending in someone that can see in the dark (Rayla? That sounds like something she can do) with a big blanket.

Also, while the gravity is off we can all just push Agrii out of the cargo bay.

Keith & Rayla

[personal profile] tempredmental 2020-08-19 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, so Keith is a pilot, and would be really up for helping with ferrying people back and forth... except... he's on a spit-induced trip, so someone would need to get him treated for that if you want his help. It's a baaaaaaad idea to let him take the helm in his current state.

As for Rayla, she's already on the Graq ship with the infiltration party, so that's a plus? Except she's tiny as all get out. With the height difference, she's not carrying a 6-foot-tall Agrii no matter how light they are, so she can run escort missions for defense as needed. But, she's also not immunized against the spit-balls, so someone might want to help her with that. I'm okay with her getting hit and being on a trip for a while if it needs to work out that way, but she'll eventually need to be treated at some point if she's to continue being helpful.

Jon

[personal profile] beholding_archivist 2020-08-20 02:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeaah..... Last time we saw our Archivist he hasn't been having a marvelous time and ended up unconscious. Words are he has been brought to the medbay to get him treated? Though fixing the spit-induced issue won't really help him recover from mentally overexhausting himself, so unless someone brought him back to the shuttle bay after treatment, he will eventually drag himself back there.

He's in no condition to be of any help, but will stubbornly insist on trying despite barely being able to stand.

Want to bolt him in place? Maybe learn of the awesome insights he has pulled from some Graq minds?

Oh, and don't believe what the FAQ is saying. Jon can understand the Graq, but not talk to them. That's what got him in his currently miserable state in the first place.
deal_me_in: (We were in a meeting about something)

[personal profile] deal_me_in 2020-08-20 04:26 pm (UTC)(link)
After ALL THAT Cayde would've brought Jon to get medical attention and have a place to rest that wasn't, you know, the ground. And with the Graq immobilized and the rest of the ship clear, much as he likes to wander, he'd be hanging around in medbay to make sure Jon's okay.

He'll just be standing not very close because he doesn't want another freak out episode.
beholding_archivist: (Must be drugs)

[personal profile] beholding_archivist 2020-08-20 04:55 pm (UTC)(link)
lol - By which you mean Cayde has him effectively grounded in the medbay? I mean, that's definitely one way to keep him from trying to help.

So since Raphael's already aboard the other ship with Rayla and Billy, I've got a thread en route to the cargo bay because that's where they've found a concentrated amount of lifeforms?

Edit: I figure this'll work out better instead of crowding ships- but since they're here they can grab Bucky along with the Agrii. Who...Raph will think is The Soldier Bucky since that's the only Bucky he's met lol not to mention Soldier's only known as the Soldier.

Playing taxicab evacuation for a ship was not what he'd had in mind when he voted for an infiltration mission. XD BUT HE WILL HELP DO IT DANGIT. SPACE IS MESSED UP.

Assuming that with everything starting to go crazy once the self-destruct proximity alarms go off, Cal can finally reunite with BD-1 and see where their assistance might best be needed.

If Poe and the Mando have the bridge covered, I think Cal will be heading back to the ship docking bay where the defense team is, if extra engineer help is needed?

Cayde-6

[personal profile] deal_me_in 2020-08-22 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
Aighty, updating this some since we've threaded a bit!

Cayde and Tony are going to the other "enemy" ship that the Infiltration Team is not on. The intent there's to grab Cloud and see about helping get those evacs under way. I figure between Wanda's having talked to the Graq and Tony being communications expertise, they shooouldn't have any problems with the fuzzballs and if they can get 'em to help offload Agrii, even better because lol what is Medical expertise.

Soldier

[personal profile] sinistral 2020-08-24 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
Returning the BD-Backpack to Cal for sure, and likely probably also heading to the docking bay. From there I'm open to having him assist where needed: super strength is a thing, so ferrying bodies as needed can certainly happen. He's no technological whiz but instructions like "hold this" or "tighten that screw" are well within his abilities if the engineers of the group just need an extra pair of hands. And as always, a willingness to do violence and call it defense, for anyone who needs defending and is too squeamish to do it themselves.

I've been largely absent this event due to Life Happening, so I more than welcome back tagging for interactions that would have happened in the previous days.

[personal profile] out_of_order 2020-08-24 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Cool, they can all head back together in that case, since Cal will be wanting to go back too. He'll be glad to see Soldier and BD-1. Not sure if we're meaning to do any quick updates to the ships given they're probably better off being put to use right off the back, but probably gonna have hands full trying to help out whatever Agrii get offloaded since only one ship's got a medical specialized person who can help them wake up. 8D
