WINTER TEST DRIVE MEME

WINTER TEST DRIVE MEME
Application FAQ | Taken Characters | Reserves | Application

Welcome to the Current Test Drive for The Revival Project!

This game is a spin-off from the closed The Drift Fleet game. For more information about the game, including more details on the setting, please check out the FAQ here or the premise here.

A thread on the TDM will be required for all applications. Please view the FAQ for information about how this works. Any questions about the game please direct to the comment section of the FAQ as well.

If you are a Drift Fleet alumni bringing your character from the game, please label your character as 'DFAU' on your top level. Also, keep in mind you have complete flexibility on how your character comes here. They could be taken before endgame, after endgame, two years after, one year before, etc. It's up to you! If you want to completely restart your character, they're not considered DFAU anymore and won't need the label.

So go! Explore Agra 10! And, as always, HAVE FUN!

Thread ideas:

Explore the city!
Here's a map and a bit more description of some of the buildings here.

Most of the buildings are run down and have clearly been abandoned for years; fortunately, the water treatment center appears to be working, but power is intermittent and unreliable. What used to be stores or places to live in lies in ruins, but there may still be something to scavenge among the rubble. Do you want to risk a swim in the flooded area that has turned into a deep lake that has yet to be fully explored; or does it draw you to some of the more prominent and partially restored buildings, such as the hotel, the hospital or the amphitheater.

If you are lucky, you might even stumble over The Deep End, the bar located on one of the mid-levels of the tower residences in one of the residence towers. Unfortunately no bright neon signs can lead you there, but it does exist.

Visit the spaceships!
That's right, there are currently several small spaceships grounded in the hangar - Or what remains of them. It's painfully obvious that these ships have crash-landed not too long ago and were taken back to the hangar for repairs. You were assigned to one of them and its doors will open for you and let you enter if you wish. (For test drive purposes, the ship that will let you enter is up to you, so just pick whichever name appeals, and go for it!) The other ships won't open for you, but as neither of them look as if they will be leaving anytime soon that doesn't really matter either way.

Maybe look around anyway. Or try your hand at some repairs?

Try the network!
Upon arrival, your character will have on their person a small, handheld communications device. Maybe they know exactly how to use a computer, smartphone, or tablet, and immediately blast out a text or video trying to figure out what's going on. Or maybe they're not so tech-savvy after all, and everyone is about to get a lovely shot right up your character's left nostril.

There be storms...
These power-altering storms keep ravaging parts of the planet every once in a while. No one truly knows where they come from or what to do about them yet, but one of them appears to be approaching. You have the option to find shelter in one of the buildings to wait for it to pass. Unless, of course, you rather feel drawn to investigate.

Should you step inside the storm, or even get lost in it, it will show ghosts of people you know and those you don't. It drains you of any super-human abilities and tries its best to keep you from getting to its origin. Are you going to try anyways? Or are you going to chase the whispers of people from your past? Maybe you will simply find yourself calling for help or stumble across another lost soul in need of assistance.

More information can be found here.

Wildcard!
You're welcome to use any previous test drive scenarios or previous game events as a basis for a thread/situation, or simply make up your own! Keep in mind that you're currently stranded on a planet with only basic necessities, but there is enough food and fresh water. Creature comforts, however, seem to be distinctly lacking. Quite unlike a gathering of potentially dangerous creatures to encounter. The setting is yours to explore and have fun with!

Heheheh

There's someone rooting around in the bunk room. The mattress to the lone single bed inside has been turned up on its side like someone's opened a box lid, and when it abruptly gets thumped back down again, the figure standing there is holding some sleek sort of firearm, looking it over. It's in no way aimed at certain people who might be nosing around the ship and into this particular room, but once the Hunter realizes he's not alone, he does look a little awkward for a hot second or two.

His metal face certainly declares he's a robot of some kind, but he wears clothing, his armor mostly leather with a few pieces in metal. Blue optics shutter in a blink, and then all at once he casts off the awkwardness and actually appears to grin. Amber light spills from his throat as he greets, "Hey there! Who are you and why're you on my ship?"
hadthehighground: (I sense something...)

[personal profile] hadthehighground 2020-11-30 06:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Well this is... interesting. The human just stares back at this strange robotic being, his brows raised slightly. He hadn't known what to expect on this ship, but this wasn't it. It also explained why he hadn't sensed anyone here right away.

"You can call me Ben," the Jedi says in reply. The man calmly looking around the bunk room with just a hint of curiosity.

"As for why I'm here, the door was open. Are you a service droid of some sort?"

That was the only logical explanation after all. Droids were meant to have some sort of function on a ship. They didn't own ships of their own since they were not actual living beings. So that was his immediate assumption.
deal_me_in: (That's good right?)

[personal profile] deal_me_in 2020-11-30 08:31 pm (UTC)(link)
"All right, Ben," the Exo nods before scowling a bit at the assumption. Then he laughs.

"The name's Cayde. I'm one of this ship's small crew," he says as he gives his gun a once over and then sets it down on the bed. He steps around it, hooking his thumbs in his belt as he looks the robed stranger over, walking so smoothly he could have been flesh and blood beneath that Hunter gear.

"You new around here? Silly question, 'course you are."
hadthehighground: (Orly?)

[personal profile] hadthehighground 2020-11-30 08:38 pm (UTC)(link)
This elicits a bit of a surprised look from Obi-Wan. A name? Normally he would expect a number followed by the droid reciting its primary function. From those that could actually speak basic, that is. Sometimes people gave droids nicknames that corresponded with their numbers, like Artoo or Arfour or something, but the droids themselves never tended to use them. Yet there is something distinctly lifelike with the way this machine moves and holds himself. It's very curious indeed.

"I see, then it's a pleasure to meet you." Quickly covering up the supposed blunder with his usual politeness, the Jedi dips his head in a nod.

"There does not seem to be many beings here at all, so I can only assume it's easy to spot someone new."

deal_me_in: (I got this!)

[personal profile] deal_me_in 2020-11-30 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
"Back at you," the Exo replies. "You do realize that now I'll have to find a new hiding place for my guns." Still, he grins before nodding at the man's observations.

"You've got the right of it. There's maybe like...twenty or so of us around here? Small, abandoned town. That's the way it goes. Oh, you won't find the actual residents of this planet here though, otherwise it'd be a lot busier."
hadthehighground: (Oh my)

[personal profile] hadthehighground 2020-11-30 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
That earns a little bit of a chuckle from Obi-Wan. "Perhaps, though I can assure you your secret would be safe with me. No offense, I for one have no need for crude blasters." The uncivilized things that they were.

"Is that all? Well, it does explain things. The town is a veritable ruin."

Something had clearly happened and he had already guesses that whoever lived there before had either abandoned the place, or... were wiped out in some form.
deal_me_in: (Then I shot that guy)

[personal profile] deal_me_in 2020-12-01 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
Cayde does love his uncivilized weapons. Actually he likes all sorts of weapons. "Crude! ....well yeah. This thing doesn't really have the finesse I'd prefer. Mass produced probably, not much to it." He unholsters his Ace of Spades because he feels the need to show off. "Now this is quality workmanship." He gives it a spin and it's neatly returned to its place at his side.

"I mean, if it's been sitting here uninhabited for as long as they say it's been, yeah. You get the memo about what all we're supposed to be doing here?"
hadthehighground: (you don't say)

[personal profile] hadthehighground 2020-12-01 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
Obi-Wan looks on with scrutiny as Cayde brandishes his pride and joy. The Jedi not looking terribly impressed as it didn’t look any different than any other gun he had ever seen. “If you say so,” he replies, not at all sounding convinced. Though far be it from him to doubt one’s attachment to their weapons.

“I was informed, yes,” he then continues. Again he didn’t particularly sound enthusiastic. “Not sure how much of it I believe. Especially considering that they brought me here to assist. I sincerely doubt I’m the hero they’re looking for as I’m hardly in a position to save anyone.”
deal_me_in: (That's good right?)

[personal profile] deal_me_in 2020-12-01 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
Right. Definitely not a gun man, Cayde notes. He shrugs.

"Well, I can tell you for a fact that at least the locals of this planet are indeed real, and their world has suddenly developed this rotten urge to kill them whenever those storms stir up. Finally experienced my first of those not too long ago- was not fun, let me tell you."

He nudges the gun over on the bed before promptly throwing himself back on it, folding his arms behind his head and one leg over the other. "None of us exactly signed up for this job, but we're as good as stuck, seein' as how they can't even control who all they bring, much less throw us back where they found us."
hadthehighground: (jedi master)

[personal profile] hadthehighground 2020-12-01 05:07 am (UTC)(link)
“You have met them then?” There is at least something to be said for that. However, their existence doesn’t exactly prove their intentions. He disliked being used, especially when he wasn’t certain as to what end. It could certainly all be true, but then it might not.

Remaining standing in the door, Obi-Wan just watches as the droid fellow reclines on his bed. “That may be, and I will have to accept that fact.” Though he still thinks they could have chosen better. If they even chose him at all. A washed up Jedi in hiding who couldn’t save his own people hardly seemed a good candidate for saving another.
deal_me_in: (I did a lot of shooting that day)

[personal profile] deal_me_in 2020-12-01 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah. We were called out to save them because they were apparently under attack. Whole thing turned out to be a huge set-up, and it's starting to look like that even includes our being here." The Exo shrugs. "Doesn't seem like the Agrii know what's going on either, so it's quite possible something else bigger is pulling the strings."

Acceptance seems to be about the only thing they can do, given what little other options they have.
hadthehighground: (jedi master)

[personal profile] hadthehighground 2020-12-01 01:40 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well, that's at least something I'm not unfamiliar with." Silver lining? Not really. The man sounds weary of the whole prospect. On the one hand, his Jedi instincts drove him to want to help others. On the other, he had just lost everything due to some big bad pulling strings behind the scenes. It was not something he particularly wanted to go through again.

It was the Jedi way to accept what he could not control. Even so, he's clearly discontent with his being here.

"So, are you the captain of this particular vessel, then?" He had noticed how the bed was labeled as such.
deal_me_in: (So everything is gone)

[personal profile] deal_me_in 2020-12-01 05:47 pm (UTC)(link)
The way Cayde sees it, there's always the potential of something bigger working sinister things behind the other things that happen. It comes with knowing for a fact that there's still some mysterious, darker force out there that the Traveler's Light had expelled once before, and even the Traveler had plenty of its own secrets that none of them fully knew.

"Huh?" He lifts his head at the question, then sits himself up, laughing. "Oh, uh. No. I don't think we officially have one? Our pilot vanished even before we returned here. Weird kid, tall, liked wearing black, had this mean mop of wavy hair. Not much of a people person. Liked his laser sword though."
hadthehighground: (Lightsaber)

[personal profile] hadthehighground 2020-12-01 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
With his eyebrows shooting up in surprise, Obi-Wan's interest is definitely piqued at that particular description.

"You mean, something like this?"

It's with that, the Jedi takes a metallic cylinder off his belt. With the push of a button he ignites it. A glowing, humming, blue blade coming into existence.
deal_me_in: (I got this!)

[personal profile] deal_me_in 2020-12-01 06:03 pm (UTC)(link)
It's either the light of the Jedi's blade or Cayde's eyes seeming to brighten at the sight, but either way he's definitely had his interest captured in that moment. He immediately hops up from the bed, snap-pointing with both hands.

"Yeah, yeah!! Just like that! His was red though. Had a funky little crosspiece and crackled a lot more, but it got the job done." He folds an arm across his chest, his other hand stoking his metal jaw as he studied Obi-Wan's blade. "Think I like yours better. Nice color." And it didn't sound like it was straining against its housing.
hadthehighground: (wut)

[personal profile] hadthehighground 2020-12-01 06:46 pm (UTC)(link)
"Red is not a color I'm fond of either," Obi-Wan says as he powers down the lightsaber and puts it back on his belt. After all, that was a trademark of the Sith. Though the man that Cayde had described was not someone he was familiar with. And a crossguard? Only Jedi in ancient times had such blades. That was most odd. Either way, it hardly mattered if that person was not here any longer.

"And he was your pilot? I have a feeling I'm meant to be his replacement." This is said with a resigned sigh.
deal_me_in: (This is my serious face)

[personal profile] deal_me_in 2020-12-02 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
Cayde looks just a little disappointed when the shiny toy is put away. He could think of so many uses for one!

"You are? Did you touch the data thingy? Given that you're able to get in here I'm assuming that means you've been assigned to this ship, but piloting...and most anything that requires some specific knowhow around here, needs a data transfer straight into your brain. Or at least that's how I've come to understand it."
hadthehighground: (you don't say)

[personal profile] hadthehighground 2020-12-02 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
“I don’t need a... data thingy to know how to pilot.”

While he sounds a bit indignant at the suggestion that he doesn’t know how to fly, there is also distaste at the thought of it. He hates to fly after all, despite being quite talented at it. Though if it is required of him, he will do it.
deal_me_in: (Worse case - you die)

[personal profile] deal_me_in 2020-12-02 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
"That's what I said when I tried to fire one of their 'death tools'," Cayde snorts, somehow appearing to give a crooked smile. "And then the thing went and almost blew off my face. Lucky for me, it's metal." He shakes his head.

"But yeah. This place is all backwards that nothing makes sense that should, and the Agrii seem to have a very specific method for doing things and knowing things that you can't understand the how's of it unless you touch a thingy and get that info wired right in. Which, by the way, not a fan of. Haven't touched anything so far."
hadthehighground: (sitting)

[personal profile] hadthehighground 2020-12-02 03:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Obi-Wan stood there and stared as he took all of this in. Then with a resigned shake of his head he sighed and sat upon an empty bunk.

“Of course. Far be it from this place to make any sort of sense.”

He wasn’t liking any of what he was hearing or seeing since he arrived. It was bad enough that he had brought here, and had certain expectations of him. Naturally nothing could be easy. Though he supposed he should be glad that an info download into his brain was available at all.
deal_me_in: (This is my serious face)

[personal profile] deal_me_in 2020-12-02 05:19 pm (UTC)(link)
The Hunter Vanguard spread his hands with a shrug. "Well hey, on the brightside, you're not going to find out the hard way on the account there've been people here before us who already have." He likes looking towards the positive.

"...then there are things that you still can't quite prepare for, even with all the head-ups. But I guess we deal. Not much other choice, right?"

He drops down to sit at the foot of his own bed, draping an arm across a leg as he leans forward. "So what's your story? Long robes and a swish-swish fancy sword. -know where I can get one by the way?"
hadthehighground: (jedi master)

[personal profile] hadthehighground 2020-12-02 05:37 pm (UTC)(link)
“No, I suppose not. One more thing to accept.”

There was a lot that he has had to accept lately, and it didn’t make him feel any better about it. If not for his mental discipline as a Jedi, Obi-Wan would not be able to keep it together as well as he was. That was one thing he could control at least.

“It’s not a story worth telling,” he says quietly, pulling the robe around himself a bit more. “Especially as it doesn’t have a happy ending.”

Talking about his past was not something he was up to at the moment. Particularly to someone he had only just met.
deal_me_in: (We were in a meeting about something)

[personal profile] deal_me_in 2020-12-02 05:45 pm (UTC)(link)
That's something Cayde can totally understand. His metal features soften slightly from the jovial expression that seemed to be his default, and nodding, he sits back a bit.

"Fair," he says. "Okay then. Anything else you might need the rundown on?"
hadthehighground: (pensive)

[personal profile] hadthehighground 2020-12-02 06:19 pm (UTC)(link)
"No, not right now."

He was already a bit overwhelmed by what all he had learned so far. Not to mention still coping with... a great deal of things. There was a pause and he looked down for a moment, before inclining his gaze back towards Cayde.

"Would you mind if I rested here for awhile?"

He hadn't slept a bit since he arrived, and this looked like the safest and most comfortable place he had come across yet.
deal_me_in: (That moment when you think...)

[personal profile] deal_me_in 2020-12-02 06:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Poor guy. Cayde's been used to hitting the ground running, rolling with the punches- just...having the need to keep doing, maybe in a way because he just doesn't want the time to catch up and be saddled with thinking too much on just how much can't be done.

"Oh- no, go right ahead. I'll let you get some shut-eye," he says, gesturing for the Jedi to do as he pleases. He gets up again, grabbing the gun from his bed so he can let Ben have his quiet.

(no subject)
