Town meeting discussion (part 1?)

I talked about this on Discord some, but I wanted to make sure there was a post all players could see and join in the discussion - Ezra, after talking about it with a few people, is going to call a town meeting/get together to talk about rebuilding, exploration, and what other goals the residents collectively might want to bring up.

HE'S going to think of it as an open forum that he's just the catalyst for, not something he's in charge of. I certainly don't have a particular end point or result in mind. Structurally, in the next day or so, I plan to put a log up describing how he calls things together and a bit about what he says when people show up, with possibly some thread starters for topics and mingling.

However, I am definitely open to suggestions on how to do this. I know big group things are hard to do in this format. I don't want people to feel left out or railroaded. If you don't have the time to write out a lot in character, or your character wouldn't show up, feel free to drop a comment here. This post can partly work like a focused handwaved CR meme, I think. If actually voting on a topic IC is something that comes up, we could also do polls here, or on future editions of posts like this.

Does that make sense? Have at with questions, comments, concerns.

Cobb will talk about where they've decided to fix up some houses.

"Blue 21. Residences - Subdivision
Surprisingly well-preserved! These residences are among the largest and most intact in the whole city. Nothing works, but you will have a roof over your head and shelter from the elements. The walls of these homes are fairly thick. Furnishings and materials are in good supply here."

Thanks to previous efforts in game the power is back on in this section. So is water. With a little touches up here and there people can have houses pretty quickly.

He will also cover his plants to ranch glownies and begin killing them for a reliable meat source.

And that's it for what he's up to.

An opening summary and then different starters sounds most ideal. Maybe like, Intros (people wanting to say what they can chip in with, skills etc), Projects, Concerns, Etc.? And then people can just tag in under corresponding starters and everyone goes from there.

Alternatively if people just want to throw in their summary of what they'd propose/would be doing at the meeting on this planning post, it and the results of whoever may jump in on things or whatever can be resummarized and added in on the actual log just so everything will be in one spot?

Agreed on having different TLs for different bits of the meeting!

Open forum-mingle-style with sub-threads sounds good. And we can possibly assume that everyone present can hear what everyone else is talking about without getting directly involved in the threads.

I will put this here since I don't know how much I get to tag in it due to work/being a tad sick at the moment:

Jon will attend, but for the most part to listen to what others have to report and what plans are being made and keep notes on who is around, who does what and keep a general headcount. He approves of this sort of meeting to share what crucial information they may have to share among one-another and will do make audio- and video-records of the meeting to store in the library for future reference.

He will speak up to actually share this video and share the information surrounding the events that have taken place involving the Agrii Rescue that not everyone currently around has been present for. Not everyone around has met the Agrii or knows about the vanished singing core.

Another thing for Jon to bring up is the tower at the North-West corner of the city that used to be the original location of the blinking light that has now reappeared outside the city. He still assumes that the tower/light has connected to the energy storms and that the meddling of him, Tony and Cayde may have broken the original tower. Which is still there and could potentially get dismantled.

Adding another vote for open forum-mingle-style with sub-threads. Also a thread specifically for intros without the need to thread. Like 'person X is here' just to indicate a character is at the meeting and can therefore hear what's being discussed.

All of this sounds good to me.

Obi-Wan will mostly be listening but he will bring up the temple project and his intentions for it. Inviting people again to help if they want to. Otherwise he will probably just comment when he feels the need.

Grogu will be there with Din... but good luck understanding any of his contributions.

Eddie will be there... but mostly to spectate. He might chime in with some of his risk analysis and/or worrywart thoughts.

Padme will be there with a notebook and THOUGHTS. However! She is going to wait until she hears what everyone else has to say before she voices any of them. She's still one of the new kids in town, so she wants to hear what those who have been here longer have to say before chiming in. She doesn't want to step on any toes and wants to learn from experience. That being said, she will have suggestions about potential committee(s) when the topic comes up.

I vote for open forum style.

Din'll be there, mostly listening. But he'll chime in when he feels he needs to.

My first thought is on voting. When it comes about, instead of being in here, I think it should be set up as a poll added to the OOC comm, locked only to members. It is possible to set up polls so that who voted for what isn't obvious if the group decides for secret ballot, and by setting it up for the comm lock only, every one would be able to vote independently for each character they had that was present. These polls do allow people to change votes too. It's easy to manage that way.

It may also be valuable for there to be a TL in here, or some other OOC forum, that summarizes conversations had to allow people to know where conversations go so people don't have to read everything to feel they are properly educated on the full conversation.

As for other things: Reeve will once again (as he has done before but before most people here now were here) be offering his assistance on rebuilding and planning efforts given the fact that he's an experienced architect and city planner, not to mention having many years of experience of organizing rebuilding efforts in ruins like this. He will be very proactive in his plans, as well as reminding people that while he is personally focused on their comfort because that is what he can assist with, there still needs to be focus on solving the problem that brought them here.

Lauri-Ell is going to suggest that those leaving the city to explore or do other things, either make sure to take Security data point or there be a system for those who are armed/combat capable can go with them and assist because she believes the storms must come from away. She knows that her people use terraforming and atmospheric control to create agreeable climates and is of the opinion this is the source of the problem. She would vocally suggest that people start making parties for further from the city exploration now that weather is kinder/more seasonable.

Tommy's going ot listen, mock organization, and probably throw wrench into the works because of who he is but is also going to probably snark people. This guy also has the biggest potential to create problems because he's pretty seriously anti-establishment/government/etc because he doesn't trust people who want power/leadership.

They probably will. Tommy didn't even really respect Steve Rogers and Cap was a big leader back home that he actually followed into fights. I can't see him respecting things here.

Damn I need to get Din more Lauri-ell cr, as a fellow warrior type. He'd approve of the idea for sure.

Tommy's from the USA. Nope, no faith in democratic models either. His opinion is that those who desire power/leadership of a group of anything more than ten people should not be trusted. If it's not small enough to be a super hero team or a family dinner, it's a flawed structure.

Notes from Ang - (Aeon & Clarice)

[personal profile] thesepreciousthings 2021-04-16 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
As someone who used to run an in-game security group for a larger RP with bi-monthly meetings .... I can thoroughly recommend the log with sub-sections for mingling and each topic of discussion. We're a MUCH smaller game so I don't see it being nearly as much a case of herding cats (sorry, Catra) but it makes it easy for people to skim and read sections that they're most interested in.

If it isn't brought up by others, Clarice would be very keen on finding out what people's specializations are. She'll also share that she brought back some basic building materials, and the heftier, hardier stuff is being kept in the hangar, and more fragile supplies are being stored in the library. Right now she'll be planning on pitching in to help Tommy at the diner, getting the things they brought back from Coruscant set up, and then volunteering to divide her other time wherever else it's needed: the new temple, Cobb's housing project, whichever. She may also offer to help keep a master inventory of supplies since there are going to be multiple construction/repair projects going on.

Aeon will show up out of sheer curiosity, possibly bond with Tommy over distaste for Big Government, and then bail because yawn.
