SUMMER TEST DRIVE MEME
Application FAQ | Taken Characters | Reserves | Application

Welcome to the Current Test Drive for The Revival Project!

This game is a spin-off from the closed The Drift Fleet game. For more information about the game, including more details on the setting, please check out the FAQ here or the premise here.

A thread on the TDM will be required for all applications. Please view the FAQ for information about how this works. Any questions about the game please direct to the comment section of the FAQ as well.

If you are a Drift Fleet alumni bringing your character from the game, please label your character as 'DFAU' on your top level. Also, keep in mind you have complete flexibility on how your character comes here. They could be taken before endgame, after endgame, two years after, one year before, etc. It's up to you! If you want to completely restart your character, they're not considered DFAU anymore and won't need the label.

So go! Explore Agra 10! And, as always, HAVE FUN!

Thread ideas:

Hot Summer Time!
Summer has arrived and you know what that means: It's time to head out and spend some time at the beach, lounging on its bluish, almost purple sand, going for a swim or gathering some of the fat, green lobsters just wandering around the beach. They may be tasty, but remember that their pinch is toxic. It won’t kill you but it will definitely have the pinched body part swelling up and itching like a bad wool sweater.

If hunting for food isn't what you came here for, then sunbathing is always an option. Even if the color seems odd, this sand, also, likes to go literally everywhere.

Simply hopping into the water is also rarely a bad idea. This close to the coast there are no harmful creatures in the water, so whether you brought a swim suit, hop in fully clothed or have no care in the world about who might stumble over you naked, Agra 10's ocean is yours to play in.

Explore the city!
Here's a map and a bit more description of some of the buildings here.

Most of the buildings are run down and have clearly been abandoned for years; fortunately, the water treatment center appears to be working, but power is intermittent and unreliable. What used to be stores or places to live in lies in ruins, but there may still be something to scavenge among the rubble. Do you want to risk a swim in the flooded area that has turned into a deep lake that has yet to be fully explored; or does it draw you to some of the more prominent and partially restored buildings, such as the hotel, the hospital or the amphitheater.

If you are lucky, you might even stumble over The Deep End, the bar located on one of the mid-levels of the tower residences in one of the residence towers. Unfortunately no bright neon signs can lead you there, but it does exist.

Visit the spaceships!
That's right, there are currently several small spaceships grounded in the hangar - Or what remains of them. It's painfully obvious that these ships have crash-landed not too long ago and were taken back to the hangar for repairs. You were assigned to one of them and its doors will open for you and let you enter if you wish. (For test drive purposes, the ship that will let you enter is up to you, so just pick whichever name appeals, and go for it!) The other ships won't open for you, but as neither of them look as if they will be leaving anytime soon that doesn't really matter either way.

Maybe look around anyway. Or try your hand at some repairs?

Try the network!
Upon arrival, your character will have on their person a small, handheld communications device. Maybe they know exactly how to use a computer, smartphone, or tablet, and immediately blast out a text or video trying to figure out what's going on. Or maybe they're not so tech-savvy after all, and everyone is about to get a lovely shot right up your character's left nostril.

There be storms...
These power-altering storms keep ravaging parts of the planet every once in a while. No one truly knows where they come from or what to do about them yet, but one of them appears to be approaching. You have the option to find shelter in one of the buildings to wait for it to pass. Unless, of course, you rather feel drawn to investigate.

Should you step inside the storm, or even get lost in it, it will show ghosts of people you know and those you don't. It drains you of any super-human abilities and tries its best to keep you from getting to its origin. Are you going to try anyways? Or are you going to chase the whispers of people from your past? Maybe you will simply find yourself calling for help or stumble across another lost soul in need of assistance.

More information can be found here.

Wildcard!
You're welcome to use any previous test drive scenarios or previous game events as a basis for a thread/situation, or simply make up your own! Keep in mind that you're currently stranded on a planet with only basic necessities, but there is enough food and fresh water. Creature comforts, however, seem to be distinctly lacking. Quite unlike a gathering of potentially dangerous creatures to encounter. The setting is yours to explore and have fun with!

You'd like it, I'm sure. You can come with me once I find a way back to Portorosso. [ He sounds so sure about it. Alberto wants to go back to his friends and he will try his best to accomplish that. ]

A seedy part of town? Were you a runaway too? [ There's no judgment on his tone, only honest curiosity. She really sounds happy about it and that's throwing him off because Luca had been the opposite. ]

You're missing out, those are great. I never had Mantell Mix either, but perhaps there's some around the city. We can check it out once the storm goes away. You went on missions? To do what?

[ Alberto tugs on the root to try and cut it from the rest of the plant it's attached to, but it's almost a thick as his arm, so it's easier said than done. Tongue sticking out of his mouth, he tugs harder but the root is still not budging. Some help here, Omega, please? ]

That sucks. Now you can do anything you want here. Who's going to stop you? [ Certainly not Alberto. ]

I'd love to see it. I'm sure the rest of my friends would too.

[If they were here, anyway. She's not sure how easy it would be to all go visit Alberto's town, but it doesn't seem an impossible thing for everyone to meet up some how. This after all ranks as pretty impossible as it is.]

I... No, well. Kind of? We did leave home, but it was too dangerous to stay. Things just weren't the same any more.

[She has no regrets about it. These strange circumstances aside, she's been pretty happy where she's come to be, with her friends.]

Food sounds pretty good, actually. I wonder what they have to eat around here.

The missions we'd go on so far have been mostly retrieval- getting things from dangerous places.

[As she sees Alberto tug at the root with not much result, she steps over to help, reaching over to grab a hold of the root with him to help pull.]

I guess I could. But I'm not sure what I want to do. Well, except be with my squad.
silenziobruno: (I'll wait)

[personal profile] silenziobruno 2021-07-13 08:18 pm (UTC)(link)
What are their names? What they look like?

[ He has no idea either if it's possible, when he touched that strange orb it didn't give him any information about how to go back. In fact, it seemed to insist that they couldn't, but it's not as if such a thing is going to change Alberto's mind. ]

Ah, yeah I'm familiar with that. Sometimes things just go sideways. [ He wonders what exactly happened, but that's probably a conversation for when they're warmer and dry. ] There are plants, so there must be fruit somewhere. And if there's an ocean, I can go fishing. [ He would usually tell people that he doesn't know how to swim as to not risk water changing him in front of humans, but Omega already knows what he is. There's no point in playing dumb. And besides, she's nice and alone like him, they need to look after one another. ]

Ohhh, like treasure hunts? That's fun. [ Omega helping does the trick, they only have to pull a couple of times for the root to give in under the combined strength. It finally breaks from the rest of the plant, and Alberto gives her a bright smile. ]

You have time to think about it. There must be something, it's only a matter of figuring out what. [ Alberto inspects the root with a critical eye and starts bending one of the ends to make it snap. ] We only need to break it into smaller pieces now and set them on fire, the root is long and dry enough.

Well, there's Hunter. He's our sergeant, and great at tracking things. He has a half a skull tattooed on his face and wears a bandanna. And then there's Tech, who always wears goggles. He's always ready to tell you all the facts about everything. He also pilots our ship. Echo is always serious. He had an accident a long time ago, so he's only got one hand, but he can do a lot of things with the other because it's like a droid attachment. And then Wrecker, he's the tallest and biggest. He can lift almost anything! And he likes to blow things up. But he's also the one that takes me to get a snack after our missions. It's our tradition.

[Omega looks happily accomplished, having helped Alberto break off the root. She watches closely as he sets about preparing it for a fire.]

What's fishing?

[She laughs wryly.] Well...I don't know about it being a treasure hunt. And most of the time something's shooting at us, so maybe not exactly fun either. But we need to make credits so we can pay Cid, and the jobs she finds for us aren't easy.

I've never started a fire before. How does that work?
silenziobruno: (Sea creature - YAY :D)

[personal profile] silenziobruno 2021-07-14 01:24 pm (UTC)(link)
A skull tattoo on his face? Woah, that must look incredible. Massimo, my friend's dad, also has one arm, but he was born like that. But what's a droid? Wrecker sounds fun to hang out with.

[ They're one step closer to be able to make fire. He keeps fiddling with the root as they speak, twisting it and snapping it into smaller pieces, making good use of his claws to do so. ]

How come you don't know what fishing is, but you said that Tech pilots your ship? Are there no fish in your world even if there's an ocean? That's strange. [ He's assuming that when Omega says 'ship' what she means is 'boat' because that's the only kind he knows. ]

It isn't truly an adventure if there isn't a little risk, but shooting is a bit too much. Why are people so mad at you all? You're not human either? [ At the fire question, Alberto starts to put the broken pieces of root together in a small pile in the middle of the floor. ]

There are different ways but first, you need bark, dry wood, paper, or leaves to make a tinder nest. The last two burn too quickly, so they're not great options if you want to keep the fire going. If we had some glass, like a bottle, and it was sunny, we could use it to light the fire. You just hold it over the tinder nest, a bright dot will appear and after a little time, the sunlight that goes through the glass will start burning the wood. [ It goes without saying that they can't use that here inside the store and during a storm, so that leaves the other option. ] We will need to start the fire with a rock and something made of metal, it might take a bit longer.

[ Alberto's tail wags behind him as he continues with the explanation of how not all rocks are helpful to start a fire, - using a flint is the most useful, but that might be hard to find inside the store - and how they need to hit the metal at an angle close to the tinder nest to make sparks. ]

I can look around for the right stone, you can try to find some metal. It doesn't need to be big or anything.

[ Enjoys your 101 survival class, Omega. ]
small_compromise: (you sure?)

[personal profile] small_compromise 2021-07-14 05:39 pm (UTC)(link)
A droid's... a droid? Mechanical. They can do things that you program them to do, like fix things and assist you with jobs. But they also have their own personalities.

Oh, Wrecker is a lot of fun. I think you'd like him.

[Omega goes to tug at the curtains so she can keep a little warm while she watches Alberto work.]

What's fishing have to do with ships? I've never actually been in the water so I don't know what's down there. There's... a lot I haven't done before.

[She huddles under the blanket, hugging her knees.]

That's...kind of a complicated question. I mean, we're human. But we're not really normal, I guess. A lot of stuff has happened in our galaxy. There was a big war, but it's over now, and everything's changing because of who's taken charge.

[At least Alberto will find her a willing and attentive student. She listens to everything he has to say about starting a fire, from tinder to tools. When she's asked to help again she extracts herself from the curtain and starts to look around.]

Glass can do that though? That sounds amazing...

[She keeps her an eye out for any glass while seeking out some metal. Maybe it'd come in handy some time? Her searching takes her closer towards the window they'd entered through, and she wishes she had a light with her.]

[ If the look on the boy's face is any indication, it's clear that her explanation about droids doesn't right a bell at first. When it finally clicks, he gives a while smile that makes his pointy teeth visible. ]

Ah! It's a robot? It must be really useful to have a robot that can help you with tasks. I didn't know they could have personalities, but I suppose it makes sense, everyone does.

Perhaps he's around, and you haven't found him just yet. If he is, you can introduce us.

[ Alberto gives her a sympathetic look when Omega tries to keep herself warm. The storm outside is still ragging, the wind giving no indications of stopping anytime soon, and Alberto wonders if they will have to stay the night here. It looks like it. ]

Uh, everything? You use the ships to go into the sea, wait there until the fish get into the nets, fill the ship and then carry them back to the shore. You don't know how to swim, then?

[ He quickly gets the feeling that he asked the wrong things, and his fins lower a little as he breaks the last part of the root. While paying Omega attention, he starts pilling the pieces into a tinder net but ]

I'm sorry, wars are always bad. My people don't have a lot, but I know it often happens among land dwellers. [ He almost feels bad again for asking her to look for the metal, but that way they will get things going faster. Moving around could help Omega to stay warm. ] It does, that's why you need to be careful with leaving it around. It could burn everything down if you're not paying attention. Glass is very pretty, and it comes in different colors. I wish I knew how it's made.

[ There's a lot of dust and broken things around, most of them Alberto has never seen before. He has to scratch and knock on a few places to try and figure out if whatever he's looking at is made of metal, rocks, or some other material. A crumbled wall gets his attention, and he starts looking there. ]

Do you know what a telescope is? It has a glass in it to that lets you see the fishes in the sky up close, Luca told me about it. He called them stars, though.

Some of them don't have much of one, but that makes them scarier in a way. I used to work a lot with a medical droid named A-Zee. He was always pretty concerned for a droid, but I liked him. I don't know what happened to him after we left though.

But there's another droid on our ship called Gonky. Wrecker uses him for weight-lifting sometimes.

[She frowns a bit.]

I'm sure I would've heard if he were around. He's really hard to miss.

[Stooping down, she dusts off something that looks a little shiny. Some kind of alien utensil of sorts? She sneezes.]

-the sea? Oh no, we use our ship to fly through space. I've never gone swimming though, no. Could you teach me? You must be a really good swimmer.

[He said he could see underwater and that his people lived there, after all.

Getting to her feet, she walks over, holding out the bit of metal she'd found.
]

Will this work?

I've never heard anyone call stars fish. But I guess if you've never gone up past the skies, one could think they were anything. And there are so many stars out there in space. You're just surrounded by it all.

Hm, I can see how that would be weird. If they know medicine, can they learn other things? Do droids ever play? Maybe these droids are also around, just like your other friends. This city is so big, we can't know it for sure just yet.

[ Alberto is grabbing different pieces of the wall, inspecting them, and then letting them fall when it's clear they will be of no use. He replies a 'Salute!' when she sneezes and then nods at Omega's question, his tail waving a little. ]

Through space? Oh, I need to get me a ship like that one. Luca would love it. [ Why, yes, that's the main reason why Alberto wants one now, so he can show space to his friend. ] Sure! I'm the best at swimming, you'll see. I'll teach you everything. I've seen how some humans swim and boy, do you need help.

[ He planned on teaching Giulia once she was back in Portorosso the next summer but maybe that won't be possible anymore. It saddens him to think about it and teaching Omega instead will be a good distraction. When the girl approaches, Alberto has collected tree different rocks in his hands, hoping that one will do the trick, and then looks over at her offering and nods. ]

That might work, yes. Good find. [ Holding the rocks to his chest with one webbed hand, he takes the metal and smiles at her.

Now it's a matter to start the fire, so they move closer to the piled roots. It's harder than it looks, the conditions being less than ideal, and Omega might want to wrap herself with the curtain again as he works. The first rock is a total failure, it breaks when Alberto slides it over the metal piece, prompting the sea monster to make a small, displeased hissing sound. The second rock resists and after the fifth time dragging it over the metal, sparks start flying. The wood eventually catches on fire and Alberto lets out a triumphant sound. ]

Hah! There it is. Come closer, you'll feel better once you're dry.
small_compromise: (yeah!)

[personal profile] small_compromise 2021-07-20 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
They can learn lots of things. I'm sure they'd play if they were allowed. The Kaminoans were pretty strict about things. They're all very focused on their jobs. Oh, but Gonky knows how to have fun, I think. He's a good droid.

Who's Luca? A friend of yours?

[She looks excited at the prospect of learning to swim, but at the moment she'd rather get dried off and warm.

After handing off her find to Alberto, she crawls back under the curtain to watch him work, her face set in such a way that it seems she's trying to help start the fire by just staring it into existence. It's a little disappointing at first, but once the sparks catch, even Omega lets out a small whoop.
]

That was amazing!

[She scoots closer to the fire, already feeling the difference, slight as it is.]

Life's boring if you follow rules and work all the time, who needs those? And yes, Luca is the best. I've met him this summer, he wanted to see the world, so we planned on getting our own Vespa and travel everywhere. [ And then a whole lot of more complicated things happened that Alberto isn't too keen on talking about because it's really not the time and place for that. ] He likes space a lot, I think he would have liked talking to you about it.

[ Maybe Luca is in the city too but part of him doesn't fully believe that idea because Alberto never had that kind of luck. He'd rather focus on learning more about Omega instead now that the fire will keep them both warmer. ]

Told you I could do it. [ He grins, fins playfully flaring a little. The fire isn't much, but it's a good start. His tail curls a little around himself because even if he can stand the cold better than Omega, he can still feel it. ]

Do you think we could find one of these ships your friend use and go back to our homes?
