This game is a spin-off from the closed The Drift Fleet game. For more information about the game, including more details on the setting, please check out the FAQ here or the premise here.

A thread on the TDM will be required for all applications. Please view the FAQ for information about how this works. Any questions about the game please direct to the comment section of the FAQ as well.

If you are a Drift Fleet alumni bringing your character from the game, please label your character as 'DFAU' on your top level. Also, keep in mind you have complete flexibility on how your character comes here. They could be taken before endgame, after endgame, two years after, one year before, etc. It's up to you! If you want to completely restart your character, they're not considered DFAU anymore and won't need the label.

Hot Summer Time!

Summer has arrived and you know what that means: It's time to head out and spend some time at the beach, lounging on its bluish, almost purple sand, going for a swim or gathering some of the fat, green lobsters just wandering around the beach. They may be tasty, but remember that their pinch is toxic. It won’t kill you but it will definitely have the pinched body part swelling up and itching like a bad wool sweater.

If hunting for food isn't what you came here for, then sunbathing is always an option. Even if the color seems odd, this sand, also, likes to go literally everywhere.

Simply hopping into the water is also rarely a bad idea. This close to the coast there are no harmful creatures in the water, so whether you brought a swim suit, hop in fully clothed or have no care in the world about who might stumble over you naked, Agra 10's ocean is yours to play in.

Explore the city!

Here's a map and a bit more description of some of the buildings here.

Most of the buildings are run down and have clearly been abandoned for years; fortunately, the water treatment center appears to be working, but power is intermittent and unreliable. What used to be stores or places to live in lies in ruins, but there may still be something to scavenge among the rubble. Do you want to risk a swim in the flooded area that has turned into a deep lake that has yet to be fully explored; or does it draw you to some of the more prominent and partially restored buildings, such as the hotel, the hospital or the amphitheater.

If you are lucky, you might even stumble over The Deep End, the bar located on one of the mid-levels of the tower residences in one of the residence towers. Unfortunately no bright neon signs can lead you there, but it does exist.

Visit the spaceships!

That's right, there are currently several small spaceships grounded in the hangar - Or what remains of them. It's painfully obvious that these ships have crash-landed not too long ago and were taken back to the hangar for repairs. You were assigned to one of them and its doors will open for you and let you enter if you wish. (For test drive purposes, the ship that will let you enter is up to you, so just pick whichever name appeals, and go for it!) The other ships won't open for you, but as neither of them look as if they will be leaving anytime soon that doesn't really matter either way.

Maybe look around anyway. Or try your hand at some repairs?

Try the network!

Upon arrival, your character will have on their person a small, handheld communications device. Maybe they know exactly how to use a computer, smartphone, or tablet, and immediately blast out a text or video trying to figure out what's going on. Or maybe they're not so tech-savvy after all, and everyone is about to get a lovely shot right up your character's left nostril.

There be storms...

These power-altering storms keep ravaging parts of the planet every once in a while. No one truly knows where they come from or what to do about them yet, but one of them appears to be approaching. You have the option to find shelter in one of the buildings to wait for it to pass. Unless, of course, you rather feel drawn to investigate.

Should you step inside the storm, or even get lost in it, it will show ghosts of people you know and those you don't. It drains you of any super-human abilities and tries its best to keep you from getting to its origin. Are you going to try anyways? Or are you going to chase the whispers of people from your past? Maybe you will simply find yourself calling for help or stumble across another lost soul in need of assistance.

Wildcard!

You're welcome to use any previous test drive scenarios or previous game events as a basis for a thread/situation, or simply make up your own! Keep in mind that you're currently stranded on a planet with only basic necessities, but there is enough food and fresh water. Creature comforts, however, seem to be distinctly lacking. Quite unlike a gathering of potentially dangerous creatures to encounter. The setting is yours to explore and have fun with!

As soon as Lauri-Ell sits down Usagi doesn't waste any time cramming a big forkful of food into her mouth, her expression trying not to betray the thoughts of having to eat vegetables. It's better than nothing though.

When the other woman offers to let Usagi answer questions Usagi has her mouth full of food, a piece of lettuce peeking out at one corner of her mouth. Definitely regal behavior of a future queen. But with almost superhuman speed it's swallowed as she leans forward.

"What are we supposed to do to rebuild the city? I'm just a high school student so I'm not sure what they want from me," she pokes at her remaining food with a wistful smile.

"at this point, we are nto sure that rebuilding is the correct option. Which is not to say that it isn't needed, that people aren't needed who are willing to be healers or farmers or other things. Some of us, like myself, protect others. But mostly we believe there is something going on, some force behind those who brought us who made this planet bad for them."

ANd they had to find out how to stop that badness.

"We try and live, we try and figure out what is wrong, and we try and save people."

Usagi is quiet for a moment, slowly chewing her food. It doesn't take her long to come to her decision as she absentmindedly touched the brooch on the front bow of her uniform.

And then she smiles, her eyes determined as she nods. "I can help with that. At least, the best that I can." But then there is the matter of food and Usagi still has the manners of a teenager- it doesn't take long for her to clean her plate.

There were many ways to help, so since Lauri-Ell did not know which the young woman meant, she just smiled and nodded.

"There are ways to gain knowledge here. Orbs that, when touched, give you knowledge and skills. Some do not like them, but they do help give us what we need to succeed. Or so we hope.

"What kind of knowledge?" Touching orbs sounds a lot easier than having to study for exams the night before. If she could just touch some orb then passing English would be a lot easier and her mom wouldn't yell at her for her exam grades.

"There is medicine, mostly focused on the Agrii I believe, but adaptable from what William tells me. Agriculture, which is managing plants and animals and even cooking."

Those seem the best suited to a young woman, but she would continue anyway.

"Piloting for the space ships, Engineering for managing electronics and building of such. The communications point is supposed to let you manage the communication system. And finally security, which allows you to use the weapons provided."

And that was useful in Lauri-Ell's experience. But she was a soldier, so weapons was her focus.

"I bet I would be great at agriculture! I have a cat and I learned about planets from Makoto..." This time her voice hitches and Usagi can't hide the shimmer of tears in her eyes.

She was supposed to be strong, they would tell her not to cry because they would be together again but she can't stop it when more tears roll down her cheeks as her smile falters and fades.

"I thought I was strong enough to keep smiling. That's what my friends would want even now, even after everything. But I can't-"

Oh no. Lauri-Ell immediately got up from her seat and circled to offer the young woman a hug. That sort of grief, it was not merely distance, it was loss. She knew this for she had seen it many times before in the war. It was a soldier thing.

"I am sorry, Usagi, for your loss."

Usagi doesn't protest, wrapping her arms around Lauri-Ell. "I couldn't save her."

There are no sobs, just tears streaming down her cheeks. She's exhausted as if every part of her feels heavy. Even here the enemy holds power in her mind, holding her with fear and grief.

No young woman should feel like this. None should know this suffering. And yet it was so common. And no less powerful for the shared pain the worlds will always know. So her hand strokes the girl's back as she holds her.

"I do not doubt that she does not blame you."

She feels a little bad for crying on a stranger- they have only known each other for a bit but she feels comforted, letting herself take comfort in her arms.

"Mako-chan would never blame me." Her friends had absolute faith in her which only made her feel worse about letting them down. "She's always been by side- I don't know what I'll do without her and the others."

"You aren't alone," Lauri-Ell promises, her voice soft but strong as she holds the young woman. "We will keep you safe and strong until one day you can return to the arms of the people who care for you."

"Thank you, Lauri-Ell. I'm glad to have met you." Usagi meant it, Lauri-Ell was already a dear friend and she would do the same to the best of her abilities.

Eventually, the sobs subside, the tears slowly drying on her cheeks.

"And I you," Lauri-Ell agreed. The more people she met, the better she was at dealing with them all in her opinion.

For now, though, she continued to hold the young woman, because clearly she was not ready to let go yet.

"When you are ready, we should help you find a place you will be happy staying."

Usagi nods, deciding that she's not hungry anymore. "I was aside a ship but I forget which one," she admitted with a tired smile as she tries her eyes the best she could.

She couldn't cry, she had to be strong while others needed her. She had lost friends, she would never forget them, but she knew Ami and Makoto would want her to keep going no matter what.

"I think, for now, you could use more privacy," Lauri-Ell thinks. Anyone could come upon the girl in her grief too easily on a ship. They could find a better thing for now rather than walking all the way to the hangar.

"There are spaces in the hotel that are still in a nice state. They are more private spaces. Perhaps we can take you there?"

She nods and the smile is on her face though her eyes are red and puffy. "Alright. That would be nice."

She could use some peace and quiet to try to recover from the events of the day she had just gone through- everything felt so fresh and starting to feel surreal as if she was floating in a dream.

Nice, yes, that would be the best choice. Lauri-Ell released the young woman and offered her arm.

"Allow me to escort you then."

She couldn't help it, she liked helping people. Especially women who needed a moment to gain the strength back to stand on their own

Usagi gratefully takes Lauri-Ell's arm- she may be able to walk on her own but she knows that she is stronger when she has help from a friend to walk beside her.

When they reach the hotel Usagi is distracted as she looks around, letting Lauri-Ell lead her to one of the rooms. "How can I talk to you again tomorrow? I could use a guide to help show me around more so I can find my way."

"When you arrived at the fountain, there was a communication device, yes?" Lauri-Ell said as she guided Usagi to one of the first floor rooms. This one had actually had a door restored to it, and once it had been Lauri-Ell's. "There will be a button on it, pink with a yellow cross and green leaves. If you select that and my name, it will allow you to contact me."

She does not know if the girl even knows about phones. She would happily show her.

Usagi had just shoved the phone into the pocket of her uniform skirt but pulls it out now to peer at it more closely. It doesn't seem that complicated and she follows the directions given, able to find the other woman's name.

"Ok! I'll let you know when I'm awake tomorrow," Usagi promises as she looks up from the phone, smiling a little more.

"I'll come to find you then," Lauri-Ell promised. "We'll have breakfast, and I'll help you learn the city. And if you need me tonight, you may call."

To see a good young woman like this, so powerless and hurting, it moved her heart.
