SUMMER TEST DRIVE MEME
Application FAQ | Taken Characters | Reserves | Application

Welcome to the Current Test Drive for The Revival Project!

This game is a spin-off from the closed The Drift Fleet game. For more information about the game, including more details on the setting, please check out the FAQ here or the premise here.

A thread on the TDM will be required for all applications. Please view the FAQ for information about how this works. Any questions about the game please direct to the comment section of the FAQ as well.

If you are a Drift Fleet alumni bringing your character from the game, please label your character as 'DFAU' on your top level. Also, keep in mind you have complete flexibility on how your character comes here. They could be taken before endgame, after endgame, two years after, one year before, etc. It's up to you! If you want to completely restart your character, they're not considered DFAU anymore and won't need the label.

So go! Explore Agra 10! And, as always, HAVE FUN!

Thread ideas:

Hot Summer Time!
Summer has arrived and you know what that means: It's time to head out and spend some time at the beach, lounging on its bluish, almost purple sand, going for a swim or gathering some of the fat, green lobsters just wandering around the beach. They may be tasty, but remember that their pinch is toxic. It won’t kill you but it will definitely have the pinched body part swelling up and itching like a bad wool sweater.

If hunting for food isn't what you came here for, then sunbathing is always an option. Even if the color seems odd, this sand, also, likes to go literally everywhere.

Simply hopping into the water is also rarely a bad idea. This close to the coast there are no harmful creatures in the water, so whether you brought a swim suit, hop in fully clothed or have no care in the world about who might stumble over you naked, Agra 10's ocean is yours to play in.

Explore the city!
Here's a map and a bit more description of some of the buildings here.

Most of the buildings are run down and have clearly been abandoned for years; fortunately, the water treatment center appears to be working, but power is intermittent and unreliable. What used to be stores or places to live in lies in ruins, but there may still be something to scavenge among the rubble. Do you want to risk a swim in the flooded area that has turned into a deep lake that has yet to be fully explored; or does it draw you to some of the more prominent and partially restored buildings, such as the hotel, the hospital or the amphitheater.

If you are lucky, you might even stumble over The Deep End, the bar located on one of the mid-levels of the tower residences in one of the residence towers. Unfortunately no bright neon signs can lead you there, but it does exist.

Visit the spaceships!
That's right, there are currently several small spaceships grounded in the hangar - Or what remains of them. It's painfully obvious that these ships have crash-landed not too long ago and were taken back to the hangar for repairs. You were assigned to one of them and its doors will open for you and let you enter if you wish. (For test drive purposes, the ship that will let you enter is up to you, so just pick whichever name appeals, and go for it!) The other ships won't open for you, but as neither of them look as if they will be leaving anytime soon that doesn't really matter either way.

Maybe look around anyway. Or try your hand at some repairs?

Try the network!
Upon arrival, your character will have on their person a small, handheld communications device. Maybe they know exactly how to use a computer, smartphone, or tablet, and immediately blast out a text or video trying to figure out what's going on. Or maybe they're not so tech-savvy after all, and everyone is about to get a lovely shot right up your character's left nostril.

There be storms...
These power-altering storms keep ravaging parts of the planet every once in a while. No one truly knows where they come from or what to do about them yet, but one of them appears to be approaching. You have the option to find shelter in one of the buildings to wait for it to pass. Unless, of course, you rather feel drawn to investigate.

Should you step inside the storm, or even get lost in it, it will show ghosts of people you know and those you don't. It drains you of any super-human abilities and tries its best to keep you from getting to its origin. Are you going to try anyways? Or are you going to chase the whispers of people from your past? Maybe you will simply find yourself calling for help or stumble across another lost soul in need of assistance.

More information can be found here.

Wildcard!
You're welcome to use any previous test drive scenarios or previous game events as a basis for a thread/situation, or simply make up your own! Keep in mind that you're currently stranded on a planet with only basic necessities, but there is enough food and fresh water. Creature comforts, however, seem to be distinctly lacking. Quite unlike a gathering of potentially dangerous creatures to encounter. The setting is yours to explore and have fun with!

He'd briefly if her interest in the stars was because she was a navigator. But if so, it doesn't sound like she was a navigator on a spaceship at least.

"First time to a different planet than the one you were born on?" he asks, genuinely curious, and then offers, "I was 14 the first time I left my home planet, and space travel's really common where I'm from."

"Oh, that's complicated. There are colony ships headed out to terraformed worlds. Signed up for one, actually. Remember the cryogenic suspension preparations, but woke up here, so. No, never made it to another planet. But not for lack of trying. What's your home planet?"

To her, one new planet's as good as another. She fell right off the Earth, trying to get away, and now away she's gotten. So she's much more at peace with the matter than some new arrivals are.

"Cryogenic suspension. Huh. It was supposed to be a long trip, then?" he guesses.

"Where I'm from, there are thousands of known inhabited worlds, with lots of different species of sapient life. And we have something called hyperdrives, which means it can take from hours to weeks to get to other systems near hyperlanes. I'm Lothal, which is...it's beautiful and I miss it," he says, wistfully. "But it's considered something of a backwater. Lots of farms and grassland."
pleiade: (smile)

[personal profile] pleiade 2021-08-02 07:09 pm (UTC)(link)
"Hyperlanes are real? Beyond theory?" Ezra has properly captured her attention now, eyes glimmering as she looks sharply at him, questions churning in her pale eyes.

"Physicists have been theorizing them for a while, but haven't worked out how to utilize them, so all trips have been the long way so far. Which is why cryogenics were invented and brought up to their current level."

As she's talking about the science-y stuff, she feels more 'present' than before. It's like there's a part of her that's always a little distant or hidden or...maybe even hollow, but that's harder to see when she's interested like this.

"Where I'm from there's been hyperspace travel for, oh, thousands of years. Legend has it that people figured out how to do from watching these big space creatures we call Purgill travel."

He breaks into a grin. "Well, I say legend. I've met Purgill, and they definitely have the ability to access hyperspace."

They'd showed him, mind to mind. He doesn't really understand any of the physics involved, not on a mathematical level. He just knows it works.

"Creatures who live in space? Do they not have a respiratory system? How do they survive out there?"

She puts her elbows on her knees, propping up her chin in her hands, clearly fascinated.

"Hmmm, I don't think the use oxygen at all. There's certain other gases they collect and store in their bodies. That's how I met them. They'd come to an asteroid belt with pockets of a gas that's also refined for starship fuel. But the refinery blocked the Purgill from gathering the gas. I helped them; they helped me. They're very different from human and similarly shaped species, but they're intelligent and social."

"It's good. That you were able to help them." She nods a bit, her smile lingering. "And...what do you do here, planet-side, without space-beasts to aid?"

"A bunch of things. There's a herd of animals we call glownies that I help take care of. We've started gathering their wool for weaving and I'm trying to figure out how much of their milk we use. I work in the greenhouse and have an outdoors garden, too. There's a mom who has infant twins, I try to help them out. And I'm a student. I didn't have great education in general growing up, and definitely have a lot to catch up to do on with my, uh, chosen vocation and adopted culture. But there's someone here who can teach me, and I've been working with him and a couple of other students. And there's just stuff that comes up as needed."
pleiade: (head-on)

[personal profile] pleiade 2021-08-03 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
Asterope nods quietly as she listens, even though it's clear some parts of what Ezra's saying (adopted culture???) that don't make sense at the moment. "You sound very responsible. Do you take time to relax too, with all that on your to-do list?"

There's a pause and a self-deprecating little smile. "Besides climbing on towers to talk to strange girls in the middle of the night, of course."

Ezra flushes a little at what strikes him as teasing, but doesn't protest.

"Yeah. I play basketball with Kyle and boardgames with Billy - and we had a big community party on the beach a month of so ago."

He doesn't add 'and I meditate and spar' because he's not sure whether that'll make sense to her, but they count in his book.

"Kyle, Billy? Not familiar yet. Still too new to have met much of anyone. Are...are they nice?" She almost sounds like she's not sure that's the right question to ask. Social norms? What even are those?
ezra_of_lothal: (Default)

[personal profile] ezra_of_lothal 2021-08-05 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
Ezra tilts his head thoughtfully.

"Yeah. Kyle can be a...a little loud sometimes? He can get...caught up in his feelings if he thinks someone isn't being fair, but that also means he tries very hard to be fair to everyone else. And Billy's really nice."
