This game is a spin-off from the closed The Drift Fleet game. For more information about the game, including more details on the setting, please check out the FAQ here or the premise here.

A thread on the TDM will be required for all applications. Please view the FAQ for information about how this works. Any questions about the game please direct to the comment section of the FAQ as well.

If you are a Drift Fleet alumni bringing your character from the game, please label your character as 'DFAU' on your top level. Also, keep in mind you have complete flexibility on how your character comes here. They could be taken before endgame, after endgame, two years after, one year before, etc. It's up to you! If you want to completely restart your character, they're not considered DFAU anymore and won't need the label.

Hot Summer Time!

Summer has arrived and you know what that means: It's time to head out and spend some time at the beach, lounging on its bluish, almost purple sand, going for a swim or gathering some of the fat, green lobsters just wandering around the beach. They may be tasty, but remember that their pinch is toxic. It won’t kill you but it will definitely have the pinched body part swelling up and itching like a bad wool sweater.

If hunting for food isn't what you came here for, then sunbathing is always an option. Even if the color seems odd, this sand, also, likes to go literally everywhere.

Simply hopping into the water is also rarely a bad idea. This close to the coast there are no harmful creatures in the water, so whether you brought a swim suit, hop in fully clothed or have no care in the world about who might stumble over you naked, Agra 10's ocean is yours to play in.

Explore the city!

Here's a map and a bit more description of some of the buildings here.

Most of the buildings are run down and have clearly been abandoned for years; fortunately, the water treatment center appears to be working, but power is intermittent and unreliable. What used to be stores or places to live in lies in ruins, but there may still be something to scavenge among the rubble. Do you want to risk a swim in the flooded area that has turned into a deep lake that has yet to be fully explored; or does it draw you to some of the more prominent and partially restored buildings, such as the hotel, the hospital or the amphitheater.

If you are lucky, you might even stumble over The Deep End, the bar located on one of the mid-levels of the tower residences in one of the residence towers. Unfortunately no bright neon signs can lead you there, but it does exist.

Visit the spaceships!

That's right, there are currently several small spaceships grounded in the hangar - Or what remains of them. It's painfully obvious that these ships have crash-landed not too long ago and were taken back to the hangar for repairs. You were assigned to one of them and its doors will open for you and let you enter if you wish. (For test drive purposes, the ship that will let you enter is up to you, so just pick whichever name appeals, and go for it!) The other ships won't open for you, but as neither of them look as if they will be leaving anytime soon that doesn't really matter either way.

Maybe look around anyway. Or try your hand at some repairs?

Try the network!

Upon arrival, your character will have on their person a small, handheld communications device. Maybe they know exactly how to use a computer, smartphone, or tablet, and immediately blast out a text or video trying to figure out what's going on. Or maybe they're not so tech-savvy after all, and everyone is about to get a lovely shot right up your character's left nostril.

There be storms...

These power-altering storms keep ravaging parts of the planet every once in a while. No one truly knows where they come from or what to do about them yet, but one of them appears to be approaching. You have the option to find shelter in one of the buildings to wait for it to pass. Unless, of course, you rather feel drawn to investigate.

Should you step inside the storm, or even get lost in it, it will show ghosts of people you know and those you don't. It drains you of any super-human abilities and tries its best to keep you from getting to its origin. Are you going to try anyways? Or are you going to chase the whispers of people from your past? Maybe you will simply find yourself calling for help or stumble across another lost soul in need of assistance.

You're welcome to use any previous test drive scenarios or previous game events as a basis for a thread/situation, or simply make up your own! Keep in mind that you're currently stranded on a planet with only basic necessities, but there is enough food and fresh water. Creature comforts, however, seem to be distinctly lacking. Quite unlike a gathering of potentially dangerous creatures to encounter. The setting is yours to explore and have fun with!

ARRIVAL; BEACH

[ Silenzio Bruno, silenzio Bruno, silenzio Bruno-

Luca keeps repeating that because he doesn't know what else he should be thinking or saying right now. Everything is so scary: he was pulled from his train to Genoa into a whole new world. He is aware there are many planets and many galaxies, but he didn't know he could just be pulled into one with no warning like this!

Luca's first instinct is to run to the ocean; perhaps he will find other sea creatures like him that can give him a hand. He worries about Giulia whom was on the train with him, and his thoughts also go to Alberto and his family, who stood behind at the train station.But there is no train and no trains station, so... maybe they aren't here.

Being alone is scary.

He finally arrives to the beach, panting from all the running. The problem is that there are more people around. he is a bit glad for it - he doesn't want to be the only one! - but now Luca is also pretty scared. If these people never saw a Sea Creature... they could hurt him. Even though the town of Portorosso has accepted them, he knows the rest of the world still doesn't know about them. Specially not a new planet.

Therefor, luca suddenly stops when he feet touch the sand, nervously looking around while he tugs at his shirt. What should he do, what should he do?!

Probably ask someone for help, yeah. So he approaches someone, awkwardly trying not to be in the way, but also trying to be noticed ]

U-uhm... I'm sorry I... I'm new here and I have some questions- [ oh this will go great ]

CITY

[ Once the initial freak out has subsided, Luca decides he should just mingle with the people that were also brought here. He heard of this thing called "aliens" which are people who live in other worlds and aren't human, so the thought is nice. Maybe he will meet non-human friends and so he won't have to hide, right?

Still, he does stick to his human look - well, he is on land after all - and avoids getting wet. Just in case these aliens are actually very much like humans and would be scared of Sea Monsters. Whoever passes by him will be greeted with a friendly "CIAO!" as Luca passes by, walking through the streets of Temba with a big smile and a confidence of a 13 year old boy that might crumble the moment someone looks at him wrong.

Anyone is welcome to talk to him, but otherwise Luca will just walk around aimlessly, trying to get to know the streets. Even if he is nervous and scared, Luca wants to learn about this place, so he will do his best ]

Network

[ Luca knows how to read, but OH BOY this is a whole new thing for him. Not even back in Portorosso they had these... communicator things. So he does what anyone his age would do when faced with something he has no clue how it works: he pokes it a lot. Taps the screen, sees things popping up, doesn't get what [REC] means and eventually a video of a kid is posted to the network ]

What does this even do.... maybe it's like a phone... [ he fills up his lungs with air and then screams into the communicator: ] HELLO, CAN YOU HEAR ME? [ no response though. ] ... maybe it's like a moving picture. [ yeah, maybe "communicator" is what they call movies. Maybe ]

!!!!!!!!!!!!! - Beach

[ It's been a few weeks since Alberto woke up on Tembla, and he goes to the beach daily. He figured that if another sea monster were to come here, instincts would tell them to go to the sea. He also feels safer with the water closer, a bit less lonely. It's not like Portorosso, of course, but at least the sea is familiar. He doesn't get into the water if there are people near, even his recklessness has a limit, and mostly just fishes at night or where no one can see him.

It worries him to not be able to go back, he doesn't want Luca, Giulia or Massimo thinking that he left them. Alberto would never have done that if he had a choice, and just thinking about them hurts. So, he tries to keep busy and distract himself. He's met some rather cool people so far: Robot men who could jump really high, a wizard, a really strong and tall blue lady...but none of them are; ]

Luca? [ Alberto freezes, staring at the person standing on the other side of the beach, because hell if it doesn't look like his best friend. The confusion only lasts a second. He drops everything he's carrying - which mainly consists of some of the sponge cakes that can be found deep underwater and soem wood he was going to use to start a fire later- and sprints towards the other boy like the devil himself is chasing him. ]

LUCA!

[ Someone's going to get tackle-hugged in a matter of seconds by a very excited, and teary eyed, sea monster. ]

[ he doesn't hear Alberto at first, the distance between the two doesn't allow him to. But when Alberto screams , Luca recognizes his name and -above all- the voice He looks around, trying to find where the scream is coming from, and when he finally spots Alberto running towards him, Luca gasps and starts running towards the other boy as well.

Luca's arms spread out and pretty much tackles his friend back, but Alberto ends up winning this tackle-hug-fight and Luca ends up falling back. And despite this, Luca laughs and somewhat sobs because his eyes are full of tears as well ]

Alberto!! You are here too!!

[silenziobruno]

[ They end rolling in the sand briefly, but it really doesn't matter. Alberto laughs as well, his arms wrapped around Luca's smaller frame. He's hugging the brunette a tad too tightly, but he can't help himself. ]

I can't believe you're here. I missed you so much. [ It hasn't been that long but hell, he was already missing Luca five minutes after he got into the train with Giulia, and he wasn't sure he would be able to see him again.

Reluctantly, he pulls back a little to look at Luca's face, tears streaming down his face, leaving little blue and purple scales on his cheeks. It's probably difficult to notice for the other people who might be at the beach, and at the moment Alberto can't bring himself to care. ]

Are you okay? I got here a few weeks ago. Everything is weird, but the people aren't so bad. I've met a cat that talks and a blue woman that is even taller than Massimo. [ It's all said in a hurry, as if there are just so many things going on in Alberto's mind for him to be able to tell them all in order. He takes a quick, shuddering breath and smiles, reaching down to give his friend's hands a squeeze. ] We're on a different planet, Luca! Like the ones from your books.

[miouniverso]

[ Luca laughs for a bit longer, specially at the tight hug. he doesn't particularly mind, even if he makes a small face when he almost can't breathe, but that only lasts a couple of seconds since Alberto pulls back after.

Seeing Alberto's tears reminds him of his own, so Luca quickly tries to dry them away before his hands reach for his best friend's face to do the same. He doesn't want people noticing those colorful scales, after all. ] What do you mean weeks? I just arrived and you were- [ back at the train station, waving goodbye at him as the train moved away from Portorosso.

But that line of thought is forgotten because Alberto is speaking fast and Luca is trying to catch up ] I know!! Are we really?! I didn't know planets could just do that!! Maybe this is Saturno, have you see any rings around?!

[silenziobruno]

[ He leans into the touch to his face and gives Luca a small, self-conscious giggle. It's a bit too late to try to hide the fact he's crying, but he knows his friend won't make fun of him. It doesn't escape him how Luca brushes them off to make the scales vanish, looking after him even in these small ways. The rest is confusing, to say the least. ]

Uh? But... It's been more than two weeks. I've counted. [ Because yes, he's started with the tally marks again. They covert the wall of one of the many caves along the beach, but one that is not that easy to reach. He wanted to keep track of time, yet he didn't want to be reminded constantly of how long he had been separated from everything he knew. That's why he didn't make the marks inside his new hideout. ]

Yes! The floating pearl thing in the middle of the city told me that, and then I talked to people from others planets who confirmed it. I think they're called aliens? One is a really amazing robot person and can jump really high. His name is Cayde, he's nice. But I haven't seen any rings, not even at night. There are a lot of weird animals and plants, you need to be careful.

[ Alberto has seen mosquitoes the size of a person's head, which was gross and terrifying. A new thought occurs to him, and Alberto is both hopefully and a little scared to ask. ]

Is Giulia here too? I haven't seen her and I've been looking for you two.

[miouniverso]

[ Two weeks? No, no, Luca is sure he saw Alberto like... 1 minute before he arrived in this place. His worried frown is pretty obvious now, and Luca opens his mouth to argue that Alberto is wrong and that's not how time works, but he mentions the floating ball and the argument turns into a gaps instead ]

I met the shiny ball too! [ met? Although it was a very one-sided meeting without a lot of talk, and a lot more showing. He has no idea what a robot is, though, and that detail is archived for later when Luca isn't having an overload of information.

Giulia's name stops his half-excitement, half-confusion, and everything is replaced with worry ] She was with me on the train but she wasn't with me when I got here... s-she isn't with you? [ where could she be?! ] My parents- they were with you at the train station, are they here as well? And Massimo...!

[silenziobruno]

[ Alberto has said that with his usual conviction, but this time he really wasn't making things up on the spot, it's really been that long for him. Time works weirdly in Temba, not like any of them realize that. But eh, it's not all that important now that they're back together. ]

There are other floating pearls around the city, they teach you things when you touch them. '[ Teaching' being a broad term here. It's more like the orbs info dumb information directly into their brains at an alarming rate. Alberto frowns at the news and shakes his head. ]

No, I haven't seen any of them, but it's a big place. There are two of cities, connected with a train, maybe they are in the other one. [ He puts a hand on Luca's shoulder and gives it a squeeze, attempting to stop him from worrying too much. He smiles because Alberto has turned 'fake it until you make it's into an art at this point. Besides, he is honestly happy to see Luca again. ]

Ey, we're together...We can go looking for them. It's going to be all right.

[miouniverso]

[ Luca stops when he hears Alberto, blinking for a bit before he smiles. That's right - Alberto is here. They were runaways (for a little while), set on getting a vespa and exploring the world all on their own. Sure this is a whole lot different from what Luca ever pictured - a while new world, aliens, teaching pearls, whatever a robot is - but they are together and that's what matters.

And they can explore this place, try to find everyone and just... be okay.

yeah.

They are okay.

Luca's smile turns into a grin ] Like before, right? We just need a vespa and we can go around and explore this whole place, this whole world!! [ Luca's hands rise, excited ] And we also have the pearls to teach us, so it's like I'll be going to school, too!

[silenziobruno]

[ It's a world new world, but then again so was Portorosso. It's just a different kind of 'new'. If they're together, they can do anything. He waits until Luca processes everything, then stands up from the sand and offers him a hand to help him up. He feels more confident with his friend by his side, and he will take care of Luca to make sure nothing happens to him. ]

Yes, like before. Maybe we will need to buy our Vespa from scratch again, I haven't seen any new yet. Oh! But they have ships! Not like the fishing boat Massimo has, this one can travel to other planets, I've heard. I thought of you when I first learned about them.

[ Because Luca loves space and as much as Alberto tried to ignore that when they were back home, worried that his friend was going to get bored with him and leave him, he is well aware of his friend's interests. Looking around, Alberto remembers that he left the wood and the sponge lying in the sand. ]

Oh, are you hungry? There's a sponge in the ocean that tastes almost as good as gelato, I just grabbed some.

[Well, you woke Alex up. Have a glare.]

It has a frickin' microphone. You don't have to shout. [A huff of a sigh, and then, less annoyed,]
Never had one of these before?

What is a frickin microphone? [ he has no idea what that is, neither why this person is annoyed, but he assumes that's how people here are. Maybe he should frown too? Though Luca is no good at that.]

Just microphone. I was being emphatic. It's what picks up your voice and transmits it. And it's pretty sensitive, so you can talk at a normal level.

Isn't that a telephone? [ it sounds like a telephone. Maybe it just has a different name in this place, Luca can accept that ]

[Oh hey, the kid knows telephones. That makes this easier.]

Well, a telephone has a microphone in it. That's what picks up your voice and sends it to the person on the other end. This thing just does that without wires. And can send pictures and text too.

Honestly it's kinda neat. And no stupid contracts or fees.

[In the end, Alex actually doesn't mind educating people, especially young people, if they're open to it.]

[ ohhhhh

well that actually doesn't make a lot of sense because what is human technology to a sea monster BUT. Luca wants to mingle and pretend he is totally not a sea monster, so he just nods as if all of that makes absolute sense.

Contracts or fees. Right, right, nod, nod.

but a longer pause follows. ]

Pictures? What kind?

[Network]

-ow! Hello?

[The image of the short-haired girl on the screen winces.]

You don't need to yell, I can hear you perfectly fine!

[ this box is so weird! he can see her - and she can... see him? And they can hear each other?

Luca reaches for the communicator and shakes it a bit ] How did you get inside this? [ gasp ] Are you trapped? [ maybe he should try to break it and she will go free, yeah that sounds like a good plan.

In fact, luca looks around, trying to find a rock ]

[Oh no, that's not any better.]

Ah, you don't have to-

Wait, what?

[The shaking's stopped but what the boy says next baffles her. Her mind is jumping hoops as she tried to work out what he means.]

Oh-! No, I'm not trapped, really! [ She gives a light laugh.] This is a communication device. It lets me speak to you from a distance.

[miouniverso]

Like a telephone? [ but he can see her... like in the television. So it's a television-phone?! ]

This is amazing!!! [ Luca lifts up his communicator, moving it around to poke and prod and see more of it ] How far away are you? Can it communicate even in space? [ he heard they can go to other planets and there are ships that allow them to travel through space - so these communication devices would be great for that, much better than a phone ]

Can it teach you things too ? Like the pearls of light? [ oh yeah, he is super excited. Good luck with that! ]

[Not something she's ever heard of, it seems. But seeing Luca so enthusiastic gets a smile from her.]

The ones I know of back home can. I'm not sure what the range is on these. They don't seem to reach outside the city yet. Since we can talk to each other, I'm guessing you're in Temba somewhere like I am.

Pearls of light..? Do you mean the data points? I guess you can learn some things on these devices. There should be buttons. There's one that brings up the map to the city, and one that has names of the local plants and animals...

I'm near the beach, yes! [ Luca looks around, while still holding the communicator, as if wanting to find her and have some idea of how far away she truly is.

But after he turns to the small screen once again ]

That's amazing, i can learn so much!

How is this place like? Do you like it? [ the animals and plants, sure, but Luca is very curious about the city and the other people living here too ]

I see! I am a bit far from there. I'm in the city itself, by the main square. See?

[She turns her own communicator about to show him the area around her, the hotel front, the fountain...]

There's a lot to learn even without these too. Just looking around... There's so many new things to see.

It's...quiet. And I guess it's all right. Most of the people I've met have been nice. It's very different from what I'm used to, but I guess it's not that bad. I just miss my brothers a lot.

I'm so sorry, DW never sent me the notif for this!

[ Luca immediately goes "ohhhh" as he sees the city, absolutely amazed at this sort of technology.

Once the video returns back to the girl, Luca quickly nods to let her know he is listening to her words. But then she mentions missing people and...

well.

His smile falters a little ]

Oh... have you been here long? And- can't you call your family with these things? [ the communicators ]

*fistshakes at DW* It's okay!

Not too long. There are are people who've been here much longer.

[She's hesitant there, shaking her head as she tries not to look too sad about it.]

No. I don't think these have the range. It won't even work outside of this city to the next, and that's on the same planet.
