TEST DRIVE
Application FAQ | Taken Characters | Reserves | Application

Welcome to the first Test Drive for The Revival Project!

For those who do not know, this game is a spin-off from The Drift Fleet game, which is shortly closing. For more information about what this game is about, please check out the FAQ here or the premise here.

The TDM for the first round of applications is NOT required but is highly recommended. Really this is to see the interest level in the game as well as to have everyone interact on the new planet and with the new experiences offered here. There will be a post in the TDM where questions can be asked regarding the prompts/settings. We're keeping this loose though so go ahead and have fun with it. Any questions about the game please direct to the comment section of the FAQ.

If you are a Drift Fleet alumni, please label your character as 'DFAU' on your top level so we know. Also, keep in mind you have complete flexibility on how your character comes here. They could be taken before endgame, after endgame, two years after, one year before, etc. It's up to you! The only option not allowed is to completely restart your character (because then it's not DFAU, is it?)

So go! Explore Agra 10! And, as always, HAVE FUN!

*ATTENTION! RESERVES ARE NOW OPEN!*
*ATTENTION! APPLICATIONS ARE NOW OPEN!*
*GAME OPENS AUGUST 19th!*

WHALE COMB PARTY

In the square near your arrival point, one building seems to be in fairly good repair. It’s large and stark white on every wall. Unlike the other buildings, all the lights are on and the windows looking out are intact. That alone would make it remarkable but it’s hardly the most noticeable thing once you step inside the open doorway.

Hanging against one wall is a piece of fabric that has ‘WHALE COMB!’ painted on it in drippy, fluorescent pink letters. A smiley is painted underneath it right on the wall with three eyes and long fangs. The fangs drip down all the way to the floor and the eyes are just a blob of paint, but whoever left it seems to have been trying, here. ‘US THANK THEY!’ is written beside it, barely legible. On every other wall is ‘EAT’ in various sizes and colors. They thankfully don’t drip as much as the smiley since, beneath them, are tables upon tables of food.

There are meats, fruits, root vegetables, and even what might be a sweet dessert of some sort as well. Bowls are full of them, apparently a welcome dinner for the Agrii’s new heroes. At the very least it will give everyone a quick crash course on what is edible around here. But some of it might have … adverse effects:

- People chomping down on the striped meat all seem to get very drowsy a few minutes later.
- The red fruit that looks like a giant cherry is the equivalent of a few shots - the more consumed, the more drunken this party is getting.
- There is a bowl of weeds that have small, daisy-like flowers all along the stalks. This tastes like chicken and gives the eater a sudden burst of energy that will have them running around the room like they’re being chased.
-There are a collection of drinks, some made from the red fruit, some that are clearly water, some that taste like a less-sweet lemonade with no effects, and then there's a blue one that tastes like an especially dark beer. People drinking this will find themselves incapable of lying for a half hour.

Of course, no way to know any of this before you chow down. So dig in and enjoy the show!

LOST AND ALONE

They said don’t go into the forest. If the noises there weren’t deterrent enough then the thick trees and lack of paths should have been. Yes, you’ll need food. Yes, both meat and many fruits are in the forest. But maybe you should have gotten some more information before heading in.

Congratulations: you went into the forest and are now lost. You can’t hear the murmurings from town, nor can you see any of the lights that might be flickering on and off in the city. How are you going to get back into town? How do you make sure that the creatures here don’t attack you? You probably don’t have any weapons, so you’d better figure something out quick.

Or, maybe you’ll get lucky and run into another foolish person wandering around out here. Try not to attack them - unless they attack first.

MILES TO GO

The first thing every survivor needs to find is shelter. Not long after your arrival at the fountain, it’s getting darker now and, even if the night is short (you’re about to find out it’s not!), you don’t want to spend your first one out on an unfamiliar street. Distantly you can hear a sound like a wolf howling through an elephant’s trunk. It’s loud and alien. Maybe you want to find somewhere to sleep a little more quickly.

Right away there are two pretty solid options that will do nicely for the night: an abandoned hotel-like structure and some empty stores.

The hotel structure seems to be the most popular option for others. Its large, overgrown lobby leads you to the staircase and over a dozen floors of rooms in varying conditions. Despite it looking as though no one has set foot in here for decades, the stairs and floors all are secure. The rooms that have doors on them open up to dusty rooms that all have a bathroom (of sorts) attached and long, narrow bed frames. Figuring out a mattress will be a challenge but at least this is a safe place to sleep. As long as no animals laid claim to this room before you got in...

But let’s say the room in the hotel doesn’t work for you. Maybe the room is too small for you. Maybe you don’t like the stairs. Maybe you want someplace private to separate yourself from the rest of these strangers and to think quietly about what to do next. Either way, the other option is any number of abandoned stores lining the block where you arrived. The glass doors and windows of many are broken but there are just as many intact as well. The rooms are all large and empty, as whatever wares inside were either taken or dissolved over the years. There may be a counter or two that will get you off the ground, though. With all this space, you’re bound to find something to sleep on.

Unless someone else got there, first...

Whale Comb;
Parties aren't his favored activity — an understatement if ever there was one. He still prefers to avoid social engagements and this one is no exception. However, this one does have one important factor that others in recent months have not: the reality of his appearance in this place. The landscape seems neither dream nor nightmare, which only means that the encounter with that glowing orb had been all too real.

Great.

After the first quick self-check — weapons had been taken away, of course; he's annoyed but not at all surprised about that fact — he'd moved cautiously toward the tacky banner and somewhat intact building. Calling the spread of tables a feast is generous, but it does seem to match the run-down appearance of what he'd seen of the place thus far. He's wary of the food but with his metabolism being what it is he's also no fool; he eats sparingly until he knows it's not poisoned, and even then sticks to water and what appears to be the simplest proteins and vegetables.

The entire time he's keeping an eye on the crowd; old habits die hard. So too does his distrust of the Atroma; though he may have been free of their influence, his own life is more than an adequate example of how a vanquished entity might not have truly died. As nothing else he's encountered has the power to pull him suddenly from one place to another, he's more than a little suspicious.

Lost and Alone;
It may or may not have been one of his smarter ideas, exploring the forest, but the reality of the matter is that the so-called feast set out at the arrival of this strange group of people won't last forever. And since there doesn't really seem to be much source of food in the city, the forest it is. He doesn't like the idea of exploring something so unknown while being so poorly armed but it'll have to suffice.

An hour into said exploration he's less than pleased with his decision to come out here.

He has an excellent sense of direction, he knows he does, but even so he can't figure out how he got so turned around. He'd kept himself moving in a straight line, he'd marked landmarks on a mental map, and he still finds himself deeper into the undergrowth than he'd landed. Briefly he considers the idea that while he might not have planned to stray, something else might have planned it for him; he dismisses it a moment later, tucking it into the back of his mind for future consideration. He can't focus on that right now; he needs to focus on navigating back toward the city.

The sound of someone — or something — has him easing into the shadow of a tree, wary. Perhaps it's simply someone else who wandered too far afield. But perhaps it's something else entirely; he has a feeling that he's about to find out either way.

Miles to Go;
It’s no surprise that the planet has a somewhat unique solar cycle; he's been to enough places by now to know that Earth's twenty-four hour day isn't a universal constant. He's never much minded longer days either; with the apparent lack of electricity he prioritizes exploration while the light allows. It means that when dusk starts to fall he's more than ready to find a secure place to rest.

The large building near the fountain (a hotel? dormitory? something else?) seems a popular place to settle but he's not quite ready to claim a space amid so many others, at least not without exploring other options. Unfortunately the spaces in the town haven't proven to be quite adequate either. Creature comforts are a small concern — he's done without before — but security and defensibility are his main focus. Thus far, he's less than impressed with what he's found. Even so he's not quite ready to give up and default back to what he's calling the main building, not yet. He'll do one more round, up this street and down the next, before admitting defeat.

Everything appears pretty picked over but that doesn't stop him from stepping through a large window whose glass is long since gone. The shelves inside the space appear empty but there's always the chance that something useful might have been overlooked.

Wildcard;
Got another idea? Hit me with it or hit me up at [plurk.com profile] sometimesamuse if you want to hash out a few details first. Though I start in prose I'm more than happy to switch to brackets if you prefer. Bucky is post-Captain America: The Winter Soldier and pre-Captain America: Civil War so he's got the fun of missing memories; he's also a Drift Fleet alumnus who is no longer going by Bucky or Barnes (or any name at all, actually). Feel free to ask if you need more information!

It probably won't help that seeing double/triple problem if Steve runs into Tommy before this is out of his system. But for now Billy flushes a little. It's not his first interaction with a version of the Captain, but it's definitely the first time he's ever seen him in such a vulnerable state. Hell, he didn't even know Cap could get drunk. Which means this stuff has to be pretty strong.

He flashes a reassuring smile, giving a small laugh at the offered hand and taking a half step back so he can take it and give a small shake.

"S'all right, don't worry about it. I don't think I'm from your reality. I'm uh... Billy. Can I- get you some water or something?"

Wanda's picking at her food, but someone should probably save her from eating any more of the red fruit. As it is she's already feeling a little off balance, and usually only the little dragonling on her shoulder (or Vision in rare circumstances) can make her giggle. But what other response is there to 'whale comb,' other than crying at her own bad luck at being kidnapped again?

"Can you imagine a whale with hair?" This Wanda still has her Sokovian accent...and a tiny fairy dragon on her shoulder. Look, okay, she just couldn't say no to those eyes.

[It wasn't the smartest move for the team members with secret identities to connect Viv's Wifi. Kamala appreciates they don't have to waste time going over that. She just wants her friend. She's in a new place. It's scary! It feels conquerable if Viv is around. The Champions always have each other's backs. This is no exception.

Kamala draws away reluctantly and shrugs.]

And Kamala thought she had problems. She rushes over to talk to the girl. While the teenager may be scared, she's still a hero. She can't ignore the suffering of others. Besides, her voice is going to go out or something.

Chika's hand is on her chest, over her thudding heart, shoulders hunched over. What the heck? This isn't fair! She's just cute and useless! Why would anyone recruit her to fix their mess?

At least there are all these nice cool people helping her. "I'm talking to you but I'm not okay at all..."

Steve is already hungry again. It's not fair to eat half the 'feast' in order to fuel his metabolism so alternatives need to be found. He's tried enough to know what is good and what food has ill effects, even for him. Out in the forest he's started digging up roots that seemed filling enough to probably be a source of protein. Already he has a collection of about twenty. Well, nineteen since he's eating one. Steve fashioned Bucky's old, blue coat into a bag to hold them and is just about to cross over to some bushes when he hears something.

Time with Nat has left him cautious of how slightly different, small noises can often be attached to deadly things. He doesn't make an obvious indication that he's heard it. Steve just sets the jacket-bag onto the floor and turns his head to hear better. It's a person, he thinks. Or something about that size. Maybe another captive? Maybe...an Agrii?

Steve makes a gamble and turns to face it, body tensed for a potential attack. When he sees who it is, though, all the tension leaves his body in a rush of shock.

"Buc-" No. No, not that.

"Um..." He glaces around them to see if anyone else is around. No. Just them. And really, who knew what universe this Winter Soldier was from? Or when?

"Do you know me?"

[Steve feels like the welcome party to the hotel, dorm, whatever this was. Whenever someone comes in he makes a point to track them as they claim a room. It's not just to keep an eye on who is here but also to figure out if people needed help clearing their rooms. As it is, it seems like everyone is managing.

And then he sees a familiar face.

It takes him awhile to walk down and even then he pauses at the door. At the last second he squirrels up his courage and opens up to be greeted by. Well. That.

Steve can't help but laugh.]

I'm just ...checking in. Seeing who's here.

[He doesn't know if this Steve is the same from Drift Fleet even if they do look the same. He holds his hands up in a gesture of peace.]

I dunno where you found those blankets and pillows but you can make a killing selling 'em. No one here even has mattresses.

[Small talk.]

[Steve hears the voice and feels his head snap around without even knowing it had moved. It couldn't be. It couldn't be the same person. He's been here long enough to know better.

But no. God, no. It is.

Steve almost bowls down two people as he rushes over, stunned.]

Really, he should be more perturbed at waking up in weird places, but after the Fleet, he’s definitely unsensitized. There are far worse places to be. Siberia, for one. Things being this desolate is certainly uncommon, but he wastes little time in trying to find fortifications for the night. Something with a decent contingency plan if he needs to make an escape, but that also has a working door and isn’t easy to breach.

He meanders through the halls, focused on his current mission, making note of things like holes in the floor or a ceiling looking to be in danger of caving. On the fourth floor, he starts investigating the rooms closer to the stairwell. As he’s looking through one that seems decently intact, a voice makes his guard slam up. Metal fist raised, he slinks around the corner and blinks in surprise.

“Steve?”

[ He makes it a point to eye the food with suspicion. It would hardly kill him, but he really doesn’t want to press his luck in a new and unfamiliar place. Instead of partaking, he edges to the wall of the room, simply watching. Better someone else keel over first. It’s when he’s scanning the room that he spots Vision, which gives him pause.

Is this the same Vision he’s become friends with, or merely someone he shares a universe with? Perhaps he’s unlucky enough that it’s someone who is still caught in the mess of the Accords. Still, he keeps his expression neutral and offers Vision a curt nod when they make eye contact. ]

It’s not that he sees Tommy, but it’s hard not to feel the displaced air centered around the edges of the room. The noise that accompanies it isn’t one he can really place or even make out, but it’s one of those moments that has the hair on the back of his neck raising. On edge and ready, but not ready to fight- anticipation, mostly.

Turning so that his left is to the wall, Bucky reaches out his vibranium arm with the intention of stopping whatever, or whoever, it was circling the room. Sure, he may be built like a brick shithouse, but he’s not impervious to things that are moving so fast he can’t see them. The vibranium will help, at least????

He hopes.

Re: whale comb

[personal profile] doubled_speed 2019-07-24 07:14 pm (UTC)(link)
There are probably people in the world, maybe even at this stupid party, who could do the math of exactly why this is a bad idea. The physics of a young man of Tommy's mass not to mention abnormal muscle and bone density moving at only Mach 4. How much force would that generate? What about the sudden stopping as he slammed into a Vibranium arm? How much force could a vibranium arm take? What was the sheer stress point on it? When would the damn thing just tear off of Bucky's arm because there is too much energy behind Tommy?

Who even knows.

What matters is that it hurts when Tommy hits the thing. Makes his whole body ache as he almost doubles over the thing. And yes, he has a moan of pain at it too as he falls back to the floor. And Tommy just lies where he fell, a groan of pain issuing from his lips.

Oh, and one other thing.

"Fuck you and bad planning, Barnes."

Because who else could be that Aragorn-esque grizzled and have a metal arm capable of fucking Tommy over? Only one option.

Still, he keeps heading toward the voice, and soon the grinning young man comes out from behind a few bushes and a tree, his arms full.]

Maybe Kree potatoes are purple. Whatever, these have to be tasty, right?

A party is indeed a party, and Carol has the same idea as he does- hang back and watch the ensuing chaos that may or may not happen. He got himself a cup of that weird blue drink that’s at least palatable.

Yeah, definitely palatable. It’s not vodka, but hey. Kidnapped people couldn’t be choosers.

It’s really a stupid idea to go out into the darkness without knowing what’s out there, but when has that ever stopped him doing literally anything? Never. The forest is a lot darker than he was really anticipating, and seeing as how he doesn’t have anything special like night vision, he’s kind of moving in the near- darkness outside of his lighter.

He catches a glimpse of some form of light-at least that’s what he thinks it is- and he noises of someone crunching through the underbrush. Deeming whoever it is to not be a threat, he steps forward a bit more so that he can benefit from the strange glow. Bucky raises an eyebrow.
