TEST DRIVE
Application FAQ | Taken Characters | Reserves | Application

Welcome to the first Test Drive for The Revival Project!

For those who do not know, this game is a spin-off from The Drift Fleet game, which is shortly closing. For more information about what this game is about, please check out the FAQ here or the premise here.

The TDM for the first round of applications is NOT required but is highly recommended. Really this is to see the interest level in the game as well as to have everyone interact on the new planet and with the new experiences offered here. There will be a post in the TDM where questions can be asked regarding the prompts/settings. We're keeping this loose though so go ahead and have fun with it. Any questions about the game please direct to the comment section of the FAQ.

If you are a Drift Fleet alumni, please label your character as 'DFAU' on your top level so we know. Also, keep in mind you have complete flexibility on how your character comes here. They could be taken before endgame, after endgame, two years after, one year before, etc. It's up to you! The only option not allowed is to completely restart your character (because then it's not DFAU, is it?)

So go! Explore Agra 10! And, as always, HAVE FUN!

*ATTENTION! RESERVES ARE NOW OPEN!*
*ATTENTION! APPLICATIONS ARE NOW OPEN!*
*GAME OPENS AUGUST 19th!*

WHALE COMB PARTY

In the square near your arrival point, one building seems to be in fairly good repair. It’s large and stark white on every wall. Unlike the other buildings, all the lights are on and the windows looking out are intact. That alone would make it remarkable but it’s hardly the most noticeable thing once you step inside the open doorway.

Hanging against one wall is a piece of fabric that has ‘WHALE COMB!’ painted on it in drippy, fluorescent pink letters. A smiley is painted underneath it right on the wall with three eyes and long fangs. The fangs drip down all the way to the floor and the eyes are just a blob of paint, but whoever left it seems to have been trying, here. ‘US THANK THEY!’ is written beside it, barely legible. On every other wall is ‘EAT’ in various sizes and colors. They thankfully don’t drip as much as the smiley since, beneath them, are tables upon tables of food.

There are meats, fruits, root vegetables, and even what might be a sweet dessert of some sort as well. Bowls are full of them, apparently a welcome dinner for the Agrii’s new heroes. At the very least it will give everyone a quick crash course on what is edible around here. But some of it might have … adverse effects:

- People chomping down on the striped meat all seem to get very drowsy a few minutes later.
- The red fruit that looks like a giant cherry is the equivalent of a few shots - the more consumed, the more drunken this party is getting.
- There is a bowl of weeds that have small, daisy-like flowers all along the stalks. This tastes like chicken and gives the eater a sudden burst of energy that will have them running around the room like they’re being chased.
-There are a collection of drinks, some made from the red fruit, some that are clearly water, some that taste like a less-sweet lemonade with no effects, and then there's a blue one that tastes like an especially dark beer. People drinking this will find themselves incapable of lying for a half hour.

Of course, no way to know any of this before you chow down. So dig in and enjoy the show!

LOST AND ALONE

They said don’t go into the forest. If the noises there weren’t deterrent enough then the thick trees and lack of paths should have been. Yes, you’ll need food. Yes, both meat and many fruits are in the forest. But maybe you should have gotten some more information before heading in.

Congratulations: you went into the forest and are now lost. You can’t hear the murmurings from town, nor can you see any of the lights that might be flickering on and off in the city. How are you going to get back into town? How do you make sure that the creatures here don’t attack you? You probably don’t have any weapons, so you’d better figure something out quick.

Or, maybe you’ll get lucky and run into another foolish person wandering around out here. Try not to attack them - unless they attack first.

MILES TO GO

The first thing every survivor needs to find is shelter. Not long after your arrival at the fountain, it’s getting darker now and, even if the night is short (you’re about to find out it’s not!), you don’t want to spend your first one out on an unfamiliar street. Distantly you can hear a sound like a wolf howling through an elephant’s trunk. It’s loud and alien. Maybe you want to find somewhere to sleep a little more quickly.

Right away there are two pretty solid options that will do nicely for the night: an abandoned hotel-like structure and some empty stores.

The hotel structure seems to be the most popular option for others. Its large, overgrown lobby leads you to the staircase and over a dozen floors of rooms in varying conditions. Despite it looking as though no one has set foot in here for decades, the stairs and floors all are secure. The rooms that have doors on them open up to dusty rooms that all have a bathroom (of sorts) attached and long, narrow bed frames. Figuring out a mattress will be a challenge but at least this is a safe place to sleep. As long as no animals laid claim to this room before you got in...

But let’s say the room in the hotel doesn’t work for you. Maybe the room is too small for you. Maybe you don’t like the stairs. Maybe you want someplace private to separate yourself from the rest of these strangers and to think quietly about what to do next. Either way, the other option is any number of abandoned stores lining the block where you arrived. The glass doors and windows of many are broken but there are just as many intact as well. The rooms are all large and empty, as whatever wares inside were either taken or dissolved over the years. There may be a counter or two that will get you off the ground, though. With all this space, you’re bound to find something to sleep on.

Unless someone else got there, first...

[Not without great difficulty, he's sure, which is why he's smiling down at her.]

Hmm. Perhaps we should view as suspect anything you consumed, then.

[He tugs at his finger, but it's caught.]

I never thought I'd hear you nostalgic for protein gel, Wanda.
doubled_speed: (Gotta Take This Call)

[personal profile] doubled_speed 2019-07-12 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
[What, does Wanda not have a sister in Vision's world? No matter, Tommy hasn't even noticed that he called Pietro that. It's just a knee jerk thing, because Pietro doesn't like it. Says it makes him sound 'old'. Which is hilarious, because he's got a daughter.]

How old was he, when he passed? Was he doing something good, or something bad? I mean, you said fighting Ultron, but I've known villains to do that.

Ah.

[Right. The whole "open sky" thing. He pats Jack on the back.]

I am afraid you are going to have to face the sky again, though if you would prefer to stay here until it is dark I would be happy to accompany you. There are several varieties of edible fruits and vegetables we have identified that grow plentifully nearby.

[He reaches into his bag and pulls out some raw tubers and hands them to Jack - they crunch like carrots but taste like tomato, and are the most easily portable of the options so far.]

There is meat available, but I have so far avoided it.

[He blinks and shakes his head to clear it; the twins sure don't have any other siblings in his timeline. But he's going to do what Tommy just accused him of, and just. Avoid that subject for now.

It's already been kind of a Day.]

Twenty-two, and though he and Wanda had previously helped Ultron, they had just changed sides when I awakened. Pietro died defending Hawkeye, and is remembered as a hero. Clint named his youngest son after him in his honor.

[Well, Nathaniel Pietro, so only partly. But still.]

[Defending Hawkass? Tommy almost can't believe it. He sighs and shakes his head.]

Helped Ultron? Damn, I mean, that's worse than the Brotherhood. Still, good thing he got to do something right. He really is a hero, he always tries. Even when he fucks it up. And...

Wait, Clint has a kid?

[It's unsettling that he doesn't know for sure, but it also didn't sound like it was his doing. If he was guilty of something he could have just not brought it up. It's not like you expect people to be in a different body. Even if it does look like your ex.

She nods to his answer.]

You don't sound like him. Your voice is different. [In case you were wondering if she thought it was his body. She was.]

[ Viv had not expected to be kidnapped to a strange planet, although with recent events she, perhaps, should not be entirely surprised. Actually, with the way being a Champion has been in general, she should not be surprised in the least.

The data she downloaded from the orb gave her enough information to work with, but there was one thing she had yet to learn - whether her teammates had also been brought along. That was what prompted Viv to explore, and to zero in on this building - the most intact, and powered, building she had come across.

To anybody inside, a reddish-skinned, green-haired teenage girl with what appears to be robotic seams or something similar, simply phases in through the wall from the outside, floating a foot or so off the ground.

She immediately catches sight of the man of similar make, one she recognizes. Not one of her teammates, not a Champion, but an Avenger. And her father. ]

Father! You are here as well? [ She floats on over, unaware of the, uh, everything she is now dropping on her not-quite-father. ]

Quicksilver.

Steve's first thought is that this is Quicksilver. But when the guy stops running and looks nothing like Wanda's brother, he reevaluates his assumption.

Okay. Same power, different person. Steve drops the branch and holds his hands up in the universal gesture of peace.

"Woah! Woah, sorry!" He smiles and doesn't move closer. "I thought you might be an animal, here. I'm not going to hurt you.

"I'm Steve. Steve Rogers from Earth..."

Steve smiles. He makes the appropriate faces at all the names but who knows what they are? Nothing is canon yet.

"I'm sorry you got taken from that. You and Wanda deserved a future of comfort and peace."

Everyone did, honestly. It just seemed like that wasn't in the cards for anyone. Just when they thought it was all over, something kidnapped them all over and started the cycle anew. But Vision doesn't seem overly concerned with that.

"You don't mind that you were taken from it, now?"

Maybe he doesn’t look like his Uncle Pietro fully, but maybe, just maybe, there is a hint of Wanda in his face, or Pietro in his expression of offense. But there is something entirely Tommy in the amusement to see Steve Rogers introducing himself. Not his Captain, but close enough.

“Yo, Cap. I don’t know if I’d call Brooklyn ‘Earth’. Now Manhattan, that’s more cultured. And produces more heroes too. Course my Jersey self just judges you city folk.”

Chattering much? Yes. Which is okay because literally he almost got whacked upside the head by Captain fucking America. Hard pass on really experiencing what this guy’s refined super-soldier serum feels like as a headache. Bad enough training with the super strong people he already knew back home.

Whale Comb Indeed

[personal profile] doubled_speed 2019-07-13 09:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Conversations with Captain Marvel’s fist, literally any person who carried that name in his world with any drop of Kree blood, is definitely not something Tommy wants to be on the receiving end of. Ever. So good thing he isn’t poisoning them. But when he catches sight of the woman drinking the blue liquid he has to wince. Yeah, already been on the receiving end of that one.

“May be smarter to stick to the water,” he warns as he approaches. Better to save people from his own. “That stuff could probably turn your tongue blue. Like a slushee. But less awesome. And the side-effects may include saying stupid things. Know I put my foot in my mouth a lot more when I was drinking it.”

Whale Comb

[All right, this isn't quite what Natasha hoped for today, but she's here and she doesn't have much to go on so first thing first. Find out who else is here. Find out if they have any information aside from what's available via the data point. Find out if they're safe here, and make sure they can stay that way. For all of those goals, investigating the Whale Comb seems like her best move. It'll attract anyone else in the area and it's the only spot in sight that might offer supplies.

She starts with the meat. It's a calculated risk. On an alien planet, there's not really any way to be sure what will be toxic or not, but the berries are more suspicious in their way.

It's... fine. It's food. She's had worse. Compared to the protein solids provided by the Atroma, it's actually identifiable as a food source.

She's set it aside and moved onto looking at the others with her when she suddenly finds herself swaying on her feet, hit with a wave of drowsiness.]

That's not good... [Through a yawn.]

Miles to Go

[After her experience at the Whale Comb, it became obvious to Natasha that she was going to need somewhere secure to rest if and when things went wrong. With that in mind, she can be found in the hotel. She picked a room with enough room for a few people to sleep comfortably and she's working determinedly to clear it out. Clean it up. Make it suitable for herself and... whoever else might need to stay here, really.

There are still a few people she's hoping to find...]

[Steve hears movement close by and can't help but get up and investigate. He's seeing people showing up here that he knows and those who he doesn't so any new face is interesting. He carefully sets Mille into his arms (his room is not pest-free enough for his liking) and walks over to where Nat is working.

Seeing her almost makes him drop the cat.]

Nat?

[He's not sure if this is the one he knew from Drift Fleet or not. There's nothing obvious right off the bat but Steve could still hope. And, even if she's not the same, Steve can't help but be happy to see a friend.

He sets Millie down and walks forward to hug her.]

It's so good to see you. Wish it were different situations but...I'm glad to see a friendly face.
brooklyn_boy: (smile)

[personal profile] brooklyn_boy 2019-07-14 04:48 am (UTC)(link)
It's clear this guy knows him. Steve is at a loss since that clearly means he's from another universe or a future point in his timeline. One that he gave up on once he'd decided to not go home. But maybe this was proof that, either way, life moved on. Steve would need to worry about that later. For now he's just interested in figuring out who this is.

"Those are fighting words," Steve teases gently. He steps forward and extends a hand toward the other man. Closer now, Steve can almost see a passing resemblance to Wanda. It makes him wonder if this is another sibling. Or, perhaps, a child? That would definitely lead to some questions from Steve to Vision...

"But I'll let it slide, this time. Seems you know me. You are?"
doubled_speed: (Default)

[personal profile] doubled_speed 2019-07-14 03:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Well of course he knows Captain Rogers. Who doesn't? But yeah, definitely a bit more personal than just being aware of an Avenger. Still, the question is fair. He's got Steve at a real disadvantage. Which means he'll give Cap benefit of the doubt. Any Captain America that doesn't recognize the most troublesome by deliberate choice because his twin's powers are more problematic of the Young Avengers is a Captain America that hasn't wronged said troublesome almost-adult super-hero.

"Tommy Shepherd. Speed. Which is also what I do. Trying to find sufficient food for a frustratingly speedster metabolism. You're Captain America, leader of the Avengers. You know, when Stark isn't. Or when you two aren't fighting. Again."

[The dragonling makes a sleepy attempt at a chirp but doesn't open its eyes or release his finger. They both feel safer with Vision, so hopefully he didn't have any plans to go anywhere.]

It was terrible but it was just food. I don't like feeling like this.

[It's an excuse to stay close to Vision, because walking for any significant distance is...questionable.]

I hope it wasn't the fruit. [There's more than just the red fruit that's actually the culprit, and Wanda had tried a little of all of them. But the red fruit was good, even if she didn't have much stomach for anything.]

Lost and Alone, post-reunion

[personal profile] stillgotmyleftarm 2019-07-14 08:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Bucky likes to think that he's decent at navigating the woods. Sure, he's not great - but he survived a couple years of largely rough living on the front during the war, so how hard can just going out into the forest at the outskirts of the city be? Especially with Steve.

Yeah, hindsight is definitely 20/20. He doesn't know how the fuck he and Steve got separated, but they did. God, he'd just found the guy again. And for Steve, it's been a whole year.

Now Bucky's making his way warily through the brush, shield on his arm and trying to look for Steve without alerting anyone (or anything) else that he's here. This is a mess. Once he finds Steve, he's, like, tying them together at the wrist or something, he swears.

stillgotmyleftarm: (unsure)

Lost and Alone

[personal profile] stillgotmyleftarm 2019-07-14 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Bucky is way too much of a city boy to actually like poking around in the woods. But he's also experienced enough with living off the land to know that their best bet for something to eat - and definitely the best way to get firewood - is the forest. So, whatever - they're not supposed to be in here? Sometimes you've just gotta take risks, and this seems like a reasonable one.

Besides. If he runs into anything nasty, he's got the shield. And he's fast. Also, great at climbing trees. He'll figure it out.

He does not expect to run into a woman trying to smack her fists together for light... and failing?

When he steps out of the brush, intentionally making noise on the way, the shield is visible, mostly covering his left side like he's not sure she isn't going to startle or attack. "Was that supposed to do something? 'Cause it looks like you might be outta juice, if it was."

Steve has a passing understanding that 'speed' is a type of drug. However, after watching this boy run backwards like a blur he has no misconception about what Tommy meant. He's also not surprised to find out that he knows him as Captain America. At least that means their universes are the same or similar enough.

He nods at the comment about metabolism.

"I understand the need to eat. I'm looking for some protein myself. Maybe together we can get some food and also find our way back to town?"

Re: Lost and Alone

[personal profile] bossofspace 2019-07-14 09:05 pm (UTC)(link)

She recognizes the shield, first; it's outlined in what little light there is, and she breathes a sigh of relief, small though it might be, because at least if there's two of them they can manage a way out of this, even if they have to rip apart half the forest to do it. But the voice attached to the man carrying it doesn't belong to Rogers, and as she looks a little harder that only confirms that it's someone else entirely.

Still, his possession of it must mean something - it is, at least, a familiar sight, and one that still reassures her however temporarily. She shoves her concerns down and stands a little straighter. "Yeah, I think there's some kind of interference," she explains. "I should be able to light this whole place up and I got nothin'."

She nods to the shield. "That yours?"

stillgotmyleftarm: (bucky barnes)

[personal profile] stillgotmyleftarm 2019-07-14 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
"Huh. Sounds like a neat trick." Which would be great, but - also sounds like it's not going to happen, so there's that.

And in the meantime, the question he gets in return isn't... entirely unfamiliar. It's still weird, but so is a lot of other stuff. "Yeah." Which calls for the maybe obvious followup: "You expecting it to be attached to Rogers?"

Or maybe someone else entirely, but of all the people he'd encountered in the Fleet, at least, it was one or the other. He figures he'll stick with the simpler scenarios for now. Just because Steve never told him about anyone with fireworks powers doesn't mean he hadn't worked with them, after all.

"I'm a pretty good scout, so I can definitely help with that. Faster than Quicksilver, promise you that."

But Captain might not know who that is, so Tommy just lets it all pass on. Food is definitely going to be an issue. Luckily protein mass isn't as much of an issue for him. Sure, he needs it, but his speed needs a lot of carbs.

"I can try helping with meat. I mean, I've never hurt an animal in my life before. But... I mean, to survive? Probably could help some."

Boyfriend's back!

[personal profile] brooklyn_boy 2019-07-14 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Steve has no idea how they got separated. One second they were side by side and then, suddenly, Bucky was nowhere to be seen. It's impossible for Steve to not immediately worry that this is another abduction. It's impossible for him not to believe he's alone, once more, and to feel his heart rate climb.

Steve walks forward with a jacket full of berries and the branch of the tree. He's hoping he's going to find Bucky but isn't expecting it. He shifts quickly, wanting the element of surprise as he moves behind the person, ready to strike.

"He-"

He pauses mid-sentence and drops both things he's holding.

"Bucky!"

He charges forward and wraps his arms around Bucky from behind, tight as a vice. He's here. Bucky is here. Fucking shit, he's going to get handcuffs to stop this from happening.

"What happened?!"
stillgotmyleftarm: (skeptical)

[personal profile] stillgotmyleftarm 2019-07-14 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Bucky would make a noise, probably, but for a second, Steve's squeezed the ability right out of him.

But okay - Bucky can't really mind. Thank God, it's Steve. He drops the shield so he can bring both arms up, hands grasping at Steve's forearms because in this position, he kinda can't really hug back.

"I don't know," he says, and he sounds annoyed because he really doesn't know. "I swear, you were right there, and then you weren't. I guess maybe there's a reason we shouldn't be out here."

He tries to crane his neck around so he can glance back at Steve. "You okay?"
bossofspace: (Default)

[personal profile] bossofspace 2019-07-14 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)

"Yeah," she says, and it sounds like he gets that a lot if he knows what she's probably expecting. "Was he a friend of yours?"

Because the only reason she knows he might give that up is if he's in the ground, and she's not thrilled to hear it.
