TEST DRIVE
Application FAQ | Taken Characters | Reserves | Application
Welcome to the first Test Drive for The Revival Project!
For those who do not know, this game is a spin-off from The Drift Fleet game, which is shortly closing. For more information about what this game is about, please check out the FAQ here or the premise here.
The TDM for the first round of applications is NOT required but is highly recommended. Really this is to see the interest level in the game as well as to have everyone interact on the new planet and with the new experiences offered here. There will be a post in the TDM where questions can be asked regarding the prompts/settings. We're keeping this loose though so go ahead and have fun with it. Any questions about the game please direct to the comment section of the FAQ.
If you are a Drift Fleet alumni, please label your character as 'DFAU' on your top level so we know. Also, keep in mind you have complete flexibility on how your character comes here. They could be taken before endgame, after endgame, two years after, one year before, etc. It's up to you! The only option not allowed is to completely restart your character (because then it's not DFAU, is it?)
So go! Explore Agra 10! And, as always, HAVE FUN!

In the square near your arrival point, one building seems to be in fairly good repair. It’s large and stark white on every wall. Unlike the other buildings, all the lights are on and the windows looking out are intact. That alone would make it remarkable but it’s hardly the most noticeable thing once you step inside the open doorway.
Hanging against one wall is a piece of fabric that has ‘WHALE COMB!’ painted on it in drippy, fluorescent pink letters. A smiley is painted underneath it right on the wall with three eyes and long fangs. The fangs drip down all the way to the floor and the eyes are just a blob of paint, but whoever left it seems to have been trying, here. ‘US THANK THEY!’ is written beside it, barely legible. On every other wall is ‘EAT’ in various sizes and colors. They thankfully don’t drip as much as the smiley since, beneath them, are tables upon tables of food.
There are meats, fruits, root vegetables, and even what might be a sweet dessert of some sort as well. Bowls are full of them, apparently a welcome dinner for the Agrii’s new heroes. At the very least it will give everyone a quick crash course on what is edible around here. But some of it might have … adverse effects:
- People chomping down on the striped meat all seem to get very drowsy a few minutes later.
- The red fruit that looks like a giant cherry is the equivalent of a few shots - the more consumed, the more drunken this party is getting.
- There is a bowl of weeds that have small, daisy-like flowers all along the stalks. This tastes like chicken and gives the eater a sudden burst of energy that will have them running around the room like they’re being chased.
-There are a collection of drinks, some made from the red fruit, some that are clearly water, some that taste like a less-sweet lemonade with no effects, and then there's a blue one that tastes like an especially dark beer. People drinking this will find themselves incapable of lying for a half hour.
Of course, no way to know any of this before you chow down. So dig in and enjoy the show!

They said don’t go into the forest. If the noises there weren’t deterrent enough then the thick trees and lack of paths should have been. Yes, you’ll need food. Yes, both meat and many fruits are in the forest. But maybe you should have gotten some more information before heading in.
Congratulations: you went into the forest and are now lost. You can’t hear the murmurings from town, nor can you see any of the lights that might be flickering on and off in the city. How are you going to get back into town? How do you make sure that the creatures here don’t attack you? You probably don’t have any weapons, so you’d better figure something out quick.
Or, maybe you’ll get lucky and run into another foolish person wandering around out here. Try not to attack them - unless they attack first.

The first thing every survivor needs to find is shelter. Not long after your arrival at the fountain, it’s getting darker now and, even if the night is short (you’re about to find out it’s not!), you don’t want to spend your first one out on an unfamiliar street. Distantly you can hear a sound like a wolf howling through an elephant’s trunk. It’s loud and alien. Maybe you want to find somewhere to sleep a little more quickly.
Right away there are two pretty solid options that will do nicely for the night: an abandoned hotel-like structure and some empty stores.
The hotel structure seems to be the most popular option for others. Its large, overgrown lobby leads you to the staircase and over a dozen floors of rooms in varying conditions. Despite it looking as though no one has set foot in here for decades, the stairs and floors all are secure. The rooms that have doors on them open up to dusty rooms that all have a bathroom (of sorts) attached and long, narrow bed frames. Figuring out a mattress will be a challenge but at least this is a safe place to sleep. As long as no animals laid claim to this room before you got in...
But let’s say the room in the hotel doesn’t work for you. Maybe the room is too small for you. Maybe you don’t like the stairs. Maybe you want someplace private to separate yourself from the rest of these strangers and to think quietly about what to do next. Either way, the other option is any number of abandoned stores lining the block where you arrived. The glass doors and windows of many are broken but there are just as many intact as well. The rooms are all large and empty, as whatever wares inside were either taken or dissolved over the years. There may be a counter or two that will get you off the ground, though. With all this space, you’re bound to find something to sleep on.
Unless someone else got there, first...

Anywhere could be home, as long as they were together.]
I will not disappear on you, Wanda. Though I hardly know what to make of all this.
[He gestures around. The Atroma had seemed weirdly incompetent at times, but at least they had...what, given them food and lodgings right off the bat? Known English? Somewhere along those lines.]
no subject
[Wanda wraps her arms around him and squeezes. She doesn't realize it, but she's leaning into him more heavily than she normally would, and when she tilts her head up at him her eyes are a little glassy, the way they normally are when she has a high fever...or the way they were that time she was hit with a tranquilizer dart.
Of course she's feeling off - being abruptly ripped away from the song of Naviadna after living there for a year had been deeply disorienting. It feels like she's lost someone, and her powers seem somehow muffled now even though she knows this is how they used to feel.
But that's not an explanation for why her eyes seem off.]
Whale comb. Whale. Comb. It is like they heard the words once and tried to guess.
no subject
Or they're using an inexact voice-recognition process. There was advanced technology here before all the destruction. Perhaps whatever remained was also damaged.
[He pulls Wanda close, nothing out of the bounds of propriety but enough to showcase his concern.]
How are you feeling, my love?
no subject
[They're very much in public, but Wanda nuzzles him anyway when Vision pulls her closer. Those are all emotions she's feeling, although that's not quite all there is. She'd been seething before coming to dinner, far beyond anything humor could reach.]
Too light, [she murmurs.] Smaller? It's too quiet. I don't like it.
[Wanda nuzzles him again and sighs softly. He's so warm...] Are you still feeling all right?
no subject
[Well, at least she's relaxed somewhat, but the fuzziness of her answers has him frowning and looking down at her. Is she--]
Darling, did you consume any alcoholic beverages? You seem a bit different.
no subject
[Nothing had been bad, exactly, and nothing had had the unfamiliar burn of alcohol. Even on Naviadna, or especially on Naviadna, Wanda had tended to avoid intoxicants. She has come to trust herself with her powers, but who knows about drunk-Wanda?]
Do you think there is something in the water?
no subject
Hmm. I would say it is unlikely, but I cannot be certain.
[He pokes at the little dragonling, who yawns and wraps its tail around the Vision's finger, trapping it temporarily. He allows it.]
But perhaps some of the food has unintended effects on those who consume it. I would expect the little one to be more curious in a crowd like this.
no subject
Maybe too much meat? But I didn't have as many kinds... [And she's not feeling that sleepy, anyway.] I don't know what it was.
[She huffs, sullen.] The food on the Twin Roses was better. At least the Atroma didn't drug us.
no subject
Hmm. Perhaps we should view as suspect anything you consumed, then.
[He tugs at his finger, but it's caught.]
I never thought I'd hear you nostalgic for protein gel, Wanda.
no subject
It was terrible but it was just food. I don't like feeling like this.
[It's an excuse to stay close to Vision, because walking for any significant distance is...questionable.]
I hope it wasn't the fruit. [There's more than just the red fruit that's actually the culprit, and Wanda had tried a little of all of them. But the red fruit was good, even if she didn't have much stomach for anything.]
no subject
He holds her close so she can lean on him and presses a light kiss to her temple.]
I detected no contaminants in the water, at least. Perhaps drinking more of that will flush it through your system? We can of course conduct a more thorough test of the foodstuffs later. It should be possible to avoid or counteract anything that is causing you malaise.
no subject
She closes her eyes and nuzzles him again at that kiss.]
But I will have to move to drink water.
[Why yes, she's so out of it it hasn't occurred to her to try to call it to herself yet-- and actually, that's probably a good idea.]
I hope it wasn't one of the things I liked.
no subject
I would offer to get some for you, but I appear to be trapped. [He wiggles the free part of his hand. Oh no, the indignity. Maybe they can ask someone else.]
What did you like, that you've tried? This isn't proper science without documentation, you understand.
no subject
But you two are cute.
[He gets another nuzzle and then a thought finally occurs to her.]
I can get it. [One of her hands stops stroking his back long enough to attempt to direct a cup (clumsily) into the water bowl and then shakily bring it over to them...except it only gets a few feet from the table before it falls. Oops. Wanda immediately buries her face in Vision's chest, murmuring something muffled and inaudible but probably apologies.
This, incidentally, is exactly why Wanda has always tried to avoid having any significant amount of alcohol.]
no subject
There, there, my dear. [He pats her back with one hand and tries, again unsuccessfully, to wiggle his finger out from the dragonet's tail. But wait, there is another solution, and he phases his hand free (to a sleepy protest).]
Wait here just a moment, darling.
[He'll get a proper cup of water this time, wishing he knew for sure which foods were safe so he could grab some of them as well. When he gets back, he puts an arm around her and strokes the dragon's spinal ridge in apology.]
Here we are. What are husbands for, if not to fetch refreshments?
no subject
And fortunately for them both, he's back before Wanda can decide that the floor looks comfortable. She could really go for some bread now, and she can't help but miss her favorite bakery on Naviadna. The tables have many foods, but there's not even a cracker to be found here.
She takes the water and manages a small sip. Wanda may be out of it, but at least she knows to take it slowly.]
You're good at so many things, Vision. Like how you made me scream for you last night.
[And with that, Vision's getting a light nose boop. Because reasons.]
no subject
I--that is to say, er--thank you, I suppose.
[Good thing he isn't drinking any water or he would have choked on it.]
I really must identify what's causing this.
[And maybe hold her back from the crowd so she doesn't go telling Steve Rogers that information, okay.]
no subject
I'll have to make it up to you soon, when we're safe.
[Thankfully for Vision, she can be guided to other, safer topics.]
I had some of the meats and I tried most of the fruits. And the thing that looked like a potato. I didn't eat the strange weeds. And the lemonade was not very good so I only had a little.
no subject
Our little friend here tried all the meats, so one of them it ate that you did not may have made it sleepy, but the rest should be safe.
[And it was likely not the potato, if only because tubers tend to have complex starches rather than the simple ones that can easily ferment...if it's actually alcohol that did it. He can't eliminate it yet, though.]
Let's take samples of each, and tomorrow morning you can try them one at a time at various meals to identify it. And it will also give us an example of what they look like, so we can forage for more.
no subject
Wanda drinks a little more water, but it's going to take a while before it starts to purge the fruit's effects.]
Unless they drugged some of the food. I didn't taste anything strange.
[At least she didn't eat whatever-it-is that's making some unfortunate people run around the room. She's just...out of it.]
You're so pretty...I am very lucky. [And he's getting another cheek kiss, but it's a little closer to his jaw than usual. Whoops.]
no subject
Between the jaw-kissing and her earlier words, though, it's becoming more difficult to concentrate. Wanda gets the back of a now-freed finger stroking her cheek lightly in response.]
Is it luck, if you deserve every part of my affection?
[High on his priority list: figure out a mattress, like he was talking about to Steve. And not for sleeping.]
Ah, but who's to say what is strange when all the food options are new? I give it perhaps three days before someone identifies the culprit and starts a bar to serve it in the evenings.
no subject
We are still together, [she murmurs.] Maybe it is luck, maybe not...but I'm glad you're not alone.
[She takes another sip of water and rests her head against him again.]
Three days? I will be surprised if it doesn't happen tomorrow.
no subject
I suppose that would depend on how enterprising everyone is.
[And yet, even with lowered filters, she says something that makes him hold her even tighter for a moment. I'm glad you're not alone. Not I'm glad I'm not alone. Even with their lives turned upside down, she cares so much for how he feels.]
You are here with me. I could face anything, with that alone as support.
We'll figure this out together.
no subject
At least the worst anyone can say about Vision right now is that he clearly loves his wife very much. She nuzzles him again when he holds her tighter and sighs softly. Now would be a great time for cuddling...if only there was a place for it.]
You are all I need. [The little dragon chirps sleepily and Wanda giggles.] And you're important too. I will keep you both safe.
no subject
...He feels a little guilty at how invigorating it is to have a fresh problem to solve, but then, at least they're still helping people here.]
I will look forward to it, my love.
[And why not cuddle a little more? Hopefully the mysterious intoxicant doesn't come with a heavy hangover. She should probably try the other foods and talk to people, some they've never seen before and some they're seeing again for the first time in a year. He doesn't want to hog her attention (until after the party, anyway).]
