SPRING TEST DRIVE MEME
Application FAQ | Taken Characters | Reserves | Application

Welcome to the Current Test Drive for The Revival Project!

This game is a spin-off from the closed The Drift Fleet game. For more information about the game, including more details on the setting, please check out the FAQ here or the premise here.

A thread on the TDM will be required for all applications. Please view the FAQ for information about how this works. Any questions about the game please direct to the comment section of the FAQ as well.

If you are a Drift Fleet alumni bringing your character from the game, please label your character as 'DFAU' on your top level. Also, keep in mind you have complete flexibility on how your character comes here. They could be taken before endgame, after endgame, two years after, one year before, etc. It's up to you! If you want to completely restart your character, they're not considered DFAU anymore and won't need the label.

So go! Explore Agra 10! And, as always, HAVE FUN!

Thread ideas:

Spring in Temba and Sh'Ka
While the snow has disappeared, the glitter it appears to have turned into remains. Small red, pink, white and purple particles, some in the shapes of stars and little hearts (both realistic and stylized) are covering Temba in a sparkling blanket just as the snow had before. Walking through it will send glittering swirls of it into the air to settle back on the ground again gently.

Despite the sparkling cover, young plants have begun to sprout, young green stems peeking out between pink and red and purple.

Sh'Ka, also, has been freed of its more icy coverage. The glitter here is a lot finer and the layer of it covering the overgrown city not nearly as thick as in Temba. Instead, the glittery mist every move brushes up in the air hangs there much longer and seems reluctant, even, to settle back down.

Despite those differences both cities are currently very, very sparkly...

Explore the city Temba!
Here's a map of Temba and a bit more description of some of the buildings here.

Most of the buildings are run down and have clearly been abandoned for years; fortunately, the water treatment center appears to be working, but power is intermittent and unreliable. What used to be stores or places to live in lies in ruins, but there may still be something to scavenge among the rubble. Do you want to risk a swim in the flooded area that has turned into a deep lake that has yet to be fully explored; or does it draw you to some of the more prominent and partially restored buildings, such as the hotel, the hospital or the amphitheater.

If you are lucky, you might even stumble over The Deep End, the bar located on one of the mid-levels of the tower residences in one of the residence towers. Unfortunately no bright neon signs can lead you there, but it does exist.

Visit the spaceships!
That's right, there are currently several small spaceships sitting in the hangar. Not all of them may be around when you check out the building, as one of the pilots may be using one of them to fly over to Sh'Ka. But there should still enough of them around for you to inspect and maybe wonder about. However, only one of them will open its doors for you. Do you dare to step inside? Check out the protein paste or maybe even meet one of your crew mates?

Try the network!
Upon arrival, your character will have on their person a small, handheld communications device. Maybe they know exactly how to use a computer, smartphone, or tablet, and immediately blast out a text or video trying to figure out what's going on. Or maybe they're not so tech-savvy after all, and everyone is about to get a lovely shot right up your character's left nostril.

There be storms...
These power-altering storms keep ravaging parts of the planet every once in a while. No one truly knows where they come from or what to do about them yet, but one of them appears to be approaching. You have the option to find shelter in one of the buildings to wait for it to pass. Unless, of course, you rather feel drawn to investigate.

Should you step inside the storm, or even get lost in it, it will show ghosts of people you know and those you don't. It drains you of any super-human abilities and tries its best to keep you from getting to its origin. Are you going to try anyways? Or are you going to chase the whispers of people from your past? Maybe you will simply find yourself calling for help or stumble across another lost soul in need of assistance.

More information can be found here.

Wildcard!
You're welcome to use any previous test drive scenarios or previous game events as a basis for a thread/situation, or simply make up your own! Keep in mind that you're currently stranded on a planet with only basic necessities, but there is enough food and fresh water. Creature comforts, however, seem to be distinctly lacking. Quite unlike a gathering of potentially dangerous creatures to encounter. The setting is yours to explore and have fun with!

Antonio Vega | Original Character

[personal profile] architector 2022-04-02 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
spring time
He would count his lucky stars later for the blessing of arriving after sunset. He could sense the sun, moving slowly away, a prickling at the else of his awareness that urged his body into action rather than relaxation. A survival instinct, knowing the position of the sun. He would need to find shelter before the turn of this world brought it back around again, but that was hours away. Plenty of time to take in the surroundings and find a place he could fortify and sleep through the day without risking exposure.

Antonio could, instead, turn his attention to his new surroundings, a physical impossibility that his senses of smell and hearing were making a reality. He would also believe senility was drifting into his mind, if vampires fell prey to such afflictions. Instead, he was left with only one answer: his senses were speaking true and this place and all its myriad smells and sounds, existed, possible or not.

After the less than comforting information dump into his mind, he wandered away from the fountain, keen eyes distracted by the glittering reflection of the starlight upon the snow.

No, not snow. He stopped after a moment, crouching to look at the ground covering, eye narrowing in confusion. He reached down a delicate hand, picking up one, single piece of the glittering stuff, holding aloft a rather small but undeniably human heart-shape.

“Glitter?” His voice was soft, and sported a slight accent, making the t’s more pronounced, but it was difficult to pinpoint other than something vaguely western European. He looked around at the ground, brows lowering all the further. “It is all glitter…?”

Senility was sounding more and more welcome.

\video\ || after midnight

[Wherever the man is, it’s fairly dark, and his face, and thus the video feed, are illuminated mostly by a single lit candle off to his right. As such, not much of his surroundings are visible, though dust motes seem to drift through the video feed occasionally, and those who are keen of hearing, may hear a slow water drip somewhere that sounds like it’s echoing.

The man on the feed smiles, though, and it’s friendly, though there’s a hawkish glint to his eyes, and they reflect the light like a feline’s at time, depending on how he shifts when he speaks.
]

Good evening, everyone. I apologize for the late-night call, but I’m surely not the only newcomer to arrive at odd hours. I’ve secured accommodations for the evening, but if any of you happen to be suffering from insomnia and wouldn’t mind giving a ‘newbie’ [He uses air quotes] a bit of a hand? The…what I assume is a welcome center was…less than informative. To begin, my name is Antonio.

spring

While not necessarily nocturnal, Celty Sturluson was used to operating at night. She was unhindered by the darkness, a shadow in its natural habitat. But this was a lonely city, and she didn't realize how much she could miss crowded streets and the buzz of humans going about their business at any given hour of the day.

No rumble of an engine heralded the coming of her motorcycle, only the faint crunch of tires on the unkempt roads. Not even the light of the moon reflected off of any of its surfaces, only the glitter that got tossed up in its wake, and perhaps stuck in its treads. It was quite annoying, the glitter.

His keen hearing was even further turned to the sounds around him, cautious as he was regarding anything that may be approaching unawares. The very existence of the communication device pressing the notion there were others here, even if he couldn't smell them. More disturbing is what his eyes showed him when he turned, faster to see by any without preternatural senses. A slight figure, approaching at speed, atop a motorcycle whose wheels made more sense than its unknown means of propulsion.

He could hear the glitter and gravel sluicing in its wake, but not the device itself. Perhaps he was dreaming...

[personal profile] tsundullahan 2022-04-03 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
A dream, a nightmare- the latter was how some in Ikebukurou would describe it, but then much of urban legends and the unknown tended to gain more of a spooky, negative reputation than not. But though the roads here weren't smooth or long enough when they ran straight, the motorcycle navigated easily along them.

Ah, they weren't alone out here tonight. Celty could make out the figure in the darkness, if barely. The bike gave him a wide berth as it she brought it to a gentle skid of a stop a few meters away. Her helmeted head turned towards him, the brightest thing on her by far and the only thing that caught the light, however giving no hint of what lay past the dark visor.

He turned in kind to regard this errant rider and her mystery motorcycle, and as he does, his eyes catch a stray light, reflecting much like a cat's as he tilts his head to the side curiously. Was she an arrival, like himself, or a native?

"Greetings." He would attempt to make the first bridge, then.
tsundullahan: (put some clothes on)

[personal profile] tsundullahan 2022-04-05 04:51 am (UTC)(link)
A nod was given in turn. No other words followed, but for good reason. Instead, the helmeted rider slipped out the communication tablet from her pocket, deft fingers tapping out her words. She started to hold up the device, then realizing it a bit awkward given the space between them.

Ah, she thought, moving to slip off the motorcycle's seat. Though she made no move to push any down, a kickstand seemed to suddenly materialize there to keep the bike from toppling once she stepped away from it. Again she held up her tablet.

[Hello. I don't think I've seen you here before.]

He couldn't help but consider the entire spectacle somewhat strange, otherworldly even, to spite the irony of that particular thought. He watched her intently as the hammered away on her communicator, and read her introduction even before she closed the distance. She didn't need to know he had no trouble reading at that range, of course, the old habits of hiding his nature snapping into place.

He smiled. "Hello, and I should hope not. I've only just arrived." He inclined his head in greeting. "I am Antonio."

[I see.]

She only knew so many people so she didn't want to assume. At his introduction, she gave a nod of her own. Her fingers swept across her tablet again.

[I'm Celty. Welcome to Temba, I guess.]

Given the circumstances she wondered that any welcome would be...welcome, but it didn't hurt to be nice.

His eyes darted to her screen again for a moment before nodding. "My thanks, whether it's heartfelt or not."

He did cast his gaze around the place, though. His eyes were attuned to the dark, and the night was as well illuminated as the daytime sky to those with less efficient eyes. The near-crumbling streets and neglected structures were telling.

"What happened here?"
tsundullahan: (hmm)

[personal profile] tsundullahan 2022-04-17 08:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Celty followed his glance, or at least she seemed to a she turned her helmet towards the rest of the area.

[Abandoned, if the glowing ball by the fountain is true in what it offers.]

She paused, withdrawing her tablet again to type a bit more before she held it out once more.

[It's unpleasant, getting information shoved into your head.]

So to speak, anyway, at least in her case. She didn't wonder too much about how that worked.

[It seems like the people who used to live here were forced away because of some strange storms that started to occur, that are somehow life-threatening to them.]

"Yes, but if it's truly abandoned, why task us with restoring it? Surely with such technology at their disposal, they could relocate elsewhere." Though, after spending so long on Earth, he'd have to admit he's rather attached to it.

"It was, undeniably uncomfortable." He nodded. He understood, at least to an extent, what it was showing him, but he questioned exactly how thorough the information these 'Agrii' had provided was. Seldom were things so cut and dry.

"Which suggests relocation rather than restoration, unless there's something here they can't get elsewhere, yes?"
tsundullahan: (hmm)

[personal profile] tsundullahan 2022-04-18 05:38 am (UTC)(link)
The helmeted rider shook her head. She didn't really understand it either. But then even thoughts of traveling to another world, or to seek out another homeworld were far beyond anything she'd ever considered.

[Maybe they don't know where else to go. Space is vast, isn't it?

I don't know if there's something specific they need here. Maybe it's sentiment?

"Understandable. I'm rather partial to my home myself." And there was a note of sadness in his voice, there. "There needs must be dire if they would pull us from our homes to save theirs. That, or I underestimate their selfishness."
tsundullahan: (my face is not a mirror)

[personal profile] tsundullahan 2022-04-19 04:24 am (UTC)(link)
That wasn't something she could really offer an opinion on. From what she'd seen of the Agrii so far, they offered nothing about themselves but made some strange attempts to make their "he-rows" be more...happy? Comfortable? She wasn't even sure of that, she realized. The gifts they'd been offered some months ago had been very random, and she had no idea what all everyone else had received.

She was reluctant to offer a shrug at that, her head bowing slightly in apology, a habit surely picked up from living in Japan for twenty years.

Spend a few hundred years among humanity and body language begins to speak as loudly to you as any spoken or typed words. Her motions were noncommittal which Antonio understood. His own observations were nothing but conjecture. He'd need to know more about this place, the people who inhabited it, and the people who kept them here to have a more thorough view of anything.

And that meant finding some means of shelter from the rays of a sun that would, no doubt, be coming. He could feel the burning ball of energy as surely as he could the ground beneath his feet, though that could also be paranoia. No sun was his friend.

"I suppose it doesn't really matter at the moment. Where do us refugees reside?"
tsundullahan: (spoilers: celty is an alien)

[personal profile] tsundullahan 2022-04-19 05:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Celty was a little relieved at the shift in subjects. She really didn't consider herself the best to answer such questions, though she knew others who at least had said they'd had contact with the Agrii before.

[You might better ask someone like Tony. He's apparently met the Agrii before.

As for a place to stay, we're allowed to go anywhere, at least that hasnt' already been claimed by somewhere. But there's also the hotel. It's at least prepared for people to make immediate use of.
]

She looked around and pointed out the building in question.

Tony. It wasn't a difficult name to commit to memory, as he was called the same moniker on occasion, and so he nodded, shifting his gaze instead to the hotel she'd indicated. It had high windows that could be covered if the need arose, but he wasn't too keen on sharing daytime living space with people he didn't trust. When vampires slept, they slept deeply.

"Any of the buildings not currently claimed are available? There's no one enforcing the eradication of squatters, then?" That was promising.
tsundullahan: (put some clothes on)

[personal profile] tsundullahan 2022-04-21 04:56 am (UTC)(link)
A nod was given in response to that, even as her fingers were applied to her tablet again.

[There's no law enforcement in general, really. At least not officially.

But so far as things go, places are open to be used as they're available, and while there's no system of payment, I guess people are expected to help out as they can with things.
