SPRING TEST DRIVE MEME
Application FAQ | Taken Characters | Reserves | Application

Welcome to the Current Test Drive for The Revival Project!

This game is a spin-off from the closed The Drift Fleet game. For more information about the game, including more details on the setting, please check out the FAQ here or the premise here.

A thread on the TDM will be required for all applications. Please view the FAQ for information about how this works. Any questions about the game please direct to the comment section of the FAQ as well.

If you are a Drift Fleet alumni bringing your character from the game, please label your character as 'DFAU' on your top level. Also, keep in mind you have complete flexibility on how your character comes here. They could be taken before endgame, after endgame, two years after, one year before, etc. It's up to you! If you want to completely restart your character, they're not considered DFAU anymore and won't need the label.

So go! Explore Agra 10! And, as always, HAVE FUN!

Thread ideas:

Spring in Temba and Sh'Ka
While the snow has disappeared, the glitter it appears to have turned into remains. Small red, pink, white and purple particles, some in the shapes of stars and little hearts (both realistic and stylized) are covering Temba in a sparkling blanket just as the snow had before. Walking through it will send glittering swirls of it into the air to settle back on the ground again gently.

Despite the sparkling cover, young plants have begun to sprout, young green stems peeking out between pink and red and purple.

Sh'Ka, also, has been freed of its more icy coverage. The glitter here is a lot finer and the layer of it covering the overgrown city not nearly as thick as in Temba. Instead, the glittery mist every move brushes up in the air hangs there much longer and seems reluctant, even, to settle back down.

Despite those differences both cities are currently very, very sparkly...

Explore the city Temba!
Here's a map of Temba and a bit more description of some of the buildings here.

Most of the buildings are run down and have clearly been abandoned for years; fortunately, the water treatment center appears to be working, but power is intermittent and unreliable. What used to be stores or places to live in lies in ruins, but there may still be something to scavenge among the rubble. Do you want to risk a swim in the flooded area that has turned into a deep lake that has yet to be fully explored; or does it draw you to some of the more prominent and partially restored buildings, such as the hotel, the hospital or the amphitheater.

If you are lucky, you might even stumble over The Deep End, the bar located on one of the mid-levels of the tower residences in one of the residence towers. Unfortunately no bright neon signs can lead you there, but it does exist.

Visit the spaceships!
That's right, there are currently several small spaceships sitting in the hangar. Not all of them may be around when you check out the building, as one of the pilots may be using one of them to fly over to Sh'Ka. But there should still enough of them around for you to inspect and maybe wonder about. However, only one of them will open its doors for you. Do you dare to step inside? Check out the protein paste or maybe even meet one of your crew mates?

Try the network!
Upon arrival, your character will have on their person a small, handheld communications device. Maybe they know exactly how to use a computer, smartphone, or tablet, and immediately blast out a text or video trying to figure out what's going on. Or maybe they're not so tech-savvy after all, and everyone is about to get a lovely shot right up your character's left nostril.

There be storms...
These power-altering storms keep ravaging parts of the planet every once in a while. No one truly knows where they come from or what to do about them yet, but one of them appears to be approaching. You have the option to find shelter in one of the buildings to wait for it to pass. Unless, of course, you rather feel drawn to investigate.

Should you step inside the storm, or even get lost in it, it will show ghosts of people you know and those you don't. It drains you of any super-human abilities and tries its best to keep you from getting to its origin. Are you going to try anyways? Or are you going to chase the whispers of people from your past? Maybe you will simply find yourself calling for help or stumble across another lost soul in need of assistance.

More information can be found here.

Wildcard!
You're welcome to use any previous test drive scenarios or previous game events as a basis for a thread/situation, or simply make up your own! Keep in mind that you're currently stranded on a planet with only basic necessities, but there is enough food and fresh water. Creature comforts, however, seem to be distinctly lacking. Quite unlike a gathering of potentially dangerous creatures to encounter. The setting is yours to explore and have fun with!

“Saying 'we' isn't answering about 'you', Tommy ‘Speed’ Shepherd.” As with every parent: When you get full-named (well, alias included), you know she means it. Even if she does say it with now what's shifted into an amused smirk at the corner of her lips. Avoidance is also a key of this family sometimes. “If I eat whatever this weird sounding food is that's not what it's supposed to be, can you tell me about you here?” Fair deal, yes? She hopes??

Oh. Oh. She knows him. Ouch, he feels like he's being chided, and he winces at that. She went there.

"It's not all Persephone shit here, so eating won't be, like, trapping you here. I think. Probably? Maybe that's been our mistake here. But yeah, I can tell you."

Then he takes a step forward, a bit nervous looking.

"I just don't know if it's you or not. I mean, you're clearly you, but I've met other Wandas before."

She hopes at least other Wandas who weren't quite as complicated as she is. “Well, hm... does Krakoa and resurrections mean something to you, or would I sound weird talking about that? You can tell me what you last remember from where you were, if that's easier than me trying to guess.”

"Mom," he says, because that's all he needs to really confirm it. He moves with all the speed of his powers, pausing just short to bleed off the momentum before offering her a hug.

"I didn't know you knew about resurrection stuff. David told me and I know he's not supposed to have told me. I definitely wouldn't think they'd tell you."

They were horrible about her there, and it made it awkward for him to visit.

"Billy and Teddy's wedding. The second one. Up in space."

She wraps her arms around him in a tight (but not too tight) hug. She's not letting go until he does. “That makes two of us who know more than they should or more than others think they do. Good for David spilling those beans, too.” Even if he wasn't supposed to, at least it meant that Tommy knew. “It's a long story like all the damn rest we get into, but the very abridged version is I got my chance to make up for my largest mistake with Erik and Lorna's help.”

[personal profile] doubled_speed 2022-05-08 04:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, she's going to be stuck here for a while then, because after all he's been through recently, all the loss, he's not ready to let her go. Really, she's lucky that he's months behind, or she might have a son trailing her with all the nervous energy Pietro often turned on her.

"He's a great guy to me," Tommy answered. "There when I need him. And when I don't. He's really great."

Wait, make up for her largest mistake? He pulls back just enough to look up at her.

"Something happens on Krakoa then? I mean, more than the stuff I know like David being some sorta hot noir detective now?"

“I'm glad he is, because I want you to have every good thing you can; you deserve all of them and more.” In their world, or while they're stuck on this one.

She laughs slightly. “David's your hot noir detective, and I wanted to find a way to revive mutants who died before being backed up by Cerebro and increasing the power of what the resurrection protocols could do. It involved me having to get a little messy in the process, but it was worth it.” How to say you had to die for a hot minute to do it without saying it.

[personal profile] doubled_speed 2022-05-08 05:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep, definitely mom. Fucking hell this is nice, just being embraced by her. Her having time for him. Though 'a little messy' definitely worries him, he's not going to pry.

"Yeah, he's great. I hope you got to meet him. It felt way too weird to try and bring him over to meet you at the wedding. How do you introduce your mom to the guy that could kinda be your boyfriend but you don't know if you should call him that or not, and you don't know if he's gonna be weird about it because he was one of the depowered, but he promises he's not gonna be weird and-"

He catches his ranting and stops. She doesn't need the baggage. Or to know that he's not confident enough to call David his boyfriend yet or talk about some of the weird stuff he's only just getting into with his brother, or talking about time spent with Pietro and all that.

“I'm not going anywhere, so you guys figure you two out and then we can have a proper family dinner, likely awkwardness included. Because what's a 'meet the family' dinner without awkwardness?” Even if their flavor of awkwardness is a little more than the standard kind.

“My next daunting task is to try to be a redeemed mom, now that hopefully you and Billy won't wrongly get so much grief for my faults. Which I'm so sorry for, for what you've had to bear because of me.” She feels her eyes start to water a bit, and her voice does a little shake. That was, in her opinion, the worst consequence of her actions — the things they've probably had thought about them, said to them, even looks they've gotten. She can try to deal with it all when it comes to those things said and thought about her, but when she thinks about the impact it's had on her children, it just crushes her heart every time.

"I've literally never brought anyone home," Tommy points out. Not to her, not to the Kaplans, and definitely not to the Shepherds. Hell, he doesn't even know if Vision is aware of David, and he was at the wedding too.

"Given our family, we're pretty much always awkward. I mean, have you met Billiam? Actually, yeah, have you? I'm guessing no, cause he would have messaged me so fast to let me know you're here."

A redeemable Mom. Hell, she's already a better one than Mary ever was, for the fact that she was willing to claim him. But she needs comfort and he needs to keep himself from being sappy, so he squeezes her more tightly and leave it at that.

“Exactly, a first time for everything. We can probably do a family dinner, right? And can manage one 'normal' social thing?” (Probably not but let her dream ok.)

“But no, I haven't see him here yet - I'm not surprised he is here, though. I'll be sure to try to find him next.” Family finding each other through multiverses, they're good at that one too. She takes a breath to compose herself again, and returns the squeeze. “Just don't forget I love you, even if I am a mess at being a lot of other things.”
doubled_speed: (Default)

[personal profile] doubled_speed 2022-05-08 06:26 pm (UTC)(link)
"Normal," Tommy laughs. That's not how all of this works for him. He's nothing like normal and he's come to accept that.

"I believe you," he says, his voice soft. He really does. Shocking to believe it, but he does. Wanda's the family that wants him. Like Viv. Like Nadia. Like he wishes Vizh would.

"I wish you weren't here.

“It's not like I couldn't use the break from home, anyway. And I'd already bet there are worse places to be stuck than here, even if I can't judge this place fairly yet because I don't know all of its dark secrets - aside from terrible food, apparently.”

[personal profile] doubled_speed 2022-05-08 07:15 pm (UTC)(link)
"Trust me, three years here and you judge it pretty damn harsh," Tommy sighs. He's not liked it. Worst was that he didn't get to keep the people he cared about here.

"You hungry? I can get you some stuff."

“Fair enough. If I wind up eating my words, you can have sole rights to the I-told-you-so's.” Seems fair to her. “Food sounds like a plan. Where are we headed?” Regretfully, she unwraps her arms from him, because walking and hugging at the same time is hard.

"I like those rights," Tommy said.

"Diner," he says, moving to the edge of the roof and pointing at a building across the square. "It's mine, for some fucking reason."
