SPRING TEST DRIVE MEME
Application FAQ | Taken Characters | Reserves | Application

Welcome to the Current Test Drive for The Revival Project!

This game is a spin-off from the closed The Drift Fleet game. For more information about the game, including more details on the setting, please check out the FAQ here or the premise here.

A thread on the TDM will be required for all applications. Please view the FAQ for information about how this works. Any questions about the game please direct to the comment section of the FAQ as well.

If you are a Drift Fleet alumni bringing your character from the game, please label your character as 'DFAU' on your top level. Also, keep in mind you have complete flexibility on how your character comes here. They could be taken before endgame, after endgame, two years after, one year before, etc. It's up to you! If you want to completely restart your character, they're not considered DFAU anymore and won't need the label.

So go! Explore Agra 10! And, as always, HAVE FUN!

Thread ideas:

Spring in Temba and Sh'Ka
While the snow has disappeared, the glitter it appears to have turned into remains. Small red, pink, white and purple particles, some in the shapes of stars and little hearts (both realistic and stylized) are covering Temba in a sparkling blanket just as the snow had before. Walking through it will send glittering swirls of it into the air to settle back on the ground again gently.

Despite the sparkling cover, young plants have begun to sprout, young green stems peeking out between pink and red and purple.

Sh'Ka, also, has been freed of its more icy coverage. The glitter here is a lot finer and the layer of it covering the overgrown city not nearly as thick as in Temba. Instead, the glittery mist every move brushes up in the air hangs there much longer and seems reluctant, even, to settle back down.

Despite those differences both cities are currently very, very sparkly...

Explore the city Temba!
Here's a map of Temba and a bit more description of some of the buildings here.

Most of the buildings are run down and have clearly been abandoned for years; fortunately, the water treatment center appears to be working, but power is intermittent and unreliable. What used to be stores or places to live in lies in ruins, but there may still be something to scavenge among the rubble. Do you want to risk a swim in the flooded area that has turned into a deep lake that has yet to be fully explored; or does it draw you to some of the more prominent and partially restored buildings, such as the hotel, the hospital or the amphitheater.

If you are lucky, you might even stumble over The Deep End, the bar located on one of the mid-levels of the tower residences in one of the residence towers. Unfortunately no bright neon signs can lead you there, but it does exist.

Visit the spaceships!
That's right, there are currently several small spaceships sitting in the hangar. Not all of them may be around when you check out the building, as one of the pilots may be using one of them to fly over to Sh'Ka. But there should still enough of them around for you to inspect and maybe wonder about. However, only one of them will open its doors for you. Do you dare to step inside? Check out the protein paste or maybe even meet one of your crew mates?

Try the network!
Upon arrival, your character will have on their person a small, handheld communications device. Maybe they know exactly how to use a computer, smartphone, or tablet, and immediately blast out a text or video trying to figure out what's going on. Or maybe they're not so tech-savvy after all, and everyone is about to get a lovely shot right up your character's left nostril.

There be storms...
These power-altering storms keep ravaging parts of the planet every once in a while. No one truly knows where they come from or what to do about them yet, but one of them appears to be approaching. You have the option to find shelter in one of the buildings to wait for it to pass. Unless, of course, you rather feel drawn to investigate.

Should you step inside the storm, or even get lost in it, it will show ghosts of people you know and those you don't. It drains you of any super-human abilities and tries its best to keep you from getting to its origin. Are you going to try anyways? Or are you going to chase the whispers of people from your past? Maybe you will simply find yourself calling for help or stumble across another lost soul in need of assistance.

More information can be found here.

Wildcard!
You're welcome to use any previous test drive scenarios or previous game events as a basis for a thread/situation, or simply make up your own! Keep in mind that you're currently stranded on a planet with only basic necessities, but there is enough food and fresh water. Creature comforts, however, seem to be distinctly lacking. Quite unlike a gathering of potentially dangerous creatures to encounter. The setting is yours to explore and have fun with!

Despite not knowing, there was something comforting about being in the same circumstances with Marc. Where everything was frightfully different and nothing made sense.

It meant he wasn't facing it alone.

Steven found encouragement in that statement. Bleary-eyed and sniffling, he did his best to compose himself by readjusting the collar of his hooded jacket, smoothing it out as he inhaled deeply, blowing it all out after a few beats.

"...Yeah. Alright," he answered. "We'll figure it out."
knightlyperformance: (is it over yet)

[personal profile] knightlyperformance 2022-05-09 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
"All right." Marc nodded. "Let's take this slow then. We just got a bunch of alien information shoved into our heads and I'm not sure how trustworthy that is, so we need to see what else we can find out. There's still a whole lot we don't know about this place, or if anyone else is here."
notsuitedforthis: (That's the question innit?)

[personal profile] notsuitedforthis 2022-05-09 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
Steven squinted, slowly tapping at the air. "Right. Finding other people would be our best bet," he added, glancing about the empty square. "If...anyone made an appearance. Is it always this quiet?"

After searching in vain for another life form to cross his path, he stood up, patting himself down like he forgot something.
knightlyperformance: (unsure)

[personal profile] knightlyperformance 2022-05-09 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
The sigh in response wasn't towards Steven so much as it was in taking in the very empty surroundings. Surely they couldn't be the only ones in the whole place. It was a little unsettling to finally be somewhere so quiet with only you and yourself to fill it.

"Not quite how I imagined it..." Marc murmured to himself. "There has to be some signs of life. This fountain's still running, that's...that's a good sign, right?" He might be grasping at straws but he hoped it wasn't just due to aliens having superb plumbing that outlasted their buildings despite years of being abandoned. "What're you doing? We should check the buildings- here, give me the body, we don't know what all's out there."

"It's nice, but maybe if there was a little more noise than this..."

Steven trailed off as he finally hit something, digging into his pocket to pull out the device. "Ah, found it- wait. This isn't my phone." Holding it up to his face, he poked at it. "Marc, this isn't my phone, where is my phone- " He was barely listening, making a face at the limited choices the device had on its interface. "What does this even say? 'Mass sages'? 'He Row Come You Knee Cay Shun'??"
knightlyperformance: (you expect me to believe that?)

[personal profile] knightlyperformance 2022-05-09 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
Marc sucked in a breath, ready to press on his request again. "We're on an alien planet and you're worried about your phone. I think you've got your priorities a little skewed there," he said, only half-listening as Steven started poking at the device until the words on his end lapsed.

"What? What language are you- that is a terrible accent, come on- you know English."
notsuitedforthis: (Liiiightbulb)

[personal profile] notsuitedforthis 2022-05-09 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
"-I'm just reading what's listed, mate, it's all in plain English! Look, the only two words that make sense are 'crew' and 'net work'- " Steven visibly flailed his arm around, eyes widening as he had an epiphany. "-Oh! Oh, I think I get it now! 'Net work' shouldn't have a space between the words, it should be one smashed together, yeah? Then Dick Shun Airy is...Dictionary? That's terrible!"

Although he sounded a little delighted about it. He wasn't really listening as he continued rattling on.

"It's not just bad writing, it's all phonetics - and literal spelling in some cases - but if there's a network..." An idea struck. "-You know what, maybe we should give the network a go before we set about crawling 'round these buildings, yeah?"
knightlyperformance: (unsure)

With Steven babbling as he was, Marc was having a difficult time trying to get a word in, edgewise. But slowly dawning of understanding was coming upon him.

"Wait, wait, wait. Where did you get that? Was it just there?" As Steven deciphered the terrible word puzzle, Marc started to pace. He jerked his head up at the mention of a network.

"You think that's really a good idea? We don't know anything except what that ball showed us. Giving us something like that seems a little too convenient, you know?"
notsuitedforthis: (A bit dazed but present)

[personal profile] notsuitedforthis 2022-05-09 06:05 am (UTC)(link)
He was in the middle of sounding out 'He Row Come You Knee Cay Shun' just as Marc interrupted him, glancing away from the device with a tentative shrug.

"I don't know, it was on me. And I see your point, but don't you think we can use a little convenience? After all we've been through so far?" Steven could use a break. "Besides, it can't hurt to try."

He said this while waving the device around, wiggling it in his hand as if it would convince him.
knightlyperformance: (you expect me to believe that?)

[personal profile] knightlyperformance 2022-05-09 06:13 am (UTC)(link)
Hesitation. Marc had been through too much to believe in convenience. There simply was no such thing.

"Or, or- and hear me out on this- or it could be a trap and all that stuff about aliens losing their home just completely made up to lull us into some false sense of security so that the real aliens or whatever who're out there can come and just you know. Kill us." Eat their brains. Whatever it is aliens do.
notsuitedforthis: (No not feeling it)

[personal profile] notsuitedforthis 2022-05-09 08:00 am (UTC)(link)
"If it is, then it's a pretty elaborate trap, don't you think?"

Steven had hoped calling someone would give them a leg up, but he really couldn't say Marc was wrong. He had been cornered in the museum and removed from his apartment - two separate occasions in which he should have been safe.

He briefly puffed out his cheeks, toying with the device as he sighed. "True enough."
knightlyperformance: (uh-huh)

[personal profile] knightlyperformance 2022-05-09 06:13 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, but neither of us are exactly an expert on aliens to say otherwise, right?" Marc's hand twitched, gesturing around them. "So we take a look around. Do some recon. You know what that means, right?"

He pointed at the tablet. "And then if there's nothing else, we'll...we'll try that. Okay?"
notsuitedforthis: (Egyptian Fun Fact)

[personal profile] notsuitedforthis 2022-05-09 06:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Steven knew what he meant. He didn't like it, but what other choice did they have? "Fine," he said a few moments later, glancing at the tablet one more time before pocketing it. "We'll do it your way first."

As he mentally prepared for it, he belatedly jabbed a finger at his reflection. "Promise you'll switch out with me if we come up empty? I'm holding you to it, mate."
knightlyperformance: (you expect me to believe that?)

[personal profile] knightlyperformance 2022-05-09 06:40 pm (UTC)(link)
The reflection sagged, relieved that Steven was being sensible. Truthfully he was a little reluctant about the idea of switching out in a place like this, but there was no one else to rely on, and if anything, Marc at least had to rely on Steven. They wouldn't get anywhere- or get back to Layla- if they didn't cooperate. His hesitation showed, but he started to nod, raising his hands again.

"All right, all right. Fine. I promise. But you gotta work with me here too, got it?"
notsuitedforthis: (A bit dazed but present)

[personal profile] notsuitedforthis 2022-05-09 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
"Got it. Yeah..." He muttered under his breath, shaking out the hem of his shirt once he got Marc's word on the deal. Despite sounding wary, he held onto the hope that things would go fairly well while they cooperated. And he would remind him if he didn't keep his end of the bargain. It shouldn't be a problem, however.

Brushing his hair from his face didn't do anything as he stared back into the water, the muscles in his body tense as he waited for Marc's cue.
knightlyperformance: (i'd rather punch your face in)

[personal profile] knightlyperformance 2022-05-09 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Marc stared back, waiting for that door to open. There was still something of a resistance every time he pushed to the forefront of their consciousness for control, but once he was through the true strangeness of their surroundings came into full focus through all his senses; the oddly fresh air, the sound of the trickling water from the fountain, and the lack of other sounds thereafter.

He turned around slowly to take things in with his own eyes before patting himself down to see what all they had to work with. Finding only the strange tablet Steven had pointed out earlier wasn't exactly promising, and with a scowl he slipped it back into a pocket, tugging at his clothes in a fruitless effort to make them look less rumpled.

"Okay. Now let's see what we've gotten ourselves into..."
