SUMMER TEST DRIVE MEME
Application FAQ | Taken Characters | Reserves | Application

Welcome to the Current Test Drive for The Revival Project!

This game is a spin-off from the closed The Drift Fleet game. For more information about the game, including more details on the setting, please check out the FAQ here or the premise here.

A thread on the TDM will be required for all applications. Please view the FAQ for information about how this works. Any questions about the game please direct to the comment section of the FAQ as well.

If you are a Drift Fleet alumni bringing your character from the game, please label your character as 'DFAU' on your top level. Also, keep in mind you have complete flexibility on how your character comes here. They could be taken before endgame, after endgame, two years after, one year before, etc. It's up to you! If you want to completely restart your character, they're not considered DFAU anymore and won't need the label.

So go! Explore Agra 10! And, as always, HAVE FUN!

Thread ideas:

Summer in Temba and Sh'Ka
Summer is a growing season, which seems to be going into overdrive this year. Instead of the gradual growth of plants that one might expect over the seasons, plants are starting to grow with an intense energy, and once clear paths in both cities grow choked over with vines, undergrowth, and even new saplings by the day. It might be wise to find some way to clear those paths as you go.

For those that are in a more summer and sun kind of fun, there's always the beach to the south of Temba, where the sand and surf welcome all comers. However here too there is a lot of growth going on, with new reeds and shore grasses rising up, serving as a great place for fat green lobsters to hide and pinch at the unwary.

Or maybe it's better to explore the buildings these days, with how the plants have taken over everything. However one might well find that less commonly used buildings and ruins have their own plant problems. Some are overgrown with fruitbearing vines, and others filled with wide swaths of various forms of mint. Good news there is that the glownies seem to have gotten free, or others have arrived, to feast upon the mintsplosion.

Explore the city Temba!
Here's a map of Temba and a bit more description of some of the buildings here.

Most of the buildings are run down and have clearly been abandoned for years; fortunately, the water treatment center appears to be working, but power is intermittent and unreliable. What used to be stores or places to live in lies in ruins, but there may still be something to scavenge among the rubble. Do you want to risk a swim in the flooded area that has turned into a deep lake that has yet to be fully explored; or does it draw you to some of the more prominent and partially restored buildings, such as the hotel, the hospital or the amphitheater.

If you are lucky, you might even stumble over The Deep End, the bar located on one of the mid-levels of the tower residences in one of the residence towers. Unfortunately no bright neon signs can lead you there, but it does exist.

Visit the spaceships!
That's right, there are currently several small spaceships sitting in the hangar. Not all of them may be around when you check out the building, as one of the pilots may be using one of them to fly over to Sh'Ka. But there should still enough of them around for you to inspect and maybe wonder about. However, only one of them will open its doors for you. Do you dare to step inside? Check out the protein paste or maybe even meet one of your crew mates?

Try the network!
Upon arrival, your character will have on their person a small, handheld communications device. Maybe they know exactly how to use a computer, smartphone, or tablet, and immediately blast out a text or video trying to figure out what's going on. Or maybe they're not so tech-savvy after all, and everyone is about to get a lovely shot right up your character's left nostril.

There be storms...
These power-altering storms keep ravaging parts of the planet every once in a while. No one truly knows where they come from or what to do about them yet, but one of them appears to be approaching. You have the option to find shelter in one of the buildings to wait for it to pass. Unless, of course, you rather feel drawn to investigate.

Should you step inside the storm, or even get lost in it, it will show ghosts of people you know and those you don't. It drains you of any super-human abilities and tries its best to keep you from getting to its origin. Are you going to try anyways? Or are you going to chase the whispers of people from your past? Maybe you will simply find yourself calling for help or stumble across another lost soul in need of assistance.

More information can be found here.

Wildcard!
You're welcome to use any previous test drive scenarios or previous game events as a basis for a thread/situation, or simply make up your own! Keep in mind that you're currently stranded on a planet with only basic necessities, but there is enough food and fresh water. Creature comforts, however, seem to be distinctly lacking. Quite unlike a gathering of potentially dangerous creatures to encounter. The setting is yours to explore and have fun with!

renoreactor: I Am Reno! (Default)

"There's- There's no way to get home?" For all of Omega's attempt to try to get her to cheer up, everything just turns into background noise after that. She slumps to her knees, choking up as she does. The world starts to become blurry and she dabs at an eye, "I... I can't be stuck here. San Diego's going to play with all my collectibles and the Commander's not going to have his sidekick when he needs her and- and who's going to read bedtime comics to Juneau?" That last thought has her finally breaking down, "No, nonono..."

Oh no...

Omega's got little experience in trying to soothe someone like this. Her brothers aren't exactly the type to cry and seemed just as clueless about how to go about it when she'd been in tears herself. But then perhaps that's enough to start. The girl steps closer, moving to sit beside Reno, careful of all her armaments.

"...I felt like that too," she says, nodding in understanding. "I'd never been apart from my brothers before, and I wasn't sure what to do without them. I was worried about them, and how they'd react if they knew I was gone..." She reaches out for Reno's other hand. "But I was told that people do go back sometimes, and when they do, it's like nothing's changed, because you'd go right back to where you wherever and whenever you were." It had been small enough a reassurance, and Omega had clung to it.

"And sometimes the people we know do show up here too. One of my brothers is here. ...you mentioned a commander? Are you with the military? My brother's a soldier."

Both of Reno's hands have the same gloves with the glowing palm, though neither feels hot to the touch. The rigging takes a little more agility to get around, but Omega's small enough to work her way in.

Reddening eyes turn to the little girl with a sniffle, and its then that the shipgirl notices the pointy eartips. For once, she's quiet as someone else is speaking, a little spark behind those purple eyes at the mention that some can go back. That gets her at least speaking again. "I'm- I'm with the Eagle Union, and Azur Lane," she starts to explain, then pauses. "A soldier too. Kinda. Its ... complicated."

She's never seen gloves like Reno's. One of her other brothers has something similar on the back of a glove for beaming holoprojections, so Omega wonders if this is the same thing. That doesn't really explain all the other things, although Reno doesn't seem uncomfortable with it all. Maybe she's just used to all that gear, like Omega's squad is with their armor.

"My brothers' squad is Clone Force Ninety-Nine, formerly of the Grand Army of the Republic," she says, perhaps sounding just a little proud as she can't help but speak highly of them. "They call themselves the Bad Batch. But things are...a little complicated now, too." Omega gives Reno's hand a pat. "It's okay though. You don't have to try explaining if you don't want to."

There had been a brief moment where Reno thought about explaining just how she went from the Pacific theater to here. Thinking about that always gave her headaches, however. Fortunately, magic words were said that suddenly pricked at the nerdy recesses of her mind. "Clone Force? Republic? ... Bad Batch?" There's a shake of her head, "York was telling me all about a Star Wars show named that the last time she was in port-"

A blink. "Wait. You're from there?"
small_compromise: (you sure?)

[personal profile] small_compromise 2022-06-06 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
It's Omega's turn to blink then, looking owlishly at Reno. It certainly sounds like she's familiar with the names somehow, but Omega can't make much sense of what Reno says then.

"'There'?" she echoes, brow arching as she tilts her head.

"A galaxy far far away! Jedi! Starfighters!" She's more animated now, her hands flying through the air making 'pew pew' sounds. "Luke Skywalker- no, wait, Clone Wars was earlier. Anakin Skywalker!" Reno nods firmly now, "And there's others like you? From different worlds too?" Now those two braincells are firing again. Oh dear.

Omega looks completely baffled as she watches Reno go off, a complete 180 from her earlier mood that she's completely caught off guard.

"I... Well, you could say we are in a galaxy far, far away right now because no one's heard of Agra Ten-" she starts. "Wait, you know about the Jedi?" It's difficult to keep up, but it's in some strange way amusing too. A laugh escapes her as she waves her hands around to try calming Reno down, or at least get her attention.

"There's people here from different worlds. A lot seem to be from a place called Earth, but I've never heard of it before I came here."

[personal profile] renoreactor 2022-06-06 05:02 am (UTC)(link)
To be fair, there was still a huge part of Reno that was sad that she wouldn't be dragging San Juan to go see Doctor Strange tonight. That, however, had been overrun by everything that Omega had been telling her. Especially when she confirmed her suspicions with one simple utterance of 'Jedi'. Who needs to see Multiverse of Madness when you've suddenly been brought into one.

She's shaking off another sniffle with thoughts of just where all this could lead when her attention is taken, "I- Yeah, I'm from Earth too." Trying not to frighten Omega even as she's starting to internally vibrate, she says in a steady tone, "A different one, but, uh, you see, if you're from Star Wars and you're here then..."

And the steadiness goes out the window. "Do you know any superheroes?"
small_compromise: (you sure?)

[personal profile] small_compromise 2022-06-06 05:17 am (UTC)(link)
At least the concept of different Earths or times isn't a new one to Omega, but Reno's still saying some strange things that she doesn't really understand, and it shows on her face. It takes a bit more to frighten her, given her experience between running from the Empire and a bounty hunter, but at the moment she's more than just a little confused.

Whatever Reno's trying to explain about wars in the stars and whatnot, it's easier to move onto the next question. Even though Omega has no idea what she's talking about, and that expression does not clear up from her face.

"What's a...superhero?"

[personal profile] renoreactor 2022-06-06 02:53 pm (UTC)(link)
"You've never met one?" Reno is crestfallen for a moment, "A multiverse without heroes... But then again maybe they're all hiding behind secret identities!" A tap of her chin, "Heroes are guys and girls in fancy costumes and capes that fly around and fling shields and make lights that go 'byooom' with their hands like mine." She holds up a hand, and the light on her palm glows brighter with a faint sound of 'bzzzzew'.

There's almost a pleading tone to her question, "Do you have anyone like that around here?"
small_compromise: (?)

[personal profile] small_compromise 2022-06-06 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a new term to her. Not something people tended to namedrop very openly around here, but that's probably more because it seemed to be a given for a majority of them. Omega looks at Reno curiously.

"Can't think of anyone who wears things like that and does such things around here," she admits. "I know some people use something called magic. Is that the same?"
renoreactor: I Am Reno! (Default)

[personal profile] renoreactor 2022-06-06 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
There's maybe a faint hope left at those last lines. "Some heroes do use magic," Reno nods as she's about to speak again. It doesn't seem like she's getting too far with this poor girl, however, more confusing her than anything. "... You know what, maybe its better I met your friends! You can tell me all about them and this world on the way, oh! I'm gonna need to know if you have a workshop too. I'm pretty handy at making things!"

There's still a tinge of sadness to her smile, but its becoming clear to her that this world needs heroes. And maybe, this time, that hero can be Reno.

Up until her datapad pings with a message from the next thread over...
small_compromise: (it'll be all right)

[personal profile] small_compromise 2022-06-06 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, that much she can answer! Omega smiles again, nodding.

"Someone's set up a workshop out that way. I can show you on the map- it's on the datapads we're provided." It's a bit strange to think she's become knowledgeable of such a place when she's only ever been to a handful of other planets and star systems before.

But if anything, the girl's willing to do her best. Helping people is what soldiers do, after all!
